IPhoto Only showing May/June 2008 Photos - 1993 - 2008 missing!

I have my iPhoto library on my 1TB TC. It is about 25GB in size.
When I open iPhoto it only shows the last two months photos the previous 15 years are missing!
I do have it fully backed up on another drive at another house. But I am very concerned as to what has happened to this one.
It looks like something happened a couple of months ago. The file is 25GB and if you open the package it has all the photos in date order under Data folder.
How do I get iPhoto to re-open all the missing years.
I am on the road for a few days from Sunday morning so if there are any suggestions I'll work them through when I get back.
If anyone has any ideas on how to recover these photos it would be very helpful.
Also, if anyone has any ideas on how I could manage these photos better I would appreciate it. The system worked really well when I could keep them all in folders in date order with a subject for each theme. iPhoto is helpful but gets really very slow indeed.

I only have 2GB on my iMac 2GHz iMac maybe if I had more it would be better?
That is way too low for reasonable performance. It's usually suggested you have a minimum of 15GB free space on the boot drive and more like 25 GB if you use iDVD. I think you'll see a big improvement in performance if you create more free space on the boot drive.
One way to regain some real estate on the boot drive is to use Monolingual to remove the unneeded language modules. Be sure not to delete the English module or very bad things will happen. I've recovered up to 2-3 GB when I've run it on installations that have not been cleaned out previously.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

my computer has some serious problems, my iphoto only shows  only shows thumb size pics when I try to open them, i tried to rebuild my files from folders that had the pics in them. originally all the photos had a large delta with a question mark. also I can't back up the library file because its not there. I went to time machune and tried to find the file but I can't find it or I am looking in the wrong place. I also lost my Idvd file, only have broken chain showing.

    Details please
What version of iPhoto and of the OS?
i tried to rebuild my files from folders that had the pics in them.
Exactly what did you do and how did you do it? this ay be the cause of your issue but without details we can n=ony guess
my iphoto only shows  only shows thumb size pics when I try to open them,
where do you see htis? In the iPhoto window? what does "try to pen them" exactly mean?
originally all the photos had a large delta with a question mark.
Ok - this usually has a simple solution - do you still have a copy of the library that has this problem?
also I can't back up the library file because its not there.
This makes no sense at all - all of your previous statements indicate that you do have an iPhoto library but have some problems with it
By default your iPHoto library is located in your Pictures folder and is named iPhtoo library - if tha tis not the case the you have moved or renamed it and only you know what you did until you tell us the details
I went to time machune and tried to find the file but I can't find it or I am looking in the wrong place.
Again unless you actually share what and how you are doing thing but continue to simply state abstract problems it is no possible to assist you - details on using Time Machine are here  --  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US   --     and   --    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html   ---
I also lost my Idvd file, only have broken chain showing.
This would be better addressed in the iDVD forum - but again unlesss yu share detailed information no one can assist

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • HT4906 iPhoto only downloaded some of my photos from photo stream

I have over 200 photos on photo stream but when I set up iPhoto only 51 of them downloaded. I thought perhaps only the more recent photos may have been downloaded but it's a mix of old and new. How can I get all photos from photo stream onto iPhoto and is iPhoto the best way to store photos on a MacBook Pro?

Your photos stream on iCLoud contains the last 1000 photos or the last 30 days photos - on any device you will see local photos up to 1000 but only 1000 or the last 30 days (which ever is smaller) are available for other devices through iCloud

  • Isn't there an easier way for iPhoto to show (Photoshop) edited RAW photos?

Hi fellow Apple community members, below is a (very) detailed description of my problem>
Once I'm done shooting with my Canon DSLR i auto-import my pics into iPhoto '11.
My pics are shot in RAW format.
I have Photoshop CS6 set as my default image editor via iPhoto.
Once my image is edited via Photoshop i then save the image with two different methods:
i use the "save image..." button in the Camera RAW editing window and proceed to save the image in the same location and the same as the original name in the iPhoto directory.
The second method is to open the image as a non "Smart Object" file then proceed to save the image as a JPEG via "Save As", also in the same the location and file name as the original
The problem is once i've done the saving of the file. iPhoto doesn't show edits done to the original photo or even show a edited copy.
I CAN locate the edited images via the route directory within iPhoto's Finder menus.
So i assumed if i imported those edited copies it would then show in iPhoto but no cigar - A error message pops up: "The following file could not be imported . The file is in the iPhoto Library."
I then re-locate the edit files to another location, then import it into iPhoto and only then does it shows up in iPhoto - successfully edited.
So my question would be...isn't there a better or easier way for iPhoto to show your edited photos without having to jump through so many hoops?

There is no solution to this - and the same problem arises with Aperture too. The question to ask yourself is which Raw processor you want to use and then your Photos go there first.
As Larry says, iPhoto is pretty much pointed at the shooter with a point and shoot or phone who takes snaps to share with family and friends. Pros or serious hobbyits, people shooting large volumes, people shooting Raw migrate to the more powerful apps sooner or later.
Going forward, I would suggest that you explore apps like Lightroom and Aperture which make the Raw processing - and many other - element of Photoshop redundant. While iPhoto uses the same processing engine as Aperture it has less fine control. Photoshop for the photographer is on the way out. It's too expensive, most of its features are aimed at graphic artists rather than shooters. The future for Photographers is apps like Aperture, Lightroom with something like Elements for the odd touchups that these apps can't manage.

  • After upgrading iPhoto only shows tumbrils

I recently upgraded to iphoto '11. At the beginning iphoto crashed or got stuck. After following the instructions in some discussion forums (Rebuilding library, reparing permissions etc.) iphoto loads, but it only shows the tumbnail photos. The regular photos are shown as empty (and so are the books), i.e. iphoto recognizes, that there is a photo, but it just shows a blank frame. I opened the library package, and the regular photos all exist.
    Please help.

  • IPhoto still showing after upgrading to photos

    Hi,
i've upgraded to Photos (Yosemite 10.10.3), however iPhotos is still showing as well as Photos. Is there anyway I can remove this? I've tried to via the 'App Cleaner' program, however iPhoto is shown as locked? It just seems stupid to have it taking up room on my drive when its obsolete!

iPhoto still works and will not interfere with the new Photos.  If you have the space, I would hold on to it for a while till you are completely satisfied with Photos. There are many "issues" that  have been reported.
If you really want to delete it, go to your Applications folder and select the app.
Go to it's 'info' panel by clicking  Cmd-i
When the panel opens, click on the lock in the bottom right hand corner; this will ask for your computer password to unlock the panel.
Click on the plus sign. This will open another window that will allow you to add yourself to the "Name" list in the info panel.
    Select your name.
Go to the info panel and set your "Privilege" to Read & Write
    Click on the Lock.
You should now be able to Cmd-Delete the file.

  • IPhoto only showing most recent version in time machine

When I access time machine with iPhoto open, I get the current iPhoto screen, and then a series of blank screens behind it.  The date bar to the right shows that I should have backups as far as Feb 2012.  If I mouse over to them, they zoom out to show exact dates.  If I click on one of these dates, nothing happens.  I gave it 5 minutes sitting quiety just in case it was having trouble loading all the photos.  No dice.  The photos are in fact on the time machine backup drive, as I can access them manually by going to the specific backup set, finding iPhoto library, show package contents and navigate to the picture I want.  So, it's there... just can't get to it via TM.
    Any ideas on this one?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Move your cursor to the extreme left of the iPhoto Window until it becomes a ‘+’, then click and drag right.

  • Unable to see photos in iphoto only  blank boxes where the photo's should be

can anyone help , usually use the external drive to manage iphoto, for some reason now when i click on iphoto, only blank boxes appear and even when i eject the hard drive and open iphoto it thinks it has found the library with blank boxes . ???

Remember we can't see your machine.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

  • IPhoto/IPhone 3GS- newly synched events only show 1 or 2 photos from only a few events...

My photos were synching fine..until today!  I plug in my phone expecting to have no trouble because I added some new photos from my camera to iPhoto, so I click those events to "synch."  It takes maybe one or two pics from some of the events, and that's it.
I've tried everything - deleting the ipod photo cache, turning phone on and off, taking all photos off and re-synching, restarting itunes and iphoto, reseting my synching...
Also I realize under my albums in my iPhone, there are pics that I never wanted synched, mainly because they are big files- but they are still synching despite the fact those events are not chosen to even be on my phone.
I have 7 gigs of space free on my phone, synching less than half a gig of photos, so I also know space is not the problem.
    any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like a damaged db file.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Also an "automatic" backup happened last nite without my request...
There is no "automatic" back up on the Mac that you did not set up somehow.
Also where does the "backup" go to?
Depends on how you set it up.

  • IPhoto only shows one photo (first one) when making Photo Book?

I clicked the + to add the album, I chose the "Book" option, but it only lets me use the first photo in the album.  The other 60  photos aren't in the view bar above.  How do I get all of the photos to appear so that I can arrange the photo book, or do Autoflow?
Also, what am I missing that I used to be able to see thumbnails and I can only see that in Full Screen now?
    thanks-

Try selectihng all of the photos in the album instead of just clicking on the album and dragging them onto the book icon.  That will add the photos to the book.  You can do the same with any photos in the library: just drag a photo onto the book icon to add the photo to the book.

  • I used my icloud to restore everything on my new iphone 5s, but it only shows some of the photos and when I click on those that are showing it says "Loading".  What happened to my photos?  How can I restore them on my new iphone?

I upgraded from a 4s to a 5s.  I backed up my icloud and in the Apple store they helped me transfer.  I didn't wait in the store for all my information to download and when I got home later that night the apps all downloaded and were good.  I didn't check the photos and videos though.  I think I may have stopped the icloud retoration and maybe that is why not all my photos are on my new iphone.  Now in the camera roll it shows slots for photos, but they are not there.  When I tap on the photo,  it just shows "Loading" and is working, but the photo doesn't appear.  Any assistance would be helpful

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.

    iphoto stuck on 1 photo

Is this a slideshow directly from an album?  If so there's a bug with iPhoto 9.5 and Mavericks in that slideshows from Albums do not play correctly if they are sorted manually.  Only photos that have been sorted by date, keyword, rating or title will play from albums correctly.
To have a slideshow with photos sorted manually use the slideshow mode in iPhoto.
