IPhoto says;

"You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete"
and the icon is ghosted with a white bar across?
I have around 600 pics. and can see them if I want to attach a pic to a mail or something.
Any ideas

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • I updated to Yosemite.  iPhoto says I need to update to the latest version.  The app store says the version I need is not available in the US.  Thus iPhoto won't work or even open at this point

I updated to the yosemite system.  My iPhoto says I need to update to the latest version for it to work with yosemite.  The app store searches and then states the version I need is not available in the US.  Currently I cannot use iPhoto.  Suggestions?

    Csound1,
Thanks for the hint about not emptying the trash.  I will try to work on this tonight or tomorrow morning and let you know if "this helped me".
    Russell,
If you go into the iLife support forum for iPhoto, there are a couple good threads.  Basically, iPhoto can't be downloaded by anyone anywhere in the world unless the app store has it listed in your "purchases" list.  The threads contain a lot of steps and it looks like this could be difficult for novices like me.
    Rysz,
I will also look at the link you provided before I get started.  Thanks.

  • Iphoto says open instead of install (after deleting)

In trying to fix an issue with exporting a slideshow I have deleted Iphoto from my macbook pro. I want to now reinstall it but when I go to the app store iphoto says "open" instead of "install". when i click it nothing happens... need to reinstall. HELP!!!

Drag the iPhoto application from /Applications to the trash then empty your trash. When you go back to the App Store, iPhoto will have an install button.

  • IPhoto says it won't import photos from my Fujifilm Finepix S1000 camera because it's the wrong format (jpeg).  It always has before... but I upgraded to Lion then went back to Snow Leopard and now it's not working.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • HT2638 My iPhoto says it is in use by another application or has become unreadable. Nothing I have done is working?

My iPhoto says it is in use by another application or has become unreadable. Nothing I have done is working? I've tried restarting my compuer, holding down the command and option keys as I open it and have tried downloading another version of the iPhoto..

See if you can do the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • I imported 635 images into an iPhoto album so that I can share them via a photo-stream. However, iPhoto says there are only 600. When I try to add the missing images it says they are already there. Why can i not see these images in iPhoto?

I imported 635 images into an iPhoto album so that I can share them via a photo-stream. However, iPhoto says there are only 600. When I try to add the missing images it says they are already there. Why can i not see these images in iPhoto?

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

  • IPhoto says "installing" in app store, on iMac with Yosemite, but it never gets installed.

I have an older iMac, 24" from the late 2009 era, have upgraded to Yosemite, but now iPhoto won't open.  It says that I need to go to the app store and install the new version.  When I do that very thing, iPhoto says, "Installing" in the gray box that used to say Install, but it never seems to finish installing.  What can I do to fix this?

What can I do to fix this?
    Start over.
Find iPhoto on the Launch Pad, hold down on it, till the LaunchPad items start to wiggle, then click the cross to uninstall iPhoto.
Restart your Mac, then try to install iPhoto again.

  • My iPhoto says it's importing pics but I don't know what.

iPhoto says it's importing but I'm not sure what. What do I do?
I don't have anything plugged into the computer, it won't let me force quit it and it won't let me restart the computer. I'm not sure what else to try.
    Thanks,
    Mom O'Seven

Either Force restart the computer by holding down the power button a long time after quitting all other applications.
Or launch a Terminal window (the Terminal.app is in the Utilites folder in Applications). Then copy and paste this command into the Terminal:
    killall iPhoto
If that does not suffice, try
    killall iPhoto -6
And if that still does not work, use the ultimate killer:
    killall iPhoto -9

  • Iphoto says  albums are currently sychronizing and wont quit.

Iphoto says  albums are currently synchronizing and wont quit. Force quit doesn't work either, what can I do?

Shut the computer down and then relaunch.  If, when you relaunch iPhoto it starts the synchronizing again and you can't quit, do the same as before.  But this time launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.  Use the options in the screenshot below:

This happens when someone drags the HD or a system folder icon to the iPhoto Window by accident. Solution: restore from back up created before this occurred.

Don't know how long it would take to import that many photos but if you stopped import and ejected the card ther is something else wrong here.
I would Force Quit iPhoto. Then Restart your mac. Then restart iphoto to see if any or all of your photos were imported. If they ae you're good to go. If they were not imported I would try importing fewer photos at a time and see what happens.
