IPhoto pictures are missing

I wanted to put pictures on my MacBook with my Camera, but when I opened iPhoto, all my pictures were gone! Where are they? How can I find them?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I installed PS CS 6 and now all my iPhoto 11 pictures are missing.

I installed PS CS 6 last night and now all my iPhoto 11 pictures are missing from the library. I had 45,000 plus pictures and some of them were not backed up. I have tried holding the command and alt keys down while starting iPhoto several times but no luck. Does anyone have any idea how I can recover these photos?

Don't see how installing CS 6 could do this.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Help- After upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.4 all of my default user pictures are missing

    Hello,
After ugrading to Mountain LIon 10.8.4 on my 2010 1.4 GHz Macbook air and now all of my default user pictures are missing.
I found a similar situation on the net in which the guy says to do this: "logged in as root and trashed the old user icon images file the copied the folder froma ML factory disk image".  I have no idea what any of that means or if is for real as an answer or just a way to screw up my computer even more. I need help, and really basic simple instructions like your talking to some one who barely know how to turn on a computer.  I would be really grateful to anyone who will help me. Thank you for your time.

I found a simple solution that worked on my Macbook Air running 10.8.4 which was missing all the User pictures when I tried to access them as the computer administrator even through they wer all there in the User Pictures folder in the Library.
I went into the Library Folder and trashed the "User Pictures" Folder.
I then copied the User Pictures folder from my Macbook Pro (also running 10.8.4) that did not have this issue and installed in on the Macbook Air in place of the User Pictures folder I had trashed.    Then it all worked fine.

I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, I just transferred all of my data from an old computer to a new computer, all my pictures and documents transferred fine but, my albums are missing and the date and time that is usually under the picture are missing.. How do I get them back?

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
The date & Time can be displayed by going to the View menu and checking Details - also File Names if you want them displayed.
The Album information is saved within the catalog so it sounds as though you didn't do a catalog backup on the old computer and a catalog restore on the new computer which is the recommended way of transferring elements data. Did you just copy the photos over?

  • My iphoto photos are missing, what should i do?

    hi
my iphoto photos are missing, what should i do?
    can anyone help me please.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • IPhoto claims pictures are missing, although they are displayed

Suddenly, iPhoto starts acting weird on me. In some events when I click on the thumbnail of a picture, it is displayed but at the same time an error message is shown which claims the picture is missing. It prompts me to locate the picture, and if I decline a black triangle appears.
I have tried all the alternatives provided by starting iPhoto while holding opt+cmd, but without results.
In addition all the photos appear as normal on both my iPhone and iPad, even after syncing.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you for the reply
It is checked, and has always been. All photos are stored in the iPhoto library folder on my computer.
You might be right about the thumbnail, though it is hard to tell since the photos at hand are taken with an iPhone 4. I was not able to find any missing photos in any events taken with my proper camera. I am able to zoom into the photo while the error message is displayed though?
I do keep bakups of both the Library file itself and standalone photos, but either way I find it absolutely unacceptable that iPhoto just looses photos by itself ...
    Any other suggestions?
Edit: I might add that my library exceeds 10K photos if that puts me in a greater risk?

  • IPhoto thumbnails are missing

A few hours ago I imported a new movie into iMovie. Something went wrong and now all of my iMovie thumbnails are missing from iPhoto in the event area. The only movies I see are ones I imported, nothing from iPhoto is showing anymore. When I click on the camera icon and go to the folder where my movies are in iPhoto nothing shows up. And for some reason my movie is stalling now when I play it where as before it was playing smoothly, well the movie I have so far.
I have tried to delete the iMovie cache file, it took 3 hours to rebuild my thumbnails and they were still not there. I deleted the new files I imported into iPhoto and emptied the trash. Any idea how to fix it? I don't really need all the old thumbnails back as long as I can reinsert them and it doesn't look like iMovie can see them anymore. I wouldn't even care about that if my current movie wasn't stalling, I can hear the sound but the picture pauses. Anyone?

  • IPhoto - pictures are not populating

All of a sudden, my pictures within iphoto are not populating. I can see the outline, but the pictures are not there.

    Hi Van,
did you do anything right before this started happening?
did you have a crash or have to force quit iPhoto?
Did you rename any photos or folders in the iPhoto Library folder in the finder?
do you have the latest version of iPhoto?
have you tried a rebuild yet?
    Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
    Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

  • After backing up the 2008 macbook pros harddrive the iphoto pictures are all gone!

A third party company made a backup of my 2008 Macbook pro by taKing the hard drive out of my 2008 macbook pro the videocard broke and i had nochange to do the backup by my own :( so i needed to go somewhere specialized and i paid 125$ for getting the conete harddrive backed up including all my photos music documents. After all the repairs from apples side were done i felt that the harddrive sounded kind of bad so i went back to the apple store and they told me they have to replace the hardrive and if i have an backup which i thought i had, so that was 2 days ago. As i got my macbook pro back from Apple i brought it to thd place who made my backup. All was saved on their extrernal hardrive but all my photos (iphoto) are gone :( they cannot find them anymore on the drive Nd they couldn't do anything for me :( now my macbook is fixed but all my memmories i kept as pictures are gone and i spent 125$ for a backing up my pictures and now they are all gone :( is there anybody out there who may can halp me tell me what to try ? Maybe my old harddrive where did apple sent it to? May i can get it back or could it be on the. Backup drive but under the library or iphoto folders are just some pictures :( like 500 . But there is one corrupt file which i also cannot open :(
I need help :( thank you

    1. Reinstalling iPhoto has no effect on your photos. The iPhoto application is totally seperate from your iPhoto library
    2. Is you backed up correctly and restored correctly nothing would change
    3. Given your report it is clear that you dopi somethinfpg incorrectly. However since you do not tell how you backed up or how you restored it is impossible to guess what you did wrong or if itpt is possible to fix
    4. Exactly step by step howvdid you back up your iPhoto library and exactly how did you restore it?
    5. Do you have a TimeMachine backup or clone of your iPhoto library from before you did this?
    6. What version of iPhoto '11?  There are many different versions

  • Can I make the thumbnails in Lightroom bigger, when the pictures are missing/ offline?

    Hello everybody,
I have a huge problem. There are some pictures from a friends wedding in lightroom who are missing/ offline. The problem is that the pictures aren't on my computer or memory card anymore and I already tried a data recovery with Disk Drill. Unfortunately the pictures (documents) which have been found by Disk Drill, are damaged and can't be opened. So the pictures are really gone.
But now I was looking in Lightroom (i've uploaded the pictures with Lightroom in the first place) and I see that the thumbnails are from a reasonable quality. That's why I am wondering if it's possible to larger the thumbnails without losing quality/ pixels. Of course I already tried a few things (SmillaEnlarger & some things in Photoshop), but unfortunately the pictures are still very bad.
Or is there any other way to get this pictures back? I still got the catalogus from Lightroom where the pictures where.
    3c4z.png
I hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Imane

Thank you very much. I already tried that one and unfortunately it doesn't work at my pictures, because the pictures I have are from a bad quality and a lot of pixels are missing. See example:
    But thanks anyway!!!!

  • Cleaning cookies ? Some of my old pictures are missing ?

    Hello,
I feel that my iMac is suddenly slow.
I have heard that cleaning up the cookies would help.
So not knowing how to do it, I went to History and click on "Clear History"
thinking it would works its magic.
Some of my old pictures are now missing ?
Please tell me the "how to" to speed the iMac
and....  that these pictures are not gone forever. thank you
    LisaNic

I don't think cleaning cookies will speed up your mac.  But just so you know, Safari preferences, Security, Show Cookies.  From there you can clear all the cookies or do it selectively.
For flash cookies use the Flash Player system preference, Storage, delete all or selectively with eh local storage settings by site.
Can't help with the pictures.  Clearing history in a browser shouldn't do anything other that just clear where you visited in that browser.
As for speeding up, repair/verify your drives with Disk Utility.  Make sure you reserve at least 20GB to 25GB for the OS and it's data space.  Run Activity Monitor (in Utilities) and see if there are any processes hogging the cpu and also use it as a guide to decide if you need more ram.
Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used
