IPhoto no longer recognizes my Kodak DC4800

About 3 months ago, I connected my DC4800, as usual, and iPhoto 5.0.4 launches normally, but no recognition of the camera; the upload window never opens. The Kodak likewise does not work on my buddy's brand new (leftover) iBook. The Kodak works on an older iMac G3 with (I'm sure) an older version of iPhoto. Other cameras work normally on my iBook. I've also tried other USB cables and repaired permissions. When I open Image Capture with Kodak connected, it says "no image device connected" or something similar. I suspect a newer version of iPhoto has caused my camera to be "de-recognized". I see that my latest version of iPhoto was last modified 10/17/06, about the time this started happening. The Apple site lists the Kodak DC4800 as a compatible camera. I would download an earlier version of iPhoto if I could find one. I don't want to have to buy a new camera just to use iPhoto....any ideas?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Much less expensive than a new camera - for about $20 you can buy a card reader and bypass the need for your Mac to see the camera. It has other advantages, as well, like giving you the ability to preview and select images before you Import into iPhoto. I prefer this method.
Does System Profiler recognize your Kodak and the USB where you are connecting it?
It seems strange to me that your iPhoto was modified around the same time that the most recent update for iPhoto 6 (v 6.0.5) was released. I didn't think it would affect iPhoto 5 users at all. Did Apple release a v5 update at the same time?

  • Iphoto doesn't recognize my Kodak Z730 any more after three years of up loading into it.

Iphoto doesn't recognize my Kodak Z730 Easyshare cameranow. Been using it for over three years and as of two months ago the Apple doesn't recognize the files. Camera works fine on my step mothers Apple just not on mine.  Anyone been through this already? I tried printing to a disk and loading that way. No luck. I think getting one of the auto updates from Apple may have screwed it up. Only thing I can think of. Has to be a way to fix it. ( I hope ! )

  • IPhoto No longer recognizes Library on External Drive

I am in (a little) trouble. I had my iPhoto library created and maintained on an external NAS drive, accessed through my Airport Extreme. For about 5 months, all worked fine. One recent day, my NAS was no longer recognized and I had to fiddle with some of the AE and network settings. Now, iPhoto doesn't recognize my library.
That is, the iPhoto library folder is still in my external HD, but when I try to open iPhoto, it says it can't find the library. When I point it to the iPhoto library on the external HD, I get nada.
I am only in a little trouble because all of the pictures are still in the iPhoto Library > Original folder, so I can create a new iPhoto Library with them. But if I do this on the external drive, it works only for that session: when I reboot the HD, I get the same problem as above.
This is weird given that it worked fine for 5 months. Any ideas?

Yes. Are you importing an entire library folder into an new library? That would give that message for any non image file in the library, including the database file, Library.iPhoto. If you want to create a new library and import the files form an old one, just import the Originals folder. That way you won't get the thumbnail files imported as regular photo files.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto no longer recognizes camera in 10.6

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now when I open iPhoto it no longer recognizes the digital camera (Canon PowerShot SD960IS). No change in the settings. Worked fine in 10.5
Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions?
    Thanks.

Okay. I rebooted the machine and ran iPhoto again.
This time it recognized the camera, but it took a full 5 minutes to display all the images.
Strange because there were only about 50 photos (2-3MB each) to preview.
Importing was equally as slow. Took about 8-9 minutes to import everything.
Something strange is going on with 10.6, iPhoto, and preview/importing of photos that wasn't there in 10.5.

  • Iphoto doesn't recognize my kodak V803 camera

I can upload pictures using the Kodak easyshare software but I want to use iphoto.
I went into Image capture and changed the preference to use iphoto when downloading but iphoto still doesn't see the camera ( my canon works fine)
I called Kodak tech support and they swear that the V803 should be recognized by iphoto.
I checked the list of compatible cameras in iphoto and the V803 isn't listed but it is a fairly new camera so the documentation may not have caught up yet.
    1. Does anybody know if the V803 is compatible with iphoto?
    2. what else can I try to have iphoto recognize the V803 to upload pictures?

  • IPhoto No Longer Recognizes Panasonic Lumix

I have had a Panasonic Lumix for about a year. I have regularly transferred photos from the SDHC 60x disc to iPhoto on my MaxBook Pro (10.8.5). I recently updated iPhoto to 9.4.3 after receiving a software update notification. Now iPhoto doesn't automatically open, and I'm not seeing an icon for the disk either in the Finder or in iPhoto. I'm wondering if there is a workaround for this so I can transfer the photos to iPhoto. One more thing ... when I got the Lumix, everytime I put the disk in the MacBook, the icon that appeared was Casio, the transport software for my previous camera. But now there's nothing. Thanks for your help!

It is most likely that your SD card needs to be reformated - you need to get your photos off the card and then use the camera's format command to reformat the card
Does Image Capture (in your applications folder) see the card - if it does use it to get the photo soof - otherwise you need a card reader or use your husband's computer to get them off - then reformat

  • Since Leopard - iPhoto no longer recognizes Nikon D90

    Hi,
I have been using iPhoto '08 happily with my Nikon D90 until..., I installed Leopard (Currently - OSX 10.6.2). All of a sudden the camera will not appear in iPhoto when plugged in. I have tried different cables, checked my NEF support updates - all current. Next step for my simple mind is to get iPhoto 09 and hope for the best. Any help in the short term out there???

1 - does it mount to the desktop?
2 - have you tried Image capture?
3 - have you looked at the USB bus with system profiles while the camera is connected?
4 - have you tried a USB card reader?
5 - have you deleted the iPhoto preference file?
6 - have you reformatted the camera memory card?
7 - Is there any more information you have beyond "it does not work"?
8 - I would not count on iPhoto '09 fixing this

  • IPhoto 08 no longer recognizes my pictures!

Recently, when I opened IPhoto 08, it gave me a message that I needed to upgrade my thumbnails (I do not remember what the exact message was). I clicked OK. Ever since, IPhoto no longer recognizes my pictures. It is as if they are completely gone. Thankfully, that isn't the case (they still come up when my screen saver kicks in).
I tried reinstalling ILife 08 but that didn't have any effect. I thought about reverting back to my previous version and re-upgrading, but I wanted to check here first.
Quick responses would be appreciated - I really need access to my pictures!

    Angella:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're experiencing a damaged database file. Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
To recover a little easier from similar damage see the tip at the end of my signature below.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • No longer recognizes photos

I have tons of jpg photos on my hard drive. Many of them are organized into iPhoto albums. iPhoto no longer recognizes any of them. When I open iPhoto it says Loading Photos and will keep that up forever. When I try to import photos, either existing Albums or standalone jpg photos, iPhoto says "Unreadable files--following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)." But these files open just fine in Preview. What's going on? What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks for your help.
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

HI, ascjohn, and welcome to Apple Discussions. Posting here is not a way to get an answer from Apple, as these are user-to-user forums. Apple personnel rarely contribute anything to them, and almost never anything of a technical nature. Apple technical support is provided through other channels.
If, when you open iPhoto, it loads and loads and loads and never finishes, force-quit it, then hold down the Shift and Option keys while opening iPhoto again. Keep holding them down until you are asked whether you want the database rebuilt, and click Yes. When that process is finished, you should once again be able to quit iPhoto normally and open it normally.
If the problem you share with Gingerdog is not that one, but the inability to import photos from folders on your hard drive (outside your Pictures folder) or other sources, I'm not sure what to suggest. Please describe the problem in more detail: are the photos in question on your hard drive? Where? are they JPEGs, or some other file format? What version of iPhoto are you using? What troubleshooting steps have you tried? What error messages, if any, do you get, and at what stage of the import process? If no error messages appear, what does happen?

  • Iphoto will no longer recognize my camera, says it does not recognize the format....they are jpegs? And now it will not even open when I plug my Canon Eos Camera in to download. I have checked everything on the camera and it is working perfectly....

Iphoto will no longer open when attaching my Canon Eos Camera. I have checked the camera and everything is working perfecty. When I open it myself, Iphoto is working perfectly too. But now when I attach the camera, Iphoto no longer opens at all. Yesterday it did open after a really long wait but it kept saying that it did not recognize the "format" of the images....they were jpegs??? Then it flashed on and off and if I hit download at just the right second they would download. But today it won't work at all. Any suggestions.
    thanks

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto no longer works with Nikon 5100 after upgrade to 10.8

IPhoto with newly installed Mountain Lion no longer recognizes a connection to my  Nikon 5100.  The USB cable is good, as it works with  my other Macs  -- OSX versions 10.6.8 and 10.7.4, just as it did with my Imac before I upgraded to 10.8.  My Preferences are set to recognize any camera.  I even upgraded to IPhoto 11 v9.3.2, but no help.  Any ideas?

Hi, I have the same problem with my Nikon Coolpix 5000: camera is not recognized at all by Mountain Lion after upgrading: worked just fine with Lion.
Problem: I connect the camera, Mac (MacBook Pro Late 2011) freezes for a while (!!!) then external disk icon does not appear.
Console registers messages like the following:
    20/08/12 19:34:24,000 kernel[0]: USBF: 363761.547 AppleUSBEHCI[0xffffff801fcbf000]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 0xfa, timing out! (Addr: 0, EP: 0)
Strange thing is, my Coolpix 5000 is a very old camera with only USB 1 support: this problem occurs to me with every USB 1 device connected on Mountain Lion!
Hope they'll fix the problem or just find some workaround...
