IPhoto seems to be frozen, says it's importing photos but there is nothing connected to it?

I have only had my Macbook Air for around 2 months, and it is my first Apple. I don't know what to do about the iPhoto problem. I have connected my HTC One phone and my iPod to it to charge and to import photos before but neither is attached to it currently but iPhoto seems to be frozen. It will not let me close it or shut down my computer, it says it is currently importing photos and that I need to wait until it is finished. How can I resolve this? Thanks in advance.

Force Quit - it's under the Apple Menu
