IPhoto responds very slowly.

iPhoto responds very slowly. I presume is because the application "faces" who is on. how off faces

No that is not it - and faces is always "on" - you can not turn it off
how much free space do you have on your hard drive? Where is your iPhoto library stored? What do you mean by "iPhoto responds very slowly"? Is slow to launch? scrolls slowly? lots of spinning rainbow wheels??????

  • When I write an email it responds very slowly or not at all. Can this be fixed?

Using firefox 10.0.1 when typing in email (Hotmail) it responds very slowly or not at all. This has happened for the past week. Before that time this was not a problem.

It MAY be that Adobe software slowness problems are caused by having a network
printer as default... with the cure being to always have a local printer as a
default (you don't have to USE it, just have it set to local as default) and
this may be accomplished by using an Adobe Generic Printer Driver

  • IPhoto working very slowly

iPhoto is now working very slowly. Any editing move, keyword, or any other action, starts the ball moving and takes quite a while before the action is done. And often the program stalls and I have to force a close.
I have rebuilt (command - option) and I had previously used iPhoto Library Manager to make a new library.
Is it possible that the actual iPhoto program has a corruption in it? If so, how can I fix it?
    Any other suggestions?
    Asuch

When iPLM is finished go to your User/Library/Caches folder and empty the folder named "com.apple.iPhoto". Then reboot and try iPhoto again.
How much free space do you have on your boot drive? It's recommended that a minimum of 10 GB is maintained for optimal system and application performance. If you use iDVD regularly 25 GB free space is recommended.
Also I'd delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and then reset the various iPhoto preferences when you next relaunch iPhoto.
    OT
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • MS Office is responding very slowly

I am using MS Office 14.3.8 which is a latest update to the product. I find it very had to use as it keeps crashing or reponds very very slowly.  When I try to use a couple of shortcuts in the program, it gets ugly and doesnt save my work at all and strucks. I am facing so many problems with MS Office. I tried to use iWork but found to be of waste of time as I am a power user and there are very few options in iWork.

    It keeps logging itself out,
The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Computer responding very slowly

I purchased my iMac G5 about 3 years ago but I'm not very computer saavy - sorry. It used to respond quickly (the internet, itunes, iphoto, etc.). Over time I feel that my computer has gotten slower. I seems that I am wait longer and longer for it to respond to the simpliest tasks, especially on the web. I have a cable hookup. I think there is something I should be doing to "clean out" some old data (I'm sure this terminology is wrong - sorry again), so that the computer can speed up. I kind of remember hearing about technics to improve speed. Does anyone have any tips on how to make it respond quicker again? I hope this makes sense?

Welcome to Discussions - you can clean out your browser caches, and if you have OnyX, you can use it to clean system caches. Make sure that you empty your trash periodically, and that your hard drive has at least 10/15% of free space. Perhaps you don't have sufficient RAM? Usually you need at least 1 GB to run efficiently.
Let us know if anything helped,

  • When typing contact email address into TO: CC: oe BCC: Thunderbird responds very slowly and makes many errors unless typing very slow.

Using Thunderbird v31.0 Did not have this issue in previous version. Previous version responded with lots of pep and got the addressing correct.

My experience after two weeks - just to balance the ledger.
    1) Absolutely no problems with reception/signal and the call quality is terrific.
    2) The keyboard is wonderful.  There are tips and tricks to using it, for instance you don't have to use the Alt key for every number if you're typing a sequence of numbers, just hit the Alt key twice and numbers will be the default.  The space bar is in the perfect place for a phone keyboard, much better than in the middle where it is hard to reach with your thumb (we type so differently on a phone than a PC).
    3) I have NOT had the phone freeze or lock up once in two weeks.
    4) Have not experienced this either - no problems typing replies to emails.
    5) Can't comment - haven't used the FM transmitter
    6) Music Player is fine for me.  I have not experienced any slowness at all.
    7) I don't find selecting entry fields in the browser to be a problem and considering some of them are so small I was really pleasantly surprised about this.  No problems using the browser at all here.
    8) No problems here either.  Calibrated my screen first up, find it very responsive.  Admittedly I have long fingernails which act as 10 permanent styluses! But even so I play card games with little cards on the screen and hardly any pressure is required in my view.
    9) Haven't noticed confirmation messages at all, so I guess they don't impact my use of the phone overly.
Overall, I find the phone a constant joy to own and use.  You DO have to seek out the tips and tricks to getting around it and the shortcuts to things, set your homescreen up in the best way for you etc - but I have NO complaints about the phone whatsoever and recommend it highly.

  • ITunes, on my PC, is responding very slowly.

I just updated downloaded and installed iTunes 11.0.1 on my Windows XP professional PC and all seems OK until I try to access iTunes Store or attempt to turn on Home Sharing or try to do anything where iTunes has to connect to Apple. It takes forever to respond to a mouse click and then all you see is the candy cane line which never stops even after 30 minutes. Has anyone experienced this?  I have uninstalled and re-installed and that does not appear to clear up the problem.  Simultaneous attempts to access internet web pages appear to work fine, so the problem is not with the internet connection.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Mac Mini Snow Leopard "headless" on my home network suddenly responds very slowly.

I run a Mac Mini "headless" (no screen or keyboard) on my home network.  It has run perfectly until now.  Last week I experimentally tried the newer version of Chicken of the VNC (usual access with Screen Sharing.  Since then, responses have become so slow that it is almost unusable although everything else seems to be running fine.
    Any ideas?

    Hi John,
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • IPOD 80 gb is responding very slow

First time poster. I did a search and found nothing. My problem is my ipod classic responds very slowly these days. I'm guessing it's because I have about 70 gb of music on it, and it's just "full". But this is getting very annoying. The wheel is not as responsive and it takes several "brushes" with my fingers to make anything happen.
This is extremely frustrating when I have the earbuds in and I'm trying to raise the volume - I'll scroll the wheel, and scroll and scroll and nothing. After several scrolls it will FINALLY WORK AND GO TO MAXIMUM VOLUME AND BLAST MY EARDRUMS!.
Does anyone know potential causes and/or fixes?
    Thank you,
    Clem

I would try a restore. Despite having that much content it should still operate normally.

  • Computer began to run very slowly once I installed Audigy 2 ZS Platin

I am running an AMD Althlon XP 2000+ (.67 GHz) system with 52 MB of DDR-RAM and when I installed my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound card my computer began to respond very slowly. I thought that was only due to the fact that I had just installed all of the updated drivers however, even after I have rebooted my system I get a very sluggish performance. When I remove the Creative soundcard and switch back to my on board sound card my perfromance comes back. I hope that someone can help me with my problem. Thank you.

There is a fix for this. First Ctrl Alt Delete and find the problem which if i remeber right its called CTHELPER.EXE well you dont need it. You can got into your startup and disable it. It is a pain in the ass file dunno why creative even includes it. Also if you update drivers and firmware you will have to go and disable it again. Or atleast i did.
