Iphoto Projects Question

I am creating a calendar in iphoto. When "dropping" a picture into the layout, it zooms in, cutting out part of the picture to fit the space. The slider is all the way to the left. I can not zoom out anymore. How do I change this to not lose any part of the picture?

I've not found any way of fitting a photo to the frame in a calendar like you can in a book. Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • How do I import an Iphoto Project (book) directly into Aperture 2?

I have a book that I did as a project in iPhoto '08 that I would like to import directly into Aperture 2 and "redo" the book using Aperture's new features.
Although I imported my iPhoto library I don't seem to have this project in Aperture and when I look to export the project from iPhoto it wants to export it as a movie.
Since the photos from iPhoto are in Aperture I figured that importing the iPhoto project would be easy. I don't want to recreate the book again if I can help it - I just want to import and modify it in Aperture.
Is it possible to do and can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks,

You CAN completely customize the text in iPhoto books, including left/center/right justifications, and it is fairly easy. Here's the workaround:
    1) In your iPhoto book (or calendar or whatever) layout, highlight the text you want to modify or change its alignment.
    2) Launch TextEdit and open a blank document. Paste the text from iPhoto into the document.
    3) Still in TextEdit, highlight your text. Using ordinary word processing methods, modify or realign your text as desired. When satisfied, highlight the customized text and copy it.
    4) Back in iPhoto, paste the newly modified text you just copied from TextEdit into the desired text box, overwriting (or deleting first) the original text. All the modifications you made in TextEdit should apply.
This trick can work wonders for helping make an iPhoto book completely your design.

    No, unless they're all prints.

  • IPhoto project export to iTunes disabled in Mountain Lion??

I am a bit frustrated. It seems that after upgrading to Mountain Lion I cannot export my iPhoto project to iTunes anymore. This is a pity because it is a nice way of bringing my projects with me (iPhone / iPad). Any suggestions?

    Thanks for asking!
iPhoto had an option to export a project to iTunes. I used this option a couple of times. Today I completed a new project. And then I thought it would be nice to export it to iTunes ..... I have searched al options, but this one seems to be gone! Even a workaround via PDF is not working.
This is the first time ever that I feel a bit frustrated on my mac...

  • Old iPhoto project files missing captions after upgrading from OSX 10.4 to 10.7.4

    Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping you might be able to assist me please!  I had created a bunch of iPhoto project books whilst using OSX 10.4 and the version of iPhoto that resided there.  I've recently upgraded all the way up to 10.7.4 and installed the most recent version of iPhoto so that I can finally purchase these photo books.  iPhoto "upgraded" my projects and now all my captions have been replaced by the "ipsum lorem" template text!  Is there any way I can recover the caption text from the hundreds of pages?  Do they reside in a file somewhere on my Mac or have they been wiped away during the upgrade?
Thanks for you time and consideration!

  • Iphoto project deleting

Hi, I deleted an Iphoto project (photolibrary) by accident, how can I restore it? I previously saved a pdf of the whole project but I need to have it in the original format again to be able to modify it. thanks a lot

Did you make a back up? The location of a back up and how to restore will depend on how you made the back up.

  • I have an illustrated book stored in iPhoto projects that has been printed once but will be annually updated.  If I upgrade to Mavericks, will this still be available to me for editing and reprinting.

I have an illustrated book saved in iPhoto projects which I plan to update and reprint in future.  If I upgrade my Macbook to Mavericks from Yosemite, will I still be able to access, edit and reprint this?

If you're going to update the book each year I suggest you follow this tutorial to save the book in it's own library.  That isolates it from the day to day library which could experience problems resulting in loss of project, i.e. the book: iP12 - Archiving an iPhoto 9 (11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date
The book library is often small enough that it can be copied to a CD or DVD for off computer backup.

  • How do I move an iPhoto project to another mac?

Reading through the threads it seems I must move the entire iPhoto library.
    However a few questions:
    1. I don't want to mess up the library on my target mac with the older library that contains the project.  How can I import the library without causing a problem to the good library
2.I assume I can connect firewire, and do that transfer, but how specifically, does one do that?  connect the macs with firewire, then what?
thanks I am kind of a mac noobie.

OK an update.  I put my old computer into target disk mode, renamed the iphoto library to "iphoto library old" and dragged it to the desktop of the new computer.  I guess I can use it on the desktop, but really what I need to know now is can I MERGE the two libraries?  I deleted all the old projects except the project I want before transferring to the new computer, so all I really want to do is MERGE the libraries.  So I guess question 1 above still stands. I don't want to mess up my new iphoto library....
lastly, I don't want to use third party software to merge the libraries.  Isn't there a way to just export the project?

  • Iphoto slideshow questions

I am running iphoto 9.5.1 with OSX 10.9.3 I am making a slideshow that I will eventually export to an external HD. When I make a title for the first picture it does not save for some reason...I have to constantly redue it. Why?
I don't see an option to save the slideshow and it seems to be auto-saving which is great, but that first picture's title won't save.
Last question...when I have completed the slideshow can I just drag and drop it into my external HD?
    thanks

, but it only works on my computer!
Where do you want to play it?  If you want to create a video DVD that will play on TV sets with DVD players you need to use a video DVD authoring applicaiton like iDVD. Here's how:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The following is important only if you don't already have iDVD on your Mac:
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • Aperture vs iPhoto library questions

Hello, I am brand new to Aperture from iPhoto.  I am moving to Aperture to take advantage of the organization options because I am starting to run out of HD space with my 100 GB iPhoto library.  I want to have the option in the near future to switch to referenced masters on an external drive.  So my question has to do with the unified library between iPhoto and Aperture.  When I upgraded to Aperture, I had to first update iPhoto to the new library format.  I then opened my iPhoto library in Aperture.  Everything I've read about the unified format has explained that it is compatible with both applications.  But I've also read that iPhoto does not work with referenced masters.  So, can I use Aperture to convert my iPhoto library to Referenced masters?  Or do I need to transfer my photos into a native Aperture library first?  And then once I switch to referenced masters, will iPhoto still work with my new library?
    Thank you,
    Ray

But I've also read that iPhoto does not work with referenced masters.
And then once I switch to referenced masters, will iPhoto still work with my new library?
    Ray,
iPhoto can use referenced original master image file, it works well in iPhoto '11. Only, iPhoto has no built-in tools to repair broken references, if referenced files get accidentally moved or changed, so it is not recommended to do this in iPhoto. But since you now want to use Aperture, that will not be a problem. You will be able to repair broken references using Aperture. iPhoto will work well with a referenced Aperture library. I am using it all the time.
So, can I use Aperture to convert my iPhoto library to Referenced masters?  Or do I need to transfer my photos into a native Aperture library first?
    Yes, that is simple.
Upgrade your iPhoto Library by opening it in the latest iPhoto version, and then use the command "File > Open Library in Aperture".  Now Aperture will work with your iPhoto library as an Aperture library. Events will show as Projects in Aperture, albums will still be albums. All keywords and ratings, Faces and Places  will transfer.
To switch to referenced masters/originals select the images you want to relocate and use the command "File > Relocate originals".
You may want to read this page of the manual:
Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Referenced Images
But make a full backup of your libraries before you start to reorganize them and relocate files.

  • Page mismatch in iPhoto (project/album)

I finished a project in iPhoto. Looks perfect in display. I then ordered. Got Apple reply. Problems. Advised to check in PDF-preview. Did so. Much to my surprise the first single page (right side) was connected with the second page (left). Then all other page subsequently were wrongly connected. A mess.
Ordered 4 albums in former iPhoto in identical layout: no problems...
    Help!
    (OS X 10.6.8)

I believe you can right click on the images in question and delete them.

  • Moving an iPhoto project from one mac to another?

OK, so i have bookes created on my macbook air on holiday and now that im home i want to copy these projects (hours of work) to my main iPhoto library on my iMac....is this possible and how do i do it?

No, merging will not do it.
You copy the Library to the other machine - so you have two libraries - then open it and work away.

  • How do I save an iPhoto project?

    Hi all,
I'm trying to put together a book in iPhoto 11 for a Christmas present. However, when I close the program and go back in later, all the photos are gone and I am left with a blank project. As it's quite a big project I can't really do it in one sitting - however, with this current problem I can't see a way around a long night in front of the Mac.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a symptom of some wider problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sam

    Wider problem.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • First FCEHD Project question

    Hello
I am just finishing all of the tuturials from Tom Wolsky's book on FCE. I am getting ready to begin my first project. I am creating a sports highlight video. My question to you experienced users is what would be your recomendations for working in the timeline with music. Should I get all of my video in the timeline and then ad music tracks, or would it work better to insert my music tracks and then add the video? I am going to have 1 music track per game of highlights. I need to have the music match the portions of video.
I hope I have provvided enough information to allow for recomendations from you guys.
    Thanks in advance.
    power mac G5 Dual 2   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   2.5 gigs Ram

My way is cumbersome but it works for me. I create a folder for each game. I capture separate clips for each play that I feel are highlight worthy into the appropriate folder. I include a number in each clips title so I know the order they occurred in the game. Once everything is captured I review each clip and set the in/out points and drag them to the timeline, usually in their numerical order. I may change them around a little if it fits better with music.
It is a time consuming workflow. A 2-hour game tape usually yields about 25-20 minutes of tape and from that tape I generally average about 3 minutes of highlights. My capture process generally takes about an hour to 1 1/2 hours. And then about 2-3 hours of editing (includes editing music) per game.
    But I enjoy it.
    Good luck.
