IPhoto on my eMac

Recently I acquired a 1T EHD for storing my photos and graphic supplies. The first few months everything worked beautifully. Lately, I've been having some issues. Sometimes my imports abort and I have to start over. Yesterday when I wanted to export I also had a new problem: this is the message I received "unable to create/users/...." The photo did not export. Later, I went back and tried another photo and had success. Sometimes, when using iPhoto and I increase the photo to maximum size, I get a blank (as if there is no photo).
I have a suspicion that the problem is because I have a USB connection with the EHD. I did not think about this when I purchased it. If I had, I would have made sure that I had a Fire Wire hook up. Does this make sense? Am I on the right track?
Is there anything else I can do to make the connection more stable? At least I think it's a connection issue. Maybe not. Advice and suggestions are appreciated immensely!!

Make sure Energy Saver is never set to turn on. Many third party USB devices get upset over the power loss when the machine goes to sleep.

  • Transferring iPhoto collection from eMac to new iMac

I'm stumped here. I tried burning CDR back-ups of my iPhoto collection (with Tiger installed) on the old eMac and then inserting the CDRs into the new iMac which has Leopard installed. That doesn't seem to work. Many of the photos are only a few kbs in size. Yet some are around 400 kbs too.
There must be an easy, efficient way to transfer photos. After all, these are Macs we're talking about!!
    Any ideas? Thanks from Canada.

I actually did copy iPhoto from the eMac to a portable HD. Still no luck. However what I did was drag the desktop iPhoto icon to the portable HD. It took awhile to transfer but it still doesn't seem to work. Maybe just dragging the iPhoto icon isn't the right way.
I find it odd that even when I burned iPhoto to a CDR from my eMac (this was when it was able to hold my photos, now there's way too many), it still wouldn't transfer to the new iMac's iPhoto. Again, I must be missing something fundamental here. I'm just so used to dragging and copying.

  • Moving old iPhoto file from eMac to new iMac (iPhoto 6 to iPhoto 8)

I plugged in a portable hard-drive to my old eMac, dragged the iPhoto icon into it and waited as it copied into the portable HD. When I tried up-loading it into my new iMac (with iPhoto 8), nothing would happen. Same for iTunes. Any suggestions? I'm sure I'm missing something critical. Thanks from Canada.

Wow. I must be really slow. I tried entering that info (using Richard Campbell)for USER NAME and still nothing would show using Spotlight.
I've bought a firewire cable and will try connecting it from my old eMac to the new iMac. maybe using the migrating software will help. Or is that a bad idea?

    Hi Tman,
When viewing the photos in iPhoto are the thumbnails
blank and also blank when double clicked?
When you navigate to Pictures/iPhoto Library in the
Finder is the 2006 Year folder containing the
    Months/Days empty?
Yeah i click the thumbnail and just a larger gray box appears. In the finder, the pics in the 2006 folder are there and everything is normal. The pics show up etc. It seems to be only in the actual iphoto program.

  • Moving iphoto from external HD to new MBP

I wouldl ike to copy iPhoto from my eMac to my new MBP. iPhoto is currently on an external HD, would it be best to use migration assistant to copy it to the laptop or to install fresh and then afterwards copy the old iPhoto to the new laptop? Does that make sense? I am new to transferring files from old to new computer. Thanks to anyone who can understand my question!

Simply copy the entire iPhoto Library Folder from it's current location to the Pictures folder (in your Home Folder) on your new Mac.
Next, because there mighr be file permissions issues - especially if you've chnaged your User name - Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
    Then Launch iPhoto.

  • Restore iPhoto from CD

I need to restore iPhoto to an eMac for which I have the original software restore CD's. It is a model M9150LL/A, an 800 MHZ USB 1 type, running OS 10.4.11. I deleted iPhoto, thinking it would not be used on that machine, but now I need it back. How do I just re-install iPhoto without reinstalling everything else?

Download & install Pacifist http://www.charlessoft.com/ & you can extract it from your disc.

  • Move itunes from external HD to new laptop

I would like to copy my iTunes and iPhoto from my eMac to my new MBP. I have both on an external HD. Is it better to start with fresh install on the laptop and then to copy my iTunes -or -to transfer them using the migration assistant when I set up the laptop for the first time? I've never moved files from one computer to another so it's a bit daunting for me. Thanks to anyone if you can help.

If you value the meta data that you have accumulated- like playcounts- simply use the migration assistant. It works great.
You can also start the emac in target mode if you want, but then you have to know which files to drag over.
I assume that iTunes, and iPhoto, on the eMac, know about the files that are on the external drive. If this is the case, you won't have any problems.

  • Blanks where thumbs should be

My dad's iPhoto (on an eMac, Tiger 10.4) won't show his photos in iPhoto--he just gets blank blue squares where the thumbs should be. We did recently back up his internal drive to an external one, and his photo library just passed the 10,000 images mark, if either of those are relevent.
    Thank you for any help!

I thought he might have let go too soon! But I tried it, to no avail. Actually, it's not blue squares that appear, but the "shadows" "behind" the thumbnails. And the file names are there--just no actual images. And the iPhoto library (even rebuilt) is something like 350 MB.
It's a mystery--though less pressing, now that we've confirmed an intact library on his backup drive. . . .

  • Importing photos to new iMac

    Hello,
I just recently bought a new iMac and transferred my old hardrive (eMac) to the new machine.
I want to now import all of my photos into iPhoto 6. What is the best way to do this? Everytime I try to import / add to libraby I receive an error "Unrecognized format....). However these pictures were in iPhoto on my eMac, can't understand why they are not being read.
Any help would be much appreciated

If the username is not the same on both computers, you will have to change the permissions on the iPhoto Library folder to you as the owner. Make sure you have read/write permissions and click the check box at the bottom to "apply to enclosed items"
Get info on the iPhoto Library folder

  • How do I add 10G pic's from eMac iPhoto 5 to new macbook with iPhoto 6?

How do I add 10G worth of pic's from eMac iPhoto 5 to new macbook with iPhoto 6?

If you want to maintain the roll, album, keywords, comments and other info you'll need the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. Currently it's the only way to merge libraries and keep all that information.

  • IPhoto/eMac upgrade

I have an eMac that I am going to use to display photos only. It runs on OS 10.3.9 and operates quite nicely. I use iPhoto all the time on several of my other macs and like it just fine. The original software that came with the eMac has iPhoto 4. I would like to upgrade iPhoto 4 to iPhoto 5 to get the searching capabilities.
I owned a Mac Mini that the mother board failed on and replaced it with a new mac mini with Snow Leopard. It is a great replacement. I would like to use iPhoto 5 from that set of install discs (from dead mac mini) but it will not install onto the eMac. I have erased the disc on the eMac and tried to load the Mac Mini software but it tells me that “the software cannot be installed on that machine”.
The dead Mac Mini system is 10.4.2 . Is 10.4 not compatible with the eMac or can someone give me some guidance on how to use the software that I purchased (from dead Mac Mini) but do not have a computer for?
If I can’t use the dead Mac Mini software disc to get iPhoto 5, does anyone know how I can get iPhoto 5? I do not want to upgrade the system unless it can use the 10.4 from the dead Mac Mini. I thought that after I’d wiped the eMac clean I would be able to install the dead Mac Mini system & software.
    Any thoughts would be helpful

Purchase and install iLife 05. The Mac mini's original disks won't install onto other Macs.

  • I'm running iPhoto '08 on an eMac G4 using OS 10.5.8 and have lost my photo library. Any ideas to help me "find" it--I know it is on the disk?

I'm running iPhoto '08 on an eMac G4 using OS 10.5.8 and have lost my photo library. Any ideas as to how to find it and /or rebuild it? I know it is there on my disk.

However, in pictures there seems to be a complete set of my photos(?).
    I'm don't understand what you're saying here.
In the iphoto window I somehow managed to open a type of "photo library" that includes every photo I've every downloaded on my computer in multiple and entirely random order.
This can happen if someone inadvertently drags the HD icon or even the home folder icon to iPhoto Window. The best soluion for that is to restore from your back up.
