IPhoto Slideshow unable to EXPORT to IDVD reports as error.

when exporting slideshow from iphoto to idvd /message says" error will not export files" It is a new mac with 2gb extra memory. I have cleared out all extraneous files, so there should be room on the disc. Help, this is a student''s work and would love to help them burn the dvd slideshow.

Patricia:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If there's another account on that Mac log into it and see if you can get iPhoto to export to iDVD. You may need to create a temp library there, import a few photos, etc.. If it does export successfully there may be some preference file in the primary account that is the culprit, other than iPhoto's. Here's how to check it out:
Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Music from iPhoto slideshow not making it to iDVD

Hi - newbie at iDVD - got a nice slideshow on iPhoto - music, Ken Burns effect,....nice!
Exported to iDVD, one song burns to disc, others don't. All from same source. Am I doing something wrong??

    Welcome to the forums.
This version of iDVD can choke on some music files. I assume you're using an iTunes album to collect all your songs for iPhoto. A workaround for your problem is to export your playlist from iTunes to CD and then import back into iTunes, but use the Advanced menu to Join CD Tracks so the songs come back as a single file.

  • RCIRAS0546 Error - Unable to Export a Crystal Report from BOE XI (SP3) 3.1

    Hello,
We have just upgraded to Crystal Reports 2008 (from Crystal Reports 10) and BOE XI 3.1 sp3 (from Crystal Enterprise 10).  The reports created in CR 10 open and generate just fine from within CR 2008, and they are saved to BOE XI.  When I view the CR from within BOE XI web gui, the report displays fine in Crystal Report format.  When I attempt to export the report to .pdf, I get the error "Your request could not be completed because a failure occurred while the report was being processed. Please contact your system administrator. [RCIRAS0546]"  I tried exporting the report to Word, Excel, RTF, and CSV and did not get any error.  Adobe Reader IS loaded on the server (we are running direct on server right now to test before deploying over web).
This does not happen with all of our reports, and we can't figure out why it happens with some and not others.  Another thread on the forum led me to believe it may have been due to subreports, but this is not the case as the reports that error sometimes have subreports, sometimes not.  Some reports have formulas, some do not.  I can't find the common design between them to cause this issue.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
(FYI - I've changed the default Input and Output directory of the servers from the default C drive to the D drive as it is larger.  I simply overwrote the placeholder and ensured the folder path existed - which it does.  Not sure if this applies.  I also pointed the temp directory to the same D location)

  • Unable to burn iPhoto slideshow without a theme in iDVD

I transferred my slideshow from iphoto using the menu item "Share with iDVD" I want my slideshow to start automatically so I drag my slideshow to the first box. My problem is with the Theme. I don't want to use any theme at all. If I leave it in the 2nd slot and hit Burn it gives me an error "There were warnings during the project validation. It is recommended that you fix these problems before burning the project." I need to make multiple copies of this slideshow and I'm way behind the deadline. Any advice you can give me? This is my first time to use iDVD.
    Thanks, Dee

You have to have a theme and menu. It's the nature of iDVD. Select the simplest theme you can find and add a plain black image file for the background. You can set the text color to black also so when the slideshow is finished all you'll get is a black screen on the TV. Or you might just set the text to white, change the buttopn text to Play. When the slideshow finishes playing one time you'll end back at a black screen with a simple Play button.

  • IPhoto 08 Unable to Export

My hard drive is partitioned into three drives, a primary boot drive, a secondary boot drive, and a swap drive. My iPhoto library sits on my swap drive which has plenty of free space. I recently imported a modest number of photos (~200), made a few image enhancements, and wanted to export to an external drive where I store all of my final edited photos. I've done this many times with iPhoto with no problem. However, when I tried to export just 50 photos to my external hard drive, only 30 were actually transferred, when I got a message saying "Unable to create /Volumes/\[disk name\]/Pictures". I am actually trying to export to a sub-folder of "Pictures" which I found odd since both folders are already created.
So, next I tried to export to my swap drive and the exact same thing happened. Then I tried to export just one file and got the same error. However, when I went back and tried to re-export one of the files that successfully exported previously, it worked just fine again. But both of the photos were from the same import and both were edited, so there's no reason they should act differently. I then tried to export to my desktop on my primary boot drive and had the same problem. Memory shouldn't be an issue as I have about 220GB on my external, 25GB on my swap, and 800MB on my primary boot of free space. The 50 photos should not be more than 200MB at most.
Last thing is that I went back and looked at iPhoto and I noticed that even though all the photos show up (in full res, not just thumbs), the photos that I cannot export, have a memory listed as 0kb. There are a couple photos that were unedited that still show up as having correct memory. So this must be the root of my problem. So how in the world do I fix it?
    -- Brandon

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
800MB on my primary boot of free space.
That immediately raises a red flag. it's generally recommended that one have a minimum of 10 GB free space on a boot drive and 20 or so if you use iDVD much. The space is needed for temporary and virtual memory files by both system and applications.
I suggest you free up some space on the boot drive and see if that will correct the situation. Even it it does not you will have problems with only 800 MB of free space on the boot drive. Freeing up the free space will have an impact on system and application speed.
There have been reports of users who have let their free space on the boot drive dwindle down to the point where it would not boot.

  • Templated iPhoto slideshow will NOT export interlaced no matter what I do!

    Hi!
I'm a very IT-literate, video technology literate guy, primarily because I am a video editor, so I do know my 25p from my 25i.
I've a series of photos, assembled in iPhoto, templated with lovely - if impossible to edit - transitions, set to music, its all divine. I play it on my 1920x1200 monitor and it's a smooth as silk.
Now, I want to burn it to DVD. Even HD-DVD. So, to keep the motion smooth, I need it to export as interlaced video.
I've tried everything. Hi-def Apple Intermediate Codec set to Custom and HDV25i, (or whatever it's called; I can't check as I'm exporting my n-millionth version), I've tried Apple ProRes422 (HQ and 4444 - both abort in the export), I've tried standard def DV (interlace option on, of course), I've tried 8bit uncompressed, AJA 10bit YUV...you get the picture.
Nothing, but nothing is coming out of iPhoto interlaced. Oh, I've done share to iDVD, too, but same thing.
Does anyone have any clues? It's really a requirement for the software, given the fast motion whip pans it does between the slides, but I can't make it work, and I do this kind of thing for a living.
I did search this forum for "interlaced" but only came up with another thread that I'd posted in! If there are other threads elsewhere, I'd really appreciate a link!

The iPod will need to be serviced, to determine the exact fault and repair it (if possible).  You can get the current 7th gen iPod nano as an Apple-certified refurb for $99 (with a one-year warranty)
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipod
so the cost to repair your nano may not be economical.  If you are the good at such things, this web site has DIY repair guides
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Nano
Be sure to rule out the other possibilities.  If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar and take it there (along with your docking cable).

  • IPhoto unable to export EXIF information correctly for photos with color filters

I have imported photos from my phone to iPhoto and noticed that some of the photos do not have EXIF information when exporting to other places or synced back to iPhone. When I am trying to view the photo in iPhoto, the date is correctly shown.
The date shown in the iPhone photo moment tab is the import date rather than the original date when the photos were taken.
When I am trying toview the photo in iPhoto, the date is correctly shown.
(for example: the photo was taken in Dec 1, 2012, imported to iPhoto in Nov 1, 2014, and synced back to iPhone.
the date shown in iPhone is Nov 1, 2014, the date shown in iPhoto is Dec 1, 2012.)
After further looking into the details of the photo, i have noticed that theses photos are taken with color filters in iPhone or bursting photos or panoramas.
(e.g a mono or fade filter choosed when taking photo in iPhone camera).
When choose " reveal in finder" option in iPhoto for these photos, there are two options : view original or modified.
the original files contain EXIF information and the modified files do not.
the original files show photo without color filter
the modified files shows photo with color filter, the modified photos are what the photos were contained in iPhone originally.
When exported syncing these photos, the modified files was exported/synced, however, no EXIF information was exported. photos only contains the creation date.
These resulted in a mess in the photo collection in my phone. photos were displayed in wrong order.
When i export these photo to another location for back up purposes, i choose "include all location information, name, keyword", only the modified photos were exported without any EXIF information.
The only way I found is reveal these photos in finder.
iPhoto seems unable to export/sync photos that are taken with color filters/ panorama photos/ bursting photos.
is there any way to solve this problem? Thank you!

i have just taken a photo with effects and imported to iPhoto, The EXIF can be exported. The problem is syncing.
I think this problem only happen to photo taken before iOS 8.
EXIF of photo with effects unable be synced back to iPhone.
Apple acknowledged that the new Photos.app in iOS 8 is handling edits differently, see:
iPhoto and Aperture don't have edits to photos you import from iOS 8 devices
In iOS 8 edited versions are stored in a different way from previously. And it looks like there is now a bug, that prevents the older edited versions from being handled correctly.
Send a bug report to Apple. You could use the feedback form, if you do not have a developer account: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • Sharing widescreen iPhoto slideshows to iDVD?

    Hello,
I am trying to determine the best balance between picture quality and ease of use in creating slideshows. I have tried creating 720p "movies" with photos in iMovie, but so far iDVD has crashed every time I tried to use these to make a DVD. I then tried creating a widescreen iPhoto slideshow, and "sharing" it to iDVD. It worked, but the quality was horrible AND the exported movie was cropped to standard format!
Does anyone have any feedback as to the best way to achieve high quality DVD slideshows? I would prefer to use Ken Burns effects if possible. I don't care how long it takes to encode, so two-pass is fine.
    -Bob
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    bhakesle:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Here are two threads on creating slideshow bound for iDVD:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2909799&#2909799
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2357356#2357356
Personally I prefer to create the slideshow directly in iDVD from stills imported from iPhoto (after cropping to the recommended 4:3 ratio beforehand). It's my opinion and experience that I get the best image quality that way. iDVD also lets you have titles or subtitles on slides. The titles that you put on in iPhoto get cut off once imported into iDVD as a QT movie.
Also, creating the slideshow in iDVD gives you a true slideshow, with forward and back buttons, if desired to be shown, and the user can use the forward and back buttons on the DVD remote to activate them.
Since I'm not a fan of the Ken Burns effect I don't lose anything this way over going thru iPhoto. To each his own.
    Do you Twango?

  • IPhoto slideshow vs iDVD slideshow

Can a slideshow in iPhoto be added to iDVD?
In iDVD when I select "add slideshow", it only lets you create a new slideshow.
    Not add an existing one.

If you create the slideshow in iDVD you can add to it at any time via the Media Browser. Since you're creating the slideshow in iPhoto and sending it to iDVD a Quicktime movie file is created of the slideshow and that is added to iDVD.
If you want to join the existing QT movie slideshow with a new QT movie slideshow open both in Quicktime Player and do the following:
1 - click on slideshow A, type Command+A (select all) and Command+C (copy).
2 - click on slideshow B, place the cursor at the end of the slideshow and type Command+P (paste).
3 - Do a Save As and select the self contained movie option.
Any iPhoto slideshow that is sent to iDVD via the Share->iDVDE menu option will have the file saved to the Movies folder.
If the problem is you can't get the new slideshow added to an existing iDVD project just quit the new iDVD project that is created, located the new slideshow QT file in your Movies folder and add it manually to your existing iDVD project.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • IPhoto slideshow export issue

    Greetings,
I am runnng iPhoto 11 v9.4.1 and cannot export a 100 picture slideshow. I have a MacBook Pro runing 10.7.5.  After creating the slideshow, I click on the export button, select the display option of 1280 x 800 and then click OK.  iPhoto starts the export and then will quit, finder will come up with an error message: The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found.  The slideshow QT movie does not get created.  I also created a new iPhoto database, imported 5 pictures, created a new slideshow and then exported - I got the same error message.  I am stumped, any ideas or suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Matt

I was with the same problem and followed the instructions from another discussion in this forum.
    Try this:
. Do a simple file search (via spotlight) on the files related to "3ivx" codec.
. Remove the files or uninstall this codec
. Try to export from iPhoto again.
    That should work.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto slideshow music problem.....

When the slideshow is played on the iPhoto Application in the computer, it plays all the music listed in the album chosen. HOWEVER, when exported to a CD disk it will only play the first song and then no more music for the rest of the slide show. This has been frustrating.....

    Hi John,
this has been a know glitch that shows up for some .
Only one song exporting with Slideshows
Right now, this seems to be a know problem/bug. There have been some work-arounds. Don't know if the problem is with iPhoto, Quicktime or a combo of both.
-From Bob Worthington: re-ripping the cuts I wanted as background music for the DVD as a single cut in iTunes. I then made a playlist containing the one extended cut of music.
-Old Toad: share to Quicktime from iPhoto and then import the resulting movie into iMovie you can extract and delete the audio from the video and add the two songs to the video and save.
Quicktime Pro-open the movie and bring up the Movie Properties menu window. In the top window select the audio track and delete it.
If you want more than one song you'll have to join them together with iMovie or some other application. Then open that joined file with QT Player. Then do a select all and copy. Now go to the QT window of the movie and select the Edit->Add to Movie menu option. You don't want to scale it because it will change the play speed of the audio unless it's time is exactly the same as the movie.
You could go the other way, open the movie, select all and copy, and then past with scaling to the audio. That will change the speed of the movie and transitions to fit the audio track. In this case the resulting video file will have the name of the audio track file that you started with.
You may have to play with it a bit to get exactly what you want. Be sure to work with copies of all the media files for the project.
-Peter Burtwistle: I opened the Qt movie that iPhoto makes when you export to iDVD and removed the sound track.
Then made a new soundtrack by opening all three songs in QT, then cutting and pasting them together.
Finally use QT Pro's 'Add to Movie" option to add the soundtrack to the original movie.
This worked well and was fast to do too.
-Joe Lombardo: I ended up having to extend the songs by 20 seconds so I brought them all into GarageBand and made some edits. Then I exported them all to iTunes as a single track and used that for the slideshow
From scotty321 at MacOSXHints.com: If you have Roxio Toast Titanium installed on your machine, you can join unprotected tracks yourself by simulating a disc burn. Simply take these steps:
Go to the Audio tab in Toast.
Drag your audio files from iTunes into Toast.
Reshuffle them in the proper order within Toast.
Go up to File: Save As Disc Image. Save your disc image somewhere on your Desktop.
Choose Utilities: Mount Disc Image. The CD will mount on your desktop, and iTunes will think that you just inserted a CD.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go through the import process, and you've got a joined track! Simply rename the track to whatever you want to call it, and you're good to go.
    From Lori...
    Burn the playlist in iTunes.
Make sure you have itunes Prefs just open the Cd and not automatically play or import the songs.
Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
When done, make a new playlist named after the slideshow.
Put the new combined track into the playlist.
In iPhoto, select this playlist for your slideshow.
