Iphoto not reading iphone

All of a sudden iPhoto is not reading my iPhone. As a result I cannot download new images.
Any ideas?

Many people fix these issues simply by restarting the phone. Some require a reset.

  • Iphoto not reading camera

I just bought a Mac Book Air that did not have iPhoto.
I downloaded from App store and downloaded the camera driver.
It is stil not reading my camera.
Can anyone help. I am hours into this and so frustrated.
    Alicia

thank for you telling me where i could see if the camera is actually being read. i went to the system profiler and the camera is being read by the computer, i just don't know how to get iphoto to read it.
and just to clarify, this is one of those mini digital cameras that i don't think is more than $20 or $30. i got it for christmas and just thought it would be nice to be able to attach to a keychain and use when i don't happen to have my canon on me. so, if by chance this isn't going to work and the camera needs a regualr PC or whatever it won't be the biggest deal in the world, but if it's a simple fix i'd like to get it working.
    thanks

  • Iphoto not recognizing iphone?

I cant get iphone to download photos not even an option in iphoto.

Same problem here, photo sync used to work fine, stopped all of a sudden. I wanted to sync before the 1.0.2 update just in case, and I had about 200 photos outstanding. Plugged in phone, not recognized in iPhoto or image capture. Rebooted mac (G5 dual), reset iPhone, plugged in again, nothing. There were a couple of timeouts on the USB bus in the log that looked suspicious.
I was now at the "grasping at straws" stage, so I grabbed the USB cable that was included in the iPhone box and tried that (I had been using the USB cable that came with an iPod). This was -really- grasping at straws and really hoping for magic, since the phone with the other cable was working fine syncing with iTunes....just not the photos.
So unplugged the old cable, used the new one, and it worked. Freaky. To double-verify, I went back to the iPod cable, and it also worked now. Double freaky.
So, who knows. But it might be worth a shot to try the original cable if you're using a different one. Switching USB ports maybe would help as well? Or just plug it in, leave it for a few seconds, and then unplug both ends of the cable and plug it back. Nothing makes much sense, but these activities apparently fixed it for me.

  • IPhoto cannot read iPhone JPGs

I have never had a problem loading pictures from my iPhone into iPhoto until today, when all of a sudden, iPhoto pops up a screen that says
"Unreadable File: The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
I have rebooted both my iMac and iPhone. All the images are JPG. Something ain't right.

Thanks, Terence. My concern was that iPhoto was not recognizing the JPGs for some reason. I went ahead with Image Capture, downloaded to my desktop, and drug them (5 files) to iPhoto, and lo and behold, when it opened, it finally recognized my iPhone.
    Thanks for a round-about fix!

  • IPhoto not detecting iPhone and iPad

    I'm using iPhoto 08, ver 7.1.5 (378).
I've been using it with my iPhone 3GS and iPad with no problems until last night.
But starting from this morning, iPhoto would NOT detect any of my devices.
I've tried some tips from the forum -- restarting the system, deleting images from emails in my iPhone, taking picture with my iPhone and reconnect to my Mac. Noe of them worked.
    Any help?

Yes you are right, I found image capture app on applications folder, looks like it is an alternative to iPhoto app, however when I connect my devices and open the app I am getting a message "no camera or scanner is connected" so look like whatever is causing the problem for iPhoto also blocks image capture, that app also does not recognise my devices, is there any other way I can transfer photos?? Or what might be the problem for this iPhoto \ image capture issue??
By the way I just realised even iTunes is not detecting my devices now, so I will try a restart after I finish downloading some stuff, meanwhile please let me know if any solutions.
P.S: Is APPLE paying you guys to bombard negative comments?? Almost like once negative comments are detected you guys jump on it, I understand the fanaticism however I am facing a problem that clearly prevents me to upload my photos to my MAC and I am complaing abut it, i believe i have the right to do that as a consumer.
Not sure why you guys take the neative comments and complaints so serious.

  • HT4236 iPhoto not recognizing iPhone with too many photos.

I recently took a lot of pictures using my iPhone (about 15,000 cos I was doing a time lapse). Now when iPhoto & Image Capture will not recognize my iPhone when I plug it in; the phone still shows up in iTunes.
I hooked up another iPhone onto my Mac and it syncs fine. I also hooked up both phones onto a Windows PC, the other phone is working fine but I am unable to access the photos in the phone with 15,000 photos.
How can I get my photos off the phone?
    Thanks in advance.

This is from Mac Help. It is a good idea to create another account to use in troubleshooting situations such as this. After you create the new account, open iDVD from that account. Try creating a small project to see if you are having the same problems. Post back with your results.
_Adding a new user account to your computer_
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.
If you change your mind while you're creating a new user account, click Delete to cancel.

  • IPhoto not detecting iPhone 3gs

    1. iPhoto isn't detecting my iPhone so i can't get my photos off the phone onto my computer.
    2. read previous discussion about deleting pictures off iPhone from emails or web that were saved to it. did that and still no love.
    3. in previous discussion it told me to open image capture and tell prefs to look for iPhoto when plugging in a camera.
(a.) there is not a "prefs" drop down on image capture shrug
I know this is probably something really simple. would be quite appreciative of the help.
    thanks for listening.

    You're welcome.
With the OS X and iPhoto version you are using, the option you mentioned is available at iPhoto > Preferences under the General tab. Under the General tab at "Connecting Camera Opens" is where you can select No Application, iPhoto, or Image Capture. This is for automatically launching your selected application only when a digital camera is connected. This does not automatically import photos - this launches the selected application only if not launched when a digital camera is connected. This has nothing to do with your iPhone not being detected as a digital camera by iPhoto.
3,273 photos? Wow, and you've never imported any of these photos by iPhoto - this is the first time you've tried doing this? That is a lot of photos. As with any other digital camera, photos captured by your iPhone should be imported on a regular basis for a number of reasons - with this being one of them. This also increases your iPhone's backup time with iTunes, which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
Photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup. There are some 3rd party paid utilities that provide for extracting these photos from your iPhone's backup on your Mac. I'll check for some and report back unless someone here beats me to it.
If you are able to extract these photos from your iPhone's backup on your computer, I suggest restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup and in the future import photos captured by your iPhone on a regular basis - once a week at least followed by deleting the photos from your iPhone's Camera Roll after the import process is complete. iPhoto includes this option after importing photos from any digital camera.
If I want any of the photos I recently imported followed by being deleted from the Camera Roll available on my iPhone for viewing, I add the photos to a new iPhoto album in iPhoto. I select this album under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.
I'll check for some 3rd party utilities that allow for extracting photos from your iPhone's backup.

  • Iphoto not syncing iphone

iPhoto is not recoginizing my iPhone when I sync it.  Image Capture does not recognize it is connected either.  But iTunes does recognize my phone.  I am running Mavericks on my iMac and have upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 on my iPh

Terence - restarting phone didn't work.
Apologies, but i am not clear what you mean when you say "try reset it".  Are you talking about the phone or iPhoto?  and either way, not sure how to reset it.  Thanks for your help.
BTW - just got the latest iPhoto update - version 9.5 (902.7).  Thanks.

  • IPhoto Not Deleting iPhone Camera Pictures

When I connect my iPhone to my Mac, iPhoto launches and offers to import the pictures for me. (I want this behavior). It then asks what to do with duplicates, and I tell it don't import duplicates. After the photos have been imported, it offers to delete the photos on my iPhone...I tell it "Yes"...but it doesn't delete them.
Do I have to delete camera roll photos manually on my iPhone?

    Hi,
Not sure if this will help but this is what I did.
    1) If you have synched and transferred your iPhone camera roll photo's to your Mac and did not select the iPhoto option to delete the originals off the iPhone as part of transfer process, then you like me, now have two sets of photo's: the originals on the iPhone and the identical photos transferred into iPhoto.
    2) As I took more iPhone photo's and did additional synchs/transfers to iPhoto, unless I choose to "delete originals" as part of the iPhoto transfer, I continued to have more and more images left on my iPhone. I was never able to clear out the camera roll once and for all.
    3) Short of going one by one on the iPhone camera roll and deleting the images, what I now use is the Apple app, "*__Image Capture_*"
    4) Attach your iPhone to your Mac as if you were going to synch. Go to your Apps folder, open the "Image Capture" app. After it loads you will see on the left hand side under Devices your iPhone listed.
    5) Select your iPhone, and in the main image Capture window you will then see all the images currently on your iPhone camera roll. You can now select all or some and click the Delete button (Red Circle with a line thru it) at the bottom of the Image Capture screen. This will delete them from the iphone and clear your camera roll.
(NOTE: please make sure you have already transferred the images off your iPhone if you want to keep them, because as far as I know, once you delete them this way from your iPhone they are gone.)
    6) As an additional option, you can if you so desire, opt to click on the "Delete after Import" box (lower right corner in the main Image Capture page). The means that all future transfers/synch of images from your iPhone to iPhoto will be deleted afterwards whether or not you say so in iPhoto transfer.
Hope this helps. It did for me, I was able to finally removed the 800 or so photo's I had left behind on my iPhone. My camera roll is clean now and the process works much better, at least for me.

  • MacBook is not reading iPhone at all!

I just got my MacBook back after replacing the HD. When I got it back, it had been upgraded to 10.6 already (obviously it wouldn't let me pick that option since it hasn't been released yet). I just tried plugging my iPhone 3G in for the first time since I got my computer back and it's not realizing at all that the phone is there. Not in iTunes or anything else. It won't even charge it. Could this be an OS issue with the iPhone?

Hi... I'm having the same problem with my 1st generation nano. I am on a 5 year old iMac using 10.3.9, and I haven't connected my iPod in several months. Now when I plug it in, there is no device list in iTunes, and the iPod screen doesn't change to "do not disconnect". I have reset the iPod and rebooted the computer. Can't restore the iPod or reinstall because there is no iPod icon in iTunes. Any ideas? thanks.

  • Itunes will not read iphone when connected to laptop

I will connect my iphone 4 to my laptop, and when I go into ITunes, it will not register the phone. I cannot sync my phone of all my music. I need help.

Are you using a windows PC? Does it show the iPhone in the device manager list? Maybe a driver issue.

  • IPhoto not recognizing iPhone 5s

Photos on my iPhone 5s are not being imported to iPhoto.  Device seemingly is not recognized.

You might need to reset and/or restore the iphone.
Here are a couple of articles from the iphone support website that might help out.

  • IPhoto not reading Library: Driving me mad

    Hello all,
A little help please: I have my iPhoto library stored on an external HDD. Some time ago my HDD unintentionally became disconnected while still mounted and while it seems iPhoto was still running. Since then, whenever I try and access my photos via iPhoto it simply shows me a blank grey screen and tells me I have no photos or events.
Interestingly, when I click on the 'Show package contents' in my iPhoto library, I still see all of my original photos. I also see them in the 'images' folder, so I know they're still there. However, my iPhoto doesn't seem to read them.
I've tried the following solutions, none of which have worked:
    (1) I pushed 'Option' while opening iPhoto and tried to re-nominate the same Library;
    (2) I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager, extracted my photos to a new folder, did the same action as in (1) above;
    (3) I tried to utilise my backup on Timemachine (disturbingly this did not seem to have backed up any of my photos stored on the external HDD - not sure why).
I did eventually download Picasa, which recognised the photos but not the albums. While I understand that Picasa is supposedly a superior means of storing and managing one's photos, I don't want to have to go and resort all of my shots (I have 17 GB's of photos).
Can anybody suggest how I can fix this hugely irritating problem? To top it all off, as I am unsure where the computer will store new photos I have not yet uploaded my Christmas holiday pics.
Help / suggestions welcome (maybe also re Timemachine backing up my external HDD photos and iTunes).
    Many thanks,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Disconnecting the HD with iPhoto open corrupted the library's database file. If you still have the library on the external HD, open it, close it and then Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
If that doesn't bring them back you can use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Audio devices not reading Iphone 5

I recently converted from Iphone 3SG to 5.  Now my car stereo (Kenwood) or home stereo (Pioneer) will not stream music.  How can I fix this issue?

I read a very long thread about this (you can search for it) and the gist was that it's poor programming on the part of Pioneer and other vendors. Apple changed the BT on new devices but it is still backwards compatible. However, ithat backward compatibility only works if the other BT device meets the complete BT spec.
Some manufacturers have released new firmware to address the problem. Don't look to Apple for a solution because I don't think it's their problem.
