Iphoto photos missing after upgrade

Hi:
I am helping out a friend who can’t see 95% or so of his photos in iPhoto since upgrading to Yosemite.
I looked in the "Masters" folder (in the iPhoto library) and I think all the photos are there (1000s), but in iPhoto there are only about 100 or so. When I try to do a "Switch To Library" there is only one library. So looks like in the upgrade process it didn't create a new library, but was only able to create pointers to a few of the photos. I’m not sure what to do at this point–I don’t want to manually extract them and reimport them because metadata will be lost.
Surely I can ask iPhoto to scan the Masters again and create pointers to the photo and add in the metadata?
Thanks,

Then try to rebuild the iPhoto Library with iPhoto Library Manager. You can download it here:
http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/   (the free trial version will suffice for this).  It  will create a copy of your library and relink the original files to the edited versions.  Your original library will remain untouched. But rebuilding with iPhoto Library manager will not be able to save projects, like books, calendars, slideshows.
Read the help pages on the iPhoto Library Manager site:
Rebuilding a corrupted iPhoto library
And the full Help:   http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/Help/table%20of%20contents.html
Make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.

  • IPhoto screensaver missing after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I have 3 Macs, all upgraded to Snow Leopard at the same time last year. For some reason one of them no longer has the iPhoto screensaver available from System Preferences. It's also not available as a choice for desktop picture. All 3 computers were upgraded from Leopard, all 3 used an album from iPhoto for screensaver and desktop background, but on one of the computers the iPhoto choice is no longer available in System Preferences for either screen saver or desktop background.
I'm currently using simply a folder of pictures for screen saver, but that means I've duplicated the images as files outside of iPhoto and an album in iPhoto. It's been this way for months, but I want to clean up the disk space and get rid of the external folder of pictures and get back to using the iPhoto album.
Suggestions as to what to do to restore the iPhoto choice in System Prefs? I'm running iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 and SL 10.6.3.
    Thanks

Exactly what's missing? Is there an option to select an iPhoto Album in the SystemPreferences and it can't find the Library? Or simply no option in SystemPreferences?
    Regards

  • IPhoto Photos missing after Repair, Rebuild

Hi folks - I hope you can help.
The problem: my iPhoto loads and shows all my thumbnails perfectly. Click on an album though and their are no images. The library is still full sized and I have tried both a repair, and then rebuild to sort the problem. Bizzarely my Aperture installation still works fine as far as I can tell - the photos are still there.
I am loathed to back-up from a previous point as it takes an age, and would be at the expense of some recent shots that would require a manual save out and re-import. It also wouldn't diagnose the problem which could re-emerge.
The background: I have an enormous 175Gb library which I am trying to thin carefully. iPhoto crashes have plagued me from the start with this 2011 Macbook Pro. I updated the ram to 8Gb on the advice of a 'genuis' to make it work better. It hasn't helped much.
About two months ago I bought aperture in the hope that it would help my editing and thinning process. I have not used it much but I have edited and rated a few events in it.
    I am using:
    iPhoto 9.4.3
    OSX 10.7.5

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photos missing after upgrade

I recently sent back my playbook because it wouldn't charge and I couldn't keep it on long enough to recover my docs and pics. Finally I sent it back and was sent  a new one. Disappointed because I so wanted my pics and such I finally sucked it up and moved on. I installed BlackBerry Desktop Manager because there was no way I was going to lose anymore pictures. It told me I needed to update before it could complete the sync. It absolutely did not tell me I might lose anything!!! I have updated before with no problems. Now my pictures are all gone from my granddaughter first pageant and I see no way of retrieving them right now. I have stopped using the Tablet in case somehow someone figures it out. When I first Got my tablet a year ago, I was estatic. Thought it was great. Now, I will not recommend it to anyone else.

It happened to me when I was on Windows PC. It told me I needed an upgrade when I didn't.  It said I had Version 1.0 when I actually had 2.0. There was no way out of it but to cancel or carry on. Knowing the risks of upgrading any device without backing up first, and knowing that the software was telling lies, I cancelled and moved any photos to my PC by wifi sharing then went back and let it "update" to the same version.  Any unsuspecting and trusting user, neither of which I am, would accept the update and the data is gone. It has been reported on here time and time again.
Too late for you unfortunately. Your photos are gone. No need to wait, they are not rcoverable unless you backed them up. Trouble is you can't do a normal backup until the desktop software has done the non-existent update.
It's a poor piece of software, unlike the mac version which I now use.
I would recommend to any new users to connect by USB and desktop software on day one, and BEFORE doing any valuable work on Playbook. Get the backup process tested and working, THEN use Playbook for valuable photos and backup same day.

  • Can't open my photo library after upgrading to iPhoto 11.  is it possible to load iPhoto 9.0.1 after loading 11?  have followed all other instructions but it still won't let me open iPhoto.

can't open my photo library after upgrading to iphoto 11.  Is it possible to download iphoto 9.0.1 after installing '11.  Have followed all the other instructions and am in a loop which doesn't allow me to access iphoto or my photos.

when iphoto wouldnt open we read the trouble shooting info and it said that we may have needed to download 9.0.1 if we had an older version.  We obviously didn't download it before the upgrade and wondered if it would cause problems or indeed solve the problem if we downloaded it now!
When we try to open iphoto is says:
To open your library with this version of iphoto it first needs to be prepared
To prepare the library use the iphoto library upgrader available from Apple.
We have downloaded this twice now and it still sends us this message when we try to open iphoto.

How do I get iphoto to upgrade photo library after upgrading os from snowleopard to yosemite?

    To add to OT's advice:
You may need to delete your current iPhoto from the Applications folder, if it is a version of iPhoto '11, before the App Store will allow you to download it from the main page.
To locate iPhoto at the AppStore, open the "Featured" tab and enter "iPhoto" into the search field.

problem updating to iphoto 9.6 after upgrading to Yoesmite  I am getting the following message when I try top date iPhoto This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or canc

"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." ?
This error message will appear erraneously, if you skipped the update to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1 and went straight from an earlier MacOS X version to Yosemite, without first updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 and associating iPhoto to your AppleID.
Try first to buy iPhoto with your AppleID instead of updating. Delete iPhoto from Applications, but don't empty the Trash, then go to the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto. If you are lucky, it will show as free and you can buy it directly.
If iPhoto  is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support: Ask for a redemption code. You will need to provide a prove of purchase for your mac with iPhoto preinstalled.

How do I restore all my photos? After upgrading my iPhone, all my photos were gone.

    What photos?
Photos taken with the iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as with any digital camera, most especially before any update or restore.  If you failed to do this, then they are likely gone.  You can try restoring from backup.
Photos synced from your computer should still be on your computer an in you regular backup copy of your computer.

  • IPhoto LIbrary missing after Snow Leopard upgrade MISSING FROM TimeCapsule!

    _+*VERY ANGRY!!_!+*
My iPhoto library is missing from users/pictures after upgrade to 10.6
I figure I am backed up - use time machine/time capsule (ran it just before upgrade to be safe)
When I look at Time Capsule to restore, there are NO iPhoto libraries there anymore! None, over a year of running time machine!
I have used time machine and time capsule to restore my mac in the past, it worked, iPhoto was restored fine.
    How can this be?!

Any word back from Apple (engineers or otherwise) on the missing iPhoto libraries? I updated our MacBook from 10.5 to 10.6 last night and all of our photos from 11/07 on have vanished. This corresponds to the date I purchased the current MacBook and of course, is close to the birth date of my two year old. Obviously, I am also furious that it looks like I've lost all of our photos of our only daugter. I also have a time machine back-up, but the folks at the Apple Store in Oak Brook thus far have been unable to find any indication of any additional photos on my dedicated back-up drive, suggesting that the iPhoto has never been backed up properly (the time machine back up drive has been in use for approx 1.5-years). I am amazed that this type of issue has occurred. Taking the Apple Genius' best guess of the situation, there appear to be at least two serious flaws: the 10.6 upgrade causes of significant loss of data (drive went from approx 7GB free to 52GB free), and (ii) Time Machine has never properly backed up the data in the first instance.
The Apple Genius just called again and wanted to give up, but as a last gasp, I convinced them to restore the whole 10.5 install off the drive, in hopes that 10.5 might recognize the library where 10.6 cannot. Given my understanding that Time Machine was supposed to back-up the whole drive, I have faint hopes this might work.

  • Facebook albums missing after upgrade to iPhoto '11

I installed iPhoto '11 on my wife's iMac. She had probably 30 or more Facebook albums that showed up on the left side of the screen in iPhoto '09. After the upgrade there is just one icon that shows she has an account but none of her previous albums appear below it.
HERE'S THE PROBLEM: Now whenever she tries to upload photos to Facebook a message appears in iPhoto and asks to delete her albums off of Facebook. One message per album that formerly appeared in iPhoto '09. We accidentally deleted a few albums before I realized that it actually removes them from her Facebook page.
I can't find this problem in any other thread. Help! What can we do?

OK, I have had some success with resolving this particular problem.
*Step 1:* I quit out of iPhoto 11 and went to my FaceBook account. Under the Account tab, menu item account settings, you can change your password.
*Step 2:* After changing your FaceBook password, open iPhoto 11. Click on the FaceBook icon. You will get an error message, just cancel out of it.
*Step 3:* Delete every FaceBook album. (This may take a degree of faith ) Its not really deleting them from FaceBook as long as you are not connected to FaceBook from iPhoto.
*Step 4:* Open iPhoto preferences go to accounts and click on your facebook account. Enter your new password. This will reconnect you to Facebook. Your FaceBook photo albums will rebuild and download to your iPhoto program. Life will be cool again
This worked for me. Hopefully for you too.
Additionally if you wanted to try to change your FaceBook password back again I don't see why that wouldn't work as well. The important thing is deleting the current albums displayed in iPhoto without being connected to FaceBook.

  • Photos missing after IOS8 upgrade

After upgrading to IOS8 some of my photos have been removed.
They are not in the new collections location an not in my iCloud account.
Luckily i still have one device on IOS7 where i can see the photo stream and the photos are still there but for some bizarre reason Apple has removed them from all my IOS8 devices.
If any one could help on how i can see these on my IOS 8 device it would be much appreciated.
Apple you have really screwed up on this last release, my faith in IOS is diminishing more and more with unexpected unexplained major changes that are forced on us.

  • IPhoto Library unusable after upgrade to iLife'11

I have recently purchased the iLife'11 Family Upgrade Pack for up to 5 Macs with which my Dad and I have upgraded both of our Snow Leopard capable iMacs.
My iMac was fine when upgraded. Immediately after upgrading I was prompted to use Software Update and then the iMac performed an operation to 'upgrade' my iPhoto Library (or was it the other way around?).
However when I upgraded my Dad's iMac (24", 2.16ghz) the upgrade itself seemed to take ok, but something went awry when the Mac got to the point where it wanted to update the iPhoto Library. During this process it kept reporting that certain files were missing and I was forced to search for them manually. I found these files and the upgrade was eventually completed. I forget now which files they were, however one particular file was repeated a number of times.
Anyway, ever since upgrading the iPhoto Library on my Dad's machine, his iPhoto won't open and he's cussing me flashes.
Any idea what went wrong and how I may fix this?
By the way, I took the usual precautions before upgrading, like running Disk Utility, repairing permissions and so on. I even ran Disk Warrior and got that to fix any potential problems before I did anything.

Downloaded the iPhoto Library Manager that you helpfully provided the link for and asked it to rebuild the library.
This appeared to be going well until we got about 75% of the way when iPhoto Library Manager itself froze. Luckily we were able to identify the Photo that it was working on when it froze so we opened up a copy of iPhoto on our backup drive, found the offending Photo and trashed it before emptying iPhoto's trash.
iPhoto continued to behave a bit sluggishly and other problems were aparent such as the Thumb nails for event not changing as the cursor moved over them. So I trashed iPhoto, re-installed the '09 version, then ran the '11 upgrade again followed by the software update of course.
Toboot iPhoto appears to be working again.
By the way, I found out what those files were I mentioned in my first post. They were .dv file from some movies that I don't think belong where they are anyway. They were made by my digital stills camera so that may have something to do with it.
Thanks for the iPhoto Library Manager tip. It helped a lot.
