Iphoto not saving slideshow settings

HELP!  I am DESPERATE!!!!!  I have been working on a 45 minute slideshow for my parents 50th wedding anniversary party ALL WEEK.  Iphoto is NOT SAVING my settings for the transisions between photos or the time each slide plays for. It is happening at random. No one at Apple has been able to help me...as a matter of fact I thought I was going to really lose it for about the 10th TIME when the last guy I spoke to tonight told me that I needed to speak with an IAPP advisor as he could not help me only being a senior advisor.  My questions is WHY THE HECK HAVE I NOT BEEN transferred to an IAPP advisor all week when I have been calling them repeatedly trying to get issue resolved.  This was the only person who said I should speak to someone in IAPP.  I now have only FRIDAY to get this resolved as the party is at my house on SATURDAY!!!!
I know other people have had some similiar problems (glitches) from searching the internet and yet the people I have been speaking with say they have never had someone call up with this problem.....????
Anyone else out there have this problem and find a way to fix it?
(BTW--they already had me go the route of trashing the psist file and some cache file among other things......)

Terence
Thank you for replying.  My ranting was just out of utter fustration of literally sitting at a computer since Sunday redoing and redoing everything in order to have try and have a nice slideshow for my parents rather than just dumping a bunch of photos & music into a slideshow.  It loses its punch when things don't fall into the proper place or transition right.....
2 things Apple had me do initially:
move a cache file and psist file out of library to desktop and then into my trash (I then did a secure empty trash)
senior advisor tried to have me duplicate the problem while he was accessing my computer---COULD NOT. He said unless I can duplicate for him he can't help me.  He also said that he has never heard of anyone else complain of this & has never heard of anyone making a slideshow so big???  Really?  It is 45 minutes with 375 pictures.  While a little lengthy I find it hard to believe they are not used to anyone makng a slideshow this long.
Anyways later I called back when I felt I could duplicate issue.  I spoke with another rep.  He had me change ALL SLIDES from 5 seconds to 1 second and unclick default transition thinking that this could be causing the system to keep wanting to ovverride my manual individual settings if I had any slide less than 5 seconds or another transition.  However he also was miffed by the "size" of my slideshow and said that Iphoto slideshow really wasn't meant for something of this size and suggested I use IMovie.  While I had never used it I tried it. After spending all day getting the photos in IMovie and in same order I started editing the transitions and slide times....well this was no good because if I changed one thing it caused a ripple effect and changed stuff.  Sooooooo I called Apple back and spoke with Senior advisor that told me that this is what Imovie does and I really should not use it for what I was trying to do ....he still felt iphoto slideshow was the way to go.  So we went back to iphoto slideshow hoping that the couple of small changes the other advisor had me do had worked....no luck. I then decided to try and start fresh with NEW slideshow, new settings and break up my one big slideshow into smaller slideshows & then eventually dumpt into Imovie......No luck.  With about 30 photos I noticed it wasn't saving my slide times again or now the speed of transitions.  So the bottom line is that there is a GLITCH with iphoto and I have seem similiar complaints on these forums.
I greatly appreciate your suggestion of trying other apps and would definately do that if I had the time but alas the party is tomorrow and I have only today to get it resolved and redone.
Thank You for Your Time
Heidi

  • IPhoto '11 Saved Slideshow not saving settings for individual slides

Please, need help in iPhoto '11 with Saved Slideshows. I will try rephrasing my question as I received no answers when I posted yesterday. I create my Saved Slideshow by choosing File>New>Slideshow. It then shows up at the bottom of my Source List under Slideshows. I am trying to have individual settings for each slide: timing, transition, and Ken Burns effect. I check each box in the "This Slide" menu and type in what I want. When I exit the Saved Slideshow the first two settings are saved and as I left them, but the KB box is no longer checked. It works fine when I click "Preview." I have carefully read all the forum discussions dating back to last fall and see that I am not the only one with the problem. Like others I noticed that the KB effect won't "stick" only on certain slides, mostly Landscape images. KB settings for Portrait images seem to "hold." I'm not a novice in creating Saved Slideshows. I've done this in iPhoto '08 with no problem at all. I reported this to Apple as a possible bug. I feel like there is now no way I can make the slideshow I want to burn to a DVD to share with family and view on a TV. As far as I can tell you can't do KB effects for individual slides in the latest version of iDVD without having made a Saved Slideshow in iPhoto first. Can anyone help me? I am so frustrated.

I am 99% sure that this has something to do with how NEF files work. If I understand them correctly, the original raw data is stored in one portion of the file and then versions of the file are stored within it (these are the 'versions' that you can make in NX2).  The versions are just whatever mathematical transformations are applied to the raw data to get the version of the image that you want to see.  It is a brilliant way to store information and many versions of photos (different sizes of crops, b/w, colour, sepia, etc...) in their highest possible resolution without taking up an inordinate amount of disk space.  The raw data are huge, but each version only adds a tiny bit to the size.
The problem with iPhoto is that it can only see the raw data - not the metadata containing all of the transformations to get the edited version of the photo. This means that if you load the photos  into the iphoto library as nef files and then edit them with an external editor (i.e. NX2), the files will be edited, and when you open them again in NX2 from iPhoto, then you'll see the edits, but the edited version will not be visible in iPhoto. If you work with NX2 and iPhoto (as I do), you basically need to save your edited versions of files as .jpg or .tiff and then re-import them into iPhoto.  It is a bit of a pain, but I am sure that it could be fixed in a future version of iPhoto.
    Cheers.

  • Iphoto not saving edits

I am editing a photo in iphoto, but it's not saving the edit like it says iphoto does automatically. The edited version shows up in the album, but when I click on the photo, it opens to the original, and I only see the edited photo when I click "edit." I have tried exporting it, e-mailing it, everything, and it always just shows the original. What do I do? I need to save the edit!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • IPhoto not saving editing changes:

I am attempting to edit changes in my IPHOTO library and notice that it's not saving everything that I want. It is making some changes i.e. brightness/contract, however sharpness and other editing options are NOT being saved. Very odd, I am wondering if IPHOTO 6 has fixed this problem? It appears others are having this problems with issue as well and no there does not appear to be any concrete answers. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

    Hello, Phez,
It may be that iPhoto's preference file has been damaged. Delete it and see if that corrects the problem. iPhoto will create a new one when it determines that the old one is gone.
Go to YourUserName->Library->Preferences->com.apple.iPhoto.plist and delete that plist.
Also, you should always repair permissions before and after any installations/upgrades. Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility. Select your hard drive's icon by its name, then be sure you are in 'First Aid' and choose 'Repair Disk Permissions."

  • Non admin user - changes not saved (Safari settings, system prefs, etc.)

iMac, 2 users, one is administrator and other is standard user. Recently, in the non-admin user account, it has become impossible to make any changes. For example, adding an application to the the Dock, after logging out and back in next time, the application is not in the Dock any more. Also, making changes to the prefs in Safari, changes are not saved.
I noticed this after installing FireFox v4. I installed it as admin whilst in the non-admin users account. However, I don't believe that the installation of FF has anything to do with the problem, it just highlighted it. I've checked the permissions for the various directories that hold prefs info such as user/libraries/application prefs/etc. etc. and also Safari prefs. Nothing I can see that has changed in system prefs.
Any ideas on what has caused the problem (kids are known to fiddle from within the non-admin account) and any ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks

    Hi PPRuNe,
You could try making the standard user an Admin too. To do this, make sure you are logged in to the standard user, go to System Preferences > Accounts > Standard user (you may have to unlock the padlock) > Allow user to administer this computer
This will allow changes to be made without being prompted for a password all the time.
However, if you had Parental Controls on, they probably won't work on an admin account because as an admin you have complete control over a computer, so the computer thinks there is no point in having the controls turned on. And if the kids are known to "fiddle," just think carefully!
    Hope this helps you.
    Chris.

  • IPhoto not saving simple edits

I have been using this current version of iPhoto for several weeks with no problems. Yesterday, it stopped saving simple edits even after hitting the done button. For example, I would crop a photo, click done, move onto the next photo and the previous edit would just disappear. It won't save simple enhancements or more complex adjustments either.
I am using iPhoto '11, version 9.2.3. There are no further updates available. I have not added any new software to my computer. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be welcome!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto not saving new imports

Suddenly when opening or trying to import photos I'm getting a new (actually my first) error message:
An error occurred while trying to save your photo library.
Some recent changes may be lost. Make sure your hard disk has enough space and that iPhoto is able to access the iPhoto Library.
I have nearly 100gb space available and I'm not sure how to point iPhoto back to it's library. The library is still there, and the imported photos are in it if I 'Show Package Contents' but if I close iPhoto and reopen the event will be gone.
Also my account has read/write privileges to the iPhoto library.
    Any thoughts?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto not saving

Everytime i make changes in iphoto (delete photos, import new ones, create albums, delete albums). on reopening iphoto, the previous version is still there.  Deleted photos are back in, deleted albums reappeared etc etc. Imports not there.   This problem is on my MacPro.  I have an IMac where this does not occur.
Is it me or a issue with the software.  Would it be useful to relaod IPhoto - is that easy?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • LR 1.4.1 not saving print settings on Mac OS 10.5.2

1.4.1 won't save (or use) any print settings other than "Standard". In the print module if I select print settings, choose a printer and it's settings (like paper type and color management) then close the dialog the settings aren't saved or even used. It will only print with the "Standard" setting.
Tried on 2 systems and with new database.
    - Joe

As far as I know, it's always behaved like this. The solution is to get the print settings the way you want, save it under Standard, and then save the setting as a Lightroom preset. The print settings will stick with the preset.

  • Iphoto not saving updated library

I've been trying to add my latest photos into iphoto and it copies them all across ok, shows them all in the library and I can rotate them or add titles etc but when I quit iphoto and then reopen it, the library goes back to how it was before and all the latest photos I've just added have disappeared. I've tried it several times but the new photos always disappear. When I first tried to add the photos, iphoto did unexpectedly quit so I don't know whether that's what's causing the problem but I've tried restarting, downloading the latest update and also trashing the plist so that it rebuilds the prefs and even rebuilding the OS 9 desktop just in case that would help but it's still happening. Any ideas? Thanks

    Sarah,
    Just a question.
Are these images imported into iPhoto directly from your digital camera?
Is the date set correctly on the digital camera?
Are these images imported from a folder on a hard drive?
Were these images taken recently or were they taken a long while ago?
Do you have the Library view set to "view by film roll"
Basically why I am asking this is because if you view by date and film roll, if the images were taken a while ago, or if the camera has the wrong date, you are not going to see them at the top of the library.
They will be placed in a roll in the library according to the date they were taken.
You should however be able to view the last roll of import by highlighting "last roll" in the source column.
other than that, do what Sam says

  • Iphoto not saving changes

My iphoto5 (5.0.4) has suddenly decided not to to save changes - eg: red eye or sharpening. I make the change, click done - but the saved image then resorts to the original (eg red-eye returned!) Anyone else with this problem, or know how to fix? thanks

thanks for responses! I tried phone support, but got nowhere - the guy I spoke to said he had not heard of the problem. I went to Apple shop in regent street - they suggested: first to delete i.photo preferences, then to create a new account (to see if the problem is with the soft ware or on the hard-drive) - and then if problem shows up on soft ware, to re-install i photo from the start up disc 1. I have not done any of this yet - but will give it a go. maybe of use to you too.

  • IPhoto not saving rotated image

I have a photo in iphoto taken at wrong angle, ie vertically, and I have rotated it in iphoto and want to save the rotated version. But it wont save it like this. What can I do please?

i rotate it in iphoto preview screen
What’s the “iPhoto preview Screen”? Do you mean in thumbnail view?
    I save it
    How are you saving it?
    and when I open it
    With what? From where?

  • External Adobe Reader for pdf, not saved in settings

    I'm using Firefox v32.0.2 (with Adobe Acrobat 11.0.9.29 Plug-in) on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.
Using the Adobe plugin for very large pdf files results in a stalling browser, sometimes for minutes.
Switching over to the external Adobe Reader in the mimetype settings works ok, but only for the current session.
After restarting the browser, the setting for pdf files is back to the Adobe plugin.
Indeed, setting "Preview in Firefox","Always ask","Save file" is stored in mimetypes.rdf,
but setting the external Adobe read is NOT.
By now my workaround consists of deactivating the Adobe Plugin; then pdf files are always opened with the external Reader.
But i would like to know how comes that setting external apps to read pdf files is NOT stored in the settings and therefore lost when restarting firefox.
Anybody know why that is ? bug or feature ?
    Regards,
    Gaston

    Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click Options (for Linux and Mac Preferences) button.
#In the Options (for Linux and Mac Preferences) window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right hand side you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • IScroll2 not saving my settings

I recently changed from SideTrack to iScroll2, and I love it, except it never saves my settings when I restart it. I actually have put an alias on my desktop that takes me directly to its preference pane to turn it on every time I use my computer. How do I get it to save my settings?

Make sure that you have the most current version (.32)... there were setting saving problems with a couple of prior versions while the author addressed leopard compatibility issues.
