Iphoto quitting during import
Hello there,
During recent imports from my camera, Iphoto quits and posts error message saying "quit unexpectedly" As a result of this I have tried probably 10 times to get it to work. As a result everytime i open Iphoto again, it has a huge tally of photos that are ready to import. But, in actuality will not import because it shuts down. So any help would be wonderful i will post the error message below:
I am using a canon powershot SD540 if that is any help.

As a result everytime i open Iphoto again, it has a huge tally of photos that are ready to import.
Let's deal with this one first:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Now start iPhoto again, and see if that resolves the whole importing issue.

IPhoto crashed during import and deleted photos from import
I tried to use iPhoto today to import 400+ photos from a recent holiday from my iPhone. When prompted I chose to delete the photos from my phone. When iPhoto was in the 'finishing import' stage it crashed and I was forced to force quit it. I assumed that because it said the import was complete and then asked if I wanted the photos deleted it had stopped working during the deleting and the photos would be safe in my iPhoto library. However, when I went into my library, none of the photos had been imported and all but 40 had been deleted from my phone. At the moment I stand to lose 400+ family photos.
Is there anyway to recover them?
My last backup of my iPhone included them on our family computer (I'm currently at university) - would this help? I wouldn't want to restore my phone from this backup becasue I've now got new information on the phone (incl. more photos) which I don't want to lose.
Also, I tried to import these photos in order to make sure I had them saved before upgrading to iOS6. Would doing this affect the temporary files which (I assume) the photos still are on my phone, albeit hidden? Would using my phone in other capacities (i.e. taking photos, texting, using internet, calls etc.) effect the data? Or am I wrong and the photos are in temporary files on my laptop?
ThanksFirst try the following to make sure they are not in the library but just not getting recognized by iPhoto: make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

When I try to export my photos to Facebook, iPhoto quits unexpectedly as it's loading my pictures. This has happened at least 6 times now- here is one of the error reports, in case it helps:

IPhoto quits as importing images !!!
I have an iMac G5 (1024MB RAM) and OS X10.4.2 also iPhoto 5 (latest)
As importing images, iPhoto quits without error, just creates an report for Apple.
Need help!!! Any ideeas?
My iPhoto library has about 41000 images....maybe to much for it?

Can you give us some additional information on your setup: model, RAM, HD size and free space?
Have you tried the usual general fixes? Repair disk permissions, clean out the various User cache files with OnyX (or the utility of your choice), run the cron maintenance scripts (again with Onyx). Try to assure you have the recommended minimum of 15% or 10G free space available at all times to maximize system performance. Running Onyx to clean out the various user and system caches (your first reboot will be slower than usual but will get back to normal on subsequent restarts) and running Monolingual to clean out all of the unneeded language modules. I saved about 900MB the first time I did that. WARNING: If you run Monolingual make sure English is not checked. If you accidently remove it very bad things will happen.
You might also consider downloading and running the 10.4.3 COMBO updater followed by a repair of permissions.
Are you getting any kernel crashes, i.e. when a gray curtain descends with warnings in multiple languages?

How do I force iPhoto to close, the App is hanging following an attempted import from iPhone 5c via USB cable. iPhoto is release 9.5.1
Force quit iPhoto via the ➙ Force Quit menu. Launch iPhoto and try importing from the phone again. If that also fails do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.
3 - try importing again from the iPhone. -

What versions of iPhoto and the system are you running. As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
OT -
I had downloaded 603 pictures from my camera, when iphoto quit while finalizing the process. Th photos are now missing from the camera and I can't find it anywhere in iphoto... Any ideas? iphoto support was no help.
I asked the question, and I can now answer it for everyone's benefit: the pictures are not lost!
Even though the photos did not show up in iphoto, they were all in the library. I looked under Finder / Today and found the files there. By clicking one of the pictures I could see where they were stored, and it was inside the iphoto library. However, I had to copy all the pictures to a folder in my desktop and re-import them into iphoto in order to see them in the software. I'm not sure why that is, but I don't really care as long as I haven't lost the pictures! -
Iphoto quit during upload- did I lose my pics?
Can anyone help me with uploading pics from my camera to IPHOTO on a MACbook pro?
I just uploaded my memory card via USB, when it was done it asked if should delete the originals, I said yes, because I thought it was in Iphoto, then Iphoto quit unexpectedly, when I relaunched the application, the photos appear to be gone from both Iphoto and the memory card. Someone please tell me I didn't lose them... Please! Where else can I look?No I didn't I found some but not all under Library- Photos, lumped together not auto split as events, so are the rest gone?

Iphoto crashes during import from drive.
I have a new macbook air with iphoto 9.1.5. I've imported pictures directly from an sd card out of my camera and it works fine. I transferred all my old pictures onto the computer, but every time I try to import them into iphoto, it unexpectedly quits. I tried rebuilding the library and the preferences, deleting and reinstalling, and the RAW updates, nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I sold my ipad and bought the computer for better photo management, but as of right now I hate my macbook.
I opened one with preview and saved it to the desktop and imported it and it worked. I copied thefolder with all my old photos to the desktop and imported itfrom there and it didnt even start the import before it crashed. Here is the report,if that helps.

Aperture quits during Import when Photostream enabled
Whenever I enable Photostream, Aperture quits a few seconds after it starts importing from Photostream.
This occurs even with the latest Lion update and the latest Aperture date. I have tried repairing, rebuilding but still crashes.
Once it starts doing this I don't even have time to turn Photostream off in the preferences before it quits again.

Any suggestions?That's an indication that your library is damaged and needs to be repaired: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory. -
Now, the rest of my photos won't import and when I try to import the rest, it says wait while importing. I can't close iPhoto, I can't exit, restart or select the photos to import.
Apple menu ==> Force quit
Then Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

Using IPhoto 8.1.2 and while importing photographs from a Canon camera, the Image Capture process did transfer each photo (and did delete all photos from the camera), but after that IPhoto locked up. Have I lost the photos from the import and if not where are they?
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. By lock up do you mean iPhoto won't quit? If so have you tried closing or force quitting iPhoto and reopening?
Just a note: this is exactly why I strongly recommend one does not have Image Capture or iPhoto delete the photos from the memory card. Always use the camera to reformat the card.
OT
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete. -
Iphoto quites during book designing phase
Hi. Has anyone had any problems with iphoto just quitting on you after hours of work and not saving? I've been trying to design a book for purchase and it just quits after hours of working on it, designing the book I want to buy and I cannot retrieve any part of it. Where are these books being saved on the hard drives anyway. There is no folder or other information that I can get to to pull my albums from. My pics are about 3000 X 2000 pixels does that have anything to do with it?
Yes, do a print to pdf. This will give you a pdf file of the book that you can send. However, it will be pretty large depending on the size. A 35 page (printing on both sides) large book will come in at 123MB. If you've got a site where you can post it and your friend can download that might not be so bad. But you'll never get anything near that size to email.
If you want to get the pdf file that iPhoto creates for printing (will be different from the one you can create) follow these instructions and then cancel the ordering process:
How to Find the iPhoto Generated PDF File:
1 - Start the ordering process and stop after the book has been assembled and you get to the Order pane where you select the cover color, copies, etc.
2 - Go to the Finder and select the Go->Go to Folder menu item (CommandShiftG).
3 - copy the following, /private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto (for Panther the path is /private/tmp/501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto ), and paste into the Go to Folder search box.
4 - the iPhoto folder will be brought up. In it will be the PDF file that was generated by iPhoto. You can copy it (Option-drag) to the Desktop to review and/or save.
Note: the iPhoto folder will not exist before you start the ordering process and is deleted after the order is completed or after you cancel the order and quit iPhoto.
A little off the subject but I thought I'd add it any way here's what I do with each of my books that are designed as gifts.
1 - open the book in iPhoto and then click on the PDF button in the Print window and select "Save PDF to iPhoto". This will create a hi resolution jpg image of each page and import into iPhoto.
2 - open iDVD, select a theme and click on the slideshow button.
3 - open the slideshow window in iDVD and under the Customize Media pane select those page jpgs and import into iDVD.
4 - select a transition and a audio track from iTunes.
5 - complete the menu page text and burn a DVD disc of the book pages.
I give that DVD along with the book. It's an easy way to show the book to many people via the TV set.

IPhoto crashed during import, now the programme will not shut down
I was importing photos from my iPhone to my macbook and half way through the importing stopped. Even when it isn't plugged into anything it says its still importing and i cannot shut down iPhoto to try again. A forced shut down doesnt work because a box comes up saying i have to wait until the import is complete. this hasmt changed in 3 days. can anyone help?
Use the Force Quit command. It's under the Apple Menu.
