Iphoto slideshow slide duration option frozen

Tried to get slideshow automatically show all the slides. I can click the slides
to get thru them, but won't go thru them automatically.
Also, the drop down box slides for" _ seconds"... I can't change the time per slide. It is frozen at 3 any suggestions on how to change??
Using Iphoto 6

I'm glad that after 3 days of looking around these forums, I finally found someone with my problem. I did what you suggested and still had the following problems. First, if I try to preview the slide show, It does one transition and returns to the first slide. Second, if I click the play button, my Cinema display powers down(the light goes off), but the music runs anyway. I suspect that the slide show might be running (at least the music is), but I can't see it cause my monitor's off. I just upgraded to OSX 10.4.8 and added the newest ilfe package from the apple store, and installed 6.0.4 and 6.0.5 updates. I don't have a clue how to fix this. Can you help?

  • How can I sort Photos sandomly in a iPhoto Slideshow? The option to shuffle photos is darkened.

So I am trying to randomly sort my photos in a slideshow that I have created, and iPhoto does not give me the option to randomly sort my photos. I tried playing the slideshow, and then select the settings, which brought up the option to "shuffle slide order" but it will not allow me to select it. It appears that the box may be slightly darkened. I dont understand why it will not let me select it, or if there is some other way to randomly order photos. Thanks.

The only way to get a slideshow sorted randomly is to start with an album and use the Play button at the bottom of the window.  Click on the screen to bring up the Settings pane where you can select Shuffle slide order:
If you check User settings as default it will lock those settings to the album you're using.  If you empty the album and add new photos the settings will still apply.

  • Make slideshow in iDVD6: 'manual' option not avail. in 'slide duration'

In iDVD6, the 'manual' option is not available (it's "greyed out") when I look to choose 'manual' in the "slide duration" pull-down menu. I CAN (if I wanted to) choose "1" to "10" seconds, or even "fit audio," but for some reason the software is not allowing me to choose "manual." Any hints?

The manual option is available only if you don't have a sound track in your slideshow. If you have a sound track, remove it and the manual option will not be greyed out anymore.

  • Iphoto slideshow Turned slides when exported to iDVD

Some photos are turned after export to iDVD, how can that be? More importantly how to fix, the slide show looks fine in iPhoto. The image quality is another issue and I'll follow the iMovie thread because I have 353 slides using 19GB in iPhoto. Why are photos being turned?
    G4 400 AGP graphics upgraded to 1GHZ & Radeon 8500   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   500 Gig FW 800 back up drive, ESATA 1.5 TB, DVR 109

    James:
They are being turned because for some reason iDVD is taking the Original version instead of the rotated version in the Modified folder. These are portrait photos from a camera with auto-rotate capability. I suggest you try exporting the rotated version to a folder on the desktop, drop then into an open Safari window to make sure they are truly rotated and then import them and replace the problem versions.
This can be circumvented by uploading to a folder on the desktop first, previewing the photos in Preview of some other application and then rotating them with a 3rd party application. I use PhotoToolCM which is a Contextual Menu application that will losslessly rotate the photos.
You might try rebuilding the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. Next add some photos to iDVD and see if they are correct. You can also drag the thumbnails from iPhoto into the open iDVD slideshow window and try it that way.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do i separate two pictures on one slide in iphoto slideshow

I have created an iphoto slideshow. The iphoto software creates some slides with two photos on the slide. Is there a way to separate the two photos to create two slides?

    Use a more basic template.

  • Iphoto slideshow (9.5.1)is playing backwards.  last slide to first.

My iphoto slideshow is playing backwards - last slide first.  How can I reverse that?

Are you using an instant slideshow from an album? Instant slideshows cannot be manually sorted. Create a regular slideshow project with "File > New Slideshow". Then you have a better control about the arrangement of photos in the slideshow.

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • IPhoto slideshow in iDVD project

I have some questions on problems creating a iDVD project of an iPhoto slideshow:
    1. Is it possible (how ?) to create buttons for scene selections, as in iMovie ?
My project contains one continuous slideshow (942 still pictures) which I want to divide in
chapters relating to the varuous trips I made during one travel.
If not in iDVD: has this breaking up of a single iPhoto slideshow be done in iMovie or iPhoto itself,
or by way of creating a 'Magic iDVD' ?
    2. Can audio be imported with different sound clips ?
As for now my audio clip (3 min) repeats itself endlessly till the end of the project (48 min), and I
want to use various songs out of my iTunes library.
    3. For a slideshow with its speed matched to the lenght of an audio clip, 10 seconds seems to be
the longest duration for one single picture. Can this be lengthened ?.
In my actual project, 10 seconds for each picture in combination with a cross dissolve seems
to work too fast in my slideshow.
I expected this transition to be added to their duration; instead it seems to take seconds away
    from the linked stills.
If all these problems can't be adressed in iDVD 6: is iDVD 8 the better option ?

To get the versatility that you want, and because this is a complex project for iPhoto, I suggest that you bring iMovie into the work flow.
I would create a separate iPhoto slideshow for each segment of your trip (eg. Italy, France, etc.)
Then export each slideshow to your desktop as a High Quality Quicktime movie. There will be no loss of quality. Then create an iMovie project, and drag each Quicktime movie into the project. You can add your audio in iMovie, as well as chapter markers. Then save and close, and drag the iMovie icon (the one with the star on it) into an iDVD project. Just drag it to the edge of the iDVD display menu so it doesn't fall into a drop zone. Then save your iDVD project as a Disk Image (an option from the File menu). This will take awhile because all the encoding will be done as if you were burning a disk. To play the disk image, double click on its icon, and then open the DVD Player app on your Mac. Make sure it plays O.K. Then close it, and open the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac. If it's not already in there, drag your disk image icon into the left side display panel in the Disk Utility Window. Then insert a DVD-R disk into your drive and hit Burn. The burning process will be fairly quick because all the encoding already was done when you created the disk image.
As far as I am aware, you cannot extend the length of a photo in an iPhoto slideshow beyond what the settings will allow you to do. If you want to go beyond that, I would suggest creating your slideshow in iMovie where you can display the photos for as long a duration as you want. In my opinion, 10 seconds duration for a photo is way too long, particularly when you have 942 still pictures. Whew! I would keep it to 5 seconds at most. You can always use the remote pause button of your DVD player if you want to display to your viewers a particular photo for a longer time.
In an iPhoto slide show you can import different audio with different sound clips. Go to iTunes and make up an album of the songs that you want to play in your slide show. Then, when you select your music from the media pane in your iPhoto slide show, select the album that you created, and the slide show will play those songs in succession as your slide show runs.
The cross dissolve transition will shorten the display duration of the photo on each side of it, and thus shorten the overall display time of the slideshow. The overlap transition will not shorten the overall time display.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your project/.

  • How do I create the highest quality dvd of an iphoto slideshow?

I have created a large (550 photos) slideshow in iphoto using one of the iphoto templates and added music to the slideshow.  The photos are high quality/large file size photos.  I would like to then combine the iphoto slideshow with an imovie trailer.  When I have gone through through the process of exporting the slideshow out of iphoto and into imovie and then burning a disk with idvd, the quality of the dvd is poor.  I am using the latest versions of iphoto, imovie, and idvd.  I would appreciate any advice on how to produce the highest quality dvd from the slideshow as it is part of a gift recapping a trip.

Here's one approach: First crop the photos to the iDVD size ratio, 4:3.  Export the movie out of iPhoto via the Export button and select Size = Medium or Large.  Remember DVD video format is standard definition only.  All media gets reduced to 640 x 480 before burning to disk.
Don't add it to iMovie as that just adds another layer of compresson/encoding to it.
In iMovie create the trailer and use the Share ➙ Media Browser option.  This produces a better file image than the Share ➙ iDVD option.
In iDVD create a Slideshow and add the trailer from the Media/Movies pane and drag the iPhoto movie after it.
Set transitions to None and slide duration to anything but Manual.  Do not add any audio.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If you find that the resulting movie/slideshow extends off the TV screen and looses some of the image you can set the iDVD/Slideshow preferences to Scale Photos to TV Safe Area.
That may add black areas to each side of the movie depending on the size ratio of the TV screen and aspect ratio set in the DVD player.
NOTE: if you have access to a copy of iMovie 6 HD I suggest you use it for your slideshow from photos and the trailer.  It produces the best results with iDVD and allows far better audio control.  If you do have that version just drag the completed iMovie project file into iDVD to avoid another layer of encoding/compression.

  • IPhoto slideshow using mini-dvi to video adapter

When using the mini-dvi to video adapter to connect to my widescreen tv (via composite), to show iPhoto slideshows, the transistions between slides dont apear and there are no ken burns effects. The slideshow runs fine on my MacBook display (ie when not conected to the tv), and the is no other distortion or flickering (as reported in other threads), this seems odd to me or is it just a limitation of analogue output.
    2Ghz MacBook, White   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It means that the issue resides in your existing Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Apple TV no longer plays iPhoto slideshows (individually)

I have been using AppleTV for a couple of years, primarily to play iPhoto slideshows to music on our TV's. With a recent update (either to Apple TV, iTines or iPhoto, not sure, but I think it changed after an Apple TV update) we can no longer watch our individual iPhoto slideshows (By individual slide shows, I mean we used to be able to choose what slide show or album we wanted to play with music on the Apple TV. i.e.: vacation slideshow, birthday slideshow, Christmas slideshow, etc...) Now when you select what photos you want to share in iTunes, I check those albums & slideshows I want available but some do not appear on Apple TV  and those that do appear are automatically combined (for example it will combine Vacation and Christams slideshows into one massive slide show and their is no way to select one or the other.) Until a month or two ago this was not the case. I know I can create slideshows and save them to iMovie/iTunes or burn to disc but I do not want to do that, I like keeping them in iPhoto so they can constantly be added to and altered, thats the fun of it!
Any ideas or known fixes would be appriciated. I love how Apple is always changing things for the better, but every so often they update software and end up taking away features that I use! It can be frustrating!
Thanks in adavnce for your help!

I cannot figure out how to move or convert an existing 'slideshow' to an 'album'. (in the end, all I really need to do is move the pix from a given slideshow to an album so I can view it as a slide show on Apple TV) I don't mind if the slideshows are shuffled on the TV as long as I can keep each slide show seperate. I basically use my iPhoto slideshows as a drop off point so we can watch them on Aplle TV. I never really do much with them in iPhoto except add new photos to existing shows now and then, I had the slideshows set to shuffle on Apple TV anyway. If I could figure out how to convert each slide show to its own album that would probably work. (re-creating each slide show is not a good option since some of my family slideshows contain hundreds or in some cases over a thousand photos). I've tried dragging the slide show to "albums" catagory but that doesnt work.
Thank you for the quick response!

  • Slide duration button greyed out

I have imported a sound track to my slideshow in Aperture 3 and everything seems fine except that the slide duration button is greyed out and therefore not allowing me to set slide durations 'on the fly'. Any suggestions on how to make the slide duration button active?

What theme are you using? Some themes require a minimum slide duration to allow for smooth transitions. The "Classic" theme is the most flexible.
With some themes the option "Fit slideshow to main audio track" will disable the "Play slide for ..." button. To enable this individual control again, you will have to turn off  "Fit slideshow to main audio track" if it is active.

  • I would like to create a soundtrack for my iPhoto Slideshow that consists of "parts" of say three songs" - how can I do this?

I am about to create a slideshow for my daughters wedding and I would like to be able to have three sections of photos (her, him, and both) in this show as well I would like to have one soundtrack that has parts of three songs - matching up with each section.
How do I create such a soundtrack, and then how do I match it up to the three sections of my photos?
Believing this can be done then how do I transfer it to a device that will play on a large screen at the wedding?
    Thanks!

Do you have iDVD on your Mac?  If so here's how you can do it.
    Create 3 separate slideshows.  Use iTunes to trim the tracks you want to use for each slideshow. Select the track and type Command+i to bring up the sound track's info window.  Then set the start and stop times to what you need;
Do that for each of the three slideshows.
    Next:
1 - export each slideshow to the Desktop with the Size = medium or large.
2 - launch iDVD, create a project and select a theme.
3 - create a slideshow in iDVD via the "+" button.
4 - drag the three QT movie files into the slideshow window in the order you want them to play.
5 - set the slide duration to anything but manual or fit to music.
6 - do not select any transition or music.
7 - follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The video DVD disc can then be played with a set top DVD player on a TV set.

  • IPhoto/ATV Slide Show Sync

What do I need to do to have ATV coordinate music and pics as they are on the original iPhoto slideshow?
I created a slideshow with music in iPhoto 08. I synced to my ATV but when it is played, the music does not "fit slideshow to music" the way it does on iPhoto playback. In fact, none of the settings besides the choice of music and pics seems to carry over. I have removed and re-synced the show but pics continue to change much faster, then are repeated until music selection ends.

Although well intended, I fear you've been misinformed.
    Please explain this.
What you must realise is that you are no longer syncing a photo to atv,
you're syncing a movie (slideshow) and as such that has to sync from iTunes.
One can always export a slide show as a movie, that is correct, but it isn't the only option and wasn't what the OP was asking about. One can indeed sync slideshows from iphoto (not itunes) without having to export as a movie.

  • Extract Photos from iPhoto Slideshow DVD

I made a DVD via iPhoto for someone for the purpose of viewing pictures without actually having possession them, and I heard they found a way to get the pictures off.
Is this true, or was the iPhoto slideshow made incorrectly?

    Coincidentally I just saw this:
If you play the slideshow DVD with VLC (Video LAN Client)
<http://www.videolan.org> you can use the "Snapshot" command (Command-Option-S) in the "Video" menu to generate a file from each slide. The resolution will only be about 640 x 480
