IPhoto resized pics?

I'm sure this has been covered but...
I import large photo files into iPhoto. When I go back and look at the photos after importing, the sixe has been reduced to 5 x 3.5 at 72dpi. Any ideas why this is happening? Can I get my full res photos back?
This is my first mac btw, and I love this thing! I nearly vomit everytime I see or (god forbid) use a PC!

Where are you finding the files to look at? If it's in the Data folder then those are the thumbnail files which are usually 360 x 240 pixels and at 72dpi would translate to 5" x 3.13". So make sure you're looking at the full sized originals that are located in the Originals folder.
Also you must got thru iPhoto to use Photoshop to edit images and have the edited version recognized by iPHoto. If you open with PS directly via the Finder you're committing the cardinal sin of iPhoto: Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder.
To use PS seamlessly with iPhoto you must go into iPhoto's General preferences section and select PS in the drop down menu for "Edit photo:". Then when you double click on a thumbnail it will open in PS for editing. But if you create a file, i.e. layered or some other PS edit, that requires you to save it as a .psd fine you must either flatten it and save as a jpg. If the edit does not require a format change then the normal edit will be satisfactory and the edited version will be saved in the Modified folder.

  • Can i resize pic in iphoto

Hi, is it possible to resize pics in iphoto? At the moment I use the email facility to do it.

What do you want to resize?
    File -> Export:
The Jpg Quality setting will impact the file size - expressed on kb or MB
The Size setting allows you to specify a target size in pixels for the Photo.

  • Possible to resize pic according to own width and height ratio?

    Hi there
Usually when resizing (or exporting) a picture, iPhoto automatically chooses an appropriate combination of width and height for us. For example, if I wanted to reduce the width to 320 pixels, iPhoto automatically updates the height to 240, making the resized pic to be 320x240.
However, I need to resize a picture to become 300x300. How can I do that? When I type in 300 for width, iPhoto keeps automatically putting the height as 225, making the picture 300x225, but I need 300x300. Is there a way to manually choose how I want to resize the pic?
    Thanks in advance.

    teriyip:
What you need to do before exporting is to crop to the size ratio, in this case square. Then you can put in 300 in one dimension field and the other will come in at 300 also. There's a square option in the Constrain menu.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Problem syncing iPhoto 6 pics to my iPod touch...it adds an extra folder

Not sure which product forum to post this on, but here I go.
I'm ending up with way too many photos on my iPod. When I sync my iPod touch in iTunes it asks for the source of pictures so I select iPhoto. Then it asks which specific albums I want to sync. I select a few of them.
When I open the photo function on the touch it shows all the specific albums I selected PLUS it adds one that it calls "Photo Library" which has a variety of my iPhoto library pics...
How can I get rid of it???

When using photoshop elements as editor in iPhoto the pic does not show up when PS opens

Ralph9430 offers a good suggestion.  But you may need to do this before taking his advice:
Check in iPhoto's Preferences (which you can open from the iPhoto menu).  Look in General, and make sure "Connecting Camera Opens" is set to "Image Capture").
If it is set to "iPhoto", you won't be able to get to Image Capture easily.

  • How do I import iPhoto 08 pics into iMovie 6?

I opened up iPhoto 08 and it indicated that all my iPhoto 6 pics would have to be imported but wouldn't be backwards compatible. When I open iMovie 6 and go to insert the iPhoto pics, none of them show up. I assumed (I know) that iPhoto wouldn't be backwards compatible WITHIN iPhoto, but it appears the pics are not backwards compatible with iMovie 6 either. Is there a fix or am I hosed?

I have iPhoto 08 and use it just fine with iMovie 6, no problem whatsoever.
Try deleting the preference files for both iPhoto and iMovie 6 and see if that helps. Close both apps first.
Go to YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist and com.apple.iMovie.plist (NOT iMovie7.plist). Drag those plist files to the trash. Reopen iPhoto, click on a couple of photos, then close it, and open iMovie. See if it works with iPhoto 8 now.
Post back if this does not work.

  • How can i resize pics for wallpaper?

can i resize pics to fit as wallpaper without it stretching?

Maybe there is a better way, but I can offer you my
Screen resolution for iPhone 4 is 640×960 and for the iPhone 5 is 640×1136
You should make a picture 640 pixels wide and of reasonable height, minding the lowest row of icons. Very high picture will be distorted.
The wallpaper can be prepared using any picture (camera, Google, etc) by resizing in your computer or with the help of special app (I use the free "SimpleResize").
If you use the computer, then send the ready picture to yourself by email, then save it to the Camera Roll.
    Use Settings>Wallpaper & Brightness>Choose Wallpaper>Photos>Camera Roll
    Good Luck

  • Iphoto automatically resizing pics

my digital camera settings have pics at dimensions 2816x2112, but whenever i import them in iphoto, they automatically get changed to 270x350. why is this happening, and what can i do to change it?

    Hi asilgreen,
What you have been looking at are the thumbnails... when you select a photo to edit it is now showing you the original, when you export, iPhoto only exports the orginal... I think you were looking at the thumbnails in finder. The exporting was a way to insure the orginal is in iPhoto and it is. You do not need to do this to all your photos, all your photos are OK, iPhoto make a smaller 'thumbnail' for viewing in your Library (and that's what you are looking at in finder window). If it helps, pick one out randomly and export, and check the size... but you needn't worry

  • Do I need to resize pics?

I'm about to upload a ton of pics to my website. I'm simply going to drag them from iPhoto to iWeb.
I got a new Cannon xti and took almost 1,000 pics on vacation. I'm probably going to put about 300 of those on the website eventually.
Each pic is about 2-4 megs in size each. I used the process multiple files in Elements 4.0 to cut them by approx 1/2 size to about 1-2 megs each.
Do I need to make a separate folder and then further resize and use more jpeg compression to make them reasonable for a website experience,
    -or-
does iWeb automatically compress/resize them so that they are optimized for the web?
Tips on managing photos would be appreciated.

    Kraftsims:
When adding photos to an iWeb photo page, they are resized to 800 x 600 pixels for the slideshow. You don't have to do any pre-resizing, iWeb does it all automatically.
If you add a photo to a non-photo page in iWeb, it's best to resize it to the exact size you want it to be displayed before hand. You can use Resize! to do that for you. Just select the pixel dimensions and 72 dpi for the resolution. When you add the photo to a page it might get resized by iWeb and have a border around it. If you want to keep the image as a jpg and not have it converted to a png file, go to the Inspector/Graphics pane and under the Stroke menu select none and turn off the shadow. Then in the Metrics pane of the Inspector click on the Original Size button.
If you add a border and shadow or resize the photo in iWeb it will be converted to a png file for uploading and display. Some PCs with older broswers may have trouble with that type of file. To check out how PCs might see the site go to http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/ and past your site's url into the space provided. It will then show you how it may be seen by the PC with different browsers.

  • IPhoto resized images automatically

We just noticed that some older folders "events" in iPhoto '11 (9.2.3) were resized to smaller versions unknowingly!  I've scoured the hard drive to see if the original image exists, but cannot locate the higher resolution original.  There are multiple folders within the Pictures > iPhoto library, including "Modified", "Originals", and "Masters" - but the same version of the image (low res) exists in all theree folders.
Please help! Are the original high res images lost?

Any luck in solving this.  I had the same issue.

  • Iphoto resize images

I am new to iphoto and need to constantly resize images for internet use. How do I change the resolution or pixels??????? or what ever Mac might call it.
    thank you SO much
    Eleanor

Personally I have never liked iPhoto for doing anything with an image. GraphicConverter for the Mac is a VERY extensive graphics application that can do about anything you care to do to an image. It is not the same type of program as Photo Shop but you can check it out for a free trial.
Back to iPhoto, you can go to Share in the menu and email the photo to yourself at one of 3 sizes. This changes the resolution. And yes, Macintosh uses words like pixel and resolution just the same as everyone else.

  • Weird outline occuring in resized pics in Lightroom 1.x

    Hi,
I have a question regarding pics that are exported in Lightroom. When I'm done editing, I click on the export button and change the sizing dimensions to 1000x1000 so that I don't have to open it up in photoshop again to resize it. Whenever I do this, it creates an odd outline around some parts of the pictures. Here's an example from last night
    http://digitalremix.net/upload/uploads/1/ninja_2010.jpg
If you look at the rear exhaust tip, you'll notice a white outline around the edge of the tip. The same occurs on the ZX6R lettering on the side of the bike. The only way around this, is to export in the original dimensions and then resize again in photoshop, but that's an extra step I'd prefer to not have to do. One of my friends experiences the same issue with lightroom, using the same version as me, which I believe is 1.4. Is there any way around this?

    Ah, the resize problem:
    http://lagemaat.blogspot.com/2008/08/resize-artefacts.html
    http://lagemaat.blogspot.com/2008/08/lightroom-artefacts-even-show-up-when.html
This has to do with Lightroom/ACR's scaling algorithm. There is nothing you can do about it but using a different program such as LR/mogrify or Photoshop to scale your images. It doesn;t show up in many images for me, but when it does, it is a major annoyance.

  • IPhoto book - pic not showing

I am creating a iPhoto book. When I view in slideshow mode one of the pics does not show up. How do I ensure that this pic will be on my final product?

Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
