Iphoto recovery, help needed

I recently decided to export my photos and videos from iphoto to make space on my macbook pro. What I was unaware of was that when exporting the files needed to be switched to 'original'. Now realizing this mistake I have quite a few video files on my back up hard drive that are all a single black image. Because I removed them entire off of iPhoto and my laptop I can no longer view the videos.
Does anyone know of a way of retrieving the videos based off of the files I still have?

Same as any mistakenly deleted file - if the trash has been emptied then either restore your backup from before the mistake was made or use file recover software like FIle Salvage or a data recover service

  • Recovery help needed for Equium A300D-13X

    Hi all,
After experiencing too many problems to list with my Equium A 300D 13X, both hardware and software, I decided to go ahead with a complete restoration to factory settings.
My first step was to create 2 dvd recovery discs, using the Toshiba recovery disc creator.
As far as I can tell, both recovery disc's were successfully created, insofar as the recovery disc creator said as such.
Not knowing what step to take next, I started the laptop with the fist of the two recovery disc within the disc drive, thinking this would reset the laptop to it's factory settings, however it did not.
    Now when I start up the laptop I get the following message;
    BOOTMGR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
which restarts the laptop again displaying the above message.
Pressing F8 on start up does nothing.
    Pressing F12, multi boot selection, brings up a Boot Menu with 3 options;
    HDD1: TOSHIBA MK2046GSX-(S1)
    CD/DVD: MAT****ADVD-RAM UJ-850S-(PM)
    LAN: Marvell Yukon 88E8040T
    If I select the CD/DVD option, a black screen with the text ;
    Windows is loading files
is shown. I'am guessing this is the correct path to recovery,
however after the following recovery utility screens regarding language selection etc, a text filled dialogue box
    X:\windows\systems32\cmd.exe
runs through, but ultimately becomes static at the line:
    Copying F:\06948XSP.swm to V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg 1/6
without successfully finishing the recovery process.
Any help in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Kev.

What to say buddy you have done everything correctly.
The recover disk has been created successfully (did you see a message saying this??).
Booting from recovery disk should start the recovery procedure and you should follow the installation on the screen.
    Usually this should function.
The error; BOOTMGR is missing says that boot manager on HDD has been deleted and its not possible to boot from HDD.
You should boot from CD as you did; pressing F12 choosing CD/DVD drive
Try to format the HDD again using another Windows CD.
In such case you will need to set SATA mode to compatible in BIOS and then you could boot from WinXP CD.
After that try the recovery disk again

A short rundown on my situation...
I have AVG virus protection and run scans at least 3 times a week. Unfortunately, some nasty malware got loaded from the web and I couldn't get rid of it. As soon as I downloaded the free Adaware program, I lost almost all capabilities and control of .exe files and multimedia files. I can not run any program other than Windows Internet Explorer (I always use Firefox) including administrative controls in the Control Panel. Before I lost control of my laptop, I performed 3 system recovery's without any success. Are there any ways to get my computer back on track or do I need to order the hard drive reformatting software?
    Your input is greatly appreciated.
    -Jonathan-

do your laptop come with recovery media or did you make it yourself? did you try holding zero(above P) during boot to get into the system recovery partition? if zero doesnt work you will need to order recovery media. order online or call 1(800)457-7777

Stop using your Mac a.s.a.p. as you may be overwriting essential data. Use a serious data recovery program to bring the files back. This is an example program

    hi,
my father in law owns this laptop.
we are in the uk but he bought it in southern cyprus.
today whilst windows vista was updating some files he closed the lid and it was switched off.
now it wont boot just goes to a recovery screen, there is no mention of being able to recover from the hard drive only from disks.
these to my amazment are still blank, basically he never made them and thought the blank CDs were the recovery disks.
if i go to the uk site it wont recognise the laptop but diverts me to the american site but posting is only available in america or canada.
ive tried all evening to find either a solution or some way of getting some recovery disks in the uk but apart from a few dodgy sites i cant get any help.
i then found here and hopefully i can get a solution.
    thanks in advance.

    Something to try
If you can get your hands on a regular Vista or Windows 7 install disc, you can boot from it and load Windows Recovery Environment, then there will be some tools to attempt repair, the tool you will want to use the Windows System Restore, when it loads it will show you the latest restore point, let it use that to do a system restore and should return it to a state before the update were partially installed, hopefully getting it booting again.
Here is a Vista tutorial, it will be very similar if you use a W7 disc.

  • Product Recovery help needed

    Hi
I need to do Product Recovery and as a non technical silver surfer I'm very nervous about getting it right.
So far I've saved all my data files but I don't know how to save my favourites and all my outlook messages.
Due to validation error message I can't access Outlook but I'm hoping there is some way that I can still save the messages.
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Thanx in advance.

    Hello
You must not be nervous about it. Recovery procedure is simply to do and after 20 minutes only you will have clean preinstalled operating system with all necessary drivers.
Only thing you must do is data backup.
For outlook messages follow instruction given by Akuma.
With favourites do you mean favourites in internet explorer?

  • Recovery help needed

i tried to help my nephew who was running out of HD space on his mini. got an external hard drive, but missed a step in the instructions and have messed stuff up.
after stumbling around (including an attempt to move from the iPod back to iTunes), here is what i have.
i have a copy of the iTunes folder on the external
the original HD, from which i emptied the trash, has not been written on.
is my best bet to use techtool pro to recover the trashed files (if so, what do i do with them)?
or should i use the copy of the folder on the external (in that case, what do i do with it)?
i should point out, that part of my troubles were caused trying to recover extensive playlists that i lost in the first attempt.
any and all help will be appreciated.

ok, open iTunes. delete songs. change pref to point at the folder on external. drag the music folder onto the iTunes window. that right?
    that it?
if i am able to recover all files from trash, will not one of those files (iTunes Music Library.xml?) contain the playlists?
    thanks for the help.

Im sure i picked up a virus somewhere with all the programs and add on i have. where can i get a recovery disk disk from so i can retrieve my files and reinstall windows 7 to original state? Or if anyone has any ideas im open to suggestions

    Hi,
You can order a recovery kit here. Your PC shipped with Vista 64 bit.
Do you have a Win 7 install DVD?
The recovery kit will not give you access to files on your current HDD.
You may be able to retrieve important files by using Puppy Linux.
Have you entered Setup to verify your HDD is recognized in the BIOS? Your HDD may have failed.

  • Hard Drive Failure on HP DV 6000 Pavilion laptop Windows-XPsp3 OS - Need Data Recovery Help

Hard Drive Failure on HP DV 6000 Pavilion laptop - Need Data Recovery Help
HP Pavilion DV 6108 NR, RG365UA, purchased in late 2006 at Best Buy, with Windows XP, upgraded to Service Pack 3. It has a Fujitsu hard disk, 60 gigabyte, partitioned into C: and a Recovery D:.
Windows tries to boot up, but goes to blue screen with the message: "Unmountable Boot Volume" for one second, then just keeps recycling until I force a shutdown.
BIOS Phoenix, hard drive test result: " #1-08 Fail "
I ran a disk analysis/recovery program on the Cdrive and it seemed to show the directory structure intact, and it was able to recover some files. I was using the free one from Seagate (which only recovers small files). The second pass didn't run so well, and during the third run the program said I should not proceed further, and I should contact a professional disk recovery company.
However, the D drive seems to be intact, so, I wonder if the disk is corrupted or just some aspect of the logical C drive is bad.
How can I get the D: to run the recovery software on it? The recovery disks, made by Best Buy, only proceed to the R / F / Q option screen, and when I press R, I get a blue screen every time.
Tapping the F10 key during startup gets me nowhere. Ditto the F11 key.
I dont care about the hard disk; it is the data (files, docs, images, etc)  that I want.
I contacted HP to order recovery disks but they are no longer available for my computer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Update...
I found a website that offers the following:
    http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-13442-recovery-kit-435422-001-for-hp-model-number-dv6108nr.aspx
Recovery Kit 435422-001 For HP Model Number dv6108nr
    Price: $27.00
Recovery Kit Set (An Entire Image of the Computer hard drive when the computer was new)
But I wonder how useful it would be. Early XP , no doubt. And if my hard disk problem is a mechanical fault, would any recovery disk even work? The disks made by Best Buy when I bought mine new in 2006 don't do anything more than go to the R /F/ Q screen and then goes to a blue screen when I press R (to recover the OS and apps and data files). And, as I wrote, it is the data that I want, not the disk drive.

I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon for a wedding reception!

What version of iPhoto are you using?  How do you plan to view the slideshow at the wedding reception, on a TV screen?  If so then you will need to send the slideshow to iDVD and burn a disk from there.
If you're in iPhoto 11 and the slideshow was created in the slideshow mode and not from an album, then go to the Share menu and select iDVD.  That will create a QT movie of the slideshow and import it into iDVD.
In iDVD select your theme and setup the menu as you'd like.  If you want the movie to begin plahying immediately when the disk is inserted into the DVD player go into the Gallery mode and drag the movie into the Autostart  bin at the left.
If you want the movie to loop continuously go to the Advanced menu and select Loop.
When you're finished setting upb the iDVD project save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will allow you to check it with DVD Player before tryingto burn to disk.  Mount the disk imnage by double clicking on it and launch DVD Player and play.  If the movie plays as you want and everything is good you can  burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • IPhoto '08 Experts apply within (HELP NEEDED!)

OK, after installing Leopard which I had difficulty with BSOD and other issues, my iPhoto is corrupt. When I try to create a new book I can not select the book type, all options are greyed out. When trying to modify a page layout in an existing book all options are greyed out. When trying to change a theme in an existing book all options are greyed out. Spoke with Apple for over three hours last night, completely uninstalled iPhoto and reinstalled with no success. Did an Archive & Install of Leopard again to no success, have done several permission and disk fixes with no success. At this point I'm looking for any and all options so that I don't have to wipe the disk clean and begin again.
If I were to make an appointment with a Mac Genius (something I've never done) can I take my iMac in and have them trouble shoot the issue with me at the store?
Thanks in advance, I'll mail a six pack to anyone that can help.
    Jason

Before you reinstall iPhoto you'll need to delete the following folders/files:
    HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto/Themes
    iPhoto application
All files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Picasa to iPhoto - help needed with folders/importing

I am converting over from Picasa on windows to iPhoto on a new iMac I recently bought. And I have to say, the conversion has not been as smooth as I thought it would be. Any help will be appreciated highly
    1. In Picasa, I was able to see my underlying folder structure. At the same time I was able to arrange pictures from multiple folders into albums which became the metadata container.
Question: Is there a way to easily see the folder structure of the underlying file system rather than have the iPhoto library which seems to show simply in terms of years.
    2. From other posts on the discussion board it seems like I can simply drag the folder from Finder to the source section of iPhoto to somewhat mimic what I described in #1 above. If that is the only option, I have the next question, and that is -
Question: If I drag and drop a folder from Finder to the source section of iPhoto why does iPhoto not bring everything in as "Originals". I see that some of my pictures go into the corresponding "Modified" folder. It seems like there is an internal "modification" that is done at the time of import which I am unable to check on/off.
Question: Also, in the same method, I see that the picture got duplicated on the file system - once appearing in the original folder which I dragged from the Finder, and the second time showing up under Originals or Modified folders within the iPhoto library folder under Pictures.
How do I elimiate this duplication? Can I eliminate it and keep the "file system folder structure" available?
    Thanks in advance!

    TD,
Thanks for the excellent explanation of the application and how it differs from what I have been used to doing. Without going into too much details, I would like to say that Picasa may be a file organizer, but it does allow me a concept of "albums" which is virtual and when I choose to put the same picture in multiple albums, it does not make a new copy each time.
But I am not here to compare Picasa with iPhoto, only here to see how to do things in iPhoto the same or better way.
Rolls, on the other hand) in the iPhoto Window (View
-> Film Rolls) correspond exactly with the Roll
Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library
Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can
rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you
do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane
(wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are
editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the
Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will
    also have the new name.
So, rolls are in fact "real" and not virtual concepts right? I would actually be moving the files from one roll to another underneath when I move a picture in iPhoto from one roll to another. Is that the correct understanding I have?
And, then FYI: A Note about the iPhoto Library
    Folder:
In this folder there are various files, which are the
Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you
    have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were
downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that
you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command
    - very useful if you don't like the changes you've
    made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app
needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
Very cool. That makes sense, and I did read about this folder structure in some other posts which is very helpful to get started.
If I drag and drop a folder from Finder to the
source section of iPhoto why does iPhoto not bring
everything in as "Originals". I see that some of my
pictures go into the corresponding "Modified" folder.
It seems like there is an internal "modification"
that is done at the time of import which I am unable
    to check on/off.
Your camera has an Auto Rotate feature, right? What
happens there is that your camera doesn't rotate the
pics, it simply puts a flag on them "Display Me This
Way". Part of the core philosophy of iPhoto is to
leave your original file untouched, so it creates a
modified version, showing the rotation. How to stop
it? Turn off auto-rotate or rotate the pics before
    they come into iPhoto.
Excellent point. I will change that setting on the camera. Of course for all the pictures I have downloaded already, I suppose there is no way to change the rotation settings, right?
Also, in the same method, I see that the picture
got duplicated on the file system - once appearing in
the original folder which I dragged from the Finder,
and the second time showing up under Originals or
Modified folders within the iPhoto library folder
    under Pictures.
How do I elimiate this duplication? Can I eliminate
it and keep the "file system folder structure"
    available?
Trash your Original file structure. Let iPhoto do the
file management. Freaky, right? Well don't do it
right away, leave it until you feel confident in
iPhoto, until you feel that you can trust the
    application.
The other alternative is to not copy the files into
the iPhoto Library Folder (You can change this at
iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced). The down side is
that iPhoto will still create the modified and data
folders, when you delete from iPhoto you'll need to
track down the individual pic yourself to delete it
from the HD and things like migrating the library to
an external HD or a new machine can be trickier.
Ok, now that I understand the application a little better, I see that the original files and folder structure is not useful at all.
But unfortunately, I would like to keep the folder structure on my external hard drive so that if I log into windows on bootcamp, I could use Picasa to access the same set of pictures. I currently have an automator action (backup folder/sync folder) which takes all the contents of Pictures folder and replicates it to the external drive. Then when I log in from Picasa, I have set the option to only scan the external drive.
If I trash the original structure and simply sync the iPhoto Library folder, and then access it through Picasa, will there be any problems if Picasa drops some of its "database type" files (I know for sure it drops a Picasa.ini)?
If I do not move any files from one folder to another, is it ok to let Picasa access the iPhoto Library folder?
Most people who want to keep their own structure do
so because they're afraid they won't be able to find
the picture files: There are three ways (at least) to
get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto
Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a
    full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the
iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue
will give you various options, including altering the
format, naming the files and changing the size.
    Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a
pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'.
A Finder window will pop open with the file already
    selected.
Thanks very much again for the detailed explanation. I really appreciate it.
And, as I said above, Rolls have a direct
correspondence with the iPhoto Library Folder.
And I suppose if rolls are "real" then the virtual equivalents would be things like smart folders?
