IPhoto not working after trying to share iPhoto between iMac and MacBook Pro
I tried to share my photos on both my iMac and MacBook pro. It deleted all my photos in my MacBook and now it won't let me even open iPhoto in my iMac and gives me the following message "You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
How do I rectify this? Purchase iPhoto from the App store?
What version of iPhoto do you have on each system?
It sound like you propbably have a newer version of iPhoto on the MBP - and thay you opened the iMac iPhoto library using the newer iPhoto - if you did you were warned that doing this would convert the library and that the older version of iPhoto could no longer open the library - the error message you list says that this is what you did
If you did the only options are to restore your iMac backup from before you converted the library, upgrade iPhoto on the iMac the same version you have on your MBP purchasing from the App store or use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - to downgrade your library

Any best practices sharing iPhoto library between iMac and MacBook Pro
I have my iPhoto library on my iMac, but I would also like to view and edit keywords, etc on my MacBook Pro.
Any suggestions on how to do this?Larry
There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running. On the other machine enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running on both machies for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto ion both machines.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions
On each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both machines will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

Was it just this one time? Could be that you, or your mom, were experiencing network problems. Try again at a later time.

AirDrop used to work between my iMac and MacBook Pro. Now, when I try to transfer a file (either direction) I get a message that my certificate is invalid or that the file has not been accepted. What do I dot correct this?

I have 2 IMacs and MacBook Pro and can not work simultaneously on FCP on all workstations when the network port is open. Can anyone help me on this?Did you purchase Final Cut Pro from the Mac app store? Or install it from disk? If from disk, you may have installed it on all machines using the same serial number, and using all of them simultaneously violates the license agreement. If you purchase from the App store the licensing is different and that may not apply.

Home sharing iMac and MacBook Pro: not all songs are playable

I set up Home Sharing between my iMac and MacBook Pro so that I could stream the music that's on the iMac to the MacBook Pro. On the MBP there are no songs, all of them are in Apple Lossless format on my iMac. I first tried to use "‘share my library on my local network" but because I wanted the play count to go up as well I chose for "Home Sharing". Setting up was simple. After all preferences were adjusted, I opened iTunes on the MBP and it immediately found the shared iMac library. There's now only one problem: not all songs are playable. Some don't even start. How is this possible and what do I need to do to resolve this?
FYI: the iMac is connected via ethernet to my cable modem which sends a wireless Wi-Fi signal to the MBP. Signal quality is excellent.
Also, is it possible that playcount is only available with Home Sharing and not with "share my library on my local network"?
Thanks!It very well could be the antivirus app, most are intrusive and debilitate rather than enhance performance and should be removed using the developers instructions. You haven't really told us anything useful such as any settting you may have changed. However if you began working backwards resetting any changes and uninstalling the apps added since the performance issue started then you probably will find your issue.

WD My Passport 1TB USB external drive randomly ejects from my iMac and MacBook Pro.
The drive is approximately 4 years old. When the drive is plugged in, I can see the data. It appears to be working properly. The only problem is that everyone of my Apple Machines are ejecting it. Several years ago, this drive connected to Mac machines with no problems. I have tried two separate USB cords. I have updated the firmware. I have tried it on my MacBook, two different Macbook Pro's, and my iMac.
All give the same result of random ejection of the drive and the error message of:
Disk Not Ejected Properly
Eject "1TB Passport HD" before disconnecting or turning......
Searching through the web, it seems this is an common/known problem. Does anyone know the solution?

What's the best way to share my Aperture and FCPX projects between an iMac and MacBook Pro?

I own both an iMac and MacBook Pro and I'm interested in figuring out the best way to have access to my iTunes, Aperture and Final Cut Pro X files not only when I'm at home using the iMac, but when I'm out and about with the MBP.
I'm sure there are others among us who require a similar setup so I was hoping you guys could share with me how you solved this little problem, and also inform me of any potential negatives for your method so that I'm well prepared. Thanks.Best is a subjective term, as it will ultimately come down to preference. The fastest however, would be to wait until they market has a few thunderbolt drives available for purchase...
But like the first poster stated, a firewire 800 drive, would be the more convenient choice for now. Or you could set the shared folder on your iMac to be avaible on your network and use it to allow your MBP to access it wirelessly.
Obviously whatever you change, just save it back to the same folder on the iMac. Keep in mind it will not be as fast as the first suggestion (unless it is a wired network), but may be usefull for smaller files.
However, you should have everthing backed up via an external drive, that is always useful... -
Used the right memory according to page, both for my iMac and MacBook Pro, iMac worked, MacBook Pro didn't start (warning tone).
Any idea?I suggest you buy your memory from OWC or DataMem. Both guarantee the memory works or will replace it if it does not, no questions asked, within their 30 day return period. I've used both for over 20 years, and no complaints.

An adaptor doesn't burn out. It merely serves as a means to connect the power prongs on your device to the power supply.
I believe you are thinking of a transformer, which you do not need. A transformer converts one voltage to another.
You don't need to do that as the power supply of modern electronics can take almost any worldwide voltage.
Look at the label on the device. It should indicate the input power acceptable of 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
Additionally, I found the adapters cheaper in the UK than I found them in the US. They were available in most supermarket chains. I wasn't in Ireland, so I can't say one way or the other.
If you have something that doesn't have that input power spec, it would require a transformer.
On other items like electric clocks or things with motors, you can connect them up to a transformer and the voltage will be correct, but the frequency may not. For clocks, that will cause them to not keep time well. For motors, they will burn out. -
How is it best to keep files synced between iMac and Macbook? I work from home on my iMac and then out in meetings on my Macbook and need to have access to the same files on both. The folders are using Microsoft programmes as this is compatiable with 90% of my colleagues, therefore I can't use the Icloud service.
No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom. -
My Imac and macbook pro stopped accessing my MP640 via the home wifi set up, so I sent all the canon software to the trash on both computers, thinking I should reinstall the software I got with the printer, but the software does not recognise os 10.7.5. I am using a netgear modem. I also use time machine to back up to time capsule.

When I try to see my Grandson on webcam out of state the login will not activate. For PC use I needed Java and Active X to let it run. My Java is checked as ready to go but nothing happens. [email protected] or [email protected]By default, OS X does NOT come with Java installed nowadays. You need to open the Java Preferences app found in Utilities; when you do that the first time, it will inform you of the fact and offer to install the product for you.
Afterwards, due to a major security issue we had back in the first quarter of the year, the plugin is disabled by default. You need to revisit the Preferences and enable manually. It will auto-disable if unused in awhile.
Lastly, you may have to adjust which Java instance is being used, the 32-bit or the 64-bit. Default is 64-bit, but some applets crash & burn or outright refuse to run in such a platform. You can prioritize which version you prefer by dragging on top in the Preferences.
