IPhoto on Mini needs upgrade because I accessed from laptop??
I have 8.1.2 on the laptop and apparently 7.1.5 on the Mini, and by accessing the iPhoto library on the mini, it made the mini's iPhoto inoperable. Both computers have the same OS X, 10.5.8.
The message I am getting is...
You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto.
Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
Then, when I hit the Quit button, iPhoto closes, leaving me no chance to check the version, or upgrade. I only found out the version by using the Library Manager.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If I go with option 2, how do I do that if I cannot even open iPhoto on the mini?
You don't need to open iPhoto to update the iPhoto application
I also have a back-up hard-drive, but I have never used it to retrieve applications.
In this case it's the Library you want to recover, not the app.

There has never been a Mac version of Access. Microsoft never created one, realising that it was very inferior to the FileMaker Pro database application.
So if you must run Access you will have to run Windows on your mac. -
IPhoto says I need upgrade after OSX upgrade to 10.9.4.

Advice needed on fast streaming/access from external HD (Video/Music apps)

I'm a computer musician and have reached the max on my internal SATA drive, and thus I'm looking for an effective, extra-fast external HD capable of intense sample streaming (i.e. quickly accessing many small files from different parts of the drive at once). I'm not looking for write speed, as that does not concern me. The main concern is "read speed."
In my search I came across this eSATA drive from segate which seems to have been designed with my needs in mind: http://www.creativemac.com/articles/...e.jsp?id=53423
However, it takes PCI 2.2, while us dual G5 users only have PCI-X, correct? Does this mean this particular eSATA drive will not work in my system? Are there any eSATA drives/enclosures that were designed specifically for PCI-X? Is eSATA worth it when compared with FW800 in my line of work? (I already own a Lacie FW88 drive as a backup drive, but can switch its application if needed). What is the best technology for fast streaming/access from an external HD?
I'm sorry if this topic has already been covered, but in my search I was unable to find any topics specifically regarding this type of use of an external HD.

Why am I unable to send emails or open folders from my Outlook email when using my iPad? My Outlook is functioning normally when accessed from my laptop. This problem has been going on for three days now - everything was functioning normally before. I have looked at the standard troubleshooting suggestions provided by Apple, but they do not appear to cover this eventuality. I should be most grateful for any help.
Try first to Clear your cache from : Tools > Options > Advanced > Network, Clear Now button.

Mini need old G4 to access internet??
I have a Mac mini new last Nov. It worked fine until a 2 weeks ago. I have it connected to the internet via a Westell router, That router also serves our older G4. The mini will access the internet as long as the g4 is turned on, if I even put the G4 to sleep it looses it's connection. I had printer sharing turned on so the G4 could access the printer via the mini. I turned that off, switched ethernet cables around even reloaded the operating system. If I turn on the mini the light on the router only flashes slowly. As soon as the G4 is turned on they appear to talk and then the mini logs on to the internet. put the G4 to sleep and the mini looses connection in a couple of mintues. I've tried a lot of things and can't figure this one out. Help Please!
It doesn't matter if the G4 in plugged in or not. The mini will not work with the router ethernet or wireless. I was on the phone with Verizon for over an hour today and of coarse they blame it on the mini. They had me ping the ethernet card and they had me try to ping the router. It was not able to ping the router with the 2 different cabled that we tried. So I brought it to work and plugged it into the same model Westel versalink router as I have at home. Works fine. So I have to believe this mini just won;t talk to the router I have at home. All the replies that you kind peoiple have come up with have been covered to this point. There is something in this mini or in the router that will not leave it talk with that specific router.

Qemu-kvm: network access from host to guest
I need ssh and http access from my host (Arch) to the guest (other Linux). I've failed at setting up Tap networking as described in the wiki. I don't need to have the whole LAN access the guest, so is there another way the host can access the guest? Using the guest's IP of 10.0.2.15 doesn't work, but I'm hoping there is a way to do it.

Ok, I've followed the instructions from the wiki.
One problem is that I'm on a laptop. eth0 is wireless and eth1 is wired. I chose to use eth1 since I thought it'd be easier to get working on one device before trying to make it work on both.
1. bridge and tun modules are loaded from rc.conf
2. In /etc/conf.d/bridges I have this:
bridge_br0="eth1"
BRIDGE_INTERFACES=(br0)
3. In /etc/rc.conf I changed my networking portion to this:
eth1="eth1 up"
br0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(eth1 br0)
4. In /etc/udev/rules.d/65-kvm.rules I have this:
KERNEL=="tun", NAME="net/%k", GROUP="kvm", MODE="0660"
5. My user is part of the kvm group, although I have also tried running qemu-kvm as root.
6. In /etc/qemu-ifup I put:

sudo tunctl -d $IFACE &> /dev/null
My system starts with br0 getting the dhcp IP on boot, so that part is working.
When I run the qemu-kvm start script I get this error (running as user or root):
/etc/qemu-ifup: could not launch network script
Could not initialize device 'tap'
/etc/qemu-ifup is executable

I cannot access iPhoto now I have upgraded to Yosemite. Not available in UK! What can I do? I have hundreds of photos I need access to and more to save on my computer.
iPhoto should be still in your Applications folder and will still work. But if you failed to keep it up to date then Try Terence's instructions here Is Iphoto gone ?i want it back!

Why is my iPhoto 9.5.1 blocked?
Message on pop up screen says I need the Library Upgrader tool, when in the very discription of it: "If your library is from iPhoto (v8.x) or later, you don't need to use this tool."What version of iPhoto did you have prior to upgrading to iPhoto 9.5.1? The following is from this download page: iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1
This tool prepares libraries from iPhoto 7 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto.
So if you previous version of iPhoto was 7 or earlier you need to download (it installs in the Applications/Utilities folder), launch and apply it to your iPhoto Library before opening the library with iPhoto 9.5.1.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

This error message will appear erraneously, if you skipped the update to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1 and went straight from an earlier MacOS X version to Yosemite, without first updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 and associating iPhoto to your AppleID.
Try first to buy iPhoto with your AppleID instead of updating. Delete iPhoto from Applications, but don't empty the Trash, then go to the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto. If you are lucky, it will show as free and you can buy it directly.
If iPhoto is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support: Ask for a redemption code. You will need to provide a prove of purchase for your mac with iPhoto preinstalled.

I'm trying to update iPhoto 7.1.5 on my old iMac (running 10.9.5) to current versions so I can get my photos onto iCloud to access from my iPad. I can't seem to find an upgrade route that will work? Any suggestions?
For Mavericks you need to upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1.
You cannot buy this version from the AppStore, since the current version is iPhoto 9.6, and that requires Yosemite. The easiest route for you would be to upgrade to Yosemite. Then you can simply buy the newest version of iPhoto from the App Store and can use iCloud Photo Library (iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ), once it has been release for the Mac as well early next year.
If you want to stick with Mavericks, you'll have limited iCloud features, only the Photo Streams (iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ), but no iCloud Drive (iCloud Drive FAQ) and iCloud Photo Library. And to upgrade iPhoto you need to buy an iPhoto '11 installer. It comes as part of iLife '11. You can try to buy a boxed version from Amazon or try to find it at eBay. Once installed on Mavericks, download the iPhoto '11 updaters from the apple Support Downloads page. -
I've tried to open my iPhoto and a message box opens up and reads "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." I update this and this message continues to pop up. I've even tried to rebuild it, but no matter what I do the same message appears and iPhoto still wpn't open. Can somebody please help me?!
i'm having the same problem with my iMac (Mac OS X 10.7.5) . i haven't really made any updates to it and yesterday when i tried to access the iPhoto library of my MBP (from my iMac) is when problems started. The iPhoto on the iMac initially said I need to install the recent version of the iPhoto. Since I can't find a 9.0 download, I went to buy the iPhoto on the App store.
When I tried to install iPhoto (version 9.4.3) to the iMac, I got this message:

I then installed the iPhone Library Upgrader, but I got the same prompt:

I want to upgrade to snow leopard from 10.5.8. Im hesitant to proceed because I'm running iPhoto 7 and word 2004. I want to be sure these programs will still run and I won't lose my photos or the events I have ordered them by. Should i make a partition on my new Iomega external and clone it just in case? I'm running time machine and backing up all the time onto an old LaCie, and right now I have a copy of my iPhoto library on new Iomega, which I recopy every couple of weeks. I got the computer new several years ago and it came with iLife and 10.4 OS I think.
Word 2004 is almost 10 years old, you will not be able to upgrade beyond Snow Leopard with it. IMHO you have gotten your money's worth out of the application and need to upgrade to Office for Mac 2011, this will work just fine and read your old files just fine too. What will not run beyond SL are all PowerPC (PPC) apps such as Word 2004. You will need to update, upgrade or replace any PPC based apps you want to use. I would recommend taking a little time and check for updates to each of your apps. Then open System Profiler (Applications - Utilities - System Profiler) click the Applications link on the left and then look for any PPC based apps, those are the ones that will not run. You can upgrade to SL just fine with the apps you currently have however if you want to go beyond SL (it's already 2 generations behind) you will need to update or upgrade your apps. You can take your time doing it but eventually you're going to have to begin

Need an upgrade because of an AWFUL phone-- but not due until July.
I am on a family plan and I have the primary number. I have an LG Ally and a 150 mb data plan. I got this device in November 2010. Since then, I have had to get multiple new Allys because they keep breaking. The first one died after about 2 months-- it just wouldn't turn on one day and they couldn't get it to turn on. The next one did the same exact thing after about 3 months. I got my newest Ally in June and already, this one is dying. It freezes constantly, turns off for hours and won't turn back on and won't hold charge for more than a few hours, even though I barely use it for anything besides texting and the occasional data use and have installed an app that is supposed to save battery.
I honestly just want a new phone. I do not want to get yet another Ally because they are terrible. I would even go back to my old LG Env because that lasted 2 years without breaking once. My issue is that I am not due for an upgrade until July 2012 and I have a data package.
Is there any way to get an upgrade (because the phone they sold me is terrible) at a discounted price, even though I'm not due for one until July 2012? I can't afford any upgrade w/o a discount, especially to another smartphone. If I can't get the new phone, can I go back to an older phone, but get rid of the data package, since both of the Verizon phones I have are not smartphones? No one else in my family has a smartphone.
I went to the Verizon store and they had no idea because the associates that work at the store in my town are morons and can't answer these questions. I tried calling customer service and cannot get through. I was on hold for like 20 min earlier.
I just want to ditch my Ally, honestly. It is the worst phone I have ever owned, and I had a RAZR in high school! I just don't know what to do. I need my phone for my job and to keep in touch with my family and friends who are all over the USA. I just hate my phone and would take an old flip phone over it!I honestly don't want to sell this phone to anyone. It is a total piece of crap and is going to die very soon, which would rip them off totally and I don't want to do that. I don't think anyone would want to buy an Ally either because they're so old, by phone standards. I have used phones, but they are not smartphones. I might suck it up and buy a used smartphone, and activate to that if I can't work something out with Verizon. I just think it's shady that they sold me this awful phone and I can't do anything about it. I wonder if it's the store. I got them all at the same store, so maybe that's the problem. I read somewhere on here that I could probably get a phone of equal value if my Ally is still under warranty, which I think it is. If no one can answer this and I can't get an answer from Verizon, I'm going to try that, then if that doesn't work, I'll just buy a used iphone or something.
