Iphoto so slow i can't do anything
iPhoto and I are not friends and have not been for a long time. I open the program, it thinks... and thinks... it is so slow, I can't actually even get past the thinking. Right now, I am trying to sync my iPhone... and iPhoto is thinking and thinking and thinking about whether I have photos to upload. It has been thinking for 20 minutes.
Any thoughts on the nature of the problem or the fix?
What version of iPhoto? How much free disk space do you have? How much RAM? Is OS X 10.5.6 the correct version of your OS?

Trouble using since last update/slow to can't load anything
Ever since the last update when I am using Foxfire it's been extremely slow. I thought it may have just been my PC since it's older. I de-fragged and did a disc clean-up but it just got worse. My son's laptop is almost brand new he has a "ton" of memory on it and his also is running slow. Today my PC won't even open anything up with Foxfire. How can I remove the update?

I Upgraded my iphoto and now I can't do anything with it!
I upgraded to the iphoto 9.2.3 and ever since I did I can launch it and look at one or two pictures and it crashes. I am running OSX Lion 10.7.3. I would be happy to submit and further info that would help. I also did uninstall the Dvix. Still same problem. Very frustrating to say the least.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Slow Startup / Can't do anything
Dear people,
Today my MBP 2008 suddenly froze. I thought a restart would to the trick but the restarting took a terrible time (about 10 minutes). After it appears to be finished nothing can be done with the laptop.
I tried restarting a few times and every time it goes like this:
First I see the white screen with the apple logo.
After 2-3 minutes a blue screen shows with a mouse pointer (which I can move)
After a while my desktop background shows and a while later my nav-bars show and it starts showing my desktop icons.
Clicking the finder icon, apple logo in the top-bar of any desktop icon doesn't have a response...
I tried booting in Safe Mode but it starts showing me the Apple logo with a load bar that doesn't fill for 10 minutes after which I aborted the boot procedure.
Does anyone have a clue what might cause this problem or suggestions how to deal with it?
Thank you very much,
edit1: tried resetting PRAM/NVRAM on boot but nothing has changed

I do have a Time machine backup from some time ago so most I can restore with that.
Right now (at terrible speed :S) I'm making back-ups of everything recently created and necessary for day-to-day business. HOpe that works out and that the files copied will not be corrupt...
How sure are you that its a HDD problem and not, for instance a RAM problem or something?
I do absolutely trust your knowledge but before I start ordering a new HDD I would like to be sure the HDD is the problem. If so, can it be replaced with any 2.5" SATA drive < 9.5 mm height?
Thanks for your help! -
i currently have a macbook 2.1xersion 10.6.8 and want to update. what can it support? Everything i try, it won't support! I can't even download IPhoto! I can't open anything in my ICloud account either! its not on my current browser nor am i able when logging onto my ICloud account. Can anyone give me some advice besides buying a newer laptop?
Lion 10.7.5 is as far as you can go. You must have at least 2 GBs of installed RAM.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. Or you can order directly on the online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply. -
My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything!
My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything! It used to crash when importing but now I'm at the point where I open the software and after 2 seconds it crashes (nothing connected either). What to do? Can't access any photos
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create a new library and import some test photos then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If iPhoto crashes while trying to create a new library then try this:
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that fails to help a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all relavant updaters.
P.S. If you're still running Tiger, 10.4.6, then the above may not apply. If you're running a newer system you should update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're at.

Someone PLEASE help me! I cant figure out what is going on with my computer. I don't install anything weird, but my brother does. He's very good at computer tech stuff and is in I.T, but I cant help but blame him for all the problems my Mac is having. Nothing works like it should. My safari will randomally crash, my screen will randomally turn back, my iphoto will crash during uploading from my iPhone, I cant highlight anything, I can't drag anything. When I want to click on something, I have to click over and over again just for it to even register. I know everything is up to date and recently reset my PRAM. I'm running Lion and have a lot of room on my hardrive. I have an external harddrive and I'm wondering if I should just move all of my important files over to it and completly wipe out my computer's hardrive and start from scratch.
Some folks can't leave well enough alone, and insist on downloading all sorts of additional "stuff" that ends up making their Mac unstable.
Standard Mac OS X on properly-operating Hardware does not crash, unless you start installing too many add-ons.
You can run "just the basics" by holding down the Shift key at Startup. This does one pass of Disk Repair, then loads a minimal set of extensions, and comes up in Safe Mode. If it works OK that way, but crashes in "regular", it's the add-ons.
There ia another layer of add-on junk that can be added to Safari. If the only remaining problem is Safari crashing, those add-ons can be disabled as well. -
I am using iPhoto 11 and my library has 736.5mb on disk. I have problems with iPhoto stalling and needing to force quit. I have rebuilt my library. Can you suggest anything else? Thanks, Rose

1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your

NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that does'nt help log into another user account on your Mac and try iPhoto from there. -
hi,my name is kutan.since i updated ios7 on my ipad;internet got very slow,i can not open facetime no more,i can not download or update anything from apple store! so this is just redicilous! please any help?
It is hardly Apple's fault that Epson can't/won't update their driver, but at least Epson suggest that you use the Gutenprint driver, which in any case is far better that what Epson offer.
You can get it here:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/
You can download the latest version from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/
Have you downloaded the recent Apple update to Epson drivers?

My macbook pro has slowly been getting worse over the last few months, it takes ages to load up when i turn it on, and whenever i try to click on something (google chrome, itunes, etc) i get the rainbow wheel for an unknown amount of time, its so slow! i can barely do anything on it, im having to upload this question on my ipod because i cant use my mac, ive had the mac for about 4 years, and i dont think its anything to do with the memory, any help would be very grateful!
Sounds like it might be your hard drive.
Go to Applications -> Disk Utility, select your hard drive, and click on the "Info" button and see what is reported for your S.M.A.R.T status at the bottom of the screen: -
I have just upgraded to OS X Mavericks. It wanted me to upgrade my 20000 photos before the New iphoto could use them. I did. 43.6GB of photos became 1.8GB of very small photos of arounf 178KB instead of 2.5MB. Can't do anything with them. Help?
The obvious and simple solution is to restore from the back up you made before upgrading.
Other than that you'll need to give us a lot more detail. Mavericks doesn't ask you to upgrade your Photos, upgrading to a later iPhoto asks you about upgrading the Library. Where is the library? What version were you upgrading from? Anything else you can tell us that might help understand the problem you're having. -
I try to pull up photos in iPhoto and it shows a big "!" I can still see the photo, I just can't do anything with it or view it larger. What happened? Help! Thank you!
This is what I found, Idon't know if it will help, but I'll send them anyway.
