Iphoto picture quality suddenly very poor

Hi, I have recently solved a problem with your help in relation to Iphoto running very slow.
I now have another problem. Whilst I was installing the Leopard OS and the TC, I had a problem with the installation (now resoleved) but one of the apple techs (amongst other things) talked me through rebooting in safe mode. After I rebooted, the image quality of my photos seem to very poor when I enlarge them and are very poor when I run a slideshow. Also the photo I use for my wallpaper is also very poor - the pixilation seems to be not quite right.
Does anyone know how or why this has happened or can offer any help in resolving the problem?
Thank you very much,
Eileen

I too have poor image quality since i had a loss of power at the house while using Iphoto. All of my photos were gone from iphoto after reboot. I imported them from the back up file to recover them but since then the quality is terrible.

  • Idvd / imovie movie quality is very poor on my hd tv

I have a sony cx700 hd camera, which will shoot in 1080p, but in order to import into imovie 11 I had to change it to 720p on the camera.  I just finished my movie, added transitions, music and stills, burned it with idvd and the quality when played on my hd tv is terrible.  Is there any way to import 1080p into imovie 11, would that solve my problem of poor quality on my tv?  I am doing my video editing on a mac book pro that was upgraded to lion.
    Thanks,
    Tricia

    Hi
Yes there are several layers to this question.
    • HD TV and Your Mac Screen has very high resolution
    • iDVD (and other DVD Authoring programs) can only do DVD Standard -
and it is interlaced SD-Video in PAL (25fps) or NTSC (29.97fps)
    • Using a Video editor that can not deliver this but just 50% (every second line in the picture) will not help at all
and they are iMovie'08 or 09 or 11. I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut as they deliver 100%
    • Using "Share to iDVD" in any version of iMovie has a BAD effect on my movies so I do instead
    a. iMovie'08 to 11 - Share to Media Browser - and as LARGE - not HD or other resolutions as this too makes result suffer. In iDVD I import these movies from Media button/Movies down to the right.
    b. Movie HD6 - Just close it and drop the Movie icon into iDVD
Now iMovie can not render - and iDVD does this so much better.
In iDVD - Save as a DiskImage and test this first to see if result got any better.
If You need HD - then Roxio Toast™ including BD-component can be a way but You need a Blu-Ray Player to be able to view.
+ BD on standard DVDs (max 20-30 minutes) - Still un-playable on standard DVD-players
+ Blu-Ray Disk and BD-Burner (also extra cost)
I play back my BD-DVDs on a PlayStation 3 - They look as good as it can be.
    Yours Bengt W

  • My Palm Pixi's 2MP picture quality is very disappointing

Love the video image and sound quality, but is very disappointed by the quality and sharpness of the photos that I've taken.  Dispite the fact that the pictures run at 1600X1200 resolution, they simply feel like they were take at a much lower resolution and then enlarged to a higher res.  I have used high resolution cameras in my line of work and I am NOT comparing them to a camera phone, but I have to say I expected a little better out of a 2MP phone camera.

  • I want to make a copy of slide show create from my own photographs and with a an audio track behind them. I have carefully followed the iDVD tutorials and burnt the result to a disc but image quality is very poor. What is wrong?

I want to make a DVD of a slide-show with an audio track behind the photographs. I have carefully followed the iDVD video tutorials but the result is far from satisfactory. The quality of the images on the resulting DVD are blurred and indistict although the original photographs are of a very high quality. Where am I going wrong? Would I have better results from a different program than the inbuilt iDVD and if so so what programs have others found to be better? I should be grateful for some expert guidance.

    Hey Falcopebo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Looks like you have image quality issues when using iDVD to burn.
iDVD 7.0: Burned DVD has interlacing, pixelation, or image quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4078
A standard DVD made by iDVD is made to the standard DVD resolution of 720 X 480, which is smaller than most HDTVs and monitors. When expanded to fit the entire screen or monitor, the image will distort slightly due to upscaling to fit the screen or monitor.
    Have a nice day,

  • WIFI suddenly very poor on my MBPro

I used to be quite content with the WIFI reception on my MBpro but lately it has become quite poor.
In work I used to get full or nearly full bars, just like the other MBpro (same model as mine) and Macbook that share the room. Lately I can only manage 1 bar at best and experience constant drop outs. The other two macs have experienced no loss of signal. There are no other computers using the network either.
I've also noticed at home that my Girlfriends Macbook has a far greater range than my more modern MBpro, and her macbook doesn't appear to be affected by things such as a door closing or a microwave working while mine loses all signal.
This is quite frustrating as the problem only started in the last couple of months. Could it be a software issue?

I play music on my hi fi via an airport express attached to my iMac.
Since installing maverick the sound quality is terrible and I get frequent distortion, which never happened before.
I have reset the airport express and reconfigure my wireless settings. I have also used Ethernet on its own but still get the same sound problems.
I would love to turn itunes sound off as you used to be able to do, but this I believe can't be done.
Has anyone else been having the same types of problem, and better still has anyone got the answer?

Yes but be sure to turn on Airplay at whatever Airport connects to the audio.

That's a whole different ball game and a much better solution if it's practical to implement.  The data rate will not decrease.

No, there is no legitimate way to downgrade iOS to an earlier version.
Be patient, Apple will eventually get around to fixing the "bugs" in iOS 6.

  • Battery life on MBP 13 suddenly very poor

I've had my MBP for about year now. When I put it to sleep, I have been in the habit of turning off AirPort to conserve power. Even with it turned off, the MBP will only have power for about 3-4 days in the sleep mode. Something is draining it big-time when the lid is closed & it is sleeping. Is there a way to tell what is draining the power?

When was the last time you calibrated your battery per your user manual instructions?

  • Improving Ibook to TV picture quality?

    Hi.
I have tried hooking my ibook G4 with my TV (32" CRT) as an external display using the video adapter and a composite video cable.
Its really only good for viewing pics and video. Web pages and print are unreadable. Is there any way of improving the quality? Is it because of the lack of digital connection or the non-LCD/plasma TV I am using?
    Thanks!
    - John

If anybody is still following this thread I still haven't quite given up yet! I thought I would just try dragging ten photos out of iPhoto on to the desktop. I then inserted a CD and dragged the ten photo icons directly into the CD icon. Lo and behold when I played this CD, via my DVD player, to my standard definition widescreen TV the picture quality is excellent. It at least has proved to me that it is possible to get good quality TV results from a DVD. The big drawback is that each image takes 3-4secs to scroll down the TV screen which is not acceptable. I presume this is because the method I used has loaded the original full resolution image to the DVD. I thought I would then try 'exporting' the same 10 images to the desktop using the JPEG/MEDIUM/MEDIUM settings and dragging the photo icons to the CD icon exactly as before. When displayed on the TV the picture quality is very poor but of course composes much quicker.
My tiny compact camera can display these original images on TV perfectly adequately and composes the next photo instantaneously. Amazing! I now conclude (probably completely incorrectly) that to obtain a good quality image via DVD to TV the original full resolution image must be used even though the TV itself doesn't need this. Presumably the image data is corrupted if the iMac is used to reduce the resolution. Is there no simple answer to displaying good quality pictures on a TV screen?

  • Export to HQ DVD very poor quality

    Hi all,
I've been trying to export to an HQ DVD, meaning I've chosen the highest settings, ending up with a 5552Mb File for 75 mn... which I believe would be enough to have a very high "normal"definition .
ok I know it wouldn't fit but I burned 10mn of timeline with these settings, to check, and the quality is very poor. I believe as bad as a VHS second generation copy... My titles appear like a very low photoshop jpg compression, and all lignes and shapes are surrounded by some kind of compression artefacts not acceptable even in normal def. (not mentioning the interlaced lines at the edit point when the clip has been altered in size or color etc...) You get the picture...
I had a look at the calculator, that is not much help finally when exporting from premiere.
What I want to do is export my (xdcam hd 50mbps 1080 50i).mxf timeline to a beatiful dvd that everybody can play....
Should I go for a third party encoder?
Also, It seems that when I export and burn through Encore, I get a slightly vertically stretched frame, that ellipses the perfect circles I have on the timeline. Although I respect the pixel ratio of 1.0, 16.9 screen... wide screen etc... I always get this stretching. (Playing the file from the pc is correct.)
What puzzles me is to see some nice SD DVDs around, burnt from HD files and I'm not able to get at least the same results from a broadcast approved camcorder and premiere CS6.
    Export settings are:
    Help please... Thanks.

    Glad to help.
I have been using Encore every since it was first released and on many occasions I have pruduced MPG files encoded at different rates so that I can demonstrate to the audience at my presentations how the different settings can affect the end MPG movie
With Encore I have found that the settings I gave you earlier give the best compromise results, in my tests having the max setting at its max position and the target above eight can produce flawed mpeg files. this is not as a resullt of one off encoding but I have repeated it with each version of Encore with varying results, certainly using Encore in my CS5.5 Suite produces softer DVD's than earlier versions, in my opinion that is..
With HD source my Panasonic HMC 150 Encore produces reasonable MPG SD files but the Canon 7 D produces more artifacts.
Enough of a remeniss and ramble, good luck
Addiitonally with the completed DVD there is a distinct difference depending upon which DVD player is used, using the same DVD my Sony 3D bluray player upscales better than my Panasonic Bluray recorder, whereas at a club I go to the Pioneer AV amp upscales the DVD even better, therefore I would conclude that the device playing back the DVD can have a vast effect on what you see.

  • Quality of DVD is very poor; help

    Hi,
I'm new to Premiere Elements.  I have an HD Panasonic Camcorder.  I created several AVCHD videos and they look great.  I was told by a family member they do not have a blu-ray player, so I created one using the DVD format.  WOW, what a difference.  The video quality was very poor...I couldn't read the numbers on the soccer players.  I then tried the Panasonic software that came with the camera and it looks great....but, not as good as AVCHD.  I even tried something called DVDVideoSoft and it looks great.  I really would like to stick with Elements when having to burn a DVD.  Where do I start to figure out why my DVD quality is so poor?  The lines on the soccer field look like double lines.  I'm assuming I must have a setting not set correctly.  Suggestions?
    Thanks, Tom

    Tom
I have been following your thread from a distance, but your latest post lead me to add some comments...
I am not clear why you feel that you need the HD Writer for getting your video from the camera to the computer.
And, if you decide to go that route, your focus should be the .m2ts for the video file which is imported into Premiere Elements 11 Windows.
    http://www.avforums.com/forums/camcorders-video-editing/1265583-panasonics-hd-writer-ae-so ftware-its-extra-files-they-necessary.html
The link above addresses those "extra files" that the HD Writer generates in doing its operation.
If your 1080p30 is what you are now shooting, please consider:
Manually set project preset (File Menu/New/Project)
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30
putting a check mark next to Force Select Project Setting on this Project before you exit the new project dialog. Then import your video into the project with the program's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you will drag the video to the Expert workspace Timeline.

    with burn to: NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD
