IPhoto rebuilding stopped!  Photos gone

I was doing the usual on iPhoto, tagging faces and editing.  Then I received the error message saying that my iPhoto had suddenly become unreadable.  So, taking the advice off of another discussion, I attempted to rebuild my iPhoto.  Everything was going great at first, but then all of a sudden it stopped its process.  I open iPhoto and only a fourth of my original pictures are there!  I have some photos backed up, but not all of them.  Please tell me I didn't lose all my pictures!  Do I need to rebuild again?  Thank you in advance!

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto crash - then photos gone!

    Hi,
I have just imported a few photos off my SD cards as I do often, after importing I deleted the photos off the SD card as normal. Then I was editing one of the newly imported photos and then iPhoto wasn't responding so I "force quit" it. But when I reopened iPhoto the photos are gone!!
Went to 'Last Imported' and it shows my load of photos from previous SD card import!
Please help I have lost the photos!

You Possibly have lost yoru photos unless you purchase data recovery software like media recover - the free trial download will tell you what is possible to recover
First try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
For the future a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • IPhoto freezes, photos gone, unable to rebuild,...

    Hello,
    iPhoto wouldn't open. Computer stuck.
Now iPhoto is empty. Library gone.
I tried to rebuild the library in iPhoto (via import). But now there is not enough diskspace !?
total volume of library = 272 Gb
total available disk space = over 430 Gb...!!
Thanks in advance for your effort !
    Regards
    Titi

    hello Terence,
Thanks for your prompt reaction !
    - What version of iPhoto. = iPhoto 11
    - What version of the Operating System. = Snow Leopard 10.7.4
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
Just opening iPhoto, to import photos from my camera. The 'beach ball' came along and the computer froze. Even a forced stop (by alt-cmd-esc) couldn't stop iPhoto. So I pushed the on/off button on the iMac to restart, even pulled the plug.
    - Did it ever work properly?
Yes, although some (older) pictures were unable to open in the past. The thumbnail is available but when you double click on them > 'yellow triangle with the exclamation !
    - Are there error messages?
No, only the beach ball & programm not responding...
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
The library was located in a 'shared' folder, so I dragged it to the folder under my name under 'Pictures'.
I tried to rebuild the library by opening iPhoto with the ALT-button. I could chose from a more recent iphoto library (some MB). But I 'linked' to the original library of 272 GB.
Thanks again for your help !

  • Updating iPhoto library memory full, photos gone!!

Similar to the problem indicated in the response from: Muhamad Abdulkadir
in this thread: Pictures disappeared after installing Yosemite and new Iphoto. Why
When my iPhoto library (very large >1TB) was updating, it ran out of memory.  Unfortunately, something happened and on rebuild, all my photos were gone.
Looking in the "Old Masters" that Muhammad mentioned, I see the folder structure, but no photos.
Now under my "iPhoto Library Recovered Photos" folder, I have >1TB of data in that folder.  All the photos have a number appended to it (e.g. IMG_1469_14.JPG) in the example, the appended number is _14.
It sounds like this is all my photos, and would love to restore these photos, but can't seem to do it.  I do have a backup, but its offsite at the moment.  Any ideas?

    Thanks Larry!
You bring up a great point..  Based on your comment "..assure that you have adequate disk space available..."  It sounds like the upgrade copies the library and tries to upgrade it?  When not enough memory is available, it would generate the "memory full" message?  Somehow, when I saw it said memory full, I assumed it was RAM related and not storage..  If it is storage, then that makes sense, because I have just under 1TB available.

  • I cannot open iphoto- the message I am getting says Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Comma

I tries and it doesnt work!!

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Is there a way to stop iPhoto storing my photo stream photos on the mac hard drive when enabled? They have not been imported to my library. I have no photos saved on my MacBook Air yet 50gb of Hardrive space is taken up by photos.

Is there a way to stop iPhoto storing my photo stream photos on the mac hard drive when enabled? They have not been imported to my library. Is there a way to stop iPhoto storing my photo stream photos on the mac hard drive when enabled? They have not been imported to my library. I have no photos saved on my MacBook Air yet 50gb of Hardrive space is taken up by photos. When I turn off photo stream on iCloud preferences the memory is freed up. I like to be able to access my icloud photo streams on
my macbook but it has a small Hardrive and loosing that much space is annoying and it kind of voids the point of photo streams. Is there a way I can stop
    this ?

Is there a way I can stop
    this ?
No, Photo Stream is syncing with iCloud. The most recent 1000 photos in iCloud will be buffered on your mac, even if you do not import them to your photo library, if you enable My Photo Stream.
See this link:   iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.

  • Iphoto has stopped uploading photos and frozen. I have paid online for the book - what to do?

Hi there.. iphoto has stopped uploading photos and the programme has frozen on me. It assembled the book (step 1.), then did not complete the upload (step 2). Prior to these steps I provided my C/C detals and paid for the book.  i had to Force Quit the iPhoto app, and now wondering what to do!? If I try to buy the book again, then it asks for my C/C details...

Did you get a confirmation email from Apple?  Click on the Store button at the top of this page and use the Account ➙ Track a Purchase link.  That will tell you if they received your book.  Apple doesn't charge the card until it is shipped.  You can also check with your credit card company to see if there's been a charge from Apple.
Try previewing the book by Control-clicking in the background of the view all pages in iPhoto and select Preview Book or Save Book as PDF:
If that process fails then there's a work around for it.  Boot into  Safe Mode and preview the book again to make sure you can get a PDF of the book.  If you can then order the book while still in Safe Mode.  Save the PDF file to compare with the printed book. If the PDF file is satisfactory the printed book should match it.
What size book are you ordering?  Xtra large?

  • How to get iPhoto back in order after recall? Is rebuilding your photo-library dangerous?

I recently had my iMac recalled, and when I got it back, about a quarter of my 62,000 photos only show the thumbnail vies. When I try to enter them to edit them, I get a black exclamtion point within a white circle and no access. I called support and did the 6 steps to rebuild. No results so far.
My back-up is questionable beucase as the comupter hard-drive was dying, it stopping backing up the exteral hard-drive 4 months prior to the actual recall when they replaced my hard-drive.
SO . . . I spent 20 hours putting every **** photo on DVD's before the recall to make sure I didn't lose them. Now I can reload the photos from the DVD's and the photos are all there and normal. However it is time consuming.
THE QUESTION IS - SHOULD I DO THE MAJOR REBUILD WITH APPLE SUPPORT, OR CONTINUE TO RELOAD FROM MY DVD'S?

    Thanks OT,
I did the list of repairs APPLE support gave me, but I do not believe it included thte Option+Command launch. Is that a full rebuild that risking losing my organization (books, slideshows, etc)?
I do have two external hard drives which I alternate every few months in case of fire, and which are connected (one at a time) with time machine. Apparently during the internal hard drive failure I missed that the external backups stopped working, and the faulty hard drive would not let me back up when I tried before the recall. NOW my backup works, but it is backing up the faulty data! If I use the old back up I lose 4 months of data, if I use the new I have the fautly data. I think I am back to reloading with the DVD's I made. By the way, I made them becuase I had a computer AND it's external hard drive fail beyond repair 4 years ago. At that time I was able to rebuild my photo library from discs becuase I had made a CD or DVD of every project as I downloaded it from the camera. Heres to backing yourself up in multiply ways!
    Oh my.

Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

Trying to sync new photos from iphoto without having the old photo synced on ipad2 but when I select sync from iphoto the old photos are already included. How do I stop itunes from preselecting photos? Already tried selecting "selected albums, events, and faces, and automatically include" then I enter "no Events" with no success the photos still are being synced along with the new photos. I want to be able to add new photo and remove old photos. Please help this has taken a lot of my time trying to figure it out.

If I knew the answer I would have given it - but since it is not an iPhoto question I suggested
You might try the iPad forum - or the iTunes forum - this really is not an iPhoto question

  • How do I get iPhoto to stop pulling from two photo streams?

My iPhoto library is saved on an external hard drive and I've opened it on 2 separate macs and each mac has it's own separate account linked to it, now my iPhoto is pulling photos from 2 separate photo streams. How do I fix this?

First be sure to have a current backup copy of your iPhoto Library.  Next go into the System/iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Photos checkbox:
Next, go into iPhoto's iCloud preference pane and uncheck all checkboxes:
Close iPhoto and reboot your Mac.  Then return to the System/iCloud preference pane and check the Photos box and do the same in the iPhoto/iCloud preference pane, i.e. check the 3 checkboxes shown in the screenshot above.

  • How do you get iPhoto to stop autocropping/zooming photos within a frame?

I have hundreds of odd shaped images and I don't want to have to manually "fit to frame" hundreds and hundreds of images?
Can I turn off the autocropping or zooming function so Apple uses my  actual picture dimensions?  Or at least is there a way to batch "fit to frame"?  Thanks for any help!  Scrapbook we must deal with issue all the time.
    Cheers,
    Lorili

If you're referring to iPhoto books and photos in the frames on the page there is a Fit Photo to Frame Size option.  Command (right)-click on the photo on the book page and select Fit Photo to Frame Size from the Contextual menu:
An extreme example of it is shown here:
