Iphoto requires upgrade and won't open

Hello - I have been having trouble with my iPhoto for a  long time.  For the longest time it would say I need to upgrade, and then it would open, but now, it still asks me for an upgrade, but says it's either "in use" or not readable.

Hello there - so I am going to try my best to give you an entire view of all of my issues with iPhoto.
My Operating System: OSX Version 10.9.3
iPhoto Version 9.5.1
When I click on iPhoto App - a dialogue box pops up, "Your Photo Library Needs to be Upgraded" with options to either "quit" or "upgrade".  I always choose "upgrade" as this has been happening for a long long time, and when selecting "upgrade" - it was opening fine.   Since about 1 month or so ago, it no longer opens up after selecting "upgrade".
our photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable
Now what is happening, is a 2nd dialogue box pop ups indicating, "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable".
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup."
I have tried EVERY single option listed above at least 10 times, with no different outcome.
My iPhoto Library is on an external drive.  What other information do you require, as I really concerned about losing all my pictures.
Thank you!!

  • Downloaded itunes 11.4 upgrade and won't open at all

Hi, I have OS 10.6.8 and just upgraded to itunes 11.4 and it will not open at all.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Any solutions for this problem? Running 10.6.8 and downloaded the most recent ITunes update I had available but didn't try to run it after installing, went to run it today and now I receive the message 'You can't open the application ITunes because it is not supported on this type of Mac.' and the ITunes symbol is crossed out. Any help would be appreciated.
Also forgot to mention, the Itunes version is 11.4 and it's 10.6.8 on one of the 2008 black macbooks.

  • My iPhoto is wiped and won't open, I also can't restore it

My iphoto is wiped of all photos but I am unable to restore orphaned photos or do any other option.

Try using a different cable to charge the device - it COULD be the cable that is bad.  If that is not the case, you can likely get an out of warranty replacement for $269.00 USD in an Apple Retail store, or by calling Applecare.
    Good luck.

  • Upgraded and now cannot open iPhotos

I just updated to Maverick, but now iPhotos 9.2.3 won't open. Did I just loose all my photos? If I upgrade my iPhotos, will I be able to get them back?

    Hello K29292,
Thank you for the question, and I definitely understand your concern.  The iPhoto application and your iPhoto Library are stored in two different locations, so even if you cannot open iPhoto, your photos are still in their original location.
The version of iPhoto you are currently running is not compatible with Mavericks, but you can upgrade iPhoto to the latest version to access your photos.  Follow the steps in the article below to upgrade the iPhoto application:
iPhoto '11: Update your iPhoto software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2509
Once you update iPhoto, you should be able to access your iPhoto Library, but it is always a good idea to have a backup of your photos:
iPhoto '11: Back up your iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2504
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • HT5037 I installed the iphoto library upgrader and iphoto still will not open

I installed the iphoto library upgrader and iphoto still will not open. can anyone solve this?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • After upgrade to mavericks: time machine keeps asking for my back up disk and won't open unless i plug in the disk. any solutions?

after upgrade to mavericks: time machine keeps asking for my back up disk and won't open unless i plug in the disk. any solutions?
before the upgrade, i could open time machine without the need for having the back up disk plugged in.

Ok. I got it to work, sort of....
As I mentioned before I tried the "disk password" and the "Time capsule Password" options to see if I can start the back up again or start a new backup. Neither worked. So I tried the firmware down grade, but like you said that did not work. I then decided to try the "Account password" option and I have never used this option before becasue it states that if there is data on the drive it would not be acessable after creating an account. Since I wiped out the disk that was nno problem. When I created the new account and choose the drive it asked for the user name and password. I entered the info for the new account I just created(FYI this has nothing to do with your login username and password), bingo! It worked!
Now I have two partitions on the TC disk. The old one and now the new account. I am guessing this is to be used if I have multiple computers, which I don't.
I any case, I am going to wipe out everything again and try again to do a backup the way I had it before.

To upgrade to iPhoto '11 (version 9.x.x) you musdt purchase the upgrade in the App store - that is not a free update.

  • My Iphoto application stays on the opening loading sign stage and won't open up at all

Hi there - first time user, so please be patient ...
Does anyone know why my Iphoto won't open?  I can't figure out why it just stays on the opening loading sign stage and won't open up any more - was working previously but seems to freeze in that opening symbol stage now whenever I try to directly open it or use it through the application field to open any jpeg format.
    Cheers
    Henrie

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

iphoto 8.1.2 won't open. The error message says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
My version is Snow Leopard 10.6.8
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

Two possibilities - the message is correct or is incorrect
If you have opened your iPhoto library with a newer version of iPhoto (over a netwrok or any other way) you were warned that it would be converted and could not be used by an older version - in that case you must either upgrade, restore a backup from before you upgraded teh library or use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to "doengrade" the library
If you have not opened it with a newer version then Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library
