IPhoto saves my eidts before I tell it to.

Hi,
Often while editing in fullscreen mode iPhoto will make the decision to save my work and cycle back one picture in my Library. Occasionally it will additionally make an editing change to the picture it cycled back to, usually applying the last edit I was working with.
This is irritating as I then have to move back to the picture I was initially working with, reprocess it to start back from scratch, and hope iPhoto doesn't choose to arbitrarily save in the middle of my editing.
Any clues as to what I might be doing to cause iPhoto to behave this way?

Thanks for reading through my error and offering such a speedy suggestion Toad, I appreciate it!
I can guarantee that I'm not hitting the back arrows. I have a bluetooth keyboard and maybe it's randomly shooting the back arrow command on its own but I've not noticed this behavior in any other applications (iTunes for example doesn't decide on it's own to start the track over again or head back a track or two in the library!)
I've wondered if it might have anything to do with my Mighty Mouse and "gestures" (which I really don't know anything about and to my knowledge don't have set up to work on my Mac.)
Any other thoughts?

It really depends on what it is, exactly, that you wish to do. There are basically four ways to "save."
1.) As you note, Save, Save_As and Save_as_a_Copy are for saving the Project file ONLY. I posted an article here on the differences amongst the three and why one would choose one over the others.
2.) Archiver - this is accessed from the Toolbar and can "save" the Project with the media files in a couple of forms. This is used when a Project is complete, and one wishes to clear their HDD, but wants an "archived" copy of the Project with all media, in case they have to come back to it later.
3.) Export - this is used to send the edited media to an AV file for play, distribution, etc. It is limited in formats, but is the quickest way to, well "export" you edited file (or part of it, using the WAB [Work Area Bar] to an AV file. Export>Movie is probably the most common.
4.) Share - similar to Export, this is used when on is going to "export" the edited file to another medium, usually a "streaming" medium, like the Web, but also offers a myriad of other formats, like WMV (many flavors), or MOV (again, many flavors).
The choice will be based on what the editor needs and wishes.

Does iPhoto save original picture when it has been cropped?

Hi, I have editd some pictures to crop them. Once done, I don't seem to find a saved copy of the original picture. Does iPhoto keep the original somewhere and if yes where? Or is this normal behaviour and I should "duplicate" my photo to keep an original and play with the copy when cropping? Thanks for the feedback, ML

Yes, iPhoto saves your Original pic. All operations - cropping, editing, fixing, exporting - are carried out on a copy of the file.
iPhoto does not show you the “before” and “after” side by side. If you want to compare then simply hold the shift key. (Remember you need to be in edit mode to for this to work.)
You can remove the edits by going Photos -> Revert to Original.

How do I get Iphoto to ask me before merging events?

iphoto used to ask me if I was sure that I wanted events merged. One day, I checked the box that says "Don't ask me again". I shouldn't have done that!!! Now my kids can mix and merge all my events - easily!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

I posted this on another thread. See if this works:
1) Uncheck "Backup previous version" in Keynote's Preferences.
2) Make a duplicate copy of your file that has issues and save it.
3) If you still get spinning wheels from switching between apps after editing or 10 seconds of inactivity, manually save with command+s. It may beach ball here but be patient and wait for it to finish! Try editing and resume doing work now.
Command+s may be a bit slow but I think that might be normal since the files are so big.

Changing how iPhoto saves my photos in iPhoto Library

I want to change the way iPhoto saves photos as "rolls" with the date in various subfolders. Instead, I want to save the photos (when I import them from my camera) to folders based on the subject/event name. Is this possible?

I have two internal hard drives 80GB and 250GB. All my app's and iPhoto are currently installed on the smaller drive which is where iPhoto saves all my images. Is there anyway change the location where iPhoto save all my images? I looked at preferences for iPhoto, but can't find anything

Quit iPhoto
Copy the iPhoto Library folder in home/Pictures to the required drive.
Restart iPhoto holding down the option (alt) key.
This will give you the option of creating a new library or choosing one, select the choose option
Navigate to the new Library
When you are sure that all has gone well, you can get rid of the original.

Bad idea.
Content bought with an Apple ID is forever associated with that Apple ID. Apple will not transfer content from one Apple ID to another and Apple will not merge Apple IDs. Unless you are prepared to forfeit all the previously purchased content and buy it all again with the new Apple ID, you will need to maintain the old ID to update and redownload your content.

Firfox does not open up and I need to save my bookmarks before I uninstall it

I recently upgraded to firefox 3.6.8 (the latest version) and since then its not opening up. I click on firefox icon, the window opens up but does not load anything, it freezes eventually and I have to close it down. I can not click on anything in firefox such as bookmarks or tools or file options since it freezes. so I want to save my bookmarks before uninstalling the firefox. Plz help me. Or is there a solution without uninstalling it? I have tried the safe mode but it doesn't work. Plz help me.

If you have just added an address to your account then it will be an alternate email address - a rescue email address can only be added by answering 2 of your questions. You will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get the questions reset.
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

IPhoto 2 shrinks images before uploading them to flickr

The new version of iPhoto 2 shrinks images before uploading them to flickr. Now you can't use flickr to backup your orginal photos through the iphoto app.

In fact no matter if I use a High or Medium compression size JPEG, the size after upload is the same.
Starts with 1,5 MB/5600px (high) or 780kb/5600px (medium) JPEG and ends after upload in 115kb for a 1024px image.
This means that iPhoto auto compress in order to publish to Mobile Me, even if we start with a bigger file.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session. 
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" if you want to restore multiple windows. 
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time. 
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page. 
Another possibility is to use:

Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session".
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
# Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
# Go to the General panel
# Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

It's too late for that now.
IF you had PhotoStream turned on, they may have already uploaded... though you will only find the last 30 days/1000 photos there after you restore.
