IPhoto printing on Canon MP640

I'm having problems printing from iPhoto using WiFi. The printed photo in no way resembles the preview: sometimes the prints are cropped, sometimes borders appear on three sides etc. However, when I use the USB connection, the prints are fine. I'm using what I think are the latest drivers (CUPS 10.30.3.0) - any suggestions why the WiFi connection should behave differently and what I can do about it? I'd prefer not to reinstall the drivers, as it took several hours last time and I still don't know what I did to get it right!

The v10.30.3.0 driver is certainly the latest. Check that both the USB and the WiFi print queue are using the same driver version.
What you will notice is that all the selections made in the iPhoto print dialog don't stick when you then get to the next print dialog window. But you should still see a preview of the image at this print dialog and it should still look complete. If you don't see the image, ensure you click the triangle next to the printer name to see the print options.

  • TERRIBLE LOOKING PRINTS USING CANON iP6700D & iPHOTO '08--HELP!!

I just bought a brand new iMac and am attempting to print pictures from iPhoto on my Canon iP6700D. The prints look HORRIBLE. Very grainy, low res, amateurish. When I use the Canon's direct print option (you can print directly from a smartdisk using the printer's LCD screen) the quality is AMAZING. So, I'm leaning toward a configuration issue with the iMac.
I did try printing from Preview to make sure it wasn't an issue withiPhoto, but had the same issues.
Does anyone have ideas on how I can solve this?
    Thanks!

Just to get you bye (until the issue with iPhoto is sorted out), Cannon has a Mac specific printing utility for your printer - EasyPhotoPrint. It should work great until iPhoto is working good for you.

  • Help printing wirelessly from MacBook Pro to Canon MP640?

I can't print from my new MacBook Pro (running 10.9.1) to my Canon MP640. I installed the latest driver (10.84.2.0) correctly, I think, and the printer has WiFi connection and I can print via a PC on my wireless network, but MacBook doesn't see it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi bannyx,
I hate to hear you are having issues.  Does the printer have a valid IP address when connected via Ethernet or wirelessly?  Click Here for steps to take related to this issue. Please see the below information regarding the connection types for this printer.  Also I need a bit more information to proceed if the above link does not resolve the issue.
    Needed information:
    1.  Has the installation been completed from a disk or download?
    2.  Did the installation software detect the networked printer?
    2.  What is the IP of the printer when connected with Ethernet cable?
    3.  Are you able to access the embedded web server for the printer (type IP into address bar of web browser, does printer web page pull)?
    4.  Do you have security software running on the computer?
    5.  Is the router running in mixed mode?
    Connection information:
    1. Ethernet and wireless connectivity are exclusive.  If the device is hard wired with an Ethernet cable, wireless communication is voided (radio disabled) because the printer is networked with a cable.
    2. Disconnecting the USB cable puts the driver in an offline state due to the fact it cannot communicate with the printer.  This is normal; it basically informs the user the device is not communicating.
    Hope this helps!

  • Installed driver for Canon MP640 printer but when I use comes up with communication error

    Hello
I have just purchased a new IMac and have had very little to do with Apple before so everything is foreign.  I used the help desk today to download the driver for my printer Canon MP640 which came up as connected with the green light.  When I went to print my first document it is now coming up with an error that ther is a "communication error".  I am not a techno person and don't have a great deal of patience with technology.
    Please helllppp.

  • I have macbook pro w existing iPhoto library. Now have Canon printer and loaded Canon software for same. Cannot access iPhoto library from Canon software, but prints fine from iPhoto. How can I use iPhoto library w Canon software?

I have a macbook pro w exisitng iPhoto library. I now have Canon printer and loaded Canon software for same. I cannot access iPhoto library for use from Canon software. I can print from iPhoto directly to new printer without problem. How can I use iPhoto library with Canon software? I would like to try the software to see which I prefer...

Simply export some photos from iPhoto to a folder on the desktop and experiment.
Without telling us even what this program is, not to mind what it does, that's the best anyone can suggest.

  • HT4356 Can a Canon MP640 be used to print from an iPad

Can a Canon MP640 printer with WiFi be used with AirPrint

To print from your Android phone, you would need the HP ePrint Home & Biz app available for free from the Google Play store.
As for printing without an internet connection, your options are somewhat limited.
First thing you would want to do is make sure that you have a printer that is compatible with the ePrint Home & Biz app. A list of supported printers can be found here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/ePrint-Print-Apps-Mobile/Cloud-Services-Supported-Printers-ePrint-Airpr...
You next step would be to get a wireless router. You don't necessarily need an internet connection, just a router broadcasting a wireless signal. After you have the printer set up, you would want to connect it wirelessly to the router. Then you would want to connect your Android device to the same router. This will put both the printer and phone on the same network.
As long as both devices are on the same network, the ePrint Home & Biz app will search the network for compatible printers and your printer should show up in the list, allowing you to use the app to send print jobs to it.
However if you want to use the actual ePrint service, you will have to have an active internet connection. The way ePrint works is that your printer is assigned an email address and when you send something to that email address, it prints off on your printer. If the printer does not have an active internet connection, it has no way of reaching the servers and the print jobs will not print off. You actually wouldn't even be able to set up ePrint without being on an active internet connection.
Hope that helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

  • My iMac will not print to my Canon MP640

My iMac will not print to my Canon MP640.
I have downloaded and installed latest drivers from Canon.  I have spoken with Canon and all they advise is to ensure I have current drivers (which I have).
The iMac will occasionally print to the MP640 but only after turning the printer on and off several times and sending and cancelling the print a number of times.
I have tested printing using a colleagues Canon printer and the WiFi printing works fine.
    Please help.

Mike - unfortunately I couldn't get this to work.
I held down the option key and pressed "-" but I didnt get an option to reset the printing system.
Is there any other way I can get to this option (I have already tried opening the printer utility page but that doesn't give me any options either)?

  • IPhoto prints black with Canon 3500

I scanned a b&w negative (with Epson v500), used iPhoto to crop and select appearance. Everything fine so far. When I click to print on Canon iP3500, the preview (and actual print) are completely black.

You can use an Automator workflow to batch convert those files to the RGB mode with the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile. Open Automator and look for the workflow titled "Apply ColorSync profile to images". You can set it to either replace the existing file or create a new file. The only downside to this method is that the resulting file size will be less than the original as some jpeg compression is applied when the file is saved.
You can use ColorSync Utility or Preview to Match to Profile - sRGB IEC61966-2.1. But again, the file size will be reduced the same. The Automator will be faster and have the same result. I've created an Automator workflow application to do just that. You can download it from  Toad's Cellar.
For future scanning scan black and white files as color.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Canon MP640 - "No scanner selected" bug in Snow Leopard

    Hi!
I use a Canon MP640 printer/scanner combo unit WITHOUT installing any software from Canon. I like to stick with the built-in functionality of Mac OS X. Which means scanning via Preview.app or ImageCapture.app.
Until recently everything worked flawlessly. Have not used the scanner in a while though and now with 10.6.4 installed I found out, that the scanner does not appear anymore in the Preview.app menu FILE > IMPORT FROM SCANNER > ...
Opening up SystemPreferences.app in order to delete and add the printer again only helped for one scan when the scan was invoked with the printer button. Turning the printer off/on and the link between the computer to the scanner was broken again
In SystemPreferences.app Snow Leopard says "No scanner selected" when I choose the printer and click the SCAN tab in the printer/scanner section.
Anybody found out how to fix this issue without installing all the Canon printing/scanning software? I would like to stick with the built-in Preview.app.
    Thanks

Sorry to read that nothing has helped to date.
Checking the operation of my MP980 connected via USB and using Image Capture or Preview to scan, the process 'Canon IJScanner1' is the only process that starts when the scan is initiated from either application. And long after the scanning has completed and the relevant applications have been closed the process remains in the process list.
If I force quit the 'Canon IJScanner1' process I then find that the MP980 is not listed in the 'Import from Scanner' menu within Preview. And with this process still closed, if I go to Print & Fax and click on Open Scanner under the Scan button of the MP980, the Canon MP980 scanner queue will appear but with 'No scanner selected' inside the pane.
So I can recreate what you are seeing. But the question is why is your 'Canon IJScanner1' process stopping. If you check your Console log messages, is there any reference to this process stopping or failing?
Checking my log it showed as follows when I force quit the process.
    13/09/10 4:34:00 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501 (183) ({0x0-0x577577}.jp.co.canon.ijscanner1.scanner.ica{66850}) Exited: Killed
    Also, FYI, trying to start the process again manually is proving difficult. Double-clicking on the 'Canon IJScanner1' icon in /Library/Image Capture/Devices starts the service temporarily but then stops soon after. This is shown in Console as follows;
    13/09/10 4:42:51 PM {0x0-0x61d61d}.com.twainds.mp980.scangear140800.canon{67810} /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/Canon MP980 series.ds/Contents/MacOS/Canon MP980 series: /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/Canon MP980 series.ds/Contents/MacOS/Canon MP980 series: cannot execute binary file
    13/09/10 4:42:51 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501{183} ({0x0-0x61d61d}.com.twainds.mp980.scangear140800.canon{67810}) Exited with exit code: 126
The only solution I could find was to restart the Mac but this made the process re-appear in the process list and consequently I was able to scan from Preview again.

I have a Canon MP640 and I am trying to connect my Macbook Air to the wi-fi how do I do this?  I have been able to connect through the USB no problems.

What version of mac are you running? Have you downloaded any of the drivers/software off the website yet? If not, you will need to download and install the CUPS Printer Driver and the Canon IJ Network tool.
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp640#DriversAndSoftware
Then, you will want to open and use the Network Tool to set up the network connection

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Canon MP640 is not found via wireless using canonijnetwork tool

    MacBook Pro late 2008. OS X (10.5.8)
    BT home hub
    Canon Pixma MP640 wireless printer.
Printer set up wifi connection to wireless BT homehub without any problems. Confiremed wirelss LAN settings via printer display.
Ran setup disk M1.1 successfully installing drivers. On Canon IJ Network Tool screen, an alert message appears stating "printer not detected".
I have tried adding it through system preferences > print & fax > clicking + tab. Two printers are displayed: Canon MP640 series ...Bonjour; Canon MP640 series canonijnetwork.
I added both printers, but they only appear as USB in the utilities tab. I changed it to network, then selected Canon MP640 series canonijnetwork (only option displayed). Try to print and the dialogue box appears for the printer, stating it is printing, yet nothing prints.
I typed the IP address into safari and checked the settings everything is enabled and IPV4 is being used.
Have been to canon website and downloaded their drivers but when I open them message states cannot be opened on this operating system.
How do you connect this printer via wireless?
    Thanks,
    Sally

    1. Have you restarted your Mac since installing the printer? Canon-installed software starts automatically (actually for scanner operation) that shows a pop-up to confirm that I want to use the wireless Canon installation during the start process.
Canon isn't clear in communicating that to print wirelessly, you are actually installing the printer as a (WiFi) wireless device on your network hub. Then when you print, your Mac first communicates with the network hub, and then the hub communicates with the printer. So, your BT hub must be on in order to print. (My Canon MP560 works the same way.)
Have you followed the Canon network printing troubleshooting guide available here? --> http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printersmultifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixmamp640#BrochuresAndManuals
When installed correctly, your printer should appear in your list of installed printers as a Canon MP640 *with a 6-character hexadecimal address*, such as "Canon MP640 F9A3B1" THAT is the network printer.
You can rename it later, if you so desire. The 6 hexadecimal characters are the last 6 digits of the printer's network hardware address. I(t's called a MAC address, but it has nothing to do with Macintosh.)
The 'Canon MP640 series' setup you have installed can ONLY be accessed via a USB cable, and as you discovered, you cannot change the interface. If you have no need for a USB connection, you can delete that print setup from print/fax preferences.

  • Color option in IPhoto printing

I'm guessing there is no way to use color profiles for specific paper in Iphoto - right?
So, when I'm using the print driver (Canon pixma 6600)what do I set the Color Option to in order to match screen colors? None or ColorSynch or BJ Printer.
Under None and Color Synch the colors are less saturated than screen. Under BJ Printer they are a bit too much saturated.

    Hey
iPhoto does not manage colour per se, rather all colour is managed by Colour Sync (applications/utilities/colorsync utility).
In iPhoto-Preferences-advanced there's a check box for adding a colorsync profile on import. At least in iPhoto 6 there is not sure if iPhoto 5 has it. Either way colour will still be managed through the central color sync engine.
Sorry I can't be more help than that - i use iPhoto for sorting and storage but do all my colour editing in Photohop. iPhoto preserves the camera profiles (or sRGB) so i'm happy!

  • Canon MP640-- 6C10 Error

    Hi
A little over a year ago I bought a Canon MP640 printer. During the first few months everything was fine. However, a couple of months ago things changed a bit. There are times when I go print a document or even do a simple photocopy I get a 6C10 error. The printer tells me to turn it off and then turn it back on again. I do this but it does not help. I tried moving around the printer head, taking the carriages in and out, cleaning the print head, aligning the print head, cleaning the bottom plate and cleaning the paper trays. These maintenance tasks do help for a while but a couple of days later the same issue comes back. I did contact the Canon people and they did not provide too much guidance. They told me, at first, to make sure all of the packing material was removed from the inside of the printer. I had this printer for almost two years, if this was the case I would of had worse problems. Then they say it might need some servicing.
Does anyone here have Canon MP640 who is experiencing this error issue? Is it worth spending money to get this printer serviced?
    Any guidance will be appreciated.

    Hello vng.
This error may occur if one of the ink tanks was not seated properly or when there is a loose object stuck inside the printer.
    Please try the following:
    1.  With the cover of the printer open, unplug the power from the back of the printer or the wall.
    2.  Look for any loose objects or packing material in the printer, clear if necessary.
    3.  Try gently moving the ink tank holder as close to you as possible.  Try pushing the closest ink tank down.  Once clicked into place, try moving the ink tank holder closer, repeat as needed.  If you meet resistance, do not attempt to move the ink tank holder any further.
If the issue persists, please contact our support group using the "Contact Us" link below for additional assistance.
