IPhoto reinstall loop..

Day before yesterday, I got caught up in the Thunderbolt Update 1.2 problem. It seems we're not quite through that yet... I restored by reinstalling OS X 10.7.4 Combo Updater. Now iPhoto won't come up. I've tried deep-sixing the application and re-installing from the iLife 2011 CD/DVD. It seems to go out and grab 9.3 which I'm sure wasn't on the original media. When I try to launch iPhoto it says, "In order to open iPhoto.app, you need to update to the latest version. Please run Software Update to install it now." When I click on Software Update and run it, it seems the computer thinks everything is current. So it doesn't appear that there's a ready-solution to this. I have backed up my iPhoto library...now, how to get the application working again...?

Sounds like a damage/corrupted library.  So make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Iphoto reinstall problems

Hi, after numerous problems with "Mavericks" I have ditched it and returned to "Mountain Lion" however, whilst I have been able to rescue "pages", "numbers" etc, I am unable to return to the "mountain lion" version of iphoto. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to reinstall an older version of iphoto - one that will operate with Mountain Lion?

Restore the iPhoto app from your last Time Machine backup from before the upgrade to iPhoto. You cannot download a full version of iPhoto '11 from Apple's Support pages or the App Store, if you already upgraded to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1.
How did you originally buy iPhoto? If it came preinstalled with an older system (MacOS 10.6), then you will find an iPhoto '11 installer on your system install media with the bundled application. If you bought an iLife '11 installer, use that.
Other than that, your only option would be to buy iPhoto again ( aniLIfte '11 install DVD) or solve the issues with Mavericks on your system and use the iPhoto 9.5.1 you have.

  • HT5037 iPhoto eternal loop.

When I open iPhoto, it says my Library needs to be prepared using iPhoto Library Upgrader. When I then go into iPhoto Library Upgrader, it says my photos have been edited using a newer version of iPhoto, and that I need to quit iPhoto Library Upgrader and use iPhoto. I can't get into access any of my photos - this is so frustrating!!! When the error messages come up, the ONLY option I have is to quit.
Can someone please explain to me how to get around this eternal loop I seem to be stuck in?

Katherine, have you currently upgraded iPhoto to a newer version? Or restored an older iPhoto Library?
We need to know more, to be able to help:
What exactly happened or did you do, before you could no longer open your iPhoto library?
How has your iPhoto library been created? By what version of iPhoto?
And what is your current version of the iPhoto application?
The only thingI can tell from your post is that you have a mismatch between the versions of iPhoto and of your library. That can have several reasons - a recent update of iPhoto, or duplicate iPhoto applications, duplicate iPhoto libraries.

  • Reinstall loop

My Toshiba A305 64 bit displayed "No Bootable Device - Insert boot disk and press any key" so my husband decided to do a clean install of Windows 7. Laptop originally ran Vista and was upgraded via download to Windows 7 professional. At 77% screen showed that there was not enough memory left to complete installation of windows 7. Now it is stuck in a loop.. it will not revert and it keeps trying to run set up and ends with " The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click OK  to restart computer and then restart the installation"  How can I get it out of this loop?
I have the vista recovery discs I got from Toshiba so hubby changed the hard drive but when we try to boot it with the recovery disk it does not recognize it. It displays...
    "intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (BUILD 082)

    pxe-E61:media test failure check cable
    pxe-MoF:exiting pxe rom
no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key"
I have backup of all info on the laptop so do not care about wiping it clean..Please any suggestion? Love this laptop but it is out of warranty.

  • Switching Users. Have to uninstall and reinstall loops and sounds etc?

I'm using Garageband 3 on a 2.16 Ghz iMac 24" which I recently took over from my wife. (Convinced her she didn't need it. I had been using it under her user User Account, but now that I'm using it all the time I set up my own account. Garageband still loads, but a bunch of the songs I was working on couldn't find their loops, etc. When I opened the loop browser I realized all the various extra jampacks, and 3rd parts sounds and loops I'd installed are not being seen by Garageband.
Do I need to uninstall and reinstall them to make it work properly? Or is there a simple way to have them in the right place in my User Account?
    Thanks!

When keeping loops on an external, can they be kept anywhere?
    Yes.
And do you set a place for loops to be installed in Garageband, the way you set a place in iTunes for it's library to be located and for new imported or puchased music to be located?
    No.
If not, do you just intall new instruments/loops etc. and then move the files it creates to the external?
No. Just move the Loops where you want them, and then delete your Index files, and re-index them (Hang's link).
And how do you know if you got them all?
Do a search for "Apple Loops". These are the folders where your Loops are.

  • HT2638 I tried absolutely every trick, from reinstalling Mountain lion and iPhoto to buying iPhoto library Manager. NOTHING worked

Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup.
I went through all the repair/rebuild options when pressing cmd/optn and pressing the iphoto icon
I reinstralled Mountain Lion, ran software update, reinsalled Iphoto and ran software update,
I restored old copies of the iphoto library from Time Machine.
I bought Iphoto Library Manager and tried to retrieved and/or rebuild the library
ABSOLUTELY nothing worked and I still get this error message.
I went to the Apple store in Geneva and they told me that deleting Iphoto, reinstalling it and running software update will fix it. It didn't
Can anyone please help or shed some light on what could be wrong ?
OSX 10.8.2 and Iphoto 9.4.2 on Mac Pro 15 in

Library Manager opens the Iphoto Library and I can see all of the photos, about 12,500 of them. But when I open Iphoto afterwards, I get the error message again "Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup."
I tried to create a new Iphoto Library using Library Manager, but LM was unable to create one as it needed to access Iphoto back and forth and Iphoto would not allow it access because of the error, therefore LM was unable to create a new clean library.
After opening the iphoto LIbrary within the Library Manager, I opened Iphoto and tried to repair/rebuild etc.. without success.
The problem first occured after I upgraded my Iphone to IO6.02 then I transferred my Iphone photos to Iphotos. I alo synced the Iphone with itunes.
Thank you for looking into this on Christmas day !!!!

  • I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display.

I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display. i have never seen this message before and i have 2 other macbooks and have had many other also. i am assuming this is a problem with the new macbook retina. does anyone know the exact fix to this issue? i have seen many sugestions to try to fix this issue but none have solved the issue for anyone that i can find in the Apple Support Community. thank for looking into this in advance.
    ******A true apple fan********

Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.

  • Trouble with loops

so i took my laptop in to get repaired a while ago, and they told me they would have to send it back to the factory to repair it. so i did, and when it got back i realized they deleted a lot of stuff off of my computer, including all of my loops. so when i turn the loop browser on, it says "please reinstall loops". I've tried everything that people have told me, and looked for the loop package on the website... but i can't figure it out.

  • IPhoto 11 Share to Facebook is Broken

Since last week, every time I try to share anything with Facebook I get a blank album even though iPhoto goes through the full upload process. I have tried the following:
Remove iPhoto app settings from Facebook
    Remove Facebook account from iPhoto
    Restart Everything
    Uninstall iPhoto
    Reinstall iPhoto
    Restart Everything
    Re-Add Facebook account to iPhoto
Upload photo from a new event
    Trashed preference plists from library
    Trashed plugins from Application Support
I can upload to Google+ with no problems so is this Facebook's issue?

Yes. Don't use iPhoto to upload. This is a syncing operation, and as you see, changes made on your mac are reflected on Facebook. So use Facebook's own uploader or any other method you choose.

  • Can't find Iphoto after HD Crash

Kernal panics caused me to rebuild my IMAC. I installed my most recent disk of Tiger 10.4l. I can't find my Iphoto application. When i use my software reinstall disks the system does not recognize disk one. How do I go about getting Iphoto reinstalled. Any help that will allow me to avoid rewriting the HD (again)back to 0SX and then upgrade to tiger would be appreciated.
FYI I backed up all media files so I have photo's just cant find the Application to support them.
    Thanks in advance.

The iPhoto installer (along with other apps) will be on the iLife DVD.
It is not installed as part of Tiger.

  • IPhoto has a question mark over it. Wont open! Help?

iPhoto has a question mark over it. Wont open! It is completely inaccessible. How can i restore this to my computer and get my pics back?

iPhoto has a question mark over it.
You mean in the Dock?  Then the Dock icon is no longer linked to the application.
Did you upgrade MacOS X, so iPhoto is no longer compatible?
If you moved or deleted iPhoto, reinstall it. It will depend on your iPhoto version and MacOS X version, how to reinstall.
If your profile signature ""OS X (10.6.8)" is still valid, reinstall iPhoto from your system install disks, if iPhoto came preinstalled on your Mac, or from your iLife install disks.
If you already upgraded to Yosemite, you can reinstall iPhoto from the App Store.

  • I have a mac running iPhoto, please advise when I copy the photo to add to a document while creating a pictorial when it is pasted it turns black, I have tried many different methods to over come the issue but unsuccessful

My 6 month old Mac is using iPhoto. Please advise when I copy the photo from iPhoto to add to a word document while creating a pictorial artical as soon as it  is pasted the picture it turns black, I have tried many different methods to over come the issue but unsuccessful. In the past the iPhoo was default for direct download from a card, This I have now changed but in the meantime there are photographs that I need to use. I understand window completly but still on the nursery steps with Mac.
    Please advise Heather

As I said before I am reluctanct to delete and reinstall the iPhoto as I only have the one copy of the file i am using stored in iphoto file and I caint loose them.
All storage hardware and all computers will fail.  Volumes will get corrupted.  Mistakes will happen.
Please learn from our past mistakes and from our past data losses: please have and keep regular backups.
Either via Time Machine (which is marvelously transparent, and very easy), or backups created via some other mechanisms and tools.  Old Toad recommends an external disk, and that's very effective.  If this is a portable Mac, then Time Capsule devices are also very handy, as you don't have to remember to connect the backup device; so long as the Mac is within wireless range of the Time Capsule, backups will happen.
Time Machine backups can also be used to replace your files or even to upgrade to a new Mac, should your computer be lost or stolen, or should your computer or your storage fail.
If you have not already seen these, Mac Basics and Find Out How could be interesting.
As for your photos...   I wouldn't expect this to be iPhoto and wouldn't go for an iPhoto reinstall as the first step, I'd tend to wonder if this is a bug or feature in Microsoft Word, or possibly a format incompatibility with what Office supports.  iPhoto organizes and edits the photos that are stored in your ~/Pictures media directory.  Try using iWork (if you have that) or some other tool (Apple Mail) that accepts and processes photos, and see if you can localize the problem.  Depending on the image formats used, also see if exporting the picture from iWork into a jpeg-format picture — something other than the image format you're currently using with the Microsoft Office imports — works.  (FWIW, I use iWork for reading and writing Microsoft Office documents as well as Pages and Keynote files, and have been using iPhoto with those and other tools for many years, and haven't encountered these blacked-out images.)

  • Iphoto wont play movie files and wont double click for zoom or edit

Hi i bought my first ever macbook a week ago, love everything on it,iphoto worked well but today i wanted to show someone a movie file on my camea which i have in my iphoto libray clicked on it and it usually opens, today nothing!!! this file has opened loads before because its a holiday movie, loads of people have seen it but now nothing.
Also my double click to zoom or edit preference seems to do nothing whichever box you check in preffence nothing happens.
Being new to mac i hope i can find some answers!!
    Chris

    Chris:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First Control+click on the movie's thumbnail and select Show File from the contextual menu. When you get to the original movie file double click on it to see if you can open it in Quicktime. If not then it's more a QT issue. If it opens OK in QT go to the next procedure.
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again. If iPhoto is still misbehaving log into another account and try the same operations in iPhoto there. If still not working you may have to reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came one. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. After you get iPhoto reinstalled run the latest update for it, 7.1.3 if needed.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
