IPhoto on Windows?

Hi. Over the years I have amassed a large number of photos in my iPhoto library which I have available to my various Macs. However I have recently had to add a Windows machine to my collection and was wondering if anybody knew of a program that I can run in Windows that is able to read from my iPhoto library. If not can anybody suggest a good alternative to iPhoto, as I suppose I can always manually add the image folders.

It can't be done. It's a Mac OS application only.

  • Iphoto cannot open photoshop file in iphoto editor window

I use iphoto to capture raw images from my Nikon D70 and then I use photoshop CS2 to edit them. I recently edited a raw photo in CS2 and then saved it. The image showed up in iphoto, but I could not open it for further iphoto manipulation. I tried going back and saving it as a JPG, but I photo would simply display the pinwheel whenever I tried to open it in the iphoto editor window. Is there some reason that I am not able to open this image?

    Jeff:
How did you edit the raw file with CS, from within iPhoto (having selected PS as the image editor to open in iPhoto's preferences) or from the Finder after finding the location of the file in the iPhoto Library folder?

  • Png files are over each other in the iphoto import window

When i connect my iphone to the mac to import photos in iphoto, the png files are over each other in the iphoto import window. Jpegs are also showing up in the iphoto grid with new photos but each box contains 1 photo, which is normal. With png pictures, iphoto puts up to 3 pictures on top of each other in each box.
    Anybody has seen this before?
    Kind regards,
    Jeff Dehaes

oops, sorry, re-installed iphoto and it works again, they weren't even png's just jpegs...
    Problem solved.

hello     when I try to send photos using the iphoto  a window comes up to tell me that my email server didn't rercognize user name /password  how do i correct this .. as i have cganged my email address  but i can't get rid of the old  one    thank you   marie

    Hi Cody\'sgirl,
If you are having issues emailing photos directly from iPhoto, you may want to double check the email account information that is set in iPhoto. You may find the following article helpful (the section below is about setting up a new account, but it should be the same location to check existing account info):
To set up a Photo Mail account:
Choose iPhoto > Preferences, and then click Accounts. If you’re in full-screen view, move your pointer to the top of the screen to make the menu bar appear.
Click the Add button in the lower-left corner.
Click Email, and then click Add.
Choose your email service provider. If your service provider isn’t listed, choose Other.
Type the requested information. If you use the Mail application included with OS X, some account information might be filled in already. If you’re not sure what to type, contact your service provider.
You can set up more than one Photo Mail account by repeating these steps for each account. When you send an email, you can change the outgoing account by clicking the From pop-up menu and choosing an account.

  • Every time I open iPhoto a window opens telling me that there are 3 photos that have not been imported. Recovered folders are opened with no photos and I cannot find which photos have not been imported. Help please!

Every time I open iPhoto a window opens telling me that there are 3 photos that have not been imported. This happens twice. When I answer yes then nothing happens and if I answer no then a recovered folder is opened with no photos in it. These recoverable folders keep opening with no photos in them. I cannot find which photos have not been imported. Can anyone assist please?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • Copying/Moving photos in iPhoto to Windows PC

I have an iMac running side by side with Windows PC via VM Ware Fusion 3. Because I have ProShow Gold running in Windows how can I copy/move photos (album/folder) from iPhoto into Windows so that I can create slide shows like I used to before I bought the Mac?
    DLPT

There are a bucket of ways to make a folder on the Desktop:
Using the contextual menu as you describe
    Using File -> New Folder
    Pressing Shift-command-n
There's even a new Folder button in the Export dialogue.
But however you do it, you need a folder to receive the pics as you export them from iPhoto.
Then +in the iPhoto Window+ select the Pics you want to export and go File -> Export.

  • How to copy photos from iphoto to windows hard drive

I wanna back up my iphoto to windows hard drive.
    thanks.

I share the Mac iPhotos folder \\COUNTERPWN\Pictures\iPhoto Library.photolibrary\Masters and create a shortcut on my windows desktop. If you want you can use Microsoft Synctoy and run it whenever you want to back them up. Kind of reverse order, instead of going from Mac to Windows to backup, go from Windows to Mac and back again. lol hope that made sense.
Just make sure you have File Sharing selected and Windows Sharing on in prefrence for you iPhoto folder.

  • IPhoto close window

Is there a simple way to script iPhoto to close the current window (library), but not quit? I have a script that calls the menu using UI scripting. But, I can't seem to get a simple script to do the job. Telling iPhoto to close window doesn't seem to do anything. Nor does close photo library album, or any other object term I can come up with after close.

While you might need to be more specific, the first thing I'd try would be:
    <pre class=command>tell application "iPhoto"
    close window 1
    end tell</pre>
That's an almost universal format that should close the front window in most apps, regardless of different types of windows that are supported.

  • Black or Gray Column on right side of iPhoto 11 Window

There's a black and sometime gray column on the right hand side of the iPhoto 11 window, cutting off some of pictures.  When I try to resize the window I get a lot of weird horizontal lines.  Has anyone seen this before?
    Thank you,
    Ryan

I am having the same issue

  • IPhoto 11 window won't open, only have full screen view

After I upgraded, the iphoto window would not come up. The menu bar at the top is active, and I am able to access my photos from Full Screen View. But when I toggle back, and close full screen, everything closes...
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • I can't get my iPhoto menu window to open up after installing Ofoto Express

I think I am going crazy but I just installed an application from kodakgallery called ofoto express that enables a user to drag and drop photos from iPhoto on a Mac and upload it to kodakgallery. I want to order holiday cards but now that I've installed it and open iPhoto, my menu window does not show up.
Any clue as to what's going on? Thanks in advance.

In the past, we have used Kodak Easy Share Gallery, so I was looking at Ofoto Express, as well, to smooth the upload. However, I DIDN'T install it, because Ofoto is an OLD name for Kodak Easy Share (actually Kodak, purchased Ofoto years ago). So, looking at the system requirements, it was clear to me that Ofoto Express has not been kept up to date (I think it's stated min requirements were OS9, with no mention of OSX?). I would think it may not work. For that reason, and because I hate uninstalling bad software, I simply chose to skip it.
Kodak now offers this software, instead of the ofoto software: http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/downloads/dln_ekn026079.jhtml?pq-path=450 9
To sum up: I would recommend uninstalling the ofoto app, if it's not working for you, or visit the Kodak support page, and ask them to verify it works on Tiger with iPhoto08. Or, just install the Kodak software from the link above.
Having said that, in my house, we are running a comparison on our new Mac using iPhoto vs. EasyShare, and I think the iPhoto services options are winning the battle! There are a couple of minor benefits of using EasyShare, but iPhoto is overall easier to use. We are waiting for our orders in the mail from both services, to compare quality of both services. If iPhoto meets or exceeds Kodak Share, we are switching.

  • Can I access iphoto from windows

I have a imac 27" (2011) running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4.  I have installed Parallel and running windows 7 because the photo program I use (Paint shop pro) doesn't come in mac format.  Can I access iphoto photos from the windows side without having to have them loaded in a directory in windows as well.

You may be a better man then I am, Gunga Dinn!
So far all of my attempts at keeping systems in sync have ended up in dismal failures.
My suggestion is to settle on one platform. It will make things easier in the long run.
After reading reviews on Pain Shop Pro, I don't find it anything to get excited about at all.
I think rather then using iPhoto on the Mac, you should really look at Aperture. It is far more powerful that iPhoto at editing photos plus it provided DAM capablitities also. To me it appears to be a more powerful tool then  Paint Shop Pro also.

  • Missing iphoto photos/ window will not open?

While working with downloading photos from a CD, I dragged some files from my hard drive Pictures Icon into the trash. When I tried to open iPhoto again, the wheel just spins and iPhoto will not open. I went back to "Pictures help" and read that items should not be moved from "Pictures." because it may affect iPhoto!!! I dragged everything from Picturers back out of the trash and back into the Pictures window. iPhoto still will not open. What can I do now to open iPhoto?
    imac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iPhoto 4.0.3

Start iPhoto while holding the shift+option keys until you're prompted to confirm your intention to rebuild the database. Click "Yes", the click "Save". Give it a few minutes.

  • Something Similar to iPhoto for Windows? (In-laws computer, help!)

I have been tasked with updating the in-laws computer. Part of that task included regular maintenance such as spyware removal, virus scans, defragging the hard drive, and general clean up/organization. It also includes installing Service Pack 2, which I am doing right now. May luck be on my side.
Next I'm installing iTunes and will attempt to get their music library in order.
But the thing I'm having the most problem with is finding a suitable photo editing program for their computer that is similar to iPhoto. Mostly, I just want a program that takes their photos from the camera and organizes them into a library. When I had Windows over 2+ years ago, I had no idea how frustrating it is to sort your photos without iPhoto. Now I couldn't live without it. They have the same problem - no organization whatsoever when it comes to photos. They've got photos EVERYWHERE, most of them have about 4 copies because they haven't learned how to delete the photos from the camera after importing them into the computer.
Anyone have any ideas on any photo programs for Windows that are similar to iPhoto?
    G5 1.6   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    glb:
There is no equivalent to iPhoto for PCs. There are other image management applciations. The only one I'm familiar with for the Windows environment is iView Media. However the user will have to upload the camera to a select folder each time and then have iView catalog those files. You can have iView upload to a folder but you should established some folder hierarchy system beforehand to keep confusion to a minimum. If you go to VersionTracker.com on the Windows side and search for image management or image browser you're bound to get a lot of potential candidates for the job.
Or you could be the best son-in-law going and get them a Mac Mini. They can use their existing keyboard, mouse and monitor. Ha. Good luck.

  • Problems with iCAL,iPHOTO and Windows XP (using parrallells) after Leopard

I installed Leopard and now iCAL won't publish to the web. When you try to access it from the web it says the page can't be located... that the calendar may have been deleted or renamed. No body at Mac can figure it out so far.
I also can no longer open iPHOTO or any applications in Windows XP which I run from Parralells. This is a new issue that just occurred 3 days after the intial installation of Leopard.

Because I created FAT32 partition using Boot Camp tool few days ago I installed my custom copy of Windows XP with SP3, IE7 and WMP10 integrated using nLite (for WMP10 integration use RVM Integrator). I did not use Boot Camp tool this time - I just booted CD using Option key. Then I installed Boot Camp 2.0 drivers you can find on Mac Disk 1. After this I installed Boot Camp drivers 2.1 update. In Add or remove Programs I checked drivers - I uninstalled old drivers which call identical, but you can skip this. Everything works fine BTW it is better to format your partition to NTFS - you have much less disk errors, you do not waste time for disk errors scans during Windows startup, your data are much more safe. If you need NTFS write permissions use great tool Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX or open source NTFS driver.

  • Emailing Photos from iPhoto some windows users have trouble with them

Some of my friends using windows computers either cannot see the iphoto attachments or cannot save them. Is there a setting in iPhoto that I can change to make sending the photos more windows friendly. The only way I have found to do this is to export the photo and then attach it, which is a lot of work

select the photo(s) and click mail - when Apple mail opens and completes composing the e-mail go to the format menu and make "plain text" -- of in the Mail preferences set plain test as the default
