Iphoto on Leopard

In Leopard, are we able to change the name of the folder or file in the iphoto library folder on Finder?

Hi Terence,
I got now iLife 08.
Everything is back to normal again.
What a great application is this.

  • RAW support in iPhoto 8/Leopard

Does anyone know if Apple added support for any new digital cameras in iPhoto 8/Leopard? I'm planning on buying an Olympus E-410 soon and would like to know if iPhoto will understand and display the RAW files it produces.
Does anyone have experience with this, or at least know of an up-to-date list of supported devices?

Haha. Just where the address says it was!
Seriously, a little poking and prodding turns up a lot of stuff. Some basic searching, looking in the Knowledgebase, reading online reviews...

  • IPhoto with Leopard - Portrait or Landscape Selection when Printing?

How do you choose to print Landscape or Portrait using iPhoto with Leopard?

You don't have to. When you select the paper size and printer the orientation should be set automatically as displayed in the preview window.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto in Leopard: photos not available

In Tiger, if you opened the Pictures folder you would be able to access all of your iPhoto pix through all the various years' folders. Now in Leopard, when you open the "Pictures" folder all you get is a generic "iPhoto Library" icon (clicking on it just opens iPhoto). Where are the photos now?!
My main issue is that I am trying to reconnect several photos into a Final Cut Pro project. When it asks for the location, I can't direct it to a particular folder like I could in Tiger. Instead I can only point it to this "iPhoto Library" icon which does nothing.
Anybody know where the iPhoto pix are now kept...and how I can access the folders thru FCP?
    Thanks for your help!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
This has nothing to do with 10.4. iPhoto 08 is the same on 10.4 too.
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To reconnect to the FCP project you'll need to export the pics to a folder.

  • Import iPhoto6 library (Panther) to iPhoto 8 (Leopard)

    Hello -
Sorry if this is a redundant posting, I've searched through the forum and am still not clear how to achieve the following:
I previously used iPhoto 6 on my iMac with Panther and the photo library was kept entirely on an external hard drive. I just purchased a Macbook Pro with Leopard and want to import my iPhoto 6 library into iPhoto 8 and move all of the photos from my external drive onto the Macbook Pro's hard drive. Reason is that my iMac ran out of space but now I have plenty of room on my MBP hard drive. One important detail may be that I can no longer boot up my iMac as I have done a very stupid thing and fried the power supply. However I can mount the iMac drive via USB to my Macbook Pro to transfer any files necessary.
    Thank you in advance!

are there any other files I need to copy from my old iMac drive like the .plist or things like that?
No - the iPhoto library has all the data and the install did everything else
And when you say copy the iPhoto Library, you literally mean, the entire library including all the folders with the photos from my external hard drive?
Yes - you want the entire iPhoto library in you pictures folder - when you launch iPhoto it will upgrade the old library to the new format - then import your newer photos (It sounds likeyou have them ready for that - if you did not you should export them from your new iPhoto library BEFORE you overwrite it with your old one)
However, this led me to see one big difference in the iPhoto 8 Picture Folder and the iPhoto 6 Photo Library folder - namely, there are no folders in the Picture folder with the actual photos. There's only one file, called Photo Library and when you click on that, it opens iPhoto 8. So this begs the question, where are the photo files stored in Leopard?
The photos are all in the iPhoto Library -- you can inspect the contents by right clicking (control click on a one button mouse) and select show package contents -- BUT do NOT change anything in the package or you risk losing everything.
For more complete information on the package and how to access it see TD's post here - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1329949&tstart=15

  • Iphoto and Leopard upgrade?

I just had Leopard installed. I backed up my hard drive and photo library but can't find iPhoto anymore.
Is iPhoto hiding somewhere on my system, or do I need to by iLife 08?

iPhoto is not part of the OS - it's part of iLife.
If it came supplied with your Mac - you will be able to re-install it with the original restore disks. Insert disk one and there should be an option to install bundled software.
Of course, you can just upgrade to the latest version...

  • Use of old iphoto with leopard

I was surprised to see that iphoto was not included with the operating system on my new dual core system running 10.5. My old imac ran panther(g4) and a friend suggested loading iphoto that was included on the panther 10.3 operating system onto my new system which I did. It shows iphoto as a successful download in my applications folder but when I try to run it it doesn't run. Is there an additional program I need to load off the panther operating system or am I crazy to try this as for some reason they are incompatable?

None of the iLife applications are included with any operating system release.
They do come preloaded on all new computers (as far as I know - at least in the US) and are on the restore disks that come with the new system - did your new system come with Leopard preinstalled or did you upgrade it after you got the system? If it came preinstalled then iPhoto should be there - if you did an erase and install to upgrade then you need to load iPhoto and the rest of the iLife applications from the original install disks (use the custom install - install bundled software optin)

  • Thumbnail and image issues iPhoto 'o8 & Leopard

I installed iLife '08 a few weeks ago and then installed Leopard on the day it was released. I have recently imported a few high-res images (adjusted in Photoshop CS2) and some of them are listed in my iPhoto library but I can not see the photos. I simply get a black thumbnail and when I double click the image it does not appear in the separate window. I can see the image when I go to make a slideshow, but I can see the image when viewing it in the folder or event. Any idea what the issues are?
    Thanks,

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Downloading RAW files in iPhoto on Leopard

Installed Leopard with iPhoto 6 and Aperture, and can download .jpg files, but not RAW. Download freezes. Using Nikon D-80. Anyone with similar problem?

I just upgraded to 10.5.1 Leopard and am still using iPhoto 6, and it recognized that I have raw + jpeg photos to download (the number of shots I took times two), but it only downloads the jpegs. I can manually add the raw images to iPhoto from my camera (Nikon D70), and I can open them once they're in iPhoto.
Maybe it's time to upgrade to iLife 08?

  • Iphoto with leopard

I want to upgrade my OS 10.4 to OS 10.5 (Leopard).  I have a G5 power PC processor (not intel).  I have the disc to upgrade.  Will I lose all of my photos in iPhoto?  Will I still be able to use iPhoto?  My computer is not compatible with iLife 11 because I do not have the intel processor required.

You don't have to. When you select the paper size and printer the orientation should be set automatically as displayed in the preview window.
    Do you Twango?

  • IPhoto and Leopard

Since installing Leopard, iPhoto fails to open. The error message states that the "library not found". The iPhoto library is still in my document folder and when copied to another computer, opens just fine. How do I fix this?

Quit iPhoto and restart it with the option key depressed and navigate to your library when it asks you for your library

  • IPhoto 08, Leopard and multiple users

I just installed Leopard. Under Tiger, I have tried unsuccesfully to share my IPhoto library with other users on my computer. In particular, I tried article 304890: "iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users". Has anything changed with Leopard ?
    Thank you so much.
    Cesco

Many people using the Shared Folder find that they have permissions issues which mean that they 'other' user can't see some part of the Library. Therefore, if you want to share the Library in that way it's best moved to an external disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and set to ignore ownership and permissions.
can both users add photos from their iPhones via iPhoto on their respective accounts and have the new photos show up on the other users iPhoto app?
    Yes.
would the newly added photos sharing be automaticall be set to the folder sharing settings?  ie, view and edit for both users?
    Yes.
if i edit the photos with say photoshop, will the changes show up in iphoto?
If you set this up corrrectly -  You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
You will need to do this in both accounts.
would timemachine back the data up automatically?
TM can be set to back up externals. There are other options too, of course.
when I upgrade to a new computer will everything work the same.
Yes. Just plug in the extenal and point iPhoto at the external from the new machine.

  • QuickUpload to Snapfish after iPhoto 08/Leopard upgrade

My wife and I have been using Snapfish for years both on Windows and Macs. The Quickupload tool has always worked flawlessly through Safari. 2 weeks ago, I upgraded our MacBook Pro to Leopard and iPhoto '08. Now all the pics "fail" when uploaded through QuickUpload. However, they do upload using the one-by-one method (which is not practical). This is a pretty big deal for us since we probably upload 50-100 family pics a week for family back east.
Any ideas? Can I reload the QuickUpload plugin? Any advice is much appreciated!!

The Snapfish plugin is called "Photo Center Plugin.plugin" and it's in the main Library->Internet Plugins folder (not the user Library). I am not using iPhoto 8 yet - but the plugin works fine with iPhoto 6 under Leopard. I'm not sure why it would matter which version of iPhoto one was using though - this is a plugin for browsers, not iPhoto.
Note - it took a couple of tries to install the plugin on my G5 running 10.4.11 - not sure why. I had to download the thing several times and retry before it finally worked. On my MBP running Leopard, it was fine.
BTW - if you want to look to see if Safari sees the plugin, with Safari open, go to the Help menu and click on the Installed Plugins option. You'll get a nice long list.
Hope this helps. (Please let us know if it does!)

  • Movies iPhoto - Snow Leopard upgrade

Hello. I have just installed Snow Leopard on my Mac & I use iPhoto '08. I have tried playing videos that I captured using my iPhone but they aren't playing. Does anyone know why? I have had a search on here and someone said to go back into the snow leopard install folder and install the QuickTime 7 which I have done but after I restarted my machine the videos still don't play.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you able to play the videos with either of the Quicktime Players? Are you able to play any movie files other than your iPhone? If the problem is limited to iPhone video files only then I would suggest you also pose your questions in the iPhone forum and/or the Quicktime forum. iPhoto 08 only passes off the video files to Quicktime for playing. So it's more a QT issue.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current.
NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.
