IPhoto no longer opening.

I recently updated my Macbook and now I cannot use iPhoto, whenever I open the program I get redirected to the Apple store to purchase Aperture. I obviously don't want to pay for this program as I've always been happy using iPhoto. I'm currently running 10.7.4 on Lion. I've also searched for updates over and over. Any help??

This didn't resolve the problem, but I found another 'solution' to this rather annoying problem. I just completely deleted my iPhoto Library, launched the program, and it created a new one. I did lose all my "faces" and "places", but I just geotagged every photo again (luckily, I have a lot of backups of all my pictures, and they're sorted by place and date).
So, whenever your iPhoto isn't working, and you have a lot of backups, and you don't mind reorganizing your library, just delete the file and start over
First though, I would consider using the herefore mentioned tips & tricks (thanks Terence Devlin), but that did not do it for me.I tried to rebuild the library, but that failed. (And then I was just frustrated and deleted it).

Gonna post a note everytime I have to unload from my camera card and iPhoto does not automatically open so I can delete images from card automatically
    Have used a new account
    Have deleted all plists
    Have re-installed iPhoto '08
Have used other cards and card readers and still.....
    NOTHING works
Getting the sense that we need to hound Apple to get iPhoto to work like we did with iCal.

    Hello Jack,
I am wondering what's your problem. I have 3 apple computers, all 3 have 10.5.1 installed. All of them work perfectly. No problem at all. I just tested again and as soon as I connect my Canon Power Shot SD900, iPhoto pop-up immediatelly. I really don't know what to tell you more than what was said.

  • IPhoto no longer opens

Iphoto won't open my library. I was trying to create a library from an external drive's photos but as I was uploading to the library the drive was disconnected. Iphoto quit and now wont open without an error message. it says that the disk is unreadable or in use by another application and prompts me to restart or rebuild the library. Neither one is working. Is there anyway to get Iphoto back without losing everything I had in there?  I dont know if all my photos are backed up currently

    What version of iPhoto?
    If it's 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Iphoto no longer opens in the media browser in iweb, iphoto no longer opens in the media browser in iWeb

    Hello,
I am having several issues with Iphoto after upgrading to '11. I was able to use time machine to reload photos as the photos disappeared...basically it was a disaster. I am continuing to experience a lot of issues with Iphoto - it no longers opens in the media browser while I am working in Iweb. Videos are no longer uploaded in imovie from Iphoto. I have never had so many issues with Iphoto. Does anyone have any advice/help to offer. Thanks in advance for reading this and taking the time to respond.....

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

What haven't you backed them up? You should always have a back up of any important material on your Mac. Make one now:
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

I deleted the photos via Finder and empty trash long time ago. The thing is, that I want to recover one event or album.  The event appears in the iphoto but when open, it shows "!". Is it possible to recover the photos?

No.  When you removed the photos via the finder you damage the library.  Photos should always be removed from the library using iPhoto, never with the Finder.
If you have a Time Machine backup of the library from before you deleted the photos you can restore the library to the Desktop and export that album from it to import into your current library.
It's been too long to be able to try one of the file recovery applications.  You sure to have overwritten those files with new files since them.

  • When I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.

So starting recently (last couple of months) when I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.  There's nothing there, it's just completely blank, when in the past my whole iPhoto library would show up with thumbnails and I could just choose the pic to attach.  Now I have to drag the photos I want from iPhoto onto the desktop and then I can find them there to attach to my e-mail.  How can I get my iPhoto library to show back up the simple way when I want to attach photos?  I've been having this problem attaching photos in hotmail or yahoo.

It should be an attachment.  Your Mac just displays a preview of certain attachments (such as .pdfs) in the body of the message.  A PC, for example, will see it as an attached file rather than a preview.
You can save the attachment on your Mac by Control-clicking on it and selecting Save Attachment.

  • I can no longer open iphoto. It says it is damaged. How do i reinstall iphoto?

I can no longer open iphoto. It says it is damaged. How do I reinstall iphoto?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Can no longer open iPhoto

    G'morning, all,
I've just installed iLife and updated all related applications. While I can access iPhoto via the media tool on iWeb, I can no longer open iPhoto by itself. I get a message that I should upgrade iPhoto (despite the fact that I have the most recent version) and that I should go to the iPhoto file menu >Library, and then ensure that I have read and write permissions. I have done all those things and I still can't access iPhoto.
    Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks,
    R

This sounds like a permissions issue. Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder (at Home/Pictures) using the settings found here:

I've successfully imported the videos I've shot with my iphone5 into iphoto on my MacBookPro but they're only showing up as still shots, ie the imported videos don't play! Itunes no longer opens automatically when syncing, and when I open itunes it shows that there are zero "home movies" in there, meaning that it never grabbed the videos from my phone either. What to do? Thanks!

    tl:dr?
    Really?
There was a short version expressly for people who weren't bothered to read a myriad of text.
Meh, not that it matters anymore. I ended up redownloading 70-odd albums, so I have the bulk of my music back. And I still have no idea what iTunes did with my files, but I'll make sure it never does it again.
I would thank you for the help but you were utterly useless. Oh well, carry on.

  • Currently using iPhoto 7.1.5   We recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard with updated Quicktime player.  Our videos off our camera no longer open in Quicktime by double clicking.  Any help?

We are running iPhoto 7.1.5 '08.  After upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Quicktime Player 10.0, our videos off of our camera no longer open by double clicking.  Any help?

Thank you for your quick reply.  I'll give it a try.  Another workaround I figured out last night is to right click the video, click show file, and then double click the file. Quicktime the plays the video.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iTunes in Mac OS X Tiger is outdated. Open  > Software Update to install the latest iTunes version for Tiger.
If you need iTunes 10.7 or a newer version, you have to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. First, check that your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 If it is, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After buying Snow Leopard, make a backup of your data, insert the DVD and upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest Snow Leopard version. Finally, run Software Update again to install iTunes 11.0.4. If you want to install iTunes 10.7 instead, download it from the Apple website > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1576

  • Iphoto will no longer open. It's unreadable or in use by another application?

At some point i accidentally imported these thumbnails that looked like flags into my iphoto. When i did that it erased my entire photo library and made it so i can no longer open iphoto all together. I folled the intrsuctions in the window that pops up, to either restore or restar the computer, then hold command and do something else. None of it worked. :[

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

If you have a copy of it backed up, restore that. If not, back up your computer, upgrade it to Mavericks, and then get the current iPhoto version. If you don't have it backed up and don't want to upgrade, go to the Mac App Store main page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.
