IPhoto + PSE 8 external Editor = opens only 4 images at a time

I'm using IPhoto to Organize my Images. In the preferences of IPhoto, Photoshop Elements 8 is set as the external editor.
When I select e.g. 10 Images in Iphoto and pushing the edit button, Photoshop shows me only the first 4 images of my selection.
Is that normal? What is your experience?
Thanks for your answers!

Thanks for your reply Barbara,
then I have to add my images in four-groups, if I want to edit it with the same filter effect in Photoshop.
This spends more time

  • Iphoto 11 + PSE 9 externer editor

    Hi,
Because the organizer of PSE 9 is very slow, I use iphoto 11 on Mac OSx to organize my fotos. If I edit a foto with iphoto, I get one modifieded picture in iphoto. If I work with PSE 9 as an external editor, iphoto does a duplication of my foto and I get 2 fotos (original + modifieded) in iphoto. Is it possible to get one modifieded foto with PSE 9 in the organizer of iphoto with the option to get back to the original?

No, this is a quirk of the current iphoto with any external editor. Most people think it's a bug, but apple evidently disagrees.

  • I had to reformat my OSX 10.5.8 and i can't restore my emails from my time machine backup from an external hard drive - only the latest (post backup) time machine back ups are available to restore. Please can any help

I had to reformat my OSX 10.5.8 and I can't restore my emails from my time machine backup from an external hard drive - only the latest (post backup) time machine back ups are available to restore. Please can any help? I can find the mail folder in my libraries, but the Restore Button is grayed out

OSX treats the reformatted drive as a different one; it's the same as replacing it, and the old one is no longer connected.
See #E3 in  Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see and restore from the "old" drive.
And, you may not want to restore via the Finder; see the blue box in #15 of  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Editing iPhoto photos in external editor, i.e., PSE

    iMac running Mavericks OS.
From iPhoto, when I click a photo to edit in external editor (PSE), I am taken to the pse editor, but my photo is not.
Why is the photo not appearing?

Because you chose the logical file instead of the correct one as your external editor. The PSE icon at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen. The actual editor is buried way down in support files:

  • Aperture 2 no longer supports iPhoto "edit in external editor"

I've ordered Aperture 2.0, but I'm still using the demo.
iPhoto 2008 Help says I can use Aperture as an external editor.
I just tried. Aperture opens, but the image does not appear.
I suspect this functionality broke in either Aperture or iPhoto.
Anyone else test this? I'll probably submit a bug report for iPhoto on this.

    Terence Devlin wrote:
Aperture has never worked as an external editor for iPhoto, and I could not see anywhere in the iPhoto help where it says it does.
Here's the text from the Help file (emphasis mine):
"Choosing what happens when you click the Edit button
When you want to edit a photo, you can have the photo open in one of four ways: in the same window, in a separate window, in full-screen view, or in another application..
Under Edit Photo, select one of the following options:
In main window: Opens the photo in edit view in the main viewing area.
In separate window: Opens the photo in edit view in a separate window.
Using full screen: Opens the photo in full-screen edit view.
In application: Opens the photo in another application you choose, such as Aperture or Photoshop."
Anyway, thanks for confirming that it really doesn't work now. Probably it never did, there was just an error in the documentation.

  • Can't open image in external editor, can't export images

    Greetings helpful Aperture experts,
I've just finished transferring aperture from one computer to a replacement unit. Except for being slow on my previous g5, it worked flawlessly at every level. However, now that I've xferred, I can't open Aperture images with an external editor, nor can I export the images to my desktop. Any help along these lines will be gigantically appreciated.
    gaylon

Thanks, ok, here is the info step by step:
When I try to pick any raw image, I am not able to export from Aperture. When I go into the finder and select "show master" then I am able to export from aperture. However, it seems that I am not able to export an image full size. I selected export image to full size jpg to my desktop. Nothing happens except that the window that indicates the image is exporting is open and it says estimated time less than a minute. Yet, there is nothing happening. Additionally, before I transferred Aperture over to my new g5, I could right click an image and had the option to open an image with external editor. Now, no such menu item is apparent. An update, the menu box that lets me know that my image is exporting is still open but there has been no progress. It will just sit there forever, or until I force Aperture to quit. Here's another strange goings on: One of my folders of raw images appear to be pixelated and of very poor quality, even when viewing the masters. The images have already been published by the client in their annual report, so I know that what I am seeing on the screen is not reality. Should I just uninstall Aperture and reinstall? Also, what will this do to the thousands of images in my libraries? Thanks so much for your input and help. In no way am I an expert, but I've been successfully using Aperture since it came out. That was on my G5 dual processor mac with pre intel configuration. Now, these strange things are happening with my new replacement G5 with the Intel processors. Thanks again.

  • MacOSX Photos App (versus iPhoto): edit in external editor?

Just a quickie to see if my deduction is correct. In the new Photos app on OSX I can find no manner via which to "Edit in external editor" as is (was?) possible in iPhoto. I deduce the manner for this now, is to export a photo, edit it (and rename if so desired), then re-import it. Correct? (No more of the handy, immediate-seeming path.)

I just realized that Photos doesn’t have a Feedback feature and at the moment there’s no Photos support there. Hold that thought and look back at the Apple Feedback site I linked to. With luck in a short while we can feedback our wishlist on Photos. I know this one is high on my list.

  • External editor - open in Camera raw

Can i, when using photoshop Cs3 as external editor, make Aperture open the dmg
file in Camera raw, Just like Adobe Bridge does?
Now, when i open a file from Aperture into Photoshop it just opens in... well,Photoshop!
( Cannot find External editor choice for Camera raw...)
    Yeah,guess i´m stupid.....
    Regards,T

    No, you can't do this.
Currently 'Open in external editor' will always render the image version to a TIFF or JPEG prior to opening it with the external editor.
If you want to send it to ACR, or any other raw converter, you will need to do that yourself, before importing the resulting image (back) into Aperture.
(There's a few threads here which discuss workflows for this in more detail. But they all amount to workarounds for something Aperture isn't currently intended to support.)

  • Customizing filename when using an external editor - can only one filename be used by all editors?

I have a number of external editors defined for my LR 3.3 Win7 application. Within my Preferences, when I customize how an editor, say, Photoshop CS5, handles a file, I can set the name of the edited file - e.g., {Filename}-ed.psd . However, if I change the edited filename for another external editor, say to {Filename}-SilverEfexPro.psd, that filename is used for all externally edited files. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
              Dilip

A side note here; just because it _opens_ the file in your external editor with that name the first time, doesnt' mean that's the name it has
to be saved as.  When you go to save it, select save as, instead of save.  I beleive I have used this technique before, and LR still "finds" the file.
Sometimes even when I don't *want* it to find the file!
    Cheers!

  • Why won't Painter erase a keyword on only ONE image at a time?

This has been driving me crazy - I'd like to delete a keyword on select images. I have hundreds of keywords and many are nested, so sometimes I screw up and need to erase selectively. I thought this problem was a bug, but it has persisted into LR 2.4!
In Grid mode, I select Painter, choose a keyword and search through images where the eraser icon shows. However, if I then click on that image, Lightroom sometimes erases that one image, but more commonly erases four or five at a time! (No, they aren't highlighted.)
Any ideas? I'd sure appreciate them!
    Deb

Thanks, Ian, but now I think it's a bug, not me. Occasionally, erasing with the Painter tool works fine, but more often it's truly a spray can out of control! I am using a tablet, not a mouse. Even if I highlight one image and then click quickly on the Painter, sometimes it will erase 3-6 additional images. I can't figure a rhyme or reason, except it seems more likely when I have hundreds of images showing.
I had wondered if there was a way to set the Painter to only erase one image at a time. If I slide it over images (like spraying), it often is out of control.
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto 11 window won't open, only have full screen view

After I upgraded, the iphoto window would not come up. The menu bar at the top is active, and I am able to access my photos from Full Screen View. But when I toggle back, and close full screen, everything closes...
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • How to open only one clip at a time in the source monitor?

Ok the answer to this question may be simple.. hopefully...
At the moment each time I open a clip in the source monitor it adds it to the dropdown list.
Fine... but I am opening and closing hundreds of clips in a day and after a while I noticed it seemed to be slowing down the whole PPCS5.5 system.
It appears that PP seems to be keeping each clip I open... active.
Is there a way to allow only one clip to be open at a time in the source monitor... other than having to close them all first??? (would be ideal if there was some kind of shortcut like shift-doubleclick)

SonyZ7's can record to compact flash cards as well as tape, so I generally log and transfer from the cards.
So I guess I should do a bit more research on workflow's in Pr

  • Open only one folder at a time

Hello.....  I am sorry, but I can't figure this out.  When I go into my folders (I have folders inside of folders, inside of folders)  I would like to open the first, then the second and then hit back to go back, rather than all of the folders opening each time and having to close each one.
    Hope that somewhat makes sense!

  • Acrobat will open only one pdf at a time.

Hi. Can someone please clarify for me why Adobe Acrobat will open allow one pdf to be visible at a time. If addtional pdf's are opened they display as black. Means I cannot stitch multiple pdfs together.
Am using Windows 7 Pro and Acrobat X Pro. Attached below is screen shot of 2 pdfs open at same time. The one behind is fine while the one in front appears black but if was opened on its own would open fine.
    Thanks

That looks like a graphics driver bug - try turning off/on hardware acceleration under Acrobat's preferences, and ensure your drivers are up to date.
Acrobat doesn't tend to play well with multiple-monitor setups, but it shouldn't do what you're seeing.
