IPhoto on iPhone opens wrong pictures

I tried to access a photograph on my iPhone 4s, clicking on the picture I wanted; iPhoto very briefly displayed the picture, and then switched to a photograph in a different album. Even though it still indicated the album I wanted was selected - "kid pictures" - it would show only photographs from the other album - "travel," for example. iPhoto on my iMac shows the pictures correctly. I have not tried to synch the iPhone as yet, as I'm concerned about corrupting the iPhoto library on my Mac, but I have shut off PhotoStream, for whatever help that might provide, and I have restarted the iPhone several times, to no avail.

On my iPad quitting an app and restarting it often helps correct problems like this. Here's how to do that on an iPad:
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.
Can you do this on an iPhone? Let me know.

iPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon.  It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?

Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened?  Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..

If your new computer doesn't have any photos added to its iPhoto Library, simply copy the iPhoto Library folder over to Pictures.
You can name it anything and put it anywhere, but then you have to point iPhoto to it (the first time, then it remembers) by launching with Option held down. You get the option to Choose Library and then you navigate to the iPhoto Library folder of your choice.
If your current library folder is going to be the entire iPhoto Library folder for your new computer as well, then you can just make it the only iPhoto Library folder in your Pictures folder (on the new machine)
How you actually get it there - you can use Migration assistant, but I prefer non-automated ways to do it and I'd simply use an Ethernet connection (slow unless you have gigabit ethernet) or a Firewire cable.
The simplest way via firewire cable:
    - Boot the old machine in Target mode (shut down, start up with T key held down - you'll see a firewire symbol on your old machine, indicating it's merely a Firewire hard drive, functionally.
    - Connect its firewire port to your new machine's firewire port via 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable, and it will mount as a Firewire hard drive (you can connect it before you boot up)
    - Go into the drive, to your iPhoto Library in /Users/(your name)/Pictures/ and drag the folder into wherever you want it in your new machine's hard drive. Don't go inside and drag pieces of the iPhoto Library. Do the whole folder.
    - Wait for it to finish, then eject the "Firewire HD" from your new machine
    - Press the Power key on your old machine, it will shut down. Disconnect the firewire cable and then your old machine can power up like a Mac again.
    - If you chose to move your empty iPhoto Library out and put the one with photos in its place, iPhoto will find it. If you chose to call this something else and/or place it somewhere else, launch iPhoto with the option key held down, and use the Choose button. Navigate to this renamed/relocated iPhoto Library and click Open or Choose. You're done.

  • Wrong pictures, no-shows, after editing... when running a preview or in full movie mode, iMOVIE does not show exactly the content as was provided in the project field. All files works great in iPHOTO.

    Version: iMOVIE 11, 9.0.4
No new updates, 7 sept 2011.
Something is wrong with the project that I am working on.
When I add new pictures and movies, some of them will not be played in the preview or fullmode at all. Some pictures are wrongly understood by iMOVIE or there are some kind of weird errors or bugs in the program. I dont really know what the problem can be. All of the pictures and movies are imported from 2 cameras, Kodak and Canon, and they all work great in iPHOTO.
I also use tranistions, text, etc, to make the movie look good.
Here are some examples of the error, all of these picture where taken while running the preview movie. You can see the moment in the movie process by following the red line in the project field window.
    1) Here you can see that it shows the wrong picture in the preview compared to the project field.
    2) Here it shows the wrong picture and it also displays the wrong picture in an undesired strecthed mode.
    3) Here are 2 examples of one picture that blocks the other pictures from beeing seen in the video.
What could be causing these stupid errors and bugz? Until this is solved I have stopped workoing on my movies and project, awaiting a fast fix.
    Thank you!

    Try this step:
Go to one of the problem points (or even all of the them in the Project Browser) and select it. Under the File Menu>Optimize>Large (960x540). See if will process the clips, still images and try playing it back again.
If Optimize>Large is grayed out, try pulling the clip out of the Project Browser, close iMovie. Open it up again and putting that clip back in its place. Then try to Preview it again and see if playsback properly.
Last thing to try is go to File Menu>Duplicate Project, quit iMovie. Open iMovie, go to the Duplicate Project and see if you get a working Preview from the Project Timeline.

  • Whenever i go to open a picture message in full view the black loading screen just comes up with no picture? (verizon iphone 5)

I have a 32gig iphone 5 on verizon and whenever i go to open a picture message the black screen that says loading just comes up and i can't view the picture... any help? PLEASE!

Try using the wall charger to charge your iPhone.  Some USB ports do not enough power to charge your phone, or at the very least, it will take a much longer time than a wall charger.
You will find that after having it plugged into the wall for 10min, it will have enough power to indicate that the battery is now charging.
Save your money from buying a battery for your next iPhone  :-)

After upgrading to Yosemite (I don't have iPhoto anymore, only PHOTOS) my pictures will not import from my iPad or iPhone 5s or any picture from web, it shows "Database Error: failured to persist version".  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry,
Yes, the error message is exactly like that  ("Database error: failured to persist version")
No photos will import at all.  I use USB to import from iPhone 5s or iPad 2.
About the difference?  iPhoto and Photos .  Are there two softwares?
I also will like to merge and/or synchronize all my photos I had saved to iCloud backups, Macbook Pro,  iPhone 5s and iPad hard drives using iPhoto.  It's call iPhoto library.  At one point I turned off streaming.
    Thanks again Larry HN.

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

Hi, well as the title states:
How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.

  • Cannot open older pictures in iPhoto library after upgrade

    Hey there!
I just updated my iPhoto from 6.? to iPhoto '08. When I open it, I can access events & pictures that are almost a year old, but no older. When I open the iPhoto "package" on my desktop, I find all of my older photos, still intact. How can I access them from iPhoto '08? I can't import them, because when I open the import option, the iPhoto library is greyed out (un-select-able). Do I need to create a new library?

I think part of my problem is that I edit in Photoshop & "save as"
    This is unnecessary.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends +a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
The problem with renaming in iPhoto is that it doesn't change the name of the original file, unlike in Bridge.
But are you trying to rename the Picture or rename the File? In iPhoto (and in photo apps in general) you add a title to the Photo, not rename the file.
And if I edit in Photoshop & "save as" under a different name, does that show up in my iPhoto library, or do I have to import it?
If you create a new file you need to save it to the desktop and afterwards import it.
If you want to have different versions then duplicate the pic before sending it to Photoshop. Or use Aperture.
Can I do that iPhoto? I'm thinking I could create a different library on my external, import older photos into that library, then remove it from the laptop library, is that possible?
Yes. Easiest and best way: use iPhoto Library Manager to create the second library and then move the selected pics/albums/events to the archive library. It's the only way to do this and preserve all the versions and all the metadata.
If I put a photo in the iPhoto trash & empty the trash, does that remove that photo from my laptop for good?
    Yes.
Am I correct in assuming that the "modified" images are copies that iphoto has made & any editing I save is on those images?
Close but not quite. When you edit a pic either with or via iPhoto, then iPhoto creates a copy of the original and saves the edits on the copy. If you subsequently re-edit with iPhoto it reverts to the original and applies a sum of the edits, so you avoid generational loss.
So if I edit a photo and save it (not "save as"), but I want to revert to the original, iPhoto just accesses the copied image from the Original folder?
It reverts to the Original file and destroys the modified copy.

I have an iMac4.1 and my iPhoto is very slow and the thumbnails correspond to the wrong pictures.  How do I fix this? Or is my iMac too old?  Will getting a new iMac solve this problem?
I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem.  Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos?  Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?

The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.

Have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader? You need to direct it to the location of your old iPhoto Library by clicking the "Choose Library" button in the lower right corner of the panel you are seeing when the upgrade starts.

When I try to open a picture in iphoto a message tells me the file cannot be found. How do I find the file?  It does not happen with all the pictures.

Is you library a "referenced" or "managed" library:
That message is generated when a library is a "referenced" library and the location of the files have been moved from where they were when originally imported into iPhoto.
Are the photos that this is happening to in the same Event(s)?
What system are your running?  Where is your library located? How much free space do you have on your boot drive?

  • My iPhone 4s is not importing my latest photos into iPhoto, though it opens iPhoto as if it were going to do it.

My iPhone 4s is not importing my latest photos into iPhoto, though it opens iPhoto as if it were going to do it.  When I plug my iPhone into my iMac, it opens iPhoto, but then it does not import my newest photos.  Any fixes?  This used to work fine.

Re: To those with iPhone not showing up on iPhoto...

I have experienced the exact same thing... I figured out a way around it, which seems to work every time. 1. quit iTunes
    2. open iPhoto
    3. unplug the iphone usb cable from the computer
    4. turn your phone on, and unlock it.
    5. plug in the usb cable. after about 10 seconds or so, iPhoto should prompt you with items to import. -p
