Iphoto recent upgrade - all Events gone. Photos there, sorted only by date. No events

Since the recent upgrade, the new iPhoto has eliminated all Events. The photos are there (I think they all are, but not sure) but there are no events, the photos are all just sorted by date (no titles/events). I had just finished organizing all Events days before the upgrade.
Not happy with this upgrade.

KEY WORDS: "until it's resolved"
Rest assured, the new Photos lack of ability to automatically add new photos as "Events" will be resolved in much the same way that many unwanted, unneeded, and for some users, workflow-crippling changes to Apple operating systems and related software are ever resolved:
1. Apple will do nothing. If few people complain through the proper channels via Feedback, the product will remain as is, and users will either eventually adapt to the new organizing schemes, or will find and use another product that better fit our ways of thinking, manipulating, and organizing our digital images, all shaped by our existing libraries of images that were in iPhoto.
-OR-
2. If enough authentic and specific complaints (in the low millions, at least) are sent promptly and directly to Apple via Feedback, and if the complaints are precise and persistent, and continue relentlessly over a period of years, then some similar capability MIGHT be added later, in some future update, in a couple of years.  (Think OS X 10.13.1, "Ellis Island" or whatever geographic icon that future iteration might be named after. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to import their digital images directly into "Events" once again…)
(There are of course many other possible scenarios, none of which involve returning iPhoto to the marketplace, nor "fixing" Photos to be like iPhoto was.)
Not complaining*, simply explaining.
*Because registering outrage and frustration by complaining here in Apple Support Communities does absolutely nothing to ever resolve any issue with Apple. This is a only a user community that Apple allows to exist at it's pleasure. Apple does not officially monitor or ever officially respond to feedback here, and the moderators do not tolerate rants.

  • After reinstalling my mac, all my normal photo's are only faces½

Before, I could see all my photo's normal but after reinstalling my imac and iphoto, all my normal photo's are only in my photo library as singles faces. Where are my normal photo's?

so after reinstalling I imported the photo's again from there with the import to library option in iPhoto.
And that's where it went wrong.
Never import an iPhoto Library to another. Inside the Library there are up to three different versions of your pics, plus the Faces thumbnails - and that's what you're seeing. When you imported this library each of these elements is treated as an individual file.
The solution is to open the Library on the external - Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' or, if you want the Library on the Internal copy it to the Pictures Folder and do the same.
    There's no importing involved.

  • Since the recent upgrade all my photos have gone from Aperture and i cannot open any backed up Aperture files please help.

Since the recent upgrade i have lost my Aperture libaray and cannot open the old one message reads you cannot use this version of the application Aperture original with this version of OS X you have Aperture original 3.2.4.
How do i get my photos back please.

Aperture 3.2.4 will not work on Mavericks.
You can do as I did, either do a web search for Aperture updates to your current version of Aperture to update to Aperture 3.4.5 OR just simply upgrade to latest version of Aperure 3.5 ( from the Mac App Store) that is fully 64 bit compliant for OS X Mavericks. As long as you have registered your previous version of Aperture, the new 64 bit version will be a free upgrade.
Be advised that if you just upgrade to the latest version of Aperture, it will update your Photos  Library, as well.
When this happens, your old version of Aperture on older versions of OS X will no longer work with the new, updated Photos Library.
If you still want to be able to access your Photos Library with an older version of Aperture and older OS X version, you need to make a copy of your current Photos library.
Make a copy of your current Photos Library and put it into a folder called something like old Photos Library so you still have an older version you can still access if you need to.

  • IPhoto5 to iPhoto 6 upgrade: All Film Rolls in 1 Roll Now

    Hi,
I have an external Firewire HD with my entire iPhoto library on it (over 13,000 photos/11 GB). I have back-up DVDs of each year (1999-2005) that I burned through iPhoto. Prior to upgrading to iPhoto 6 on the FW HD, I placed each folder from off the burned DVDs from IP5 (1999-2005) in the iPhoto library and then when I launched IP6 it asked me if I wanted to make a new library before importing the photos, and I agreed, yes. All the photos were imported, but they are all in one film roll. When I check an individual photo, it appears to still have all the meta-data (including the actual day it was shot). How do I fix this ? I am semi-savvy on OS X, but it appears the semi is the operative word here. I have "View as Rolls" selected under View. After doing a search here and reviewing Lori Diloreto's website (excellent resource-thanks Lori !), I just can't get my head around what I am doing wrong. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and regards, Chris

Do you have a backup copy of your V5 library as before you added the other folders and updated? If so move it into your Pictures folder, moving the other one to the desktop and identify as questionable. Now launch iPhoto and it will tell you it needs to update that library. Your should retain your rolls, keywords, etc. for those photos in the library at that time. Once you have the new V6 library up and running, mount a DVD disk and copy the folders of pictures to the desktop. Now import each folder into iPhoto from there. You should get a new roll for each folder imported. Do that for each disk.
If those DVD disks are titled iPhoto Library then they are in the iPhoto format and will be imported differently. The will have files in the library folder similar to those in your V5 library folder, thumbail files, data files, etc.
Again, starting from your old V5 library update just it to V6. Then put one of the DVDs in the drive and it will appear in iPhoto's Source pane directly underneath the Library icon - like this. You can drag that disc icon onto the Library icon to import all of the photos on that DVD disc and you'll keep keywords, comments, rolls, etc. intact. Do that for each disk.

  • How do i create events from my photostream?  In the past all my photos were automaticaaly placed in date orientated events

How do I create an event in iphoto from my photostream?? In the past all photos from my memory card from camera would automatically go into a date sensitive event.    Now i cannot seem to do this

Be sure you have iPhoto's iCloud preference pane setup as shown in this screenshot:
If it's setup that way a new Event should be created for each month when the first photo is taken that month.

  • Can you export only certain dates or events?

I use iCal on my laptop to organize my life, but my job wants me to be on Oracle too. So I export my iCal "work" calendar and import it in Oracle. Fine. But then I add something to my calendar, and I want to put it on Oracle too. if I export my "work" calendar again, and import it on Oracle, now I've got one new event and duplicates of every other event I imported the first time.
Is there a way to export my iCal calendar for only a range of dates? Or only this or that event? The ideal would be to be able to export everything added since the last export, but I don't see anything like that in the options.
help -- this seems like an obvious and necessary feature, and I'm sure I'm just missing how to do it...

    HI,
Did you ever determine an answer to this question? I really need to export data after a certain date... (I would also like to publish a calendar, after a certain date-- as no one needs to see the "old" events).

  • IPhoto has wiped all of my photos

iPhoto has managed to completly wipe my whole libary containing around 2000 photos.
when I open it up a box pops up asking what library I want to open but there is no libaries available to select. Normally, plugging my iPhone or an SD card on will automatically open iPhoto to upload the photos to there but this does not work.
Photos are only added into iPhoto, so i don't have them in finder to transfer over
Is there any way to restore these photos, especially as quite few are not backed up?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Jake

We need to know more, before we can dare to suggest specific tools. Jake. If there is no hope but data recovery, sop using your mac at once, so that no more disk blocks will be overwritten.
Where did you store your iPhoto library? In the default location in the Pictures folder or on an external drive? What happened, before the library vanished? did you upgrade or update software? Install any new software? Did iPhoto crash?
Have you searched your Mac for "iPhoto Library" with Spotlight or Find Any File?   http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php

  • Operating system Mac OS 10.6.8. Recently upgraded to CS6 Encore. There are no buttons and menus in Library at bottom right of screen, so cannot put a button on the menu in Flowchart

How can I get buttons and menus in Library in the Encore 6 screen? There are none showing in my just upgraded Encore 6, when they were there in Encore CS5.

Richard, the link you provided is correct, but it involves a two step process that first gives only a few templates, then requires another download that gives all the library.
I think most users who ask the question just want the second step, which is all that is presented here:
Encore Help | Download full library content/functional content
When I first started recommended that option, I expected users to ask for the "other" templates, but in Encore, that includes "styles" (that do not appear to be used much) and flash export templates (that are also not used much). So I go straight for the full library that I know the users wants.
The other oddity is for a user upgrading from CS5.5 (EN 5.1), and keeping 5.1 installed, the installer (your link) involves the bizarre step of DELETING the 5.1 library.
For Premiere CC users looking to get PR templates/styles, they must use your link.

  • Prevent iPhoto from downloading all FB & Flickr photos

I want to be able to publish photos to certain sets in iPhoto, but I don't want it to import my entire Flickr library. Is there a way to choose which sets iPhoto imports from Flickr?

I myself would be interested too in a solution...
I use the Flickr account in iPhoto to upload photos. This bit works just fine.
However *I don't want iPhoto to download* any photos from my Flickr account.
How's that possible? I couldn't find any UI setting for that but I presume there's an option to disable that via the command line?

  • If I save my iPhoto folder containing all of my photos onto a disk drive, will I only be able to open those photos from a computer that has iPhoto?

I want to back up my photos, but they are all contained in iPhoto. Is it sufficient just to copy the entire iPhoto folder onto a separate disk drive or should I do something else?

The iPhoto library contains every thign you ned to use iPhoto - database files and two or three versiosn of each photo plus face thumbnails and other information
TO have a backup you need a copy of the iPhoto library
However to backup just your photos or to use them on another computer withour iPhoto select the photo and export (file menu ==> export) to a folder and put that folder on teh disk

  • Unable to Update iPhoto after upgrading to Maverick.  Error "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (20)".  Please help.

    Hello,
I just updated my software to Mavericks and I have been trying to update iPhoto on my system without success.  Error from App Store is "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (20)".
Can anyone help with this please.
    Thank you.

    Try this:
Make sure this checkbox is checked in the System/Sharing preference pane:
If it is, uncheck it and then recheck and try ordering again.

  • IPhoto has deleted all my imported photos from my phone. How do i get them back?

When I imported the original photos, I deleted them from my phone.

But the OP already specifically said that he "imported the original photos" to (presumably, from the title) iPhoto, which then deleted them from the iPhone. Therefore, they should be in iPhoto, and one of the options when you're importing is to delete the pics from the phone. If they aren't in iPhoto, something's really screwed up. We're assuming it hasn't yet.

  • Photos not sorting correctly by date; new photos appear before the oldest images in my library...

I've tried nearly everything, but I'm still having this problem. I am using the same camera, so that's not the issue...

Did you reset the Ascending or Descending feature of the sort option?  If you already have then try this basic fix:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
