IPhoto not focusing after zoom  / occasional crashes

I've noticed lately that sometimes when I press 1 or 2 (or adjust the slider) to zoom in on a photo, the photo does not become focused.
Normally when I zoom the photo is not immediately focused and then it snaps into focus a fraction of a second later (try holding down the slider and zooming to see what i mean. when you let go of the slider it focuses). For some reason, lately, after editing photos for a few hours it no longer focuses and I need to quit and restart iPhoto in order to regain functionality. Does anybody else notice this behavior or know how to fix it?
Also I noticed iPhoto taking up crazy amounts of ram (as much as 700 MB of real physical ram) and cashing occasionally. I hadn't had an iPhoto crash since before my upgrade to iPhoto 5 but now I'm getting crashes every few days. Any idea if these issues could be related?
My library is approaching 3500 pictures. I recently started shooting in 8 megapixels with my Panasonic FZ30 (I used to use mostly a Canon 3 megapixel S1 IS). I'm wondering if either the library size or the large photo size could be causing these problems.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Rear camera will not focus after updating to 8.1.3.   Any adviceY  Already tried erasing and reinstalling.

I updated to 8.1.3 and my rear camera will not focus.   I erased and reinstalled and still have the problem.  Any advice?

    Hello jonesrob,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I see that your photos and video taken with the rear camera on your iPhone are not in focus after updating to iOS 8.1.3.  When you restored your iPhone, did you restore from a backup?  If so then I would like you to please restore to the factory settings by following the directions in the article below.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
If you had already restored to the factory settings and the issue persists, then it's time to seek service for your iPhone.

  • I have a problem with the iPhoto not updating after the hard drive recall.

The iPhoto with not update after doing the Hard Drive Recall. It keeps saying I don't have the right ID. I have tried resetting all my passwords and no change. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Which OS version did you have when you acquired iPhoto and was it on a DVD (iLife) or did you download it from the app store initially?
And, last question, did you skip Mavericks? Mavericks owners were given the opportunity to update iPhoto to an app store version free of charge; if you skipped it and do not have a backup or the installer DVD or purchased a new computer recently, then you'll need to purchase it.

iPhoto is missing part of the substructure it needs to run. You need to reinstall.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • IPhoto not showing RAW pics, and crashing on Create New Library

    hi there
i was just organising (tagging, deleting) pics in iPhoto 9.1 when the RAW pics started showing up as just blank placeholders - i'll clarify that:  they were showing previously, however my perception of them 'disappearing' may have been between iPhoto sessions.
my iPhoto library is mostly JPEGs, with the RAW pics being a recent addition courtesy of a Canon EOS 5D MkII.  the iPhoto library resides on a 500GB external harddrive.  the iPhoto library was backed up by way of copying the entire iPhoto folder from the 500GB external harddrive to a separate 1TB external harddrive - this back-up process was done prior to the addition of more recent RAW pics, and the memory card from which all the RAW pics came from has been wiped several times since.  some RAW pics taken in December 2011 are showing; none of the RAW pics taken in January 2012 are showing.
    what i've done so far:
    1.  Option-Command-opened iPhoto and ticked all boxes to rebuild the library and the RAW pics are still not showing.  this rebuild process has been done at least three times now.
    2.  opened the iPhoto Library (via Show Package Contents) and confirmed that the pic files are still there in the Masters folder.  (they are identified by the date the photos were taken, the CR2, and can be viewed in Preview.)
    3.  installed the iPhoto 9.2.1 Update and the RAW Camera Update 3.9, with no change in the RAW pics' visibility.
    4.  Option-opened iPhoto and -
      a.  - created a new library (on the 1TB external HD, separate to the 'backup') into which i -
      b.  - tried to import the entire iPhoto Library from the 500GB external HD but -
      c.   this import ended in an "iPhoto quit unexpectedly" message.  unfortunately, i did not keep the error report for this.
    5.  Option-Command-opened iPhoto to create a new library on the 1TB HD but this has ended abruptly in an "iPhoto quit unexpectedly" message.  this has happened twice, and i have kept one of the error reports.
    6.  downloaded and installed the latest iPhoto Library Manager and -
      a.  - tried to Rebuild the library but -
      b.  - iPhoto quit unexpectedly - i have kept this error report - while -
      c.  - iPhoto Library Manager gave the error message "'iPLM'/'ADDK' (returnID 3)".
interspersed with the above steps, i have run Disk Utility Repair Permissions after each crash.
    so.
i know the files are still there.  but iPhoto won't show them.  i've trawled these forums and done - or tried doing - some of the fixes, all to no avail.
    please can someone help.

  • Iphoto not working after installing snow leopard

My hardrive crashed while I was living in South America so I got the authorized mac dealership to put in a new one. Once I got back I was able to get all my photos and files from an external hardrive but I realized that my computer software was still 10.5.8. So I put in the Snow Leopard disk that I had bought because I realized that when they put in a new hardrive they didn't install Snow Leopard. After I installed Snow Leopard my iphoto now says "Caution The iPhoto Library folder is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it." How do I fix this? I called Mac and because I bought the computer in 2007 I do not have any applecare so that will cost me $60 and the mac authorized dealership told me to call them or buy the new iLife in hopes that the problem will be fixed.

  • Iphoto not available after upgrading to Mavericks

I recently upgrades my iMac to Mavericks. I also upgrades my iPhoto to 9.5.1. However when I click on the icon it gives the following caution:
"The iPhoto library is on a locked volume. Reopen iPhoto when you have read/write access, or reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library."
I have tried the Option key while opening iPhoto, but get the same caution. I have tried opening from the iPhoto library disk image and get the same message. I have gone to Disk Utility and  clicked on verify disk and it said all was OK. The button for Verify disc permissions was grayed out and not available.
What else can i do to get iPhoto to work for me?
    Thanks....

MAJOR error in over filling your HD and keeping your iPhoto library in a Boot Camp partition. Get yourself an EHD and move large libraries such as your photos, music and movies to it. This is extremely simply to do, simply get an EHD, format it for the Mac (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) and then drag and dop the libraries to the new EHD. Then to launch each app for the first time after moving the library double click it on the EHD and the app will "remember" where the library is located.

  • Why does iPhoto not launch after update to version 9.3.2?

Double clicking the application icon causes it to bounce 3 or 4 times in the dock and then quits. Trying to open with command + option will not launch for a rebuild. Holding down the option key illicits the same behavior.
How can I downgrade to 9.3.1 or make 9.3.2 work? It was working perfectly before the upgrade.
My other computer (a recent MacBook Pro) shows 9.3.1 version and software update shows it's up to date. It works great.

Still will not launch in new user account.

  • IPhoto not working after connecting to a new iPad

I tried to move some photos using iPhoto from my iMac to a new iPad. Couldn't figure out how and when I went to open iPhoto later on my iMac it won't open and says I need to upgrade. Not sure what happened, any ideas? Do I really need to upgrade iPhoto or is it possibly confused?

After you connect the iPad to the iMac, go to iPhoto and select the iPads icon in the sidebar under Devices.
Then select Photos from the Summary bar along the top.
Next check the Sync Photos from box and select iPhoto.
Then choose a the Photos that you want from either the Events, Albums or Faces by checking the box next to them and then click the Sync button at the bottom.
Also do the same for music and movies that you want to Sync to your iPad.
Just remember that the iPad has limited space compaired to the iMac and that you will have to closely manage what you Sync to it, buy checking only certian items and then later unchecking older items to add new ones.

  • Iphoto not working after 10.5.2

After 10.5.2 and graphic updates, iPhoto does not work any more. When I launch it, after a few seconds it quits by itself, with Console message "segmentation fault".
Tried erasing preference file, with no results; Don't know what to do

Oops. Missed that last sentence. See if you can create a new library by launching iPhoto with the Option key depressed and selecting Create new library when asked what to do. If you can't get iPhoto to create and open a new library then it's not your old library that's at fault.
You're image files are stored in the Originals folder inside the iPhoto Library package. It is located in your Pictures folder.
If you can open iPhoto with a new library then rebuilding your current library is an option. Heres' what you'll need to do. Move the temp library that you created to the trash leaving only your original iPhoto Library package in the Pictures folder. Then launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. If that doesn't resurrect the library continue with the following:
How old is the AlbumData.xml file that you replaced in the library? Did you do any importing of photos between the time it was created and now? If not then you can keep it and try rebuilding the library with iPhoto Library Manager. It uses the information in the AlbumData.xml file to create a new library which will have the events, albums, keywords, titles and comments intact. You will lose any books, slideshows, cards, etc. Here's how to use iPLM to rebuild:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
