IPhoto Slideshows dont work

Hi. I am new to Apple. I bought a iMac couple of days ago. It did a bunch of updates on first time startup including to iPhoto. When i launched iPhoto and imported my SD card, it pulled in some photos. However, whenever i try to launch a slideshow, the screen "blinks" and return to iPhoto. I never see any slideshow. How do i fix this? I have already tried creating new library but that doesn't help. So far, its been a poor first impression :-(
Thanks,
Prateek
OS X 10.7.2
iPhoto 11 - 9.2 (626)

I should have mentioned - after making the post above, I checked the logs in console and it seems iPhoto theme database was missing. I solved the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling iPhoto. Post that, Apple released one more update to iPhoto which screwed iPhoto again - whenever I launched iPhoto thereafter, I would see the beachball of death for a minute or so before iPhoto finally launched. Solved again by uninstalling and reinstalling iPhoto :-/
As a new Mac owner, I still cant get over the fact that how can something that was supposed to "just work" have this issue in a new iMac. Maybe its simply the difference between tourism and immigration!

  • IPhoto Slideshows not working

On my new Gen2 ATV I am sharing my iphoto library all items checked but only events and albums will display. None of the slideshows are available on the ATV. All movies and other photos work justy fine. I have 6 of these with extensive slideshow librarys we use to operate displays throught the building and I need to get this working ASAP any hel greatly appreciated. Yes I have reset shared unshared powered up and down everything fixed permissions etc..

usually I would use Dreamweaver to create a webpage, then use the insert feature to place the quicktime movie where i want it. But for these tests, I just simply upload the quicktime.mov file to a folder on my website, then point the browser to the quicktime file and it loads into the browser window.
A workaround to my problem I discovered is to create the slideshow in iPhoto, export it with the correct settings for the web (H.264...) then open it in quicktime pro and re-export it with fast start selected. This works and I don't notice a degradation in quality. It just takes longer because I have to export the movie twice. This doesn't solve my iPhoto problem, but at least now I can get the slideshow up on the web.
I just looked at your slideshow, and on my browser, it does not start playing until the entire movie is downloaded. Same problem I'm having. But you say it plays, so maybe it is a browser issue. I'm using Firefox 3.6. In Safari it will play before completely downloading if i hit the play button.

  • Using iPhoto Slideshow for Work Presentation

    Hello.
I have created a slideshow I'd like to use for presentations for our non-profit organization. Can I save the slideshow (AND the accompanying music) to a CD/DVD and then play it on any TV? Will it have the same look (fades, etc) and the music playing in the background?
    THANKS!!
    ~linda

    Linda:
Yes you can but you'll have to share it into iDVD and then burn a DVD capable of playing on any DVD player to a TV.
I suggest you create an iDVD project first, select the theme, etc. Then in iPhoto use the Share->Send to iDVD menu option. Once the movie is in iDVD you can finish off the details of the project and do a Save As Disk Image. This will create a disk image of the project that you can open and play with DVD Player to check on the quality before you commit to disk. Once you're satisfied with it you can burn that disk image to disk with Disk Utility.
Note: As a movie it will be difficult to move backward to view a previous slide. It's like running the movie backward to get where you want. If you're not using the Ken Burns effect you can create the same slideshow directly in iDVD, complete with transitions, titles and subtitles if desired and music. With this system you can move forward and backward slide by slide if needed just by using the forward and backward arrow buttons of the DVD player remote. IMO this type of slideshow gives sharper image quality than a movie type. But that's just a personal opinion.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto Slideshow and playlist synched but does not play together

Saw the previous posts about getting iPhoto slideshows to work where you need to sync the photo album and associated iTunes playlist.
Have done that but I am still just getting random music. It doesn't play the music associated with the slideshow playlist. I can play the playlist separately just fine. I just doesn't work with the slideshow.
    Any thoughts on troubleshooting this?

Yes, sure have. And I didn't see any errors (that little triangle thing with the exclamation point)
Even changed some content so I could check that the Sync happened.

  • ITunes No Longer Working With iPhoto Slideshow

I'm not certain, but as I can no longer play music from my iTunes Library along with an iPhoto Slideshow, I think this is related to the new 7.7 iTunes update.
My iPhoto by the way, is the last version - 6.0.6.
Has anyone else noticed a new-found inability to have songs in your iTunes Library accompany an iPhoto Slideshow? And better still - how can this be fixed?
    Thanks kindly,
    john

I just discovered that after the iTunes update and the Lion update, my iTunes wouldn't update anything except what was in the library already.  New songs, apps, movies all equaled bupkiss.  I went into advanced settings and saw that my library location was blank.  I'm using an external drive for my music.  So there's a bug, since it would play everything thing in the library but was unsure where the library was so that it could write to it.  I just relocated my media drive and now sharing and updating the library works fine.

  • Will  an iPhoto slideshow with music work on all computers in China?

I am making a promotional DVD for an education program in the US, and taking it to China to education fairs. If it is an iPhoto slideshow with music, will it work on all Chinese computers? I assume so, because since it is not video, I should not have to worry about different formats-right? I've got enough to worry about on this trip!
    Prof. Fisher

On every single computer in China? Impossible to tell. But if you create a slideshow in iPhoto and send it to iDVD to be burned to a DVD then it will play on anything that plays DVD.

  • Iphoto slideshow does not work after SL upgrade

Hi, i have a 2 month old macbook pro 3.06Ghz and after i upgraded to SL i have several problems: Toast does not work, my pretty new HP 4480 Photosmart Printer works but the scanner function not (error message comes up no connection to scanner), etc. but the biggest problem right now is that iPhoto does not work anymore. i use it a lot and i have over 20000 photos on it. before with leopard it was working fine, but now after scrolling through a few photos iphoto get stucked for a few minutes before it runs again. the slideshow feature doesn't work. i read a few forums about this or similar problems but all the advise didn't help. i reinstalled the iphoto from the original computer disc and later from a life 9 disc as well. first the slideshow works once or twice with only a few pics, but later it turns the slideshow on but get stucked and the only way to get out of the frozen screen is by turning the computer off (holding OFF button down). i did also verify disc permission and disc repair = no help. what can i do?

after 2,5 days (spending half a day within the apple shop as well with this problem) i have it all back on track.
i did a lot of different things: trying to remove and reinstall iPhoto; did a SL installation over the old SL I had on my HD; backing up all the data of course before and reformatting my HD and installing a new clean SL version on it + a new clean version of iLife9 with all the updates and than I migrate with migrate assistant all the data and setting with time machine back onto it, but all this didn't work, because it also migrated the error/bug through time machine with it.
so at the end i just installed a brand new, clean SL version on my hard drive, than I did the updates and put all my data, photos, docs, movies, mail, bookmarks, music, etc manual back into the system (drag and drop from my external HD, where i had an exact copy of my internal HD) and did all the settings again in all the different programs.
the only thing i used migrant assistant with time machine for was for the programs. it seems to work now all fine and i even got more free space on my HD, because some of the old stuff i always carried with me but i never used, i didn't take over.
basically everything is clean now. At least i hope and works fine. touch wood!

  • Since upgrading to OSx 10.9, I cannot place my music for iPhoto slideshows.  The only music that works is the Sample and Theme music that comes with iPhoto.  Any idea of what to do about this problem?

Since upgrading to OSx 10.9, I cannot place my music for iPhoto slideshows.  The only music that works is the Sample and Theme music that comes with iPhoto.  Any idea of what to do about this problem?

In iTunes go File -> Library -> Organise Library -> Reorganise Library.
    Then quit and restart iPhoto.

  • IPhoto slideshow music won't work after updates

I installed the two latest updates from Apple (iTunes and Quicktime, I think) yesterday evening, and now when I try to Share an iPhoto slideshow as a QT movie, the music doesn't come through. I used Disk Utility to repair disk permissions, but that didn't help. I send slideshows to my friends all the time -- this problem occurred only after the latest updates were installed so I know that one (or both?) is the problem. I am really frustrated! Is there anything I can do other than wait for Apple to offer an update to their update?
iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Just installed latest updates from Apple

Are you able to open iPhoto's preferences easily? That and the music issue was a bug in an earlier version of iPhoto 7. Be sure you've updated to 7.1.3 and have applied the iLife Support 8.2 updater.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. • IPhoto slideshow using mini-dvi to video adapter

When using the mini-dvi to video adapter to connect to my widescreen tv (via composite), to show iPhoto slideshows, the transistions between slides dont apear and there are no ken burns effects. The slideshow runs fine on my MacBook display (ie when not conected to the tv), and the is no other distortion or flickering (as reported in other threads), this seems odd to me or is it just a limitation of analogue output.
    2Ghz MacBook, White   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It means that the issue resides in your existing Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto slideshow on tv

I'm trying to watch an iphoto slideshow on my tv. so I bought a "mini-dvi to video adapter" but when I connect it to my tv via the video connector (yellow) all I see is my wallpaper and nothing else, no mouse pointer movement, files opening or anything else, just my wallpaper, I can't see my iphoto slideshow either. any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
    P

Try hooking up the MacBook to the TV with the MacBook off and then boot it up. Also with the TV connected to the MacBook go into the System Preferences/Monitors pane. There should be an option to set the monitor and TV. Don't remember exactly what it looks like as it only comes up if there's an external monitor or projector connected. There may be a setting that needs to be changed.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. • Apple TV no longer plays iPhoto slideshows (individually)

I have been using AppleTV for a couple of years, primarily to play iPhoto slideshows to music on our TV's. With a recent update (either to Apple TV, iTines or iPhoto, not sure, but I think it changed after an Apple TV update) we can no longer watch our individual iPhoto slideshows (By individual slide shows, I mean we used to be able to choose what slide show or album we wanted to play with music on the Apple TV. i.e.: vacation slideshow, birthday slideshow, Christmas slideshow, etc...) Now when you select what photos you want to share in iTunes, I check those albums & slideshows I want available but some do not appear on Apple TV  and those that do appear are automatically combined (for example it will combine Vacation and Christams slideshows into one massive slide show and their is no way to select one or the other.) Until a month or two ago this was not the case. I know I can create slideshows and save them to iMovie/iTunes or burn to disc but I do not want to do that, I like keeping them in iPhoto so they can constantly be added to and altered, thats the fun of it!
Any ideas or known fixes would be appriciated. I love how Apple is always changing things for the better, but every so often they update software and end up taking away features that I use! It can be frustrating!
Thanks in adavnce for your help!

I cannot figure out how to move or convert an existing 'slideshow' to an 'album'. (in the end, all I really need to do is move the pix from a given slideshow to an album so I can view it as a slide show on Apple TV) I don't mind if the slideshows are shuffled on the TV as long as I can keep each slide show seperate. I basically use my iPhoto slideshows as a drop off point so we can watch them on Aplle TV. I never really do much with them in iPhoto except add new photos to existing shows now and then, I had the slideshows set to shuffle on Apple TV anyway. If I could figure out how to convert each slide show to its own album that would probably work. (re-creating each slide show is not a good option since some of my family slideshows contain hundreds or in some cases over a thousand photos). I've tried dragging the slide show to "albums" catagory but that doesnt work.
Thank you for the quick response!

  • IPhoto is not working in my 5s. What should I do

Changed my phone from 4s to 5s and now iPhoto is not working. When I open it it says" the photo library of this device is updating"

Have you restarted your iPhone?  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
    Restart the app
Close the app and open it again.
    Restart your device
Turn the device off and on.
If that does not help, reinstall iPhoto - that fixed the same problem for me, but that will delete the iPhoto library, so your journals and slideshows will be lost. You may want to make a backup of your iPhone before you try that.
    Reinstall the app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it. Remember that deleting an app also deletes its data.
    Delete the app.
    Press the Home button.
Go to the App Store and download the app again.
Wait for the app to download, then open it from the Home screen.
If the download stops, you can resume it.
If even reinstalling iPhoto does not help, restore your iPhone:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281

  • How do I save an iPhoto slideshow on my macbook air externally?

I have a macbook air (no CD slot) and am unsure how i can save an iPhoto slideshow externally from my mac.
In the past (on my packard bell laptop) I have always burned photos to a dvd and feel comfort knowing I have the pics externally  if anything should happen to the laptop.
I am still within my 14 day money back for the mac and am unsure whether i should change it for a macbook pro which has a cd slot.
Anybody any ideas how I can solve my problem and keep my macbook air?
Also, does my iPhoto slideshow stay in the iCloud?  Not sure how iCloud works.
    Thanks in advance.

Get yourself an external Hard Drive - USB, Thunderbolt, whatever your machine has ports for - and make back ups to that. DVD and other optical media is going the way of the floppy disk and in 5 years time you'll find it hard to get any machine with a built-in optical drive.
Once you get the drive make sure it's formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - you do this with Disk Utility
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
You can also export the slideshow - File -> Export -  this process makes a movie of it.

  • IPhoto fix that worked for me (Coregraphics & Adobe Color Profiles issues)

Ok, I posted a few days back in reference to getting help with my iPhoto. I do apologize on the fact this is quite the long post but maybe it will be easy to understand for those who are like me and not all that computer literate. I searched all the discussions and used all the different advice from different people but had no luck. I was able to FINALLY get iPhoto up and running again last night after doing just a few simple things. Please note that this may not work for everyone. Also please note that I AM NOT an expert in dealing with computers and working with computers. It's just that my ADD kicks in when something needs fixing and I won't stop till its finished. Below are a few lines from the crash report that I was getting each time I attempted to open iPhoto from my Macbook Pro Late 2011 running 10.8.3.

-Run and attempt to repair any Color Profiles that may need to be fixed. There were 4 that could not be fixed for me. Locate these profiles and move them to your desktop (Note: I was still able to open and use all applications in my Adobe CS6 Master Collection after moving these profiles but you may want to check just to be sure if you are using Adobe).
-Even though I had done this many times, run the Disk Utility App in your Utilities Profile and Verify and Repair any permission needed (For me, I had none at this time that needed to be repaired).
-Next, I did an Apple Hardware Test. For me and the model Macbook Pro I am using, I had to restart my computer and when the screen went black for me at restart about the time the start up sound is about to come on, I pressed ALT-D. On some models you just have to press D. I did disconnect everything prior to doing this except the power cord and the Internet. I did a full AHT test that took about an hour or so. If you get an error code, be sure and right it down whereas your issue may be something different than mine and this will not apply to you. There were no problems from the test and then restarted the computer.
-At restart I decided to get into the OS X Recovery by pressing Command-R to either start from scratch or find some other way to fix the issue because I was tired of racking my brain on this and was about to throw the computer in to the wall.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 For help or questions on the OS X Recovery Process
-Once in the OS X Recovery from the Mac OS X Utilities Pane, I selected reinstall and then I selected my current Hard Drive. Luckily by doing this (not that I was aware or anything, but none of my files or folders were deleted and it only reinstalled Mountain Lion and whatever else it needed)
-This process took about an hour and once finished, I restarted my computer
-I logged back in to my account but did not attempt iPhoto at this time. Instead I immediately checked to make sure that 10.8.3 was what was reinstalled back on my Mac. I then checked for Software Updates which I had a few and installed these updates.
-I then went back to the Disk Utilities App from my Utilities folder and Verified the Disk and Disk Permission. To my surprise, many of the files that were in the iPhoto crash thread (posted above) were now showing up as needing to be repaired. I repaired what needed to be repaired.
-I verified all my Color Profiles to make sure none were showing up again (which there were none that needed to be repaired)
-I did a check check of some Adobe CS6 Apps just to verify they were opening and working correctly
-I restarted my Mac (Once again) and logged back in. I opened up iPhoto and everything worked and is working PERFECTLY. I then re-connected my printers and my Time Machine and performed a back up before importing photos back in to iPhoto. I DO WISH NOW THOUGH THAT I HADN'T DELETED AND RE-INSTALLED IPHOTO but it is nice being able to start over and organize iPhoto a little better than before.
I am sorry this is such a long post but for people like me who are not professionals in the computer department, sometimes it's good to "dumb" things done so that us "average joes" can understand a little better. Hopefully this will work for those who are having issues like mine. Thanks for all the help from everyone from my previous posts.

It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
