IPhoto Start problem

When starting iPhoto I get the message:
"There are 43 photos in your mediathek that have not been imported. Do you want to import them? "
YES triggers a new album in iPhoto, that is empty
NO triggers the following message: "The photos have been stored in users/username/pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_xy" with xy increasing each time I start iPhoto. This file is empty as well
How can I get rid of this annoying behaviour please ? Thank you for your help

Close iPhoto, open the iPhoto Library (located in your Pictures folder) with the Finder as shown in this screenshot:
Look inside the Auto Import folder for any files that might be in there and move them to the Desktop.  Don't make any other changes to the inside of the library package.
Close the package and launch iPhoto.  The message should be gone.  Check the files that you moved to the desktop to see if there are photos you want to keep and import into iPhoto. If not you can delete them.

  • Why whenever I turn on an external HD, iPhoto starts up?

I have an MB Pro, 2.33, with a number of FW and SATA drives.
I'm wondering why suddenly when I turn on an external HD, iPhoto starts up?
    thanks,
    elmer

The bigger problem is that your external HD's are probably formatted in FAT16 (or maybe even FAT32) format, which may cause other filename-related problems down the line. iPhoto will be triggered to launch because these formats are most commonly used for camera media cards, and detecting them as externals typically points to media cards.
If your external HD's are dedicated to Macs, you might want to consider moving your data out, reformatting with Mac OS X Extended format (journaled) and then putting your data back on.

  • IPhoto 6 Problem...

Just a few minutes ago, my IPhoto started acting funny. Whenever I run my cursor across a picture it disappears, leaving a gray-dashed box around where the picture once was. If I click on this box my picture is still there...i restarted my macbook and it has continued to do this. What is going on!?
I have also been having a problem where when my computer goes to sleep, and then requires a password, the laptop will then freeze and go to a black screen after I put in my password...any suggestions?!

I faced a similar problem and think this happens when you have images with the same name and you have either deleted or moved one of them (the one that iphoto is looking for). i followed a very tedious method to address this -moved all my images to a different folder, removed all copies, then deleted the ones that existed in iphotos library, and then reimported the images again. now it seems to be working fine.
let me know if you find a better solution.

  • IPhoto Calendar Problems

I haven't seen this posted so I apoligize if I missed it somewhere.  When I attempt to make a calendar with iPhoto I come across a problem.  I select my photos, click create, and am given the option on how many months, etc.  When I click OK nothing happens.  When I hit cancel and try to look at any of my photos they are blurry when you enlarge them.  This stays this way until I quit iPhoto (which sometimes takes a few minutes), then everything is back to the way it was.  I am running Lion and iPhoto 11.  All software is up to date and I am using the newest iMac.  Startup and editing work just fine.  iPhoto starts up in just a couple of seconds and I have nearly 25,000 photos.  If I open a different iPhoto libray I can creat a calendar just fine.  I have also rebuild the library and repaired permissions.  Any advice would help.  Thank you very much.

go to your account in the apple store (store.apple.com) and re-enter all of your information and be sure one click ordering is on
exactly what error message do you get? exactly what problem are you having sending to a different shipping address - expecially confusing since you first say you can't order then say that you can't change the shipping address

  • IPhoto starts automatically with computer startup

I recently installed a new hard drive in my MacBook Pro. After the install, now every time I start the computer, iPhoto starts automatically. Is there a setting that I can change to stop this. It's not a big problem, just a little annoying.

try right clicking on the iPhoto icon in the dock and making sure that the option to "Open at login" is not set

  • IPhoto starts after a FW Drive plugged in

    Hi all folks,
since some weeks my iPhoto 5 and 6 starts all the time I plugged one of my external FW Drive to a Mac (formated with two partitions, FAT32 and HFS+).
I use USB Sticks and Drives (FAT and HFS+) and an other FW Drive (FAT32 and HFS+) too, but iPhoto starts only I plug one of my FW Drives to the Mac, the second one does not start iPhoto (same FW Drive).
How to switch this "function" off, what's the reason for this behavior.
    Thanks for any Help,
    Lutz

    Hi Terence,
Have you ever imported photos from that partition?
Hm, I think I have done this.
And have you tried the solution?
Yes, in general, but it is necessary to start iPhoto manually after I
plug a camera in, now. But this is not a problem.
My Problem is (was), I don't know what's the difference between a
USB Stick with FAT and a FW HD with FAT32. It's a little bit like voodoo, .
    Thanks for your explanation,

  • IPhoto launch problem

I have iMac G3 with iPhoto 4.0.3. Everytime I start iPhoto, it opens but right away it says loading photos and the little domino wheel is going. None of my photo's or albums or anything shows up,and everything is grayed out. Even if I connect camera and iPhoto starts, same result. If I start from my applications, does same thing. I've restarted computer, no help. I can download pictures with image capture, but they were downloaded individually in the library. I got to the library through the finder only, because iPhoto is locked with the rotating wheel and the comment "loading photo's". Thanks for any help.

The problem you had was a corrupt library -- meaning the database - the iPhoto Library Folder in your Pictures Folder.
You should now have two of these the original corrupted one and the new fixed one. You can delete the older one if the new one is fine. Make sure which one you delete.
This problem is caused by making changes directly in the iPhoto Library Folder. Leave this folder alone. Make all changes from the options working in iPhoto

  • Iphoto usability problems

Iphoto 7.01 has some glaring usability problems. These are the issues I've experienced.
If you have too many keywords, when you select the find by keyword option in the find box, the list of keywords goes off the screen, and there is no way to scroll through the list, rendering the search-by-keyword option useless.
Adding keywords in-line is cumbersome. If you want to tag a picture with the name John Smith, and you already have a keyword named John Apple, then iphoto automatically adds Apple after you type John. After a while this becomes maddening.
You can no longer move photos to the trash if you are in a smart album. This is very frustrating as it means you have to go into your main photo library and manually search for the photo you want to delete.
The search text box is buggy. When you click on the magnifying glass, the list that comes up is frequently in the wrong place.
In the Keyword Window (command+K) iphoto starts to alphabetize the keywords as you add them, and then after a while it starts putting them in random order.

I agree on your comments here.
I use Keywords alot, and the new way (without the ability to always have the keyword list up to use for sorting and assigning) is a pain in the butt from a usability perspective. Especially since the windowspace the keyword list sits in the prior version is just as free to be used by the keyword list as before.
Any keyword that is longer than a word or two (like "name 2005 birthday" and "name 2005 Mothersday") look exactly the same now ("name 200...") on the button list since the buttons are so scrunched (anyone with a long first or last name forget it) and I can't make them any wider. Same for assignment or selection. Had the keyword ordered to have your most common ones at the top and grouped together (like by family etc.), well that's gone. It's always alphabetical now.
Obviously alot of dev time went into this different way, but its a much less efficient and less usable a system. What a step backwards.

  • Iphoto starts when iphone connected with usb to Macbook

After I upgraded to Yoesmite, I have a problem with Iphoto and Iphone. Iphoto starts whenever my Iphone is connected with USB to my MacbookPro.
I often use USB connection so that my Iphone is charged while working outside my home. So it is quite annoying that Iphoto starts up everey time I connect mye Iphone with USB. I want to work and is not interested in Iphoto to clutter up my work and memory usage.
What can I do to prevent Iphoto from loading.

Yes all you have to do is open iPhoto on Macbook & select iPhoto Menu Preferences>Connecting Camera opens: "select" NO Application.
Now if you want to send photos from your iPhone & you have iCloud-photos sync turned off, you'll have to open iPhotos & re-select iPhotos
    in Preferences again.

  • Upon connection, iPhoto starts, not iTunes

I cant even activate the iPhone to get started, and i have the most current version of iTunes.
Why would iPhoto start upon connection?

do you know how to turn off image capture on XP? Three programs, Windows fax viewer, cannon camera window, and Adobe album starter all fight to download the pics off my iphone....untill today when my computer stopped recognizing my iphone all together. I read the troubleshooting section of the users manual and have reset the phone, restarted my computer, reinstalled itunes. I don't have the energy to restore all settings, the phone works good, but there won't be any sync-ing going on until I get this fixed. Problems have been happening ever since I purchased the PRO edition of Quicktime to convert my slideshows for the iphone. That still doesn't work, they come out pixelated and have no sound. One full day of dinking with that and my 400GB external started having delayed write failures and then I fixed it once by running the chkdsk utility, so it ran all night recovered almost everything--then after 20 minutes it completely crashed. My son recovered the data for me on his computer. Now the iphone won't sync. Any ideas?? you seem like a knowlegable sourse of info? Thx if you have the time!

  • Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2 try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2nd try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • Stop iPhoto starting up!

This is probably a fairly simple thing to do, but for some reason I can't get my head around it...
Is there a way to connect my iPhone to my mac without iPhoto starting up automatically? I do want iTunes to start, as this is set up to sync calendars, music, contacts, apps etc automatically, but I specifically set up photos not to sync at all, so don't need iPhoto to start!
It gets annoying when you have already imported photos from the iPhone into iPhoto, but because the photos are still on the phone it thinks you always want to import... help me!
    Thanks

In iPhoto > iPhoto menu > Preferences > General tab, set the 'Connecting camera opens:' pop-up to No Application. (Note: if you're using a version of iPhoto +prior to+ iLife '08, this setting is in Applications > Image Capture's preferences, instead of iPhoto.)
Note that this will apply to all cameras/memory cards - there's no way to make it specific to the iPhone.
Also note that if your Camera Roll is empty, iPhoto will not open. You can transfer any pics to iPhoto, delete from the phone at the end of the transfer, then re-sync them to the phone so they're in the iPhone's photo library not the Camera Roll. That's safer for the photos, and means that unless you've taken new pics, iPhoto won't open.

  • IPhoto starts every time we boot our MBP

iPhoto starts up every time we boot our MBP from a full shutdown. How do we make it stop?
    Thanks!

Since you are learning, when you right-click or ctrl-click on a dock icon, you will get a contextual menu. One of the Items is to have the program start at login. You may have accidentally done this with iPhoto which may explain how it got into the login items.

  • My iPhoto starts up very slowly.

My iPhoto starts up very slowly. Spinning beach ball for about 10-15 sec. before any photos load up. Have done everything that Apple Support has suggested. Works once or twice and back to the same thing again.

There have been two possible fixes for this:
1 - move the HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop and reboot. (see houseboat's post at the end of this discussion: spinning beachball suddenly every time now at launch )
NOTE:  this will remove your Mac's name from the System/Sharing preference pane.  Go that pane and reenter the name you gave the Mac originally. It can mess up  some sharing and LAN connections.
2 - Go into iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and remove any mail account that has been slow lately.  This helped a couple of users that had several mail accounts. However, I would consider it to be a last last chance option and if you had several accounts.  Be sure to take a screenshot of the settings for each mail account you might remove so you can add them back easily if the fix wasn't worthwhile.
