Iphoto stalls when buying photobook

Hi
I'm using iphoto on a mac book pro (i7, purchased Aug 2014, fully upgraded).
I've created a photo book and am trying to buy it, but iphoto stalls on the "Your Order" page - none of the links/buttons do anything - except Cancel. I've checked activity monitor and nothing's happening in the background. iphoto doesn't seem to be using the network (i.e. it's not uploading in the background). I'm not getting any 'spinning wheel' or anything - just a big fat nothing happening.
I've already successfully created and bought one photo book. Created this second one in exactly the same way, but experiencing this issue.
Any suggestions for fix/diagnostics please?
Thanks in advance - Al

Hi
Tried again - same outcome.
I also looked at repairing the library as per 20025134#20025134, but this hasn't worked either.

• IPhoto stalls when I try to open a slideshow..can't even force quit

I began creating a slideshow in iphoto yesterday and during editing of a video clip within the slideshow, iphoto completely froze up & I let the color wheel spin for literally hours. I did a force quit and now every time I open iphoto and click on my slideshow title to open it, iphoto goes into stall mode...can't do anything...can't even use the menu to force-quit. Have to right click iphoto icon at bottom and force quit that way. What can I do to either delete the slideshow and start over, or open it to begin with?? I can't even seem to delete it. When I search for the slideshow by name, in finder, etc. it's non existent. I had just begun so I'm not bummed if I lost it or it wasn't saved to begin with, but it's just annoying to have iphoto stall on me over and over. Thanks for any ideas! I'm a new mac user so it's all greek to me!

• IPhoto: solution when "buy book" generates an error.

Hello all,
I thought I post this. Maybe this will help others who face the same problem.
I created a book in iPhoto. After clicking the "Buy Book" button, I received the message:
There was a problem contacting the Apple online store. Please try again.
I searched the internet and found several other people having the same problem.
Several solutions were also given like:
1. Temporarily tun of the firewall
2. Be sure the select, in Preferences in iPhoto under Advanced the book store that matches the country of your Apple ID
3. Be sure to have the correct and valid credit card data entered in your Apple ID
4. Be sure the password of your Apple ID is correct
5. Go to iTunes, "purchase" a free App and if you are prompted to accept Apples policy, do so and try again to buy your book
6. Apple online store may be down or to busy, try again on a different time.
However, none of these solutions worked for me.
After digging further I finally found the solution (at least for me).
If you have ever made, in System Preferences => Language and Text, under Formats any change, than "Region" will show "Customized" instead of your country. I live in the Netherlands, the default for short date is to show years in two digits. I changed this once (in the past) to show dates with four digits years.
Resetting "Region" to match the country of your Apple ID did the trick.
I was then able to order my book in iPhoto.
Kind regards,
emeu1

• BUG! iphoto stalls when trying to create a book and no event is selected

however, works fine when trying to create a book and an event or an album is selected... obviously a bug.

Solution - do not do that
and report to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
But it is likely that updates for '09 are over since it is a couple of years old and '11 is out

• Edit in iPhoto when in photobook mode when have external editor

I have not figured out a way to edit in iPhoto when in photobook mode. No matter what, it jumps me to the external editor. Sometimes I just want to crop my photo into a portrait orientation from landscape or vice versa so the photobook treats it that way for layout purposes. Especially with the copying issue going on now with an external editor, this is becoming annoying. It takes a little while for my external editor to load the photo anyways.... and all that malarky for cropping it?
Please help!!!
Maybe I could turn off external editor for my default, but would that mean I wouldn't be given the option to edit in an external editor????

I did try that and that seems to work.... but still it seems that in photobook mode, you are limited to only one editor.... whatever you have made as your default editor in your preferences. So, I suppose each time you want to do an edit in the external editor (if set up like as discussed above), you need to go into your preferences and switch it around, then back again once the edit is done.

• Progress freezes when buying an iphoto book

Hiya,
I have created a book for my Nan's birthday and when I went to buy it the transferring data progress bar froze at about 1.20mb. I cancelled and tried again, this time it got to about 7mb (out of about 9mb) and froze so I decided to leave it incase it was just buffering or something. About three minutes later the transfer closed itself down but iPhoto and the 'Buy it now' page stayed up. I'm worried that if I keep clicking 'buy now' and repeating the process to see if it does work then I'll keep forking out the money each time. I didn't get any kind of confirmation page. Will it have charged me twice? an why is it freezing?
Thanks, Leonora

You probably will not be charged and if you were Apple would give you a prompt refund

• I cannot update the iphoto ap on my mac os x because it looks for the ID I used when buying it and I forget the password to that

I cannot update the iphoto ap on my mac os x because it looks for the ID I used when buying it and I forget the password to that email.
The emails is obsolete so I cannot get the password from the service provider.
I have another Apple ID and password which I use - but it won't let me update the iPhoto I bought with THIS cMac

Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

What is the problem with IPhoto ´11 when I am uploading a photobook to apple store, there is always an error. Anyone ???
evrything is right wite my appleID.

First try to create a pdf file of the book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it.
If you are unsuccessful in creating the pdf file then boot into Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode and try again. If that works you can continue and order the book while in Safe Mode.
Be sure to keep the pdf file of the book to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.

• IPhoto stalls entire system when importing photos

Just ran into this issue on my new iMac. I have been trying to import a group of photos (either by drag and drop or import menu item). It's a group of 17 pictures, a mix of tif and jpeg, that I'd like to import as a single "Event". Every time I try it, not only does iPhoto stall (the spinning wheel) but also the entire system becomes completely unresponsive. I can move the cursor, but that's about it. I can't force quit anything. It requires a hard reboot (holding down the power button).
This is very strange and irritating. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
thanks,
Tim

Tim:
Try the "easy" fix first: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. See if that will help.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

• When buying a hardback photo book, do they always come with a slip cover?

I'm about to buy my first photo book from iPhoto, but when I switched from soft to hard cover, I noticed the flaps. For the outside of the photobook, is the front & back only covered by a slip, or are the pictures printed on the actual cover as well??

Hard cover book all come with a book jacket. I don't remember if the cover photo is on the actual cover or not but I don't beleve so. I gave away as gifts all of the books I've ordered so can't check. The title is printed on the spline of the book, but only the first line if there's more than one link on the dust jacket.

I moved my iPhoto to an external USB Harddrive and everything at first worked fine. Now I get these errors sometimes "Your iPhoto Library is missing". iPhoto will exit and when you start it again everything is fine. What I think is happening is the external USB drive has gone to sleep due to inactivity. Is there a setting in OS X that I can control this with ? I ugly hack would be to set up a cron job to do a ls of the root external USB drive every 15min. Is there a special feature that you should look for when buying an external USB drive ? It is very iratating to get these messages from iPhoto and iTunes.
