IPhoto not longer launches with Maverick upgrade

Upgraded to Maverick and now iPhoto won't open. Keeps telling me it is updating - launches the App Store as if it wants to update but no updates available.

I'm having the same issue. I supposedly have 9.5 and it installed on October 23rd. However, it keeps throwing up the error that iPhoto is being updated, it launches the App Store, and there is no update. It's becoming really inconvenient.

I have an all-in-one printer/copier/fax/scanner, HP Office Jet Pro 8500.  The scanner no longer works with the Mavericks upgrade.  Is it possible to get the scanner back in use?  The printer and fax is fine, but I really use the scanner a lot.  Please helap me.

The following link to the HP Support site indicates that scanning is still supported for the OfficeJet Pro 8500 using Mavericks but also indicates that "you may need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mavericks." • HT6114 My CanoScan 8600F no longer works with Mavericks- No drivers available from Canon

My CanoScan 8600F no longer works with Mavericks upgrade.  Canon does not offer new drivers.

The Canoscan Toolbox works with Mavericks to scan, copy, etc.
If you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements the drivers can be installed so one can scan from within those applications.
All the necessary software (CanoScan Toolbox 5.0.1.2 Installer) can be obtained from the Canon site.
And, as Eustace mentioned, Vuescan works.

  • IPhoto no longer synching with iTunes

Ever since I installed the latest Yosemite update, 10.10.3, iPhoto no longer syncs with iTunes. Once I connect my iPhone with my MacBook Pro and iTunes launches, I have confirmed that it is wanting to sync with iPhoto and not the new Photos app (which I can't stand). I have selected events I have chosen to sync and this used to be a seamless process. There must be a glitch since the update, as it freezes on step 5 of 6, importing photos. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Have you found a solution? This is most frustrating.

    Have you tried the following:
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • Existing Apple ID is not longer working with Face Time and Message on the iPhone after iOS 6

After the IOS 6 update on my iPhone the Apple ID is not longer working with Face Time and Message. Each time I try to log in I receive the message that the password or the user is not right. But they are, because on all other devices and all other parts of the iPhone (iCloud, AppStore, iTunes) they are working. Other Apple IDs are working fine.
    What's wrong? Any idea?
    Thanks

    Blue
It sounds like you restored from an old back-up.  Did you back-up just before your software update?  It will use your last one and if your last back-up was a ywear old then it will use that one.
In general, if you are getting these messages on your iPhones select logout (when you get that Apple Id request) and then log back in with your newer ID.
    Sorry for your losses.
    Cheers

  • Iphoto 9.5.1 crashes with mavericks upgrade

I have a few questions reference the latest Mavericks upgrade.
Why does Iphot 9.5.1 crash with the Mavericks upgrade?
Why doesn't it regognise my Toshiba external hard drive anymore?
Why doesnt it recognise My Passport for the backups anymore?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Photos Missing from iPhoto with Maverick Upgrade

I have recently upgraded to the Maverick OS and noticed that all my photos are now missing from iPhoto however I can see them under Preview when I use the Finder application. Also, when I open iPhoto it prompts me to enter personalized settings as if I am using it for the first time (ie: Face recognition, etc.) How can I get my photos back into iPhoto? I am worried I may lose them.

Have you upgraded iPhoto after your Mavericks upgrade?
Be aware after updating iPhoto save your iPhoto Library before you open it in the new version of iPhoto Library. If you don't and you have other Macs running eariler versions of iPhoto, they won't be able to open the Library.

  • Iphoto won't open with out upgrade

iphoto won't open without upgrade. How do I upgrade

Assuming your running Mavericks this screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • IPhoto and iMovie gone after Mavericks upgrade

I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and lost ALL of my applications.  I finally have most everything back in order, but iPhoto and iMovie are gone and now the App Store says I need to purchase them.
Why should I have to purchase them when I already own them from the purchase of my MacBook Pro? Getting a free Mavericks upgrade should not cause me to have to spend $30 to get the applications back that I already owned in the first place.
Please help me restore those two applications.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    so please read my responce
2 - to get them back you reinstall from the original source - which may be the restore disk that came with your computer, a purchased iLife upgrade or the app store using the Apple ID  you used to set your computer up
Maybe it is clearer using bullet points rather that standard English puncuation
To get them back you reinstall from the original source
    which may be
1 - The restore disk that came with your computer,
    2 - a purchased iLife upgrade or
3 - the app store using the Apple ID  you used to set your computer up - in this case you go to the App store under purchases
Only you know what the original source is
As as to who should pay for yoru mistake  --  obviously if your mistake creates a cost then you should pay the cost you created - pretty simple stuff
As to Time Machine - yes they should be there but it is better to reinstall them - copying from a backup dose not work well for applications

  • New MBP comes with Mavericks - Upgrade vs Clean Install of Yosemite at this point?

Bought a New 13" MBP today from my local Apple Store.  It came with Mavericks instead of Yosemite.  I realize there is probably a lot of advantages to doing a clean install of any OS, especially when you have a lot of usage on it which creates files all over.  However, I'm wondering if that advantage is minimized by doing an upgrade with a pristine OS.   If very few, if any, files are left behind from Mavericks that are no longer needed does it matter?
Obviously upgrading saves me from having to go through the hassle of creating a bootable USB (wherever that thing is in one of the many junk drawers).

If it were I, I would just di a clean install if you have not configured it already...it's good to have a bootable USB hanging around just in case. It's easy to make one in Terminal if you have at least an eight (8) GB available with this (I just finished one):
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app --nointeraction

  • Problems with Mavericks upgrade?

Thinking about uprgrading to Mavericks, but have been coming across a lot of threads/reviews about people losing date and/or having real problems with the process. It's been a while since I've been here, and just wanted to ask for an opinion/advice.  I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Should I stay away from it, or if I do, what advice/tips do you have for a smooth upgrade?
OR -- is it possible to get Mountian Lion Somewhere?  I looked for it in the app store, but couldn't find it.  I heard some negative reviews about Lion, so I just kept Snow Leopard, rather than take any chances with a new OS.

Mavericks is excellent on my MBP 8,2. Fast and flawless. Faster than Mountain Lion.
New features I like: iBooks, iCloud keychain, enhanced dictation.
    A few things to consider:
Any new OS has some bugs and incompatibilities with old software and hardware. If you are uncomfortable with basic Mac troubleshooting, then perhaps waiting would be a better strategy. I didn't have any problems, with installation or after.
If you have any mission-critical software or peripherals, make sure they are compatible first. Check your apps for compatability here: RoaringApps - Application compatibility and feature support for OS X and iOS
Mavericks does not play well with some old/bad software and hardware:
Crapware: anything that purports to "clean", "monitor", "protect", or "accelerate"  your mac. Unnecessary on Macs and often harmful. Examples: CleanMyMac and MacKeeper (the King of Crapware).
    antivirus software. Unnecessary on Macs.
    WD hard drives.
    Before you install Mavericks:
backup your old system, either with Time Machine, or better yet, a bootable backup.
have enough RAM. The specs say 2GB, but 4 is probably a more realistic minimum.
uninstall Crapware, antivirus software, and any other junk you don't need.
repair your hard drive and permissions with Disk Utility
boot into safe mode, and then run the installer Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?

I've tried verifying the disk, and repairing the desk, but can't find a fix.  It won't launch at all ever since the Mavericks upgrade.

If you did not install the software following the upgrade but did some form of transfer or migration then you should probably uninstall and then use the Cleaner Tool.  After that install using the discs or a downloaded set  of installation files.
