Iphoto refusing to completely load

Once i opened my iphoto it claims to be loading but none of my photos ever show up. I don't know how to reboot it, I have quit it and shut down my computer several times, everthing else pulls up just fine, but Iphoto just refuses to load completely. Any ideas on how i can fix this?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

when I click iPhoto it attempts to load photos but never completes task therebye rendering it useless.  I have around 3000 pics in there.!!  help!!

    Have you repaired Permissions?
Not sure about the problem, but try this.
In the Finder, go to Yourcomputername>Library>Preferences and trash the file com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Then see if iPhoto will open.
If not, boot in Safe Mode? See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 Takes a while to run, but it usually "fixes" problems.

  • I'm running iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. My collection of 25,000  photos on iPhoto library is completely empty. How can I get them back?

I'm running iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. My collection of 25,000  photos on iPhoto library is completely empty. How can I get them back?
I dragged one photo to the My Pictures folder in Finder. I knew it was just one photo because it was the only one highlighted in yellow. When I saw it in Finder, it was labled iPhoto. I thought it was the wrong picture, so in Finder I deleted the file. When I got back to iPhoto, EVERYTHING was missing. Events, photos, recent, and even trash. At this point, I went into my Trash. I searched for iPhoto and iPhoto was there. I opened it and it was still empty. All I want to do is to get my collection of photos back!

Best solution is to load your backup from before you did this?
Where did you drag the photo from?
Have you tried dragging it from the trash to the desktop?  What size is it?
What size is your iPhoto library in the pictures folder?

  • IPhoto Library won't load

    Dear wise friends,
I was careless and started dragging photos from my iPhoto Albums folder, which is inside the iPhoto Library folder, which is inside the Pictures folder under my user name on the Hard drive.
I didn't notice until after I dragged a couple of photos that is was moving the photos out of the original album folder and into the folder I created on the desktop. It was my hope to just copy and paste the photos-not completely remove them from their original Album folder.
However, this has now completely debilitated my iPhoto Application. When I try to start iPhoto, the library never loads. I can see the outline of the iPhoto (4.0.3) application on the screen, but it continuously says "Loading Photos" without ever loading.
iPhoto help and online support both say: +*"Important: If you move, delete, rename, or change files or folders in the iPhoto Library folder, you may be unable to see your pictures in iPhoto."*+
BUT no where do they tell you what to do if you do not obey this rule. How do I fix this mistake so iPhoto will open and show my library? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall? Do I need to bite the bullet and upgrade to the newest version of iPhoto/iLife?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi, lane, and welcome to Apple Discussions. You need to rebuild your library. Hold down the Shift and Option keys while starting iPhoto. Keep holding them down until you're asked whether you want to rebuild the library. Click Yes, then click Save.
This will create a brand new iPhoto Library_1 folder alongside your original iPhoto Library folder. The pictures you moved out of the original library may (depending on exactly where you pulled them from) be missing from it; in that case you'll need to reimport them from wherever you moved them to, and then reassign them to the albums you want them in. Once you're satisfied that all is well with the new library, trash the old library folder to regain the disk space it occupies. If the new library doesn't open properly or contain what you expect it to, trash it instead of the original library and post back for further advice.
Because the rebuilding process creates an entirely new library folder the same size as the original, you must have adequate hard drive space for that before you begin. And unless your hard drive is really tiny (10GB or smaller), you should always keep at least 5GB of available space on it in addition to everything that's stored on it, even while both library folders are present. The operating system needs those 5GB of space for temporary files and "elbow room" at all times.

  • When I attempt to open iphoto, I get the loading icon in the working space/picture area.  If I try to reinstall ilife '11, will I lose any pictures?  Where, on the hard drive, are all my pictures actually stored?

You won't lose anything because you have a back up, right?
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

My iphoto will not load, all it does when i open it is just show a blank iphoto and won't load any of my photos that were already in there. Any way to fix it ?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Why doesn't my iPhoto 9.1.5 load?

I'm afraid I may have accidentally deleted a file for iPhoto, it will not load. I tried to buy iPhoto on the App Store but I got a message saying that it was already installed. My question is what are the possible names of files for iPhoto that may have been deleted? Also, if you can't answer that question, how can I uninstall iPhoto so that I can buy it on the App Store? Thanks for you help!

There are literally hndres of files you might delete that could prevent iPhoto from opening.
Have you an application called 'iPhoto' in your Applications folder?
If you have trashed iPhoto inadvertently then you don't need to buy it again.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Detecting complete loading of document in IE

I'm opening a pdf document in IE.
I would like to have a feedback to me when the pdf has finish loading completely.
Does anyone know that after IE has ask pdf plugin to handle the document, would the plugin have some feedback to the browser to signal that it has completely loaded the document?
I'm told that this is a plugin-specific issue.

    Hi all,
    1) I would like to detect whether the java-plugin of the internet explorer is enabled (i.e., Scripting Of java Applets is activated or not) using Java Script.
Within firefox this could be easily done using the Java-Script "navigator.javaEnabled" method.
Unfortunately, this method does not work in IE.
Moreover, I tried the "pinlady" detection (http://www.pinlady.net/PluginDetect/) as well as the "deployJava.js" (http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/applet/applet_deployment.html) "libraries". Both "libraries" failed to determine the activation status of the Java plugin correctly for IE.
I can not believe, that there is no way to detect the activation status of a Java plugin within IE correctly ...
    2) Moreover, I analyzed that within Internet Explorer (IE) an applet starts (i.e., the init() & start-methods are invoked) even if the Java plugin is disabled / deactivated. In my opinion, this is not a desired application behavior. For example, using Firefox the applet does not start when the Java plugin is diabled.
Can anybody explain this behavior or give me some more information?
    I really appreciate your help!!!
    Kind regards,
    tbeer

When I Load a Movie or New Movie it doesn't completely Load. So When I click the iMovie HD Icon on My little Bar thing. The screen comes up and the blue bar Only Goes to the Middle and stops. It says to wait a few minutes, But I have waited 7 hours and more everyday. Please Help. I Love to make Movies, and I'd hate for my passion to Stop.
Mac OS X   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   iMovie HD 6

    Hi Mandi
Two thoughts. Your Mac is struggeling about how to get organized.
    - free space on internal hard disk should read more than 10Gb and even
    rather like 25GB
    - The hard disk that You store Your movie on can be in wrong format
∆ is it formatted OK (if only one = internal it's most probably OK)
∆ external hard disks MUST BE - Mac OS Extended formatted to work
    • DOS/UNIX/Mac Exchange - won't do !
    - The hard disk can be untidy:
∆ Run: Repair Permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
∆ Run: Repair Hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool) (You need to start from CD/DVD
    or externa hard disk)
∆ AND - delete iMovie pref file (or start a new account / log into this and re-try.
(will do the same but it discards even more eventually faulty files)

If you use extensions like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Flashblock</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.<br />
You can see the installed Firefox extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions".
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • ImageIcon doesn't completely load image, occasionaly :(

I am using an ImageIcon to display thumnails. Everything seems to work just great, except occasionally the image has a large black area where it appears to have not loaded completely. The images are JPEGs. If I refresh the image, nothing changes, which is why I think it doesn't load.
I've added a pop-up menu to reload the image, which seems to work, except when the reload doesn't seem to load the image either. Continued reloading will eventually get the image, but I am using an ImageIcon because I thought the ImageIcon constructor would not return until the image was completely loaded.
Now, if it is completely loaded, but is not displaying properly, what could be wrong that the image is corrupted, since it will eventually load on the next try or one in the future?
Has anyone else had this kind of trouble?
I'm using JDK 1.3.1 and developing on Windows.

I've just had a similar problem. See if this hepls.

  • Iphoto distortion(elongated) after loading OS X 10.4.3

Why are all of the photos in my iphoto library distorted after loading OS X 10.4.3? Is there a way to return these photos to their original appearance? Please help me!Thanks.

It seems as though everything on the screen is elongated.
    Not just my iphotos.
You know, your original problem statement gave no such indication. An accurate discription of the problem is more likely to lead to a resolution.
If everything on your screen (not just iPhoto images) seems elongated, why do you think the problem is related to iPhoto?
Have you checked your Displays panel in the System Preferences to see if there might be some unusual resolution setting? Did someone monkey with the geometry controls?
