IPhoto not included in Mac OS X
I have a MacBook currently running OS X 10.6. It had a previous version when I bought it last year, but the hard drive failed recently and when I took it to the Apple store, they installed a new hard drive with 10.6.
For some reason, iPhoto is not on the computer. It was on the old hard drive when I bought it. Why is it not on the new one with 10.6? Is it no longer included with the computers that come with 10.6?Is it no longer included with the computers that come with 10.6?
It is, except for the Mac mini server and Xserve, but you need to use the computer's original disks and not a retail package(except the Mac Box Set) to install it.

1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new iPhoto 08 library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.

I tried to repair the hard drive of my MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro I own is not the latest one. I think this is from the previous generation. The disk cannot be repaired anymore so I just decided to erase the content then reinstalled the OS. I already updated the software but iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband was not in my applications. What should I do? I don't want to spend money to have those apps.
Perform a custom install of them from the DVDs which shipped with the computer.

I had the geek squad from bestbuy supposedly install iphoto 11 on my mac but it is not there and when i try to download it it say the app has been download by another user on this machine. What do i need to do get get this app on my system? If they could not do it right the first time I do not have much faith in their advice.
Assuming you've done a system wide search for it including the Applications folder and it's not there......
I think you will need to address this with them - did you pay them for the application? Or was your purchase price to include it? And the question(s) to ask them:
If the app store states that it has been downloaded, ask them where it is and which Apple ID they used. (the store keeps track of Apple IDs and machine IDs on everything you download).
I have absolutely no faith in their advice; however, in this case, it's not so much technical advice, but an answer to your questions: you paid for something and it appears not to be there. -
iPod touch second generation. Trying to sync to mac. Have updated itunes and snow leopard. When I plug it in, it is recognized in iphoto, not itunes. ipod is freezing. Have tried several times to set back to factory settings, but computer wont see it

I have recently purchased an IPad Air. This comes with "IPhoto" as well as it's usual photo App. I do not have a Mac, instead I am syncing it to my windows PC. Is there any way of actually moving a picture around, (arranging photos in a single album), in either of these apps???? They claim to be able to "Organize" or "arrange" Photos, but for the life of me I can't figure out how......could you recommend any apps that actually allow someone to move individual photos around on an IOS Device.
No, reordering within folders and albums is not supported. the yare arranged automatically by date. I found this, but I have not used any of the apps besides iPhone. You might check the descriptions to see if they do what you need.

iphoto on my used mac mini will not open my photos from my new macbook air, it says something about updating the software, but i checked and there arent any updates available... please help
Sorry for the second post..
I currently do not have an older version of iPhoto to test this on, but you might also try coping the Originals from the iPhoto Library of iPhoto 11.
To do that;
1. Right (control) click on the iPhoto Library in the Picture Folder on the MacBook Air
2. Select Show Package Content.
3. Click on the Originals Folder
4. Navigate to the disired Event or photos and copy those images to your Flash or External Drive, then copy those to the older version of iPhoto.
Beware do not move, add or delete anything in the iPhoto Library, Apple has intensionally hidden it in later versions to prevent people from messing things up. -
IPhoto not streaming all to Mac
I have downloaded photos from my digital camera to my Mac Book Air (IPhoto '11 Version 9.4.1) and not to my MAC OSX (IPhoto '11 Version 9.4.1).
I was of the understanding that photos downloaded on a device would automatically be streamed to all Apple devices (Mac and IPad) but this is not the case in this instance which has left an Album or two of photos on my Mac Air without upstraming them to my Mac.
I have usually downloaded to my Mac, but as I was traveling just downloaded to my Mac Air.
I have checked my settings on ICloud - can someone please explain why this might be the case and what I need to do to have all photos between devices reflected accordingly. You don't need to stream the photos if you want to import them. Connect the iPad to your Mac with the cable and launch iPhoto. The iPad should appear in the sidebar Unser the devices heading. Click on the iPad name and then the camera roll album should appear in the window on the right.
I assume that this will work with your version of iPhoto since you are just importing the photos. You can also use Image Capture to import the photos the same way as with iPhoto. -
what is the best way to back up photos and videos to a dvd from iPhoto, not in iPhoto format but just in jpeg format to access on either windows or mac
When you export the videos out of iPhoto be sure to select Kind = Original. Otherwise you'll just get an image file of the first frame of the video.

Community,
Every time I try to transfer my iphoto library from a Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) harddrive to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) hard drive, I receive the attached message: "You can't copy 'iPhoto Library' because it has the same name as another ideon on the destination volume, and that volume doesn't destinguish between upper- and lowercase letters in filenames."
My theory is, if I am able to unpackage my iphoto library, I can transfer each folder one at a time so that I can trouble shoot any "duplicates." Will this work?
Let's say that works. How can I repackage the library so iphoto recognizes it?
Is there a better way?
Thank you,
JonathanCan we assume that I don't have any naming conflicts? Clearly there are or else I wouldn't get the error I'm getting.
The error doesn't mean you have name conflicts. It means that the Finder won't take the chance that you might have them.
You're suggesting that all I would need to do would be to use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer the files from the case-sensative harddrive to my Extended Journaled harddrive?
Yes. But I would just use the built-in rsync shell command. First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press the space bar:
rsync -aE --delete
Now drag the iPhoto library you want to copy into the window. You should have something like this:
rsync -aE --delete /Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library
Drag the Pictures folder on the destination volume into the window. Now you have this (line will wrap on the page):
rsync -aE --delete /Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library /Volumes/something/Users/you/Pictures
Press return. The copying operation will start. When it finishes, you'll see a new dollar-sign ("$") prompt below what you entered. If there were no errors, you're done. -
IPhoto not compatible with OSX Yosemite
I have a MacBook Pro (17 inch, early 2011) with a 2GHz Intel Core i7 and 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3.
A few weeks ago I downloaded the Yosemite operating system (10.10.3). Since then, my iPhoto application will not open. I can't save pictures to my computer from my phone and I can't edit pictures I've imported. When I try to open iPhoto, it says: "In order to open "iPhoto", you need to update to the latest version. The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac Apple Store."
I search the app store for iPhoto and no updates are available. The message displayed is: " The item you've requested is not currently available in the US store."
Anyone know what to do to solve this? I really need to be able to edit photos. Thanks for helping! You need iPhoto 9.6.1 for use with 10.10.3. Try the method Terence Posted in this topic to get it from the App Store:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Otherwise you can drag your iPhoto Library onto the Photos app icon in the Dock to covert it to a Photos library. -
How can I use my external hard drive for my iphoto instead of my mac book pro memory?
i don't know if this question has been asked before: how can I use my external hard drive for my iphoto instead of my mac book pro memory? just like itunes all my song are save on my external hard drive. make sense?
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

BarryThat's exactly what I tried to do, but the iPhoto librry doesn't show up in the pulldown menu. If I click "Choose Folder", the iPhoto library is greyed out and unable to be selected.
For some reason, iPhoto is an option in the pulldown library on my older iMac but not on my MacBook Pro. What gives?
