Iphoto photos will not display in iworks

I have a new Macbook Pro with ILife with Imovie 8 and Iphoto 8. Some photos that I just scanned and imported to iphoto after using an Epson Photo Perfection scanner, will not display in imovie. They were saved in jpeg format and appear fine in my iphoto files. I have even made changes to them in iphoto and saved them to see if that helped, but they still won't display in imovie. The only problem similar to this that I could find in the discussions is when the photos are saved in RAW format. These are not. Any ideas?

Try dropping one of the files directly from the Finder to the iMovie '08 "Project" window. If the files is accepted, then you know the compression format is good and can check things like file, event, or album names that may prevent the photos from being displayed via the iMovie '08 browser. If the file is not compatible, then iMovie will not import it and you can try "re-compressing" the files in an image application to see if they will then be recognized.

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Photos will not display properly in pdf

I'm on Windows XP, just bought Adobe Presenter recently, so I should be all up to date.
In PowerPoint, everything works fine when I play a slideshow - my animations show up, all my photos are there, everything's peachy.
When I publish a pdf using Adobe Presenter, suddenly my photos do not show up in the slides. However, if I go to Thumb view on the sidebar in the pdf, I can see the photos on the thumbnail slides. So why are they not showing up in the actual slides in the pdf? All the text, etc. shows up, although our logo at the bottom of the page also fails to show up in the pdf slides, although I can see it in the thumbnail slides in the pdf.
I should mention that I'm viewing the pdf using Adobe Reader 10.0.
I'm hoping there is a quick fix for this, but I haven't found it by searching the forums.
Secondarily, my transitional animations don't play in the pdf. I'm not as concerned about this, but I don't understand why it's happening and would like to figure out how to change it eventually.
Thank you for any help you can give! I'm supposed to get a first draft to client by tonight, so the sooner the better. Thanks so much!

Okay, so I re-read your original post and believe I misunderstood your problem.

    1. Do you mean that the photos tied to your animations/transitions aren't showing up?
    2. Are other photos on static (non-animated) slides showing up?

  • Photo will not display

Everytime I double click on my photo either on the Events or Photos library it becomes a supersized exclamation point. Please help.

That indicated that you have a referenced library (you have unchecked the advanced iPhoto option to "copy imported items tot he iPhoto library") which is not recommended for many reasons - as you see it makes importing photos more difficult - also deleting and makes upgrading/replacing/repairing hardware much more difficult
With a referenced library the original photos must always be available exactly where they were imported from

  • Apple TV 2nd Generation Photos Will Not Display

I have ATV2, iMac running 10.5.8, iTunes 10.2.1 and iPhoto 6.0.6. Home sharing is turned on and on my iMac in iTunes Advanced menu > Choose photos to share... > I've selected Share Photos From: iPhoto and All photos and albums.
The computer is visible on the ATV2, I am able to play music from the iTunes library, TV shows from the iTunes library and also use airplay from the iMac to play content on the ATV2.
However, when I select the computer on ATV2 > Photos > I get the prompt telling me to choose photos to share from the iTunes advanced menu.
Called apple care and they were no help. Talked to a "senior advisor" and he wasn't even familiar with the ATV2. They had me update software, restart computers, and check the settings in iTunes > advanced. He is sending me iPhoto 9 in the mail to see if that resolves the issue. As I understand it, iPhoto 6 should be compatible though.
Have a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6 with a separate iTunes account and everything is streaming to the ATV2 just fine.
    Help.

    This worked for me ...
Go ahead and start the playlist on AT2.  Then, while that is playing, use the AT2 remote to MENU back to the menu that shows :  MUSIC, MOVIES, TV SHOWS, PODCASTS, iTUNES U and PHOTOS.  Scroll down to PHOTOS and select it.  I was not able to get EVENTS and PHOTOS to work (it stopped playing the music if I selected these and then slideshow), but if I went down to an ALBUM, I could get it to work.  Arrow down to the ALBUM you want to show and select it (all this time, the music should continue to play).  When the album opens, choose the SLIDESHOW option and it works (or it did for me).  I was able to listen to my iTunes playlist and while also showing the photos I wanted.

  • After rebuild of iphoto- photos will not sync (iphone + ipad)

While syncing the iphone (5s),  iphoto (v9.4.3) opened and a pop-up prompted me that I needed to rebuild my library. Clicked to do so, and after the rebuild finished, I went to sync in itunes and noticed my photo settings had changed.  The "Selected albums, Events,..." is grayed out.  I unselected "Sync Photos from iphoto" synced to erase what had been selected from the iphone.  With "sync photos" unchecked it syncs normally.  When checked (the only option: All photos,..) I get an error code "The iPhone "--" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140)."  Tryed syncing my iPad (3 gen) with the same result.
I have both my iphoto and itunes libary on an external HD through my older iMac (running OSX 10.7.5).  Have tried: rebooting everything/ running a Disk Utilities repair disk permissions/ an iphoto permissions repair/ deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder/ Opening the AlbumData.xml seeking out all "&" and changing them (via another thread)... all without any success. I am able to access pictures through other applications (imovie/ pages) and iphoto still recognizes and asked to import photos with iphone/ipad connected.  I have an time machine back up, but haven't restored anything from that.  Any ideas how to regain the option to select albums, events, etc... would be very appreciated.

    Hello Jezky123,
It sounds like you are unable to sync photos now from from iPhoto through iTunes to an iOS device. You did some great troubleshooting already. Next I would try deleting the iPod photo cache and then try again:
iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
    iPhoto or Aperture
If you're syncing from an iPhoto or Aperture library, use these steps to find the iPod Photo Cache folder in the default iPhoto Library or Aperture Library location:
From the Finder, choose Go > Home. If you moved your iPhoto Library or Aperture Library to a different location, go to that location instead.
Open the Pictures folder and locate the iPhoto Library file. (For Aperture, this is called Aperture Library.)
Control-click iPhoto Library or Aperture Library and choose Show Package Contents.
In the next window, drag the iPod Photo Cache folder to the Trash.
Important: Don't remove or modify any other file within the library package. Removing or modifying other files may cause data loss.
    Close the Finder window.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • My Mac Air iphoto will display thumbnails but will not display photos in any way - single photo / slideshow etc - any ideas

My Mac Air iphoto will display thumbnails but will not display photos in any way - single photo / slideshow etc - any ideas?

    Are you seeing this
when you double click on a thumbnail file?  If so it's an indication that the file path/link between the thrumbnail and original, full sized file has been broken.  Therefore, and assuming you're running iPhoto 9 or later, try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Photos show up as thumbnail but when I click on them they will not display

Photos show up as thumnails but when I click on them they will not display. I get a exclamation mark in a dotted line box

    Hylan:
That occurs when the library has lost the link to the original file. This is a result of a damaged library database file, Library6.iPhoto. You can try rebuilding the library from within iPhoto to see if you can recover the photos by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. However, it's iffy.
You can rebuild the library with iPhoto Library Manager as it create a new library, leaving the original one intact, by reading the AlbumData.xml file and copying what it needs. You will be able to recover the photos, albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, slideshows, and calendars will not be recovered. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
It that doesn't work you'll have to start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from the old library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Hey IPhoto will not display my photos aand will not let me rebuild them from any existing library or back up file?

  • ICamera photos are not displayed in iPhoto

    HI!
I have a big problem: Whan I make photos with the included camera in my iPad,
these photos are not displayed in the iPhoto app supplied with my iPad. I can't find
    them.
    I'm using IOS 5.0.1.
    Any help? PLEASE!!!

After you snap the photo with the iPad, and that picture shrinks down to the corner, you should ba able to tap that little picture - and it should open in the Camera Roll in the Photos app.
I'm not sure what to suggest other than the basic, first try, troubleshooting steps.
Quit the camera app and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Suddenly, one of my iPhoto Libraries will not open, or rather iPhoto opens, but says there are no photos in the file.  However, when I backed it up and looked into it otherwise, the images 86gigs are still there in the file. What to do??

Suddenly, one of my iPhone libraries will not open with 86 gigs of images: it opens and says there are no photos, yet by other looking, all the images are there and when backing up, it takes an hour.
Somehow iPhoto application will not recognize the images (over 13,000) in the file.
Any suggestions as to how to fix the matter<
    Dr. Harris, Bermuda

To move from iPhoto 08 (which is v7) to iPhoto 11 (which is v9) requires that you purchase iPhoto 11. Your software update is running just fine. V7.1.5 is last version of iPhoto 08.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
    As to the problematic library:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2

  • IPod 5G Will Not Display iTunes Videos (Must Restart), All Photos Distorted

I own a 30GB iPod 5G which has never worked satisfactorily after I purchased the unit last year. In fact, after several trips last year to the Genius Bar at the Apple 5th Avenue store in New York, Apple replaced my unit with a new (or refurbished) model and the problems diminished somewhat. Within the last week I noticed however that my iPod will not display photos without severe distortion and will not display videos downloaded from iTunes at all (the unit requires a restart if I attempt to play these videos). I had taken the unit to an Apple mini-store at a local (Iselin, NJ) BestBuy and, after he entered the serial number into the support form, was told by an Apple badge employee that my warranty for the unit did not expire until Sept. 28 (which was the date I received the replacement iPod). When I took my unit to the 5th Avenue Apple store, I was informed by a Genius Bar employee (Jay) that my warranty expired on July 6 and Apple would not perform warranty service nor could I purchase the extended warranty. He further informed me that Apple badge employees at Best Buy and CompUSA are not “really” Apple employees.
He wouldn’t call a manager after I requested to speak to one. The only recourse he could offer me was to call the AppleCare 1-800 number, which I immediately did while still in the store. The person at AppleCare (after asking for the serial number) informed me that my warranty didn’t expire until Sept. 28 and if I wanted to I could purchase the extended warranty anytime until that date. I chose not to give my credit card information while standing in the midst of hundreds of customers, but I called the following day (July 14) and was told by the attendant who took my call that my warranty had expired on July 6 and there was nothing he could do to help me.
Evidently, although I have purchased 11 iPods over the course of the last year as gifts for family members (plus 4 speaker-docks plus more iTunes gift certificates than I can count), I do not count as a valued Apple customer. Could someone at Apple please prove me wrong?
