Iphoto storage help!

Hi everyone I am in desperate need of an answer please! I hope this makes sense.
I purchased a MacBook Air 1 year ago and can't imagine ever going back.
I own a childcare business and I need to store photo's on there everyday to docuent evidence of learning. With this being said it takes up alot of space on my hardrive.
I have been getting a warning that there is no memory left and then today it said that I couldn't even save a file.
I have a time machine so all my files are backed up to that but not sure if that backs up iPhoto.
I know I could put all my photo's on the Time machine however the reason I wanted the MacBook Air was I liked the iPhoto as it helps me manange the photo's under each child's name. It would be an impossible task otherwise. If I did save all my photo's to time machine it would undo all the names and I would loose all the fuctions of iphoto. I know I could open in Iphoto but essentially that would just be popping them back on there. I have gone through and delete what I can but only have 7.11 GB left. I have moved all my files of at this stage but I need to be able to have my computer running well at all times.
Here are my Questions.
Is ther a way I can move my photo's of my computer and be able to open them in Iphoto on the timemachine so all my named photo's stayed named etc.?
I have include a pic of my storage and as you can see! I am almost out of time! I have so much work to do and really need to sort this out!
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You get a USB external dirve and put the Library on it.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Time Machine is a piece of software. You don't put anythng "on" Tim Machine.

Need Help in iPhoto '11 Help??

Hi, i have updated my iPhoto '11 to Version 9.2.1 (628). And had to lookup a topic in iPhoto '11 Help, and it says "To see all iPhoto Help, you must be connected to the Internet". Then I tested Browse Help topics, and the result I get are all the same. So I quit the application. And restarted iPhoto '11. When into iPhoto '11 Help and pick any topic to test. The same "To see all iPhoto Help, you must be connected to the Internet". But I am connected to the Internet. Can somebody assist me.

Hi & many thanks for the reply. I made sure that iPhoto is not running by looking ito Force Quit Applications window. I did 2nd time, as instructed. Just to inform you, i can see and have iCal Version 4.0.4 (1395.7) Help which connects to the internet when i invoke a help topic in iCal. I can see and have Aperture V3.2.1 Help open the Safari to connect to the Internet to show Help topics and solutions. I can access, read, and point at any Help Topics of every application i have installed and with internet connection. Maybe I maybe describing the problem as the computer says it.
When I invoke iPhoto '11 Help, I can see the iPhoto '11 Help. But once I click say "Lesson 1..." I get the message of the Help on the right pane of the Help pane...

I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!

Additionally, I'd like to be able to take the 2000+ photos out of iPhoto and put them on a disk in a folder. I have managed to export them to the hard disk but it's just plonked all 2000+ photos in a list - not ideal if I want to use it for anything else. And then I have to manually delete the photos from iPhoto. Is there not a quick and easy way of dealing with this?
Anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks for your help!

I too would like to be able to do this. Just put them where i want the. IFTT a scripting app will put the images in dropbox for you , but its been pretty iffy.

Iphoto 6 help

Just upgraded to iphoto 6 and works fine except for the help topics, that for some reason keeps using iphoto 5 help ( when I click on "what's new" always shows iphoto 5 version ). Any ideas?

The solution was to clean up HelpViewer preferences and cache. Instructions for doing that are here: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/helpviewer.html
I only did steps 1-6.
Essentially, you trash the HelpViewer preference files:
com.apple.help.plist
com.apple.helpui.plist
com.apple.helpviewer.plist
Then trash Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.helpui folder.

When you next launch Help Viewer, you may notice that the Library
menu (Tiger, Panther), Home pop-up button (Tiger), or the Help
Center (Jaguar) lists Help for only a few applications. This is not a

RAW and Iphoto 09 help?

I recently purchased my first camera that uses RAW and I have read that Iphoto 09 helps with the RAW process. My problem is printing the pictures I have taken. I had my camera on Jpeg and tried to print but the pictures were grayer then a normal pic. I recently changed my cameras settings to RAW, so now Iphoto takes 2 images (as I read it should). So how can I print a picture from the camera in Jpeg or Raw the way I see it on screen? Do I need use another program like Apeture (plan to buy when I have the $), I have Photoshop CS, but I use that for edits mainly. I am looking for a simple way to print these nice pics. When I would "edit" the Jpeg pic in Iphoto it turns out nothing like I want on screen, since the original pic is what I want to print anyway. I tried "help" in Iphoto but was not really much help.
This whole Raw thing is new to me and I want to use it in the best way, like I use Final Cut.
Any help would be great!

You might want to Google on RAW. There’s a wealth of learning to be done on the subject. Here’s a pencil sketch.
You can only do one thing with RAW files, and that’s process them. RAW is not like other files. It’s a dump from the sensor on the camera. In the more common Point and Shoot cameras when you take a pic the camera processes the sensor dump by a predefined set of rules and saves the result as a JPEG.
What you’re now doing is creating your own set of rules for each pic. This is what you do when you edit the pic in iPhoto. The tools for doing this are on the Adjust pane.
You’re not seeing the RAW in the camera. Your seeing a jpeg preview.
As to colour matching, what colour profile have the pics and does it match what‘s on your printer?

I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon!

What version of iPhoto are you using? How do you plan to view the slideshow at the wedding reception, on a TV screen? If so then you will need to send the slideshow to iDVD and burn a disk from there.
If you're in iPhoto 11 and the slideshow was created in the slideshow mode and not from an album, then go to the Share menu and select iDVD. That will create a QT movie of the slideshow and import it into iDVD.
In iDVD select your theme and setup the menu as you'd like. If you want the movie to begin plahying immediately when the disk is inserted into the DVD player go into the Gallery mode and drag the movie into the Autostart bin at the left.

When you're finished setting upb the iDVD project save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will allow you to check it with DVD Player before tryingto burn to disk. Mount the disk imnage by double clicking on it and launch DVD Player and play. If the movie plays as you want and everything is good you can burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Iphoto 4 help replaced by iphoto 5 help

I'm using iPhoto 4.0.3 and when I go to the Help menu and select "iPhoto Help", all the information and screen shots are for iPhoto 5, which is really no help at all. How did this happen and how do I get my iPhoto 4 help back?

I have the same problem. When I search Help for "burn", it directs me to the "Share" menu. There is no "Share" menu in 4.0.3 .
There are operations specific to iPhoto 4 that I need to perform before upgrading to iPhoto 6. If I can't, then I may be stuck on iPhoto 4 for some time as I experiment with shots in the dark to find solutions.
How do I get the iPhoto 4 Help restored? Where did it go?

No connection for Iphoto purchases - help

hello all...try to post in iphoto forum and got no answer..hoping someone might have some ideas. i can not access apple to buy books, cards, calendars, or anything from iphoto. i'm running latest on iphoto and tiger. when i have assembled a book and hit the "buy book" icon, nothing happens. have also tried to purchase a photo or anything (thinking maybe had a corrupted book) and absolutely nothing happens. the icon grays a little and nothing. i have ability to get on the internet, download, upload, etc., but nothing from iphoto. i also killed all prefs, caches, etc. that are associated wuth iphoto. any HELP would be APPRECIATED......

Could your location be an issue?

If you click on the "Book" icon at the bottom of the iPhoto window, then click on the "Options & prices..." button, does it properly link to Apple's iPhoto books page? (This should be a link which is not directly associated with your Apple account, so it should work.)
Have you tried Repair Permissions using Disk Utility?
If you create a new user account and try again from there, does it then work properly?

First, copy your iPhoto Library to an external so that you have a backup.
Second, see if you can create a new Library and have it open. To do this, open iPhoto while holding down the Option key. It will ask which Library to use, or allow you to create a new Library. Save the new library with a different name from the old one.
If that does open with a new library, the old library is corrupt, but all the files are still OK.
If it is a corrupt Library, iPhoto Library Manager can repair some corruption, or transfer the Library over to a new one.

Help with IPHOTO storage vs. Google Drive

I presently store all my photos in Finder in a folder call Main Photos. I have tried to avoid synching to Iphoto, but the photos are showing up in Iphoto now. My question is, are the photos being stored twice? I have 110 GIG of photos ... help please.
I don't know if I am wasting 100 G of storage and I want to back up my photos, which is why I use Google Drive.

If you didn't uncheck the option to copy images to the iphoto library and you did import them into iphoto then yes they are being stored twice.
Before you import anything into iphoto you need to uncheck that option. It is in the iphoto preferences on the advanced page right at the top.
Go in and uncheck that option then close iphoto. Then open a finder window and delete the iphoto library file in the pictures folder in your user name folder. Then you can re-import your images into iphoto and it will leave your images where they are instead of copying all of them and just make a data base of the images.

IPhoto storage not disappearing when I delete photos! HELP

My iPhone 4S only has 16 GB and I wanted more storage. I noticed that my photos app costs 2.1 GB so I decided to transfer my photos to my MacBook Air via iPhoto. I then deleted all of those photos on my iPhone. So I still had my photos but on my macbook instead of my phone. I assumed that my 2.1 GB on my photos app would disappear and would say like 0 GB used but it still stays at 2.1 GB being used in my photos app yet I deleted all my photos!!!
I hope somebody knows why this has happened or knows how to fix it.

used: 3.2 GB and available 9.5 GB, that adds up to 12.7 GB so... what about the rest of my 16 GB what happened to the other 3.3 GB?

After an iPhoto upgrade - Lost iPhoto Pictures - HELP!

I was trying to transfer my photos from my Mac Air to my new Mac Book Pro and it did not seem to work. When I went back to my Air - I opened iPhoto and it told me to either update or quit. If I quit - I could do nothing When I hit update - I lost all my photos! Please help!

How did you transfer? Did you by any chance try to use a cloud storage for that and put your library into Dropbox folder or similar? Otherwise it is weird that trying to transfer from one mac to another would corrupt the original library.

Hi guys, i have a mac mini 2011 that i bought not too long ago from a private dealer. Recently apple came out with a new version of iphoto, but, i can't update it because the person i bought this from is still logged into i photo and i don't know his password. So i came up with a plan but i am not sure if it would work. If i transfer all my photos to my flashdrive then delete i photo from my computer and downloand it again, will it work? and will it forget about his account? Can i even download iphoto for free?

Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
     used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
     requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
     drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Carbon Copy Cloner
2. Get Backup
3. Deja Vu
4. SuperDuper!
5. Synk Pro
6. Tri-Backup

Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined. It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.) You can purchase hard drives separately. This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice. Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu. You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available. You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports. I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.) You can find enclosures at places such as;

6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover. Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.
