IPhoto playing up

I have iPhoto 09 automatically updated and Pentax K 200 Digital camera. I have imported to my mac many photos either direct via USB or via card reader. Now I can do neither. Nothing happens when i connect either camera direct, or card via card reader. I have tried restarting. The camera mode is switched to PC. Camera does not appear in source list. When I disconnect camera from Mac, pop up warns that I should have ejected in Finder but camera icon does not appear in Finder. Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Only mystery left is to find why iPhoto opens at Mac login,
Some things to check: Right click on the iPhoto icon in the Dock. Under Options, is 'Open at Login' selected?
Is it in the LogIn Items at SystemPreferences -> Accounts?
Or what devices are attached to your Mac? Any FAT formatted devices (such as Hard Disks or Flash Drives) or even All In One devices like Printer/Scanners can be mistaken by the OS for a camera. Solution: See below:
also when I attach iPhone, when not on list of applications I expect to open then.
Your Mac is seeing the Phone as a camera. iPhoto -> Preferences -> General: Connecting Camera and select 'Does Nothing'. Now you'll need to click on iPhoto to launch it when you do attach a camera.

My video that was taken with a digital camera and imported into iPhoto plays back at a very fast speed. Any ideas why?

Is it a slow motion video? iPhoto does not understand the slow motion tags created by some cameras, eg.g. the iPhone back camera.

  • Videos in iphoto played before but now won't play

I tried to create a slideshow and fooled around with some videos in it. Now they won't play. Help!

By fooled around with some videos do you mean you just added some videos to an iPhoto slideshow? Did you try exporting the slideshow or just play it?  Is your profile correct for the system and iPhoto versions?
What happens when you double click on a video to play it?

  • Iphoto play video jumpy

Why in  iphoto videos play back jumpy when I drag video to decktop video play find on quicktime.

What is your iPhoto version? And what is the format of your videos?
What did you do, before this problem occurred? Upgraded or installed software? Imported photos or videos? Moved your iPhoto library?

  • IPhoto Played Video But Hung 100% CPU + AVF error: branch_QT0, getCmdListAsync

    Any ideas on what
    iPhoto: AVF error: branch_QT0, getCmdListAsync
Means and what may be causing it?
    Thanks.
    Imran

    Same thing happened today....
Playing a different 30 second iPhone video in iPhoto, stopped it, double clicked it and it took iPhoto to 100% CPU (one core or distributed on four but still totaling around 100%) and Console shows one instance of:
7/24/12 2:37:29.386 PM iPhoto: AVF error: branch_QT0, getCmdListAsync
Activity Monitor reports 1 recent hang (this one probably) and no other Faults.
Wonder if anyone has a clue what this error is about. Seems to be QuickTime related, from the QT reference, but that is a guess on my part.

  • Can the slideshow on iPhoto play more than one song during the duration?

I have put together a slideshow for my grandfathers funeral.  I am trying to put it to music, but it will only allow me to use one song at a time from my iTunes, even after I have made a special playlist for this.  Help, I have to complete this by tonight.
    Thank you!

As King_Penguin correctly points out that iPhoto slide shows are one track only. But here is how I get around this limitation.
I purchased Amadeus. It's a music program that lets you record, copy, and edit music files. I make copies of all the songs I want to use in my slide show then combine them into one file in Amadeus. If you want to change music at a specific slide it can get a little tough figuring out the timing but it can be done.
Once you have the single music file arranged the way you want, save it and import it into iTunes. I find it best to make a new playlist with just the new file included. Then select the new playlist for your slideshow in iPhoto.

  • Why is iPhoto playing slides in reverse order?

Using Mavericks. Apparently others have this issue. Classic mode, dissolve. User order.

Is this a 1st or 2nd gen shuffle, or a 3rd or 4th gen shuffle?  This article shows the four types.

  • How Aperture plays with iPhoto

Could someone tell me how Aperture and iPhoto play together? I shoot with a Nikon D200 use Photoshop for editing and iPhoto for cataloging.
Having watched some of the Aperture videos it looks as if Aperture may be a better choice for me than Photoshop and from the screen shots it almost seems as if it kind of replaces iPhoto. Is this the case? If you edit in Aperture does it also act as your photo catalog or would I still be using iPhoto? If you use Aperture for editing can it save the edited photos in Aperture?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Agree with the above post, You'll use PS less.
When both are installed (aperture 2.x and photoshop) go in Aperture > Preferences > Export> then set the external editor to Photoshop. Then on the 'rare' occasion you need to do something aperture won't do, just click image, edit image with > photoshop and when done click save and it saves as a new version. Nice integration!.
Just my 2 cents but I am really liking this setup.

  • QuickTime movie clips won't play in video player

I have movie clips generated by my camera that are in Quicktime format that are in iTunes and iPhoto (playing in both) but will not sync to the iPad because they are in an "unsupported format"
I have a few other QT clips that did sync to the iPad from iTunes, but not all of them will transfer.
    What is the problem?

Just because the videos from your camera are Quicktime, doesn't mean they will play on the ipad. Open the videos with Quicktime on your computer and get info, COMMAND+i. Here are the video specs for the iPad:
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format. http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

  • Playback of iPhoto movies not smooth

For 5 years I have taken a lot of nice avi movies with my compact Nikon S210 camera.  They always play back very smoothly and are a pleasure to watch directly on my Mac, via a large attached monitor or even to my Apple TV.
But this past week my daughter purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-Z25.  A super camera that records videos in either a "clip" mode or in mp4 format.  Great it would seem, except that when playing back these "movies" in iPhoto (latest version, running 10.8.3 on my MacBook Pro mid-2010) they are jerky-- not smooth.  Sometimes if I play the same video 5 times over, it gets better.  But then I play another one, go back to that one, and it is jerky again.  Same if played with QuickTime.  BUT never a problem with the avi movies taken on my other camera -- only this Lumix gives the jerky playbacks.  Why?
I am ready to purchase a Lumix but WILL NOT if I am going to have videos like that!

Old Toad and TD:  This is the reply from PANASONIC.  NOTE:  They thought I was having problems in iMovie.  I was talking about the latest version of iPhoto.  So I tried iMovie, and all the videos that were choppy in iPhoto played perfectly and smoothly in iMovie.  GREAT-- but I hardly ever use iMovie-- I find it an awkward program to use just to view a few nice short videos…  So fine that it works in iMovie, but I need videos to play in iPhoto.
My questions after the reply below (to you and I already eMailed these to Panasonic) are:
Have I possibly set the videos (AVCHD and mp4) to record in 50 fps mode which apparently won't play correctly in iPhoto?  Actually I was trying to record in 50 fps, but when I did INFO in iPhoto it always said 25 fps (but with my old Nikon Coolpix S210 it said 30 fps)
How can I find the fps info when I import the videos into iMovie?
They said 50 fps is not supported by iMovie-- but is it?  Perhaps it is supported by iMovie and not iPhoto??
Panasonic mentions some software/drivers.  Is that something I perhaps need to do?  Attach the camera and install drivers?  How will that work with iPhoto?????
    What else???
    Here's that reply from Panasonic:
    Thank you for your e-mail.
Regarding your enquiry, thank you for displaying the full problem. As I understand the videos playback perfectly in VLC media player, which means that the video itself is recorded perfectly, and the problem needs to be with the iMovie software that does not fully support the video format. We kindly recommend you contact Mac as this is an issue that they need to solve in order for you to playback properly the movie.
I hope you can understand my point of view, because if the problem where to be with the DMC-TZ25, the video should have played back choppy using any media player, but given this situation, the problem is only with the iMovie.
The following information is the only one we have regarding using the DMC-TZ25's software on a Mac computer:
Please note that 50p footage available on some cameras is not supported by Imovie.
The supplied software is not Mac compatible.
Connect the camera to the Mac, selecting ‘PC’ on the cameras connection options. The camera will install using drivers built into the Mac and appear on the desktop.
Iphoto should start up automatically when the camera is connected to the Mac, and give you the option to import your Photos and Motion JPEG Video. We recommend using OSX 10.4 onwards and Iphoto 08 onwards.
To download your AVCHD video you will need to use the Imovie 09 package from Apple. Imovie will not automatically open. You will need to open Imovie and then click on the Import button on the left hand side of the software.
Please note that Imovie 08 will detect the AVCHD videos on the camera but may crash when importing. There is advice on the Apple website regarding this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3481
For further help using the Mac applications please refer to the Apple website, contact Mac by phone or visit your nearest Mac store.
I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • When adding music to an iphoto slide show, is it possible to sample pieces of songs?

Does anyone simply sample bits of music for their slide shows? I have only been able to apply entire songs.

You can't. Iphoto plays the music track. It's it's 3 minutes long then it plays for 3 minutes.
So if you want to play segements you'll need to copy the track, duplicate it and edit it to the requied length
    Or
Use an app that supports multiple audio tracks.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
    iMovie, on every Mac sold.
Others, in order of price: PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • Watching iPhoto album on ATV2

I created an album in iPhoto. When I watch thru ATV2 the photos appear in a completely different order. How can I watch the album via ATV with the photos appearing in the same order as in my iPhoto album on my macbook? Many Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Apple TV/iPhoto plays slideshows in chronological order, if you want your albums to display in another order, re-order the photos in iPhoto and batch change the date to reflect the order you want.

  • I cant find my iphoto but still have pics

I can't seem to find my iphoto, playing with computer a while back and seem to have removed it, but still have all of my pics under "pictures"  Is there anyway I can bring back iphoto.  Unfortunately I am not very techy at all.  Help !!

In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-A. The Applications folder opens. Locate the iPhoto icon in that folder and drag it into the Dock (not to the Desktop.) If iPhoto is not in the Applications folder, then you deleted it. Either restore it from a backup or reinstall it.

  • Problem with rebuilding iPhoto library database

Some of my videos in iPhoto play fine, however, I get the ! sign with some of them when I attempt to play.  I've tried rebuilding the library database, but the process gets stuck at 92% and never completes.  What now?

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Can't play video files - max CPU

I have an out-of the box MacBook with leopard - and I simply had to use Force quit about a thousand times.
    The problem:
    When I try to...
    - import (iPhoto)
    - play (Quicktime)
    - Preview
    - open a folder in which there is...
... a video file shot with my Samsung Digimax A5 camera, the application (finder, quicktime player or iphoto) just maximizes the cpu usage, and hangs. And I have to close it by force quit.
However, the files are not corrupted, VLC Player plays them without problem, and also provides the following codec information:
    FLUX0 (video)
    Codec: MJPG
    Res.: 640x480
    30 fps
    FLUX1 (audio)
    Codec: MLAW
    Channels: 1
    Freq: 8000hz
    Bits per sample: 8
    64kbit/s
(maybe I translated some properties wrong, I use french Os X)
Since nearly every action (spotlight search, opening iphoto, trying to import files to the iphoto library, etc.) encounters with a file like this, and hangs the application, this really makes my life ****.
    Any suggestions?
