Iphoto slow down by yosemite

Upgraded to Yosemite and now Iphoto takes 20 to 30 seconds to open, before it was about 2 to 3 seconds

iPhoto is now obsolete by Apple and with the release of Yosemite, and will no longer be updated.
The new app will be Apple's 'Photos' app which is being ported across from iPhone iOS. This change means that whenever you snap a photo on your iPhone it will automatically be available on your MAC. It is still in beta phase at the moment, however.

You need more ram. But has it really been 3 months since you rebooted this computer? Restart it once in awhile and some of that slowness might go away.

  • IPhoto slow down my Mac

i've not upgraded to 9.5 jet but in this last month my iPhoto gives some problems to my Mac, i run it on a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook Unibody 2010 with OCZ Agility 3 128 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM, the problem is that when i work on my photos (RAW photos, 30/40MB each) the CPU is still working at 100 % and the Mac very slow down and freezing, it freeze when i change from a photo to another, i don't know if the problem is on the iPhoto cache or on the "faces" function but it's a problem, has someone tthe same issue? i have this issue from about 3 weeks, my iPhoto library weight it is about 15/20 GB

Create a new Library. Import a few shots. Does the same problem exist?

  • IPhoto slow down

I have a MacBook Air with latest upgrade. I use IPhoto '11 (with latest upgrade) a lot and it's been working fine.  All of a sudden it has slowed down to a crawl.  It accesses my library on my external hard drive (lots of room) without a problem.  Did I accidently delete something?  If I delete and reinstall iPhoto, I don't think I lose the library, but do I lose events?  Coincidentally my Scan Snap stopped scanning at the same time.  All my other apps seem to be working fine.

Well I'm glad as "pooped out" and "gets stuck" are serious issues I'm sure.
However, I'm not at all sure that you needed to make multiple Libraries. iPhoto 11 is good for 1,000,000 items in any one Library. But as I'm not sure what those terms mean it's hard to be sure...

  • IPhoto slows down my computer

Is there an alternate program to iPhoto that I can use to manage my digital image library? I used to use CompuPic Pro, which ran very nicely, but they don't make a Macintosh version anymore. I was really happy with how CompuPic ran on Windows machines as well. But I am super disappointed with iPhoto. It slows down my entire computer, and the program itself runs painfully slow. I have about 9000 images, which I really didn't think was that much. I can barely use my computer when iPhoto is running, it is sooooooo frustrating, I can't even enjoy my collection of images anymore. Please help!

    Marc,
You might have been bitten by the Maker note bug.

  • Mac Pro slow down after Yosemite 10.10.2 upgrade

    Upgraded in January.
I get the spinning color wheel all the time.  Programs crash.
I've run adware medic a few times, and etrecheck.
First run through, adware found Genio.
Since then, it hasn't.  Etrecheck still says it sees it, but Adware doesn't. Still no good.
    I reset SMS and PRAM.
This machine is slow. Previous to the upgrade, this machine was very fast!

  • Macbook Pro 2010 slowing down

I have had my MBP for almost a year now.  It seems to be slowing down.  I have 4g ram, 500 gig 7200 rpm hd, 2.4ghz processor and am running OSX 10.6.7.  I use my MBP quite frequently using programs such as Microsoft Office 2011, iPhoto, iMovie and several others.  I partitioned my hard drive so I have 350 gigs on the MAC side and 150 gigs on Bootcamp. I am a recent convert from Windows and I know that there are defrag programs for Windows and utilities to "clean it up" and speed it up.
Are there programs available for Mac to do the same thing?  I am having more and more problems with iMovie and iPhoto slowing down considerably.
    Any suggestions?

  • Hello, I have iMAC 7,1, 20 inch, 4gigs of ram, Intel C2D perfectly runing OS Mavericks (10.9.5), will update to Yosemite, slow down my iMac?

    Hello, I have iMAC 7,1, 20 inch,
    4gigs of ram,
    Intel C2D
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    HDD 320gig's
iMAC is perfectly runing OS Mavericks (10.9.5), with no lag, and no sluggish working, Multitasking is AWESOME (i have PC, with 8gigs of RAM, GeForce GTX570, etc etc), but i must say this MAC is running way better   a way way, faster and I am Loving it!!! I am using it for making music, and video editing, i am Using Final Cut Pro x, Ableton 9, Logic Pro x, and bunch of other apps and it is working perfectly, and i am so shocked how machine old like this can do that stuff better than any PC i had, and not to mention that I use more time on iMAC than on PC, i use Windows PC just for occasional gaming, but that is like 10% of time, so i use my MAC in 90% of time.
So, enough of my iMAC. I am wondering if I update it to Yosemite, will my iMac slow down, and not continue to work like on Mavericks? Will it become sluggish and unresponsive? Will it affect reliability and stability which  have on Mavericks? And will update delete my personal data (tons of Logic, Ableton and Garage band projects, and tons of Final Cut Pro projects), Applications (because I have some apps which is hard to find these days)...
I know bunch of you guys would tell me to backup my data, but i don't have External hard drive (they are pretty expensive in my Country), I have some friend who could borrow me External HDD, but they have their data on it, and they mostly use windows.. I did not use Time Machine yet, but i think probably it would format HDD on Macs partitions, so, i will do it on my own guys (don't judge me about that guys please)..
So if someone could answer me that, i will really appreciate that.
    Thank you, and best Regards!!
    Boris

I recommend you upgrade your RAM to at least 8 GB for good performance with the apps you're using. Also keep a minimum of 25-30 GB of free space on your boot drive for optimal system and application performance.
The maximum RAM a 7.1 iMac can address is 6GB, the OP can keep one of the 2GB DIMMs and then add a matching 4GB DIMM. If  the OP decides to do this, please only purchase from Crucial or OWC at www.MacSales.com.
However as described on a 8 year old iMac, I'd stay with Mavericks and then when considering upgrading upgrade to a more up-to-date Mac.

  • Upgrade to Yosemite Slowed down computer substantially

    Hi All,
I recently upgraded my MBP (mid-2009) to Yosemite.    I noticed that people have been using EtreCheck to determine what is the root cause of these Yosemite upgrade slowdowns.   My issue is that I am having difficulty interpreting the output file.   Any help and recommendations would be appreciated.

  • Iphoto library seems to slow down my new MacPro.

so far no one at at the Apple store can have a solution why the new MacPro is RATHER  slow.
some did suggest that the iphoto library MAY BE  too big...
also, when I work with it ..( it contains over `12000 items) ..it machine works hard and slow.
    who can help ?
    establish another library ?
safe the pics on an external harddrive ?
    appreciate your ideas and help,

Open the Activity Monitor when iPhoto is slowing down your Mac and see what processes is soaking up all the CPU cycles.  Also check the Console for messages during that time.  It can also give info as to what's slowing things down.
Do you have any anti virus software installed or have used MacKeeper, CleanMyMac or similar type of software on your Mac?

  • Mac Mini 2011 slow down after updating to Yosemite

    Hi all!
After updating my Mac Mini (half 2011) from Mavericks to Yosemite, it became extremely slow and unresponsive. I have to wait a lot of time for apps to open and commands, like clicking a button, to be executed executed. File Vault, that I read is a common cause of slow down, is NOT enabled.
What should I do? In these cases, for my Windows PC, I insert the OS DVD and format: what's the equivalent operation for a Mac?
Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Since downloading OS X Yosemite I have been having issues with Netflix. Video slows down which causes the audio to go out of sync. Netflix plays ok on ipad which makes me think it's the software which is the issue. Has anyone else had this issue?

Since downloading OS X Yosemite I have been having issues with Netflix. Video slows down which causes the audio to go out of sync. Netflix plays ok on ipad which makes me think it's the software which is the issue. Has anyone else had this issue?

    Try this:
Go to System Preferences - Bluetooth. Delete the keyboard from the list of devices by pressing the "-" button. Take the batteries out of the keyboard and reinsert them. In Bluetooth Preferences press the '+" button to add the new device. If the keyboard begins to pair, click the word "pair" and type in the passcode. Press return. The keyboard is now paired.
If the mouse is not pairing, try this: shut down the computer completely, unplug any USB mice, then turn off the power to the bluetooth mouse.  ONce the computer starts up again, wait for the pop-up looking for a mouse.  Turn on the power to the bluetooth mouse.  It should work normally now.

  • IPhoto is slowing down my computer

I have 46,578 photos (iPhoto 11) taking up 218.9 GB on a 1TB extrenal hard drive.  When I have iPhoto open, everything on my system slows down.  I get the little spinning pinwheeel constantly in every program.  When iPhoto is closed, thinsg run perfectly.
What is the best way to resolve this issue?  Shoudl I split my iPhoto library into two spearte librarys and if so, how do I do that?  Or shoudl I use Aperature to manage photos  Any other thoguhts or solutions?
    Thanks

Then I would try and rebuild the main library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
