Iphoto reinstall problems

Hi, after numerous problems with "Mavericks" I have ditched it and returned to "Mountain Lion" however, whilst I have been able to rescue "pages", "numbers" etc, I am unable to return to the "mountain lion" version of iphoto. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to reinstall an older version of iphoto - one that will operate with Mountain Lion?

Restore the iPhoto app from your last Time Machine backup from before the upgrade to iPhoto. You cannot download a full version of iPhoto '11 from Apple's Support pages or the App Store, if you already upgraded to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1.
How did you originally buy iPhoto? If it came preinstalled with an older system (MacOS 10.6), then you will find an iPhoto '11 installer on your system install media with the bundled application. If you bought an iLife '11 installer, use that.
Other than that, your only option would be to buy iPhoto again ( aniLIfte '11 install DVD) or solve the issues with Mavericks on your system and use the iPhoto 9.5.1 you have.

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • Iphoto slow problem - photos are organised in folders not film rolls

I'm suffering from the iphoto slow problem and have been trying to find a way to stop iphoto from loading all the photos every time.
My photos are arranged in folders, so I don't seem to have the option to stop the photos being loaded by film roll.
Does anyone have any other ideas ?

I'm not sure what that means. Whether you have albums or not, iPhoto still considers a single import batch as a roll. If the rolls are not collapsed, then everytime you launch iPhoto, it assumes you want to be able to see your entire library, and it goes about the job of making all the thumbnails available.

  • Iphoto 6 problems

    Hi All,
I'm having an issue with iphoto (6) and I have tried all possible solutions (I think) but I cannot fix the problem. After not using iphoto for about a month, I tried to upload some pictures from my digital camera and I received the following message. "An error occurred while trying to save your photo library, some recent changes may be lost. Make sure your hard disk has enough space and that iPhoto is able to access the iPhoto Library folder". I have attempted to move the location of the iPhoto folder, but have been unsuccessful. I have also tried reinstalling iphoto with my Master disks, but this has not helped either. Last but not least, the pictures are now locked and I cannot delete them to try anew.. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    1. How much free space on that HD?
    2. Assuming there is enough: try Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • IPhoto running problems

I lost the capability of opening my photo's and uploading photos from my iPhone. Not sure what happened. Either way, I eventually deleted my 6.06 version and upgraded to iPhoto 08. But still the same problem. It brings up the main screen, but searches for photos...never finding them. Keep in mind, I cannot upload pics from my iphone either. I deleting com.apple.iphoto.plist and even changed user info, but still the same thing. Aslo tried the apple/option buttons to no luck. Should I be reinstalling my recovery disks that came with my comp? Im willing to, but dont have a way to back up my files, and am worried they will disappear. Any help would greatly be appriciated! Thanks

Boot into Safe Mode and see if you can get iPhoto to open. If it does then there's something amiss with your account. If it still doesn't open a reinstall of iPhoto seems warranted.

  • IPhoto delete  problem

To quote Charlie Brown, "ARRRGGGHHH!!!" Now that I have that off my chest. I, too, am experiencing a problem deleting images from iPhoto 5. Like the proverbial bad penny, they keep coming back. Whenever I move images from the iPhoto main library to the iPhoto trash and select "empty" iPhoto crashes and will only respond to "force quit." I have left the pastel pizza spinning for hours. Only force quit will stop the show. I tried selecting individual images and using control, option, delete. The images do disappear from the library and the total count (now at 11,754) is reduced by the number of images selected. When I close iPhoto and then reopen it, the images are back. I tried deleting images and thumbnails from the iPhoto folder in "pictures" only to have those show up as empty rectangles in the iPhoto library. If I click on one of the empty rectangles I get all the usual information concerning the missing image in the iPhoto menu box but no image. I have tried everything I can think off short of reinstalling iPhoto. I would do this but some of the images cannot be replaced and, since the images in the various sub-libraries were taken over extended periods of time and share DSC numbers, my iPhoto will not export them to any other location or back up device. I am prompted that the duplicate numbers are "busy." My question is: Am I missing something basic, some magic bullet that will allow me to restore function to iPhoto while retaining the desired images or must I have a supreme zen moment of non attachment and start anew?

This is a cardinal sin in iPhoto (or in any database program) - by doing this you have corrupted your library - you should never modify the contents of the iPhoto library directly - only via the iPhoto program
You can try rebuilding your library using iPhoto and if that does not work using iPhoto library manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - but probably you are going to have to start over
Reinstalling iPhoto will not help because you have corrupted the data - the program is fine
If rebuilding does not work, you need to go to a backup before you corrupted your library or you need to start a new iPhoto library as follows - quit iPhoto, drag the existing iPhoto library to the desktop, restart iPhoto with a new, empty library and drag the originals folder from the iPhoto library on the desktop to the iphoto icon in the Dock - this will import all of the original photos form your old library (not the modifications, albums, folders or projects)
In the future never modify anything in the iphoto library and do not try to delete more than a small number (say 100 ) photos at a time
    Good Luck

  • Iphoto/Mavericks problem

I have been having major problems with iPhoto since upgrading to Mavericks. I can't upgrade to the latest iphoto as I keep being told my Apple ID is not recognised. Howvever, It has been OK for other upgrades I have made over the last 30 days. I was told to delete the iPhoto App from my powerbook and reinstall it via the App Store. But it now seems I have to buy Iphoto from the App store. Does anyone have any idea how I can get round this?

Unless you bought some vender's really old Mac stock, a new Mac bought 12 months ago wouldn't have come with Snow Leopard as the shipping install of OS X.
A Mac that shipped with Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks requires that the user sign into their account in the Mac App Store, go to the Purchases pane and accept the pre-installed iLife apps into their account before using any of the three apps. If the user does not do this, then as per the user agreement on the apps, the iLife apps become one-time as-is apps that cannot be updated or installed on other Macs that you may own or control. As well as, future versions not able to be purchased on the Mac.
Now, if you did get an older Mac with Snow Leopard, then none of that applies and you may need to buy the most recent version of the apps if you want to upgrade.
Did your Mac come with Snow Leopard DVD install disks?
Go to the Apple menu, choose About This Mac. Then choose More Info. What is your Mac's listed year and model?

  • IPhoto printing problem in Leopard

    Hello all,
I recently upgraded to OS 10.5 and since then, when attempting to print a photo from iPhoto, once the print button is selected, the next page that is supposed to bring up the picture on the screen that shows the picture on the page and allows you to select "Standard, Contact Sheet, etc" is BLANK. I am running this on a MacBook Pro and prior to Leopard i had no issues. I have the latest printer driver and my other programs print without any issues. What has the upgrade done to iPhoto and how do i fix this? I've also reinstalled the OS 10.5 software.
    Thanks for any guidance.
    Jon

    Hi Terence,
Thanks for your advice. I have taken the steps you suggested...including creating a new account with some imported pictures and the problem remains. So...next is app reinstall. I did this by trashing the application in the Applications folder and then reinstalling from the iLife 08 disk. This did not change the problem, so i wondered if there was more to delete than just the application icon in order to do a proper reinstall of the application? If that should have worked, then the problem remains and thus far i've also been on the Apple Support line being shifted to and from various people who aren't able to solve the problem now for the last 3 hrs and 26 mins.... Hope your day is going better!
Any other advice, i'm all ears!
    Thanks again, Jon

  • Iphoto printing problems!!

    Hi,
I recently re-installed to Leopard and when I go to Iphoto to print i get the following message:
"no available themes: There were no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed, this feature will be unavailable. There were no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed, this feature will be unavailable."
Never seen this before, what is it? how do I solve it ?
    Thank you
    DC

    DC:
It looks like you'll have to reinstall iPhoto from the disks that it came on, probably the system install disks that came with your computer. Here's what you'll have to do:
1 - delete the current application.
2 - delete any files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in your HD/Library/Receipts folder.
3 - delete the Themes folder from your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder.
Also look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there then delete it also.
5 - boot into the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
After installing reinstall the iPhoto 7.1.1 updater again followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime, 7.3.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto reinstall loop..

Day before yesterday, I got caught up in the Thunderbolt Update 1.2 problem. It seems we're not quite through that yet... I restored by reinstalling OS X 10.7.4 Combo Updater. Now iPhoto won't come up. I've tried deep-sixing the application and re-installing from the iLife 2011 CD/DVD. It seems to go out and grab 9.3 which I'm sure wasn't on the original media. When I try to launch iPhoto it says, "In order to open iPhoto.app, you need to update to the latest version. Please run Software Update to install it now." When I click on Software Update and run it, it seems the computer thinks everything is current. So it doesn't appear that there's a ready-solution to this. I have backed up my iPhoto library...now, how to get the application working again...?

Sounds like a damage/corrupted library.  So make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Facebook exporter for iPhoto 11 problem!

I previously had installed the Facebook exporter for iPhoto and it worked fine. It always showed up as a tab in File Export. Now with Iphoto 11 the tab for facebook has disappeared. I went to the download page for it again to reinstall it and when I go through the installation process and it asks where to install I have the exclamation mark on my Mac hard drive with the following error. "Facebook exporter for iPhoto can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this software already exists on this disk.
I went to plugins and removed it yet I still get this error on reinstallation. Why won't the exporter work anymore or install?
I like this much better than the built in one on iPhoto as it lets me caption each photo before I upload.

    I found the problem
It seems the version of facebook exporter found on the applesite is an older one.
I downloaded a newer version on versiontracker and that fixed it.
tha one I am using now is facebook exporter iphoto v 1.0.5
    cheers

  • URGENT iMovie, GarageBand iPhoto huge problem!!

Let me start by telling you my whole story. First of all, my MacBook has a cracked screen and is plugged into an external monitor. Recently, I tried to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard but that failed numerous times so I gave up and ejected the disc. Then, when I restarted the Mac, I received a question mark icon, so I had to reinstall my original Leopard that came with the Mac. When it was finally done, everything was fine except iChat on the dock had a question mark icon and some of my files were moved to a folder named Recovered Files. I tried to put the files back in their places, but I got a message saying I do not have sufficient privileges and could not find any help for that problem. I tried to open up iMovie, but although it opens normally, it tells me that I am missing QuickTime components, wants me to reinstall and does not play any video, just sound. It is also missing the iLife sound effects. GarageBand does not open and tells me that the instrument library is invalid. It lets me choose an instrument library folder but the message just stays there after I choose it. It also wants me to reinstall. iPhoto also does not open and just "quits unexpectedly" even after I keeps relaunching it. I have tried reinstalling the application bundle DVD, but it hasn't fixed the problem. I also cannot play certain ".mov" files because there is just a black screen with the video's sound or it says I am missing QuickTime components. I also fully updated the Mac to version 10.5.8 and updated everything else.
I am not sure if my Mac is 2006 or 2007, but the specs are: 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram. It won't let me view anything else and I am missing some things like Disk Utility or System Profiler. I don't know if I explained it too well but please answer ASAP. I have an important iMovie project to finish for tomorrow. Thanks

  • Can someone help me - OS reinstall problems.

Alright guys, I'm feeling pretty stressed about my situation right now.
    Here is what happened....
I have a 13' MBP pro that I bought at the start of 2012. It was new then.
Months ago I attempted to install Windows via Bootcamp, but it failed.
Since then, I have had to press option every time I turn on my machine and select the Macintosh HD to boot up. The choices there were Mac HD (mine), Recovery HD and the Windows Partition that was never used.
I have not been able to delete the partition where Windows was supposed to be installed. Whenever I do, it says "partition cannot be mounted". But this is not my problem. I have just lived with the extra partition and space I can't use.
Today, it turned off on me for no reason. When I pushed the power button, pushed option and slected the Mac HD to boot up, it turned off on me again. Multiple times. So I opened the recovery HD. I attempted to verify, and repair the Macintosh HD multiple times. Every time it failed, telling me to back up my stuff (which I couldn't do because it would just turn off), erase the drive and restore. I tried everything I could think of, verifying, repairing, restarting, etc. To no avail.
So, I erased the hard drive. I have no time machine backup, luckily I did not have a lot of files that weren't copied already, so erasing it was not a huge loss.
Then, I hit reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu in the Recovery HD. It tells me "to set up the installation of os x mountain lion, click continue." So I do. It verifies, and has me sign into my iTunes account.
Here's a wrench in the works: I have recently changed regions. I have moved from the US to South America (specifically Ecuador).
When I sign into my apple account via Recovery HD Utilities, it gives me the message "This Apple ID is only valid for purchases in the U. S. iTunes Store. You will be switched to that store." (I don't know what this means really). So, I hit okay. Nothing happens.
I repeat the steps to sign in, and then it gives me "This Apple ID has not purchased Lion. You must sign in with an Apple ID that was used to purchase Lion." But I have purchased Lion. I can see it in my iTunes on my GF's computer.
How do I fix this? I don't care about having lion at this point. I will take leopard, snow leopard, lion or mountain lion. I am using my girlfriends Mac (10.5.8) with no App store. I don't have any recovery disc, not even snow leopard or leopard.
Any suggestions to getting a functional OS on this machine are accepted and appreciated.
Here are my measley thoughts and/or ideas:
Make a Leopard disc (somehow?) from my GF's computer and boot up using that.
Download a disc image of one of the OS's and boot up using that.
Somehow get to a Mac with the App store on it, download my already US purchased Lion install file and either burn that to disc or thumbdrive to install on my mac.
Throw my computer out the window and never touch another PC again.
    Please help. thanks.

    Here is an update:
My problem was (among other things) was that I had purchased Lion and not Montain Lion So, I upgraded the other Mac I have access to and purchased the Mountain Lion update. I recovered via internet overnight after making the purchase.
The OS worked for about 6 or 7 hours and then it shut off on me again for no apparent reason. When I rebooted, the computer went to the Recovery OS, with what seemed like no OS installed. I repaired and rebooted pressing the option key looking for a drive with the OS installed, but there was none.
So, through internet recovery I would have waited another 6-7 hours to upgrade the system with Mountain Lion via internet. Instead of that, I made a boot disk with the other computer for Mountain Lion. I made it with an SD card. I followed the instructions carefully.
Using the boot disk I attempted to reinstall. The first few times it would just progress to somewhere near the end and then the install program would close and it would return to the Recovery Option screeen. There was no succesful install and on restart it would not show a regular Mac drive, just the recovery drive. Eventually, it told me near the end of the progress bar that "Items could not be downloaded from the internent" and it would return to the Recovery OS screen, with no succesful install.
Now, after all this, I have lost the option for internet recovery. The comuter will only go to Recovery HD when the SD card is in the slot, otherwise it flashed the Folder with the Question mark in it....or.....shows me a spinning globe that says internet recovery for a few seconds, and then flashes a yeild sign with an Exclamation point and underneath is says "Apple Error -6002F."
So I can't use the SD card to successfully install the OS, and I cannot enter the Recovery HD unless the SD card is in the slot. The Recovery HD will not allow me to choose internet recovery mode. I think this may be because if it sees a boot disk it defaults to that.
Should I try making another USB boot disk? I feel like my problem may be beyond that however, seeing as how originally it would just shut off for no reason then finally it made me reinstall the OS, and then after reinstalling doing the same thing. Would it be a RAM issue? A HD issue? Can I even tell? I cannot enter diagnostic mode either. At least not by rebooting and holding D.
    Thanks to all who read.
