IPhoto not seeing camera pictures

When hooking up my camera to my computer, iPhoto recognizes it but on the import screen displays "no photos to import." However the Sd card in the camera does in fact have pictures on it (413 to be exact). I've even tried importing the pictures via image capture but the "no pictures to import" prompt appears. Any ideas to help with offloading the pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Hi David. This is a post I made in early Dec. Hope it helps. Best regards.
Hi discussions. This is just an answer to a problem I was having and might be helpful to anyone having iPhoto camera connection problems. First off, I have four apple computers; three running 10.4.11 and one, a new 2.8ghz MacBook Pro, running 10.5.5. The Canon 750 Elph is two months old. From the beginning it has connected to my desktop DP 2.5ghz G5 PPc, my 12" 1.5ghz G4 Powerbook (both running 10.4.11) and now the MacBook Pro. It would not connect to my wife's 17" 1.33ghz G4 Powerbook running 10.4.11. System Prefs identified the Elph connected to the usb high speed bus so I knew that the usb ports were operational. Image Capture stated; No camera connected. As always, all updates had been performed and permissions run. I trashed iPhoto '08 along with its prefs and all iPhoto receipts. I then reinstalled iPhoto '08 and ran permissions. Still no connection. It was time for Apple Discussions. I followed a thread from some weeks ago to try rebuilding the iPhoto library. I saved and rebuilt. No connection. My apologies for not remembering the user in the thread who stated that a reinstall of the last OSX combo update might do the trick. He was speaking of the 10.5.5 combo update so I figured it should be the same for the 10.4.11 combo. I did not know that you could install an update over the existing OS which has already been updated. I am always learning. BINGO! The Elph connected immediately. Thanks to APPLE DISCUSSIONS, I still have a bit of hair left and a wife who loves me. I hope maybe this post will save the hair of someone else.

  • IPhoto not seeing camera, only in my account

Hello all, I had recently started having a problem with our old Sony camera where when I plugged it in it would launch iPhoto, and that was it. It did show up as a mass storage device, but iPhoto wouldn't import unless I did it manually. I figured it was the camera, as it had other issues from being dropped.
So today I bought a new Canon PowerShot A590. So I plug that in and... same thing. So I try Image capture, and that doesn't see it either. So I install the Canon software, and that works.
Then I tried my wife's iBook running Tiger, and both iPhoto and Image Capture saw the camera. So then I went back to my G4 and logged in as root, which I only use for trouble shooting. iPhoto launched and saw thew camera and asked to import the photos. I tried repairing permission, deleting pref files, etc, to no avail. Also, since the Canon doesn't mount, I can't do a manual import.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • IPhoto not seeing my pictures from iphone

When I plug my phone into the computer it says I have no pictures on my device when I do. This has never happened to me before. what is wrong. Do I have to reset something?

    Details are critical
You post talks about photos - now you are talking about videos? WHich is it? And how are you transfering - WiFi sync or PhotoStream? PhotoStream as documented does not support video
Which photo formats does My Photo Stream support?
My Photo Stream supports JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and most RAW photo formats. My Photo Stream does not work with video.

  • Iphoto not seeing iPhone4S

iPhoto not seeing camera roll on iphone 4S. Have turned on Photo Stream because when iPhone is plugged into iMac, it no longer shows up as a device in iPhoto. How do I get the pics from phone to iPhoto. It will show any pictures taken after enabling PhotoStream on my phone, but not pictures on "camera roll."

Have turned on Photo Stream because when iPhone is plugged into iMac
If you have iCloud enabled there's no need to connect the iPhone to the iMac. Photos, apps, music, etc syncs via your Wi-Fi network.
Try switching Photo Stream off then back on in Settings > iCloud then reset your iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    And restart your iMac.

  • Iphoto not "seeing" most recent photos from my camera

When I connect my camera to iphoto, it does not see the most recent 27 pictures. They are visible on my camera, but when prompted to import, iphoto only sees the previously imported photos and asks if I want to import duplicates. WTHeck?

Launch Image Capture and see if it can recognize those photos and download them to a folder on the Desktop.
What camera do you have and does it have a removable memory card?  If it does connect it to your Mac via a card reader (your iMac may have one in its side) and copy the photos from the card to a folder on the Desktop.  Once you have the photos there and can confirm that they can be read (user Preview to view them) put the memory card back in the camera and reformat it with the camera.  Take some test shots and try importing into iPhoto again.

  • IMovie '09 does not see certain pictures in iPhoto

I made some panoramic pictures from other images taken and added them to my iPhoto '09 library. iMovie doesn't seem to see these pictures, even though they are saved and accessible in iPhoto. Everything is updated and I have tried closing and reopening both applications as well as restarting my computer. Does anyone have any ideas, or is there another way to import these pictures?

  • I can not see the pictures in the photo pane

I'm trying to see my pictures in the photo pane (the media section in iMovie) but I can not see them. I know that I have to have iPhoto 4 or later. I have iPhoto 6 but I can't still see the photos. Can you help me?????

If deleting the pref files didn't help, then it's likely a problem in the iPhoto albumdata.xml file. This is the file that other apps must read to access your library. It usually goes bad due to a problem keyword in your library. Look for non-ascii characters in your keyword list. One user had an empty keyword that caused this problem.
See Dave E.'s instructions on how to read the xml file to locate the problem keyword. If you find one, go into iPhoto's preferences to either edit or delete the problem keyword. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3870956&#3870956

  • I would like to use iPhoto to see existing Picture folder without importing

The following is a question for Aperture, as well.
I have a huge Picture file (90G), and I do not want iPhoto to import that Picture folder thereby making a duplicate. I only want one Picture file, the existing system folder called Pictures. And I want iPhoto to "reference" those files. I have seen references to setting up iPhoto (and Aperture) to use photos in outside libraries. I have seen them called "referenced"
But I can't find a specific instruction on how to set up iPhoto to do this. And I think it is crazy to have an iPhoto library of 90G, and an aperture library of 90g (already made that mistake, want to get rid of it), because that would give me three sets pf photos, with Pictures, and iPhoto and Aperture Libraries within Pictures (that's where the Aperture library is now). And the iPhoto library is there too, but is now empty. I do not want it to be filled. The User guide says Aperture (and by inference, iPhoto) can "link" to outside photos and create "referenced" libraries.
That is what I want to do, because I do not want my files within iPhoto and Aperture, because they are too hard to handle for other purposes, like using Preview for a quick look, or using Photoshop for editing. Not to mention the waste of disk space created by 2 libraries and the Pictures folder. And the confusion over time about which Photo is the real one.
Surely there is a better way, a way to have iPhoto (and Aperture) use the existing Picture folder in OSX (Snow Leopard).
    Can anyone help me here?
Just tell me there is a way to do this, please.
    Hope someone can help.

Your question is based on a false premise. It makes no sense to use iPhoto, Aperture and the Finder to manage the photos. The Finder isn't a photo manager. It's a file manager. If you can't grasp that distinction then you stick with the Finder. Both iPhoto and Aperture (and Lightroom, and Picasa) are Photo Managers. The entire point of these apps is to manage the photos without recourse to the files.
If you use a Photo Manager then you don't use the Finder's Quicklook, you use the application's viewing and sharing features.
Think of it this way: would you write your novel in Word, Pages, TextEdit and Nisus Writer at the same time? And also expect to be able to read it without launching your Word Processor?
    So, yes, this is crazy:
And I think it is crazy to have an iPhoto library of 90G, and an aperture library of 90g (already made that mistake, want to get rid of it), because that would give me three sets pf photos, with Pictures, and iPhoto and Aperture Libraries within Pictures (that's where the Aperture library is now).
Because you would not use all three options. iPhoto and Aperture do essentially the same job. If you've purchased Aperture then that's the one to use. It's the more powerful application.
But regardless of which you choose, when you do you give up looking at the files in the Finder, you use the Photo Manager.
, because I do not want my files within iPhoto and Aperture, because they are too hard to handle for other purposes, like using Preview for a quick look, or using Photoshop for editing.
Both apps provide integration with Photoshop. Using Photoshop via the Finder and not via the app will cause you problems.
None of these apps are like Photoshop. Photoshop is a layer based pixel editor. These other apps are Digital Asset Managers. It's not the same thing. Photoshop has no management capability at all.
And the confusion over time about which Photo is the real one.
Now you need to do some reading on Photo Managers. All of them use a Non-Destructive workflow. All of them preserve your original photos, The concept of the "real one" makes no sense when you have many possible versions based on a single master file.
You've not grasped the key distinctions in managing digital photos. You're confusing photos with files, confusing the file manager with a photo manager and have given no consideration to Digital Asset Management. I would consider these issues before going any further.
FWIW: using a referenced Library with iPhoto:
    *How to do it:*
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
    *What Happens:*
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
    *Some things to consider:*
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.
    My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organiser
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Using iPhoto with Photoshop:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
    Regards

  • IPhoto Not Seeing, Not Auto Launching with Either Canon PowerShot

Suddenly iPhoto on my MacBook Pro does not see and does not automatically download images from Canon S5 IS nor from my PowerShot A640.
I reinstalled iLife '08 but that made no difference.
Just to check, iPhoto saw and uploaded as normal from a Konica Minolta DiMAGE A2 (different cable but same USB on the computer end of it.)
To check the Canon cables, I tried the cable that came with the S5 and the one that came with my PowerShot A640. Neither cable works.
Also, when I connect the cable, it disables the scroll wheel, i.e. camera will not scroll through photos stored in it.

  • IPhoto not seeing migrated photos

I recently purchased a used MacBook Pro after my old iBook crashed. I was able to save all my files on an external hard drive, and the migration went smoothly. However, iPhoto has not recognized the iPhoto files I brought over from the ex. hard drive. At first all the iPhoto files showed a red circle and were locked. I updated the permissions on these and the red circles are gone, but iPhoto still does not see the files. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How did you migrate the photos over? The correct way is to copy the iPhoto Library folder/package from the Pictures folder on the old Mac to the Pictures folder on the new Mac, launch iPhoto and let it convert the library to the new format if needed. Is that what you did?

Dual 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4)   2 GB DDR SDRAM

You can't just upgrade to QT7 for some reason..you have to do some other trickery to get it to recognize your camera.
    Again, found by simple search:
    1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).
    2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where "*" is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed.
    3. Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.
    4. After your computer reboots, you should be able to restart FCE and see your camera.
