Iphoto not saving

Everytime i make changes in iphoto (delete photos, import new ones, create albums, delete albums). on reopening iphoto, the previous version is still there.  Deleted photos are back in, deleted albums reappeared etc etc. Imports not there.   This problem is on my MacPro.  I have an IMac where this does not occur.
Is it me or a issue with the software.  Would it be useful to relaod IPhoto - is that easy?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto not saving editing changes:

I am attempting to edit changes in my IPHOTO library and notice that it's not saving everything that I want. It is making some changes i.e. brightness/contract, however sharpness and other editing options are NOT being saved. Very odd, I am wondering if IPHOTO 6 has fixed this problem? It appears others are having this problems with issue as well and no there does not appear to be any concrete answers. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

    Hello, Phez,
It may be that iPhoto's preference file has been damaged. Delete it and see if that corrects the problem. iPhoto will create a new one when it determines that the old one is gone.
Go to YourUserName->Library->Preferences->com.apple.iPhoto.plist and delete that plist.
Also, you should always repair permissions before and after any installations/upgrades. Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility. Select your hard drive's icon by its name, then be sure you are in 'First Aid' and choose 'Repair Disk Permissions."

  • Iphoto not saving slideshow settings

HELP!  I am DESPERATE!!!!!  I have been working on a 45 minute slideshow for my parents 50th wedding anniversary party ALL WEEK.  Iphoto is NOT SAVING my settings for the transisions between photos or the time each slide plays for. It is happening at random. No one at Apple has been able to help me...as a matter of fact I thought I was going to really lose it for about the 10th TIME when the last guy I spoke to tonight told me that I needed to speak with an IAPP advisor as he could not help me only being a senior advisor.  My questions is WHY THE HECK HAVE I NOT BEEN transferred to an IAPP advisor all week when I have been calling them repeatedly trying to get issue resolved.  This was the only person who said I should speak to someone in IAPP.  I now have only FRIDAY to get this resolved as the party is at my house on SATURDAY!!!!
I know other people have had some similiar problems (glitches) from searching the internet and yet the people I have been speaking with say they have never had someone call up with this problem.....????
Anyone else out there have this problem and find a way to fix it?
(BTW--they already had me go the route of trashing the psist file and some cache file among other things......)

    Terence
Thank you for replying.  My ranting was just out of utter fustration of literally sitting at a computer since Sunday redoing and redoing everything in order to have try and have a nice slideshow for my parents rather than just dumping a bunch of photos & music into a slideshow.  It loses its punch when things don't fall into the proper place or transition right.....
2 things Apple had me do initially:
move a cache file and psist file out of library to desktop and then into my trash (I then did a secure empty trash)
senior advisor tried to have me duplicate the problem while he was accessing my computer---COULD NOT. He said unless I can duplicate for him he can't help me.  He also said that he has never heard of anyone else complain of this & has never heard of anyone making a slideshow so big???  Really?  It is 45 minutes with 375 pictures.  While a little lengthy I find it hard to believe they are not used to anyone makng a slideshow this long.
Anyways later I called back when I felt I could duplicate issue.  I spoke with another rep.  He had me change ALL SLIDES from 5 seconds to 1 second and unclick default transition thinking that this could be causing the system to keep wanting to ovverride my manual individual settings if I had any slide less than 5 seconds or another transition.  However he also was miffed by the "size" of my slideshow and said that Iphoto slideshow really wasn't meant for something of this size and suggested I use IMovie.  While I had never used it I tried it. After spending all day getting the photos in IMovie and in same order I started editing the transitions and slide times....well this was no good because if I changed one thing it caused a ripple effect and changed stuff.  Sooooooo I called Apple back and spoke with Senior advisor that told me that this is what Imovie does and I really should not use it for what I was trying to do ....he still felt iphoto slideshow was the way to go.  So we went back to iphoto slideshow hoping that the couple of small changes the other advisor had me do had worked....no luck. I then decided to try and start fresh with NEW slideshow, new settings and break up my one big slideshow into smaller slideshows & then eventually dumpt into Imovie......No luck.  With about 30 photos I noticed it wasn't saving my slide times again or now the speed of transitions.  So the bottom line is that there is a GLITCH with iphoto and I have seem similiar complaints on these forums.
I greatly appreciate your suggestion of trying other apps and would definately do that if I had the time but alas the party is tomorrow and I have only today to get it resolved and redone.
    Thank You for Your Time

  • Iphoto not saving edits

I am editing a photo in iphoto, but it's not saving the edit like it says iphoto does automatically. The edited version shows up in the album, but when I click on the photo, it opens to the original, and I only see the edited photo when I click "edit." I have tried exporting it, e-mailing it, everything, and it always just shows the original. What do I do? I need to save the edit!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • IPhoto not saving simple edits

I have been using this current version of iPhoto for several weeks with no problems. Yesterday, it stopped saving simple edits even after hitting the done button. For example, I would crop a photo, click done, move onto the next photo and the previous edit would just disappear. It won't save simple enhancements or more complex adjustments either.
I am using iPhoto '11, version 9.2.3. There are no further updates available. I have not added any new software to my computer. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be welcome!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto not saving updated library

I've been trying to add my latest photos into iphoto and it copies them all across ok, shows them all in the library and I can rotate them or add titles etc but when I quit iphoto and then reopen it, the library goes back to how it was before and all the latest photos I've just added have disappeared. I've tried it several times but the new photos always disappear. When I first tried to add the photos, iphoto did unexpectedly quit so I don't know whether that's what's causing the problem but I've tried restarting, downloading the latest update and also trashing the plist so that it rebuilds the prefs and even rebuilding the OS 9 desktop just in case that would help but it's still happening. Any ideas? Thanks

    Sarah,
    Just a question.
Are these images imported into iPhoto directly from your digital camera?
Is the date set correctly on the digital camera?
Are these images imported from a folder on a hard drive?
Were these images taken recently or were they taken a long while ago?
Do you have the Library view set to "view by film roll"
Basically why I am asking this is because if you view by date and film roll, if the images were taken a while ago, or if the camera has the wrong date, you are not going to see them at the top of the library.
They will be placed in a roll in the library according to the date they were taken.
You should however be able to view the last roll of import by highlighting "last roll" in the source column.
other than that, do what Sam says

  • IPhoto not saving new imports

Suddenly when opening or trying to import photos I'm getting a new (actually my first) error message:
An error occurred while trying to save your photo library.
Some recent changes may be lost. Make sure your hard disk has enough space and that iPhoto is able to access the iPhoto Library.
I have nearly 100gb space available and I'm not sure how to point iPhoto back to it's library. The library is still there, and the imported photos are in it if I 'Show Package Contents' but if I close iPhoto and reopen the event will be gone.
Also my account has read/write privileges to the iPhoto library.
    Any thoughts?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • Iphoto not saving changes

My iphoto5 (5.0.4) has suddenly decided not to to save changes - eg: red eye or sharpening. I make the change, click done - but the saved image then resorts to the original (eg red-eye returned!) Anyone else with this problem, or know how to fix? thanks

thanks for responses! I tried phone support, but got nowhere - the guy I spoke to said he had not heard of the problem. I went to Apple shop in regent street - they suggested: first to delete i.photo preferences, then to create a new account (to see if the problem is with the soft ware or on the hard-drive) - and then if problem shows up on soft ware, to re-install i photo from the start up disc 1. I have not done any of this yet - but will give it a go. maybe of use to you too.

  • Lion not saving settings, iTunes not working, iPhoto not repairing

having a ton of issues and not sure if it's upgrading to Lion, updating iTunes or something else causing the problem.
    When I'm logged in as the main user getting a ton of problems including;
    1)  no matter which box I check or uncheck or which windows I close before shutting down, every time I log in as my usual user it opens about 20 windows including about 6 files in Excel which I've already closed, said I wanted to delete (they were recovered), etc.  Other windows that open are firefox, settings, a video I started watching about a month ago, etc
    2)  applications are frequently crashing
    3)  nothing will synch with itunes.  I plug in the iphone, ipad or touch and it recognizes that it's there and then proceeds to do the rotating rainbow thing for ever (I've tried leaving something plugged in overnight) or until I force quite
    4)  iphoto indicates that the library needs repairing - repairing does nothing, rebuilding does nothing, repairing permissions does nothing, removing and reinstalling does nothing.
5)  most settings are not saved.  things like changing the Login Items, 'Restore Windows when quitting...' option do not save but things like file sharing options does save.
    what I've tried that didn't work;
    1) reinstalling Lion
    2) reinstalling itunes
    3) reinstalling iphoto
    4) reinstalling itunes with iphoto removed
    5) tried quitting applications with option-command-Q (they still reopened when I re logged in)
    5) also tried to manually delete the 'saved application states' but can't get to the folder (can find the library folder but it says the saved application states folder does not exist)
the only thing that works is setting up a new user and logging in there.  Most of the problems seem to go away but all my files, itunes library, etc are under my other user.
so, anyone have any ideas?  if not, is there an easy way to transfer all my files, itunes library (hopefully including playlists!), etc?
    Thanks for any help!

Sounds like something malicious or malfunctioning in your user.
What you can do is use the Grouping or other tag feature to tag all your songs in certain playlists, this will apply to the song file itself.
For instance I have music grouped like this:
    Popular 00's Medium Hits
    Popular 90's Hard Hits
Classic Rock 80's Very Hard Hits
    Blues 70's Medium Hits
So I can create Smart Playlists containing the keywords in the Grouping.
No you don't have to go through all that. Something to think about in the future when you switch machines or need to transfer to another user.
You can simply transfer your entire iTunes folder into the Music folder of the new user via the Users/Shared folder, open a copy of the
    iTunes Music Library.xml
In TextEdit or another text program with "find and replace" ability.
Change all instances of your old user name with the new one, save and relaunch iTunes, it will load this file and have the correct pathname/user to locate your files so the playlists remain intact.
Once your up on the new user, delete the infected or corrupted one, as that what it seems to be occuring.

  • When editing a photo in iPhoto it is not saved

I am a completely new Mac user. When trying within Iphoto "quick" editing mode, when clicking "ready" (I am using a Swedish software) the changes are not saved. It seems as if I have to export it to another location and when using the export function, make the changes (eg transforming it into X number of pixels), place it into eg the desktop and then import it into Iphoto. Seems extraordinary clumsy?

Are the photos you're cropping from a digital camera?  If so then their size ratio is 4:3 which is the same as the 1000 x750 ratio your cropping to.
That 1000 x 750 isn't pixels, it's just a size ratio. So if you cropped a 4:3 image to 1000 x 750 and let it encompass the entire image there was no change to the image at all.  If you had resized the crop window down considerably it would have reduced the pixel dimension of the image.
As you found out you can change the pixel dimensions by exporting.  Or you can export at full size and use a 3rd party image resizing app like Resize! to resize both the pixel dimensions and (if so desired) the file size by applying more jpeg compression via the Quality slider to the file.

  • Books are not saved when created with iPhoto 09

I also have a book that seems corrupted because when i try to open the file iphoto jams and i'm not able to remove the corrupted book because the file can't be opened.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Sounds like a damaged database file. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.

  • IPhoto 11 not saving edits to file

Hi - I'm using iPhoto 11 on my iMac (new user) and I can make changes to photos (crop/rotate etc) which are reflected in iPhoto but then they are not saved in the original files in the Pictures folder.  I have tried to delete the com.apple.iphoto.plist file as some other forums have directed but it makes no difference. This is a problem if I am then trying to upload them to Truprint or editting them for posterity.
    All help appreciated, thanks

I can make changes to photos (crop/rotate etc) which are reflected in iPhoto but then they are not saved in the original files in the Pictures folder.
Of course not. Iphoto is designe to always preserve your original file. It never does anything to it. Your edits are ll carried out on a copy of the originls file.
Further, iPhoto is a database and you never, ever access the files via the Finder.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Iphoto 11 , How to save changes to photos, not saving -/ snow leopard

Hi , after much ado then discovering the recent "fix" for Iphoto 11 I started using it today. I uploaded new photos , edited them and quickly discovered that Iphoto was NOT saving any of the changes I had made. There  is no longer a  "Done" button so I went back to again check the few  photos I had adjusted , Iphoto only saved changes for one out of 10 of  the photos I had adjusted.
Is there a "save changes"  function I am missing here? Anyone else experiencing this problem?

How are you exporting? If you select the photo and export (file menu ==> export) with kind = JPEG or current the edited version will be exported
if that is not happening try renewing your preference file -
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Photos not saving to camera roll - iphone 5s

I upgraded to the Iphone 5s from 4s now photos are not saved to the camera roll. Took it to the Genius bar and they restored to factory settings, same problem but they later did a "deep restore" and it worked. When they restored my data, it broke the camera roll again. The only soultion seems to be to "start over". But this is not acceptable. How can I transfer some of the app data (texts, voicemails, and select apps) to the new phone?
Alternatively, how can I "fix" the camera roll?
Some hints: There is a folder in DCIM folder (when viewed with the app iExplorer) called 101APPLE that contains 49 phots and 2 movies from 2010 that I CANNOT delete. Iphoto wont delete them, they wont delete from the phone UI, and they cant be delete with iExplorer - in all cases it SEEMS like they delete then pop right back in!!

The only way photos would go to the camera roll would be if you restored the 5S from an older backup. If you transfered these photos via iTunes sync, they do not go into the camera roll.
