IPhoto not recognizing the camera

I'm in MacOS Lion and using IPhoto 8.1.2. Just bought an Olympus C7070 with no software disc. The website-provided download for Mac cannot install. Is there a way to get IPhoto to recognize the camera without the software?

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

I am not having any success in importing my videos from Sony Handycam DCR-DVD 650 to my mac book.  I am using the USB connection.  The macbook is not recognizing the camera.  The macbook is running OSX 10.6.8.  Any ideas on what the problem could be?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2361 There's a recommendation that when using this camera to record in the 'Standard' format instead of VR format. So if you know what the setting was you used to record the disk that's a starting point.
According to this website the camera should be compatible with iMovie '11

So here's some steps to take to get the Mac to recognize your camera.
    1. Try it more than a few times, sometimes it can take 2-4 attempts to get iMovie to recognize a camera for the first time.
    2. Always get the power adapter for your camera out of the bag. Hook it to the wall outlet, then plug your camera into that. Don't run it off the battery.
    3. With the camera plugged into the wall, in DV playback mode. Hit play and just let it play video out continuously, then reboot the Mac. As soon as you see the desktop, launch iMovie. Go to File Menu > Import from Camera and see if the Capture window opens with your video playing through.
    4. Make sure iPhoto doesn't try to launch itself automatically when it detects your camera has been connected to the Mac. Sometimes it tries to steal the videos off of a camera and 'blocks' iMovie from seeing the camera when it's attached. So make sure iPhoto hasn't interecepted your camera and is not running at all when you launch iMovie
No guarantees, but some things to try

  • GOES Utility not recognizing 60D camera

Does anyone have any idea why the EOS Utility is not recognizing the camera when connected to PC. All functionality are greyed out.

    Hello E092176,
We are glad to assist you with downloading images from your camera to the computer using EOS Utility.  Windows XP is used as an example, but the procedures are mostly the same if you use Windows Vista,or Mac OS X.
Connect the camera to the computer with the USB cable supplied with the camera.
    - Set the camera's Auto Power Off settings to [Off] before making the connection.
    - Please see the related information for how to connect a camera to a computer.
Set the camera's power switch to <ON>.
    EOS Utility starts automatically.
    - If EOS Utility does not start automatically, click the [Start] button, then select [All Programs] , [Canon Utilities] , [EOS Utility] and then [EOS Utility].
    - If you use Mac OS X, click the [EOS Utility] icon registered in the Dock. When the [Welcome to iPhoto!] dialog box appears, click the [Decide Later] button. If the iPhoto starts at this time, quit iPhoto.
    - If a screen for selecting the program (application) appears, select [Canon EOS Utility] and then click [OK].
[start the operation for downloading images.]
    - To download all images saved in the memory card, click [Starts to download images] in the EOS Utility window.
    - By default, the downloaded images are sorted into folders by their shooting date, and are saved in the [My Pictures] folder on the computer. If you wish to change the destination for the downloaded images, click [Preferences] and specify the settings in the dialog box.
    - If you click [Lets you select and download images], the images saved in the memory card will be displayed in the EOS Utility window so that you can select the images to be downloaded. For the details, please see the "Downloading selected images" section below.
The images are downloaded to the computer.

  • FMLE is not recognizing my camera.

I'm using a Sony HDR-CX160 with an iGrabber connected via USB.  FMLE is not recognizing the camera.  Any suggestions?

It's not that FMLE is not recognizing your camera.... FMLE is not recognizing your capture device (the iGrabber).
Just because a capture device can capture video as a file onto your computer doesn't mean that the device is made to deliver throughput video as a "live camera" source.  There is a big difference between recording to a file, and passing video through as a source.
An inexpensive caputre device that FMLE can see is the Dazzle Video Creator Platinum HD.  If you have a FireWire connection on your computer I would strongly suggest using the Canopus ADVC110 capture device (works like a champ -- no issues or errors).
If you change your capture device out to one that allows other software (like FMLE, XSplit, Wirecast, etc.) to see the video as a "source" then you'll be in luck.  iGrabber simply does not have that capability.  This isn't the fault of Adobe, it simply wasn't designed by iGrabber to be used in this manner.

  • I have Photoshop CS5.1 (bought in 2011). The photoshop Camera Raw plug-in is not recognizing the format of my new Nikon D610. I updated the version of my Camera Raw plug in and am still getting this message when trying to open images in photoshop. Please

I have Photoshop CS5.1 (bought in 2011). The photoshop Camera Raw plug-in is not recognizing the format of my new Nikon D610. I updated the version of my Camera Raw plug in and am still getting this message when trying to open images in photoshop. Please help.

This link shows that ACR 8.3 supports the Nikon D610 and 6.7.1 was the final version for CS5.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
So you can upgrade to CS6 and ACR 8.7.1
or using the DNG converter, convert your Nikon raw files to dng format to open in CS5.
Here is the download link: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 8.7.1
or Windows: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 8.7.1
And here is a great video tutorial on how to use the converter.

  • Iphoto 8.03 and it does not recognize the camera

Just downloaded IPHOTO 8.03, It does not recognize the camera
Not able to download new photos

What camera is it? Have you set it to PTP or Mass Storage? Did you check the cable, camera battery, try a different USB port? Have you tried using a Card Reader?

If neither iPhoto not IC can seethe card it might suggest an issue with the card or the ports on the camera/mac.
Try reformat the card, change the ports and/or use a USB Card Reader.

  • IPhoto does not see the camera

iPhoto does not see the camera, although it worked really well for two years. Computer has been regularly updated. Please help, thank You.

Image Capture doesn't see the camera. I have tried with two different Sony cameras, that I have been using for a long time on this computer. It is iMac 27''. Both of these cameras work normaly in MacBook Air, that means that the problem is not in the camera, or the cards. Those are the things I have tried so far. Only difference I created on the computer is that I have, two or three days ago, installed external hard drive WD My Book Studio which is connected to the computer by FireWire 800.

  • Why does iPhoto not recognize the .jpg pics from a Kodak C875 now? I can stick my memory card in the iMac and import them that way, but iPhoto will not import the pics from the camera.

Why does iPhoto not recognize the .jpg pics from a Kodak C875 now? I can stick my memory card in the iMac and import them that way, but iPhoto will not import the pics from the camera.

There have been many issues reported with Kodak cameras - serach the forums for them
Actually the best practise is to use a card reader to import your photos, verify that they are imported ocrrectly and wait at least one backup cycle and then use the camera's format command to reformat the card and erase it - this assures no lost photos and always having the card properly formatted

  • I am trying to import i frame from an SD90 video camera to iMovie, but it does not see the camera. Footage goes to i photo Why?

I am trying to import video ( i frame) from an sd90 ( listed for mac) but i movie does not see the camera. It imports into i photo. Is this normal ?

If you quit iPhoto and iMovie (with the camera still attached) then put the camera into VCR playback mode. Then launch iMovie and see if it can see the camera. If not, get out the power adapter for the camera and plug it into the wall, plug the camera into the power adapter. Reboot your Mac and wait for iPhoto to launch again automatically. Don't let it import the clips, just say No, quit the program. Then put the camrea int VCR/Playback mode, launch iMovie and check again to see if it can see the camera. Once iMovie sees it the first time it should be quicker to recognize it in future. But iPhoto does try to race in there and grab everything first.
To turn this off go to iPhoto Menu in iPhoto > Preferences > Look for Connecting camera opens: (click on the pulldown menu and choose No Application) This effectively turns off iPhoto when you first attach the camera. And it opens the way to iMovie recognizing it quicker.

  • Cannon EOS 40D and a MacBook Pro OS X Yosemite. My Mac is not recognizing my camera anymore

My Mac recognized the camera last night and imported the pictures I took. This morning, I cannot upload new photos. (I did drop my camera, but it works fine -THANKFULLY - so I am not sure why that would make a difference). My Mac is not even recognizing that the camera is plugged into it. I went into ulitities and my camera is not showing under the USB when it is plugged in. I have put in a new battery in my camera and rebooted my Mac and nothing is working. I appreciate any idea you have on how to fix this!

The cameras are fairly rugged and can take a few knocks (they're not that fragile)... but obviously there are limits.  So if the knock or drop was hard enough, I suppose it's possible that you've damaged the camera.  Does the body show signs of physical damage (did it fall hard enough to damage the body?) If you are using the Mac's "System Information" utility to check the devices connected via USB then it is important that you connect the camera BEFORE you start the "System Information" utility. This is because that utility only scans the connected devices when it is started and does not re-scan if devices are connected after starting.   There is a menu option under "File" -> "Refresh Information" (or press Command+R) to refresh if the camera was connected after starting. If the utility does not show the device then something is wrong with the connection (e.g. loose or bad cable, bad port, bad hub etc.).  I have gone through a number of external USB hubs with my own Macs.  It took a while before I finally found a hub that worked reliably.  I would frequently have devices that would show up in the device list when DIRECTLY connected to my Mac, but would NOT show up if connected to a hub (even "powered" hubs).  For this reason, if you are having any connectivity issues, please make sure that you are connected the camera directly to the computer. Remember, there are no drivers needed for the device to show up -- so if it doesn't show up it is not a software problem. As a backup plan, it is possible to directly import the images from the computer into the computer without using the camera.  I think the 40D uses Compact Flash, but you can get an inexpensive Compact Flash reader (I have a Lexar USB 3.0 reader that has both a CF card slot as well as an SD card slot.)  This is actually my preferred method to perform imports because direct reading from the card is faster than transfering via the camera's USB connection.
