IPhoto photostream question

I am using iPhoto.  I navigate to "Web" then "Photo Stream".
Double click on 'My Photos'.
At top top in the middle it shows "17 Nov 2013 - 25 Dec".
Where are my photos from earlier this year?  How to I get them back to the Photostream?  I am unsure how this "date range" appeared as I am sure it was not there before... please can you clarify things for me?
Thanking you for helping, in advance.

Probably not - did you go through the links I supplied inlcuding the FAQs and trouble shooting hints?
Again
If you have photos in PS that you want on your Mac you have to import them while they are there
To have them permanent you must import them to the iPhoto library - you can set that to be done automatically in the iPhoto preferences

  • PhotoStream Question

Ok, this is driving me crazy. I have PhotoStream enabled on my iPhone and MacBook Air, all PhotoStream pictures show fine on my iPhone (63 pictures) but only 42 show in iPhotos (Photo Stream) on my MBA, why is that?
    Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry. I read your reply and realized I had made a mistake in my original question. The photos I want to move are in an album in iPhoto and I can't get them to move into Photostream, where I could then transfer them to my iPhone. I checked my iPhoto preferences and they seem to be correct. Any suggestions?

  • Iphoto photostream not importing correctly

i use photostream from 2 iphones and an ipad, then manually import from my CF card using a canon EOs DSLR.  the manual imports are fine and all devices show the consolidated group of iphoto pics.  However when in iphoto i highlight a particular event of all the consolidated photos and drag them over to events.  I grabbed 123 photos but only 25 of them appear in the new event, am i missing something?  If i try it again it says i am duplicating the import, however i canty find where the photos have gone.
I have been using this workflow for 2 years and only in the last 4 weeks or so has it not been importing all the photostream images, i may revert back to manual imports from the phone unless anybody can help?

However when in iphoto i highlight a particular event of all the consolidated photos and drag them over to events.
I don't understand this. How can you drag an Event to Events. Isn't it already there?

  • Iphoto slideshow questions

I am running iphoto 9.5.1 with OSX 10.9.3 I am making a slideshow that I will eventually export to an external HD. When I make a title for the first picture it does not save for some reason...I have to constantly redue it. Why?
I don't see an option to save the slideshow and it seems to be auto-saving which is great, but that first picture's title won't save.
Last question...when I have completed the slideshow can I just drag and drop it into my external HD?
    thanks

, but it only works on my computer!
Where do you want to play it?  If you want to create a video DVD that will play on TV sets with DVD players you need to use a video DVD authoring applicaiton like iDVD. Here's how:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The following is important only if you don't already have iDVD on your Mac:
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • IPhoto '11 Questions / Issues

I upgraded to iPhoto '11 as soon as it became available. As I have been working with it and trying to update all of my old photos with titles, descriptions, locations, etc, I have found a few things that either are bugs with iPhoto, or I just haven't figured out how to do them yet.
First, when setting a location on a photo, the only way I have found to do it is to go into the info screen, then use the small map in the corner to place the marker. Is there a way to get a full-sized map when locating photos?
Second, I have been having some issues with Faces. When I am looking in the info screen for a picture, some pictures show that I have xx number of unnamed faces, where xx could be any number. However, when I look at the picture, I can't find any spot in the photo where there is the box around a section of the photo with the "unnamed" label below it. Why is it showing that I have unnamed faces if there are no markers on the photo?
Also with Faces, I have tried using the feature where I can look at and name 5 pictures at a time. I have 2 questions with regards to this feature. First, is it possible, especially while in full-screen mode to look at more than 5 faces at a time, and second, why does it keep having me rename the same photos over and over again that are all from the same photo?
And finally, another Faces issue, after I mark some Faces through the feature where I name multiple faces at once, I have looked at some photos and it shows a person's name, but it will have the box around a completely different person? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Regarding the locations see my post HERE.
Can't help you with faces as I don't use that feature.

  • IPhoto file questions

Hello! I am new to Macs. Having recently switched from a PC to a Mac, I am a little confused by the file management.
Every time I import photos using iPhoto, where are the files saved?
If I want to copy, email, or open photos using any non-Apple software (say, my email in Safari), how do I find the uploaded photos?
I apologize if these questions have been asked before, and I thank you for your reply.

. To access them, control-click it in the Finder and choose Show Package Contents. Don't change anything inside.
This is not a supported way to access the files.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Aperture vs iPhoto library questions

Hello, I am brand new to Aperture from iPhoto.  I am moving to Aperture to take advantage of the organization options because I am starting to run out of HD space with my 100 GB iPhoto library.  I want to have the option in the near future to switch to referenced masters on an external drive.  So my question has to do with the unified library between iPhoto and Aperture.  When I upgraded to Aperture, I had to first update iPhoto to the new library format.  I then opened my iPhoto library in Aperture.  Everything I've read about the unified format has explained that it is compatible with both applications.  But I've also read that iPhoto does not work with referenced masters.  So, can I use Aperture to convert my iPhoto library to Referenced masters?  Or do I need to transfer my photos into a native Aperture library first?  And then once I switch to referenced masters, will iPhoto still work with my new library?
    Thank you,
    Ray

But I've also read that iPhoto does not work with referenced masters.
And then once I switch to referenced masters, will iPhoto still work with my new library?
    Ray,
iPhoto can use referenced original master image file, it works well in iPhoto '11. Only, iPhoto has no built-in tools to repair broken references, if referenced files get accidentally moved or changed, so it is not recommended to do this in iPhoto. But since you now want to use Aperture, that will not be a problem. You will be able to repair broken references using Aperture. iPhoto will work well with a referenced Aperture library. I am using it all the time.
So, can I use Aperture to convert my iPhoto library to Referenced masters?  Or do I need to transfer my photos into a native Aperture library first?
    Yes, that is simple.
Upgrade your iPhoto Library by opening it in the latest iPhoto version, and then use the command "File > Open Library in Aperture".  Now Aperture will work with your iPhoto library as an Aperture library. Events will show as Projects in Aperture, albums will still be albums. All keywords and ratings, Faces and Places  will transfer.
To switch to referenced masters/originals select the images you want to relocate and use the command "File > Relocate originals".
You may want to read this page of the manual:
Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Referenced Images
But make a full backup of your libraries before you start to reorganize them and relocate files.

  • Photostream question (Mavericks, ML, MBP, Mac Pro and iPhone)

    hi all,
i am posting the dialogs from Aperture enabling various aspects of Photostream/iCloud (mac pro and ML at the top and MBP and Mavericks at the bottom) and i am having a devil of a time figuring out how to manage all of this. i take a /ton/ of pictures on my iPhone and i seem to have a multiplicity of issues i can't solve by googling. i have read what i can find in the help and faq sections.
i should also say that while i SYNC my phone via iTunes on my MBP i /import/ photos into Aperture on my desktop machine which is a Mac Pro. i keep a small library in Aperture on the MBP and do check some of the folders to sync to the iPhone. i find this easiest since i am have a big Aperture database that i keep on the large HD on the Mac Pro but for customizing Apps, synced images, music etc i find it easier to manage on the laptop.
anyway, i have the following problems/questions:
    1. do i need to SYNC my iphone to my Mac Pro with some frequency and physically import photos into Aperture in order to not LOSE the photos off the phone after some period of time? i mean, i /don't/ do this with an discipline and i have been assuming that they all remain there in a "monthly dated photostream" folder /until/ i do a physical import from the phone but something i read recently caused me to think that there is a 1000 image limit and that anything NOT IMPORTED by a certain timeframe means photos will basically get bumped off the phone never to be seen again if they are not physically imported.
    2. can i leave images in a monthly dated photostream folder (on both the laptop and desktop machines) and basically never touch them - assuming that i am also IMPORTING these images into projects into Aperture?
    3. i have an "iPhone Sync" folder in Aperture and i have selected this folder to sync via iTunes with my iPhone. however, when this folder gets to the iPhone the images in here always seem to be mixed up with other images that i took ON THE PHONE. so if i have images on the laptop that i dropped into a folder and synced /to/ the phone - is there a way to keep these separate from what i am seeing on the phone in terms of photos i took on the phone? when they get mixed together it is so confusing i can't figure out what is happening and i can't find anything. i would like to keep the synced images independent of the images shot on the phone.
    4. is there a Idiots Guide to Photostream on the iPhone that someone can give me?
    A. i am seeing a "Photos" icon and when i hit this it seems to show me a YEARLY list and then in the yearly list there are DATED groups. my most recent dated group shows /locations/ as well and i am not sure if this is an option or what. ALSO, why are images that i synced in a folder on my is there a way to delete these images? is it possible images that were synced from my laptop are showing up in here and if so is there a way to prevent this?
    B. Albums are showing "Camera Roll" "My Photo Stream" as well as "Events (from my mac)". Event (from my mac) is supposed to show Images in Projects that were SYNCED from my laptop and Camera Roll (390 images) is supposed to show images taken on my iPhone since the last import if i deleted everything on the last import? Does My Photo Stream (1000 images) somehow show all the images in Camera Roll (taken on the iPhone) AND somehow /some/ of the images synced from my laptop in some way? i mean, this is what i think i am seeing but it is uber confusing.
THANKS for any help on this,
    jonathan

  • A few basic iPhoto 11 questions

I just updated my iMac from Tiger (I know...) to Mavericks and it's great, but there's a few things in iPhoto that are way different from my old version- wondering if I can re-apply these.
    1) I used to be able to label photos by hovering over the photo and a dialogue box would appear, then once I titled it the title would stay under the photo. I can title photos now by going to info and titling it but when I'm in album view I can't see the titles whereas I used to.  I looked in preferences and everything but can't change it, is there a way to do this?
    2) This one is basic and stupid- in my old version just 1 click would enlarge the photo from album view vs highlighting it and needing to double click to enlarge.  Any way to revert this back to the old way?
I know these are really stupid questions but it's just conveniences I got used to that would be nice to have back.

    1. View Menu -> Select 'Titles'
    2. Tap the Space Bar.

  • 2 iCloud iPhone accounts to 1 iPhoto photostream library not possible?

I feel I'm not getting the full iCloud photostreaming experience i should be. My spouse and I have our iphone 5's. We have a shared iTunes account which is perfect for us (we have the same calendar and contacts and events, music etc).
But, we each have our own iCloud account so that the "find my iphone" feature works properly and points to each of our separate iphones.
But when we turn on PHOTOSTREAM on each of our iphones (or iClouds accounts if you will) how do i get each of our Photostreams to download by wifi, automatically, onto our iMac's iPhoto?
We LOVE iPhoto on our iMac. We download all our DSLR pics to it, make albums & slide shows etc... BUT>>> it seems that I can only turn on 1 iCloud account on my iMac and that means only 1 of us gets thier iPhone pics to photostream onto iPhoto so we can show them and enjoy them from iPhoto.
I know that we can always connect our iphones and 'sync' in iTunes and move our photos over manually, but I'm hoping we both can Photostream from our respective iClouds and view-play-edit our photos together in iPhoto. We have NO interest in sharing each others photostream (a feature in iCloud) and viewing each others pics on our iphones, we really want to view them on our iMac (and stream slide shows to our tv via AppleTV) so I don't see how photostream sharing is a solution. What am I missing?

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look anyway and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer

  • Iphoto photostream not registering im logged into icloud?

I have the newest version of iphoto, i have an icloud account, but when i try to use the photostream it keeps telling me i need to sign into icloud.... i sign in and nothing changes, am i missing a step somewhere or is there a way to link it?

Try logging out of iCloud in the System preferences and then log back in.  Go to iPhoto and and do the same for Photo Stream.

  • IPhoto PhotoStream not updating since new iMac purchase

I purchased a new iMac and transferred old iMac info.  PhotoStream has not updated in iPhoto since the transition.  Works on iPhones/iPads, but not iPhoto.  Tried turning PhotoStream off/on in both iPhoto and Settings.  Did not work. Any help?
    Cheers,

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • From PSE (PC) to iPhoto - several questions

I've looked for answers for these questions, which are kind of interconnected, but not found what I'm after. Have also tried a few things with smaller folders of pictures. Hope someone can help.
    _Copy items into library?_
I want to use iPhoto organise and import photos, but use PS Elements 8 to edit them (and have set this up as an external editor from iPhoto). Given this, is my best bet to copy photos into the library, rather than use a referenced library (if I've got the terminology right)?
_Folders of pictures - do I still need them?_
When previously importing photos from a camera to PSE6 (PC), I stored each 'event' in a different folder. These folders were transferred to my Mac and put in the 'Pictures' folder in the Finder. When I import them into iPhoto, it looks like the 'iPhoto library' file has made copies of the photos and arranged them in its own event-based folder structure, in the 'Originals' folder (I've checked the 'Copy Items Into iPhoto Library' option mentioned above). Given that this has happened, do I still need to keep the folders for any reason other than as back-up? I get the impression that when I next import new photos, they'll go straight into that iPhoto library, rather than sitting in a file folder next to it - is this right? Is absolutely everything I need in that iPhoto library file?
_If I want to leave iPhoto..._
As above, my photo collection is currently arranged in folders. If I switch to iPhoto, won't each of my albums/events be split across 'Originals' and 'Modified'? Won't this make it very difficult to re-create a tidy photo collection in a different piece of software at some point in the future? Is this a decent enough reason to not use iPhoto?
    _And lastly, Adobe Bridge_
Which came with PSE8. Is there much use for this if I'm using iPhoto+PSE8? Just checking I'm not missing a trick.
    Thanks in advance!

The following may be of interest to you:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • IPhoto / Facebook question ?

    Hi,
I've had some problems with my iPhoto library over the past week and at one point i feared I would lose the whole library. I've changed a few things and it seems to be ok. Another thing I would like to change is the Facebook sync. Its very annoying because it just decides to sync random pictures every now and then and on one occasion is synced all of my facebook albums to my Events so I had a whole bunch of new events all with one picture each in it. My question is, can I go into iPhoto settings and delete my facebook account ussing the little minus button or would that delete all of my photos from Facebook that I have uploaded or once they are uploaded to facebook, are they stored on the facebook servers as well as my laptop?
If its not ok to delete it, how can I choose when iPhoto chooses to sync with Facebook as i'm hacing trouble finding that setting.
I am currently using version 9.4.2.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Deleting the account in the Preferences won't make any changes on FaceBook.

  • Another iPhoto import question

Hi all. I'm new to the iMac and all of the applications. I've been reading up adn getting familiar with my iMac and I'm loving it. I plan on using iPhoto and had a question about importing my photos.
On my PC, I would use a card reader to copy the pics to a folder that would basically be my negatives. Then I would organize them into folders based on the year and then the date I took them. For example, I had a folder in My Documents called Canon/2007/20071031 Halloween. I would eventually take the "negatives" and save them to a DVD for archiving once I had enough to fill a DVD. Ok, to be honest, I'm behind on the DVD burning process.
I watched lots of the iLife tutorial on iPhoto and I like how they manage the photos. Seems like it will make my life easier. Since I'm used to using a card reader, I would still like to do it that way instead of connecting my camera (unless I get talked out of it). My printer has a built in card reader that I planned on using. Is it possible to import them that way? I haven't been able to find anything on importing with a card reader. Also, what's the best way to archive off my "negatives" just in case. I don't want to lose any of my pics.
    Thanks

    Rinker:
You can import from a card reader into iPhoto. It will act just like a camera being connected if you want it to. You use Image Capture's preferences to set what application to open, if any, when a camera is connected.
FWIW, I use a card reader to upload from the memory card to a folder on the desktop. I name the folder with the date and brief description of the shoot. (I always reformat the card with the camera after each upload and upload after each shoot). When that folder is imported into iPhoto the Event gets named with the title of the folder. That saves me having to rename the event later on. Also, if desired, I can rename the files in that folder with R-Name so that each image file's name is unique and not the default name given by the camera. I use the capture date in the international format, YYYY-MM-DD-halloween-001.jpg, etc. This allows for excellent search and sort capability both within and outside of iPhoto.
Then after importing into iPhoto I copy that folder to my external HD that stores the source files, i.e. digital negatives and delete it from the desktop. Hope this has been of some help to you. This way I have two copies of the original file, one on the external and the other in iPhoto. iPhoto does not touch the original when it does its editing. It makes a modified version of it for that purpose.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
