IPhoto pictures not showing

A large majority of the thumbnail photos in iPhoto show up as either blank or a white dotted lined box.  If you click on the photo it shows full size just fine.  How do I fix this problem?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • Iphoto pictures not showing in "my pictures"

I've just made the switch from PC to Mac, and most days I find the switch to be easy. However, there are some things I just can't seem to figure out... such as:
I transferred all the pictures from my PC to my Mac via an external hard drive. When I dumped all the pics on my Mac, and imported them into Iphoto, I realized that any changes I made in Iphoto did not alter the same pics in my "pictures" folder in the Finder. When I went looking for the answer to that problem, I was told to delete all of the photos from my "pictures" file, and then I could edit away and delete at will in Iphoto. The problem is, now if I want to upload pictures onto the web, I have to export the pictures back to my "pictures" folder", because you can't go into Iphoto through the Finder.
Am I missing something? Does this even make sense? I'm sure (I hope!) there's some really easy step that I'm missing along the way...
    Thanks for your time.

Your photos are in a package now
    You can always export them
To edit them in a program other than iPhoto you should go to the iphoto preferences ==> general and select edit iphoto in application and select the application you want to use. IF you want to have the option of editing in iPhoto or that application, now leave the application selected and go back to edit in main window - then whey you right click on a photo the contextual menu will give you the option to edit in your selected editing application. When you use the external application be sure to just save (NOT save as) when you are finished so iPhoto keeps the photos and knows that they have been modified.
If you are running Leopard, You also can select photos from the open dialogue box by selecting column view and clicking on photos in the media section in the left hand sidebar

  • Iphoto pictures not showing up in slideshow

I only have 19 pictures in my iphoto library--created from different "rolls" from emails. When I create a slide show of these pictures (from either the iphoto library of from an album that currently has the same 19 pictures), four of the pictures don't show up in the slideshow. In the slideshow preview, they appear "gray" (and the picture flashes behind the gray for less than a second), and when viewing the slideshow, these four pictures view as black. These four pictures view just fine from either the iphoto library or from the album. Why is this happening, and what are my options to get this resolved?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When I've tried to duplicate and the fix the problem I've not had any success. You can try rebuilding the library using iPhoto Library Manager. It does not touch or modify the original library. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.
If that doesn't solve the problem the only way to get a working library that I know of is to start a new library and import the Originals folder from the old one. Here's how:
1 - first, to salvage your keywords, follow the workflow in Tutorial #1. If you don't care about losing the keywords you can skip this step.
2 - move your existing library to the desktop.
3 - move the Originals folder from that library folder to the desktop.
4 - launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
5 - drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will give you your photos back and in the same rolls that they were in the original library. The roll dates may be different but can be edited in the Information window at the bottom of the Source pane as you would edit file names.
In the future I recommend that you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file that's in the iPhoto library folder. This contains all of the information needed by iPhoto to construct the library and is the file that usually gets corrupted and causes the exclamation mark issue. Keep the backup current, i.e. after any import into iPhoto.

  • IPhoto - pictures not showing in full screen

Hi, I'm using iPhoto and have uploaded my pictures from camera (one I've always used before and had success with).  The pictures load and I can see the thumnails, but when I switch to view in full screen the picture flashes up really quickly and is replaced by an exclamation mark.  Any ideas as to what is wrong?  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The "!" occurs when iPhoto has broken/lost the link/path to the original file.  Assuming you're running iPhoto 9 (11) apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto is not showing photos that i have saved on an external drive. I can see tht the photos are on the drive, but iPhoto is not showing them. Help!!

Iphoto is not showing the photos that I know are stored on the external drive. I can see that there is 45 Gig of photos stored on the drive as they appear in finder when looked for, but I cannot see them in iPhoto.
I have used the external drive as the default location for my iPhoto library and not had this problem before.
I had a message earlier about generating thumbnails. I also had iMovie running this morning. This is when the problem began.
Have tried restarting computer and all the obvious things.
    Also tried rebuilding the library.
    Please help!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Please help! I have photoshop and iphoto does not show it in my preferences edit window. How do I get it as an option in my preferences.

I tried it and nothing changed. Even when I right click on an indiviual image all it does is duplicate it. Iphoto seems to be recognizing my external hard drive as an editor......cannot get photoshop except to drag a picture into photoshop from iphoto, and once I have worked on it and saved it to iphoto I cant find it anywhere.

  • Iphoto is not showing faces anymore.

    Hello everyone.
For some reason, my Iphoto is not showing faces anymore. All faces I've cataloged are still there, but it shows only the names. And there are many more others to identify, but It's impossible, because the menu shows only black thumbnails.
All the other features of the app are working fine and all my pictures are shown on the other menus, like "events" or "albuns" for example.
What can I do to solve this problem?
I have already updated to Iphoto 11, my OS is Mountain Lion (last update 10.8.2).
    Thanks.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #2 to rebuild the thumbnails.  It may several attempts.

  • Pictures not showing up, when uploaded?

Hey I have a website www.anchorstudios.ca. Anyways I have been using it for quite awhile for our business. Lately we have had problems with certain pages in our websites. For whatever reason instead of a picture there would be a question mark there. Anyways when I go back into Iweb it looks normal. I try uploading again, and it is still not there. I have tried switching pictures, which either made that picture not show up, or it made different pictures not work. Sometimes there are also problems with the buttons. I also tried deleting the whole page and making a different one? Anybody who has had problems and any success getting rid of this please let me know. Here is the page we have the most problems with:

Darryl ~ If you haven't already done so recently, in iWeb choose +File > Publish All to .Mac+ and then, in a browser, view those pages which previously had photos missing.
If that didn't help, it may be a system problem...
Quit iWeb and in +Applications > Utilities >+ double-click on +Disk Utility+. In the column on the left, click on +Macintosh HD+. Click on the +First Aid+ tab then on +Repair Disk Permissions+. When that has finished just note whether or not many permissions were reported & repaired. Now restart iWeb and choose +File > Publish All to .Mac+. Then, in a browser, view those pages which previously had photos missing.
If that didn't help, quit iWeb and in +Library > Preferences+ look for a file called either:
    com.apple.iWeb.preferences.plist
    or:
    com.apple.iWeb.plist
Drag that file to the Trash. Restart iWeb (it will automatically create a "clean" plist file) and choose +File > Publish All to .Mac+. Then, in a browser, view those pages which previously had photos missing.

  • IPhoto does not show photos in my iPhone

    Hi!
As the title has said, my iPhoto does not show photos from my iPhone, but it DOES recognize that iPhone is connected.
But before all of this happened, I changed my setting (which I forgot how to reset that) to NOT open iPhoto automatically when my phone is connected.
And also, a week ago, my iPhone usb cable seems to be spoiled at one end. It can still connect the phone to the laptop, but very loosely - as if some wires inside are broken.
So I really do not know if the problem I mentioned is caused by my setting OR is it because of my spoiled cable (that it could not transfer the photos from the phone)
And if it is believed that it is caused by my setting, could you please guide me on how to re-set the whole thing?
    Thank you very much.
Ps. I can still sync my songs in itunes to my music in iPhone.

"But before all of this happened, I changed my setting (which I forgot how to reset that) to NOT open iPhoto automatically when my phone is connected."
    Launch iPhtoto.
    In the menu, iPhoto>Preferences>General.
    Change it back.

  • Events folders in iphoto is not showing in my ipad

Events folders in iphoto is not showing in my ipad, it's showing only in imac and iphone, what can i do to make it in my ipad ?

    Probably
do they show in last import? Probably they do - then you have one of two problems
1 - incorrect event sort - correct under the view menu ==> sort events
    OR
2 - incorrect date/time setting on the camera - correct using the camera menu to set the correct date/time for future photos and the ones already imported correct by selecting them in the last import and using the adjust time/date command
