IPhoto suddently can't see my pictures...

I've hunted around the forum a bit and haven't found a question that fits my situation.
Yesterday I launched iPhoto and found that the application wasn't showing most of my photos. My library which normally has 3,000+ pictures was only showing 800 or so (all some of the first photos I imported) All my albums are there as well as the books I created, just no photos in any of the later albums. Interestingly, the thumbnail page images of the books I created show the pictures, but the edit screen shows gray blanks.
I tried rebuilding my libaries - no luck.
I tried one of the recommendations to move my library file to the desktop and reimport my images (I didn't describe this right, but it is one of the commoon recommendations) and I must not have moved the right file, because I did not see the same file options when I option clicked that the screen shot showed. The file options were the same as any other file.
Help! I have dozens and dozens of albums and I'd hate to have to recreate them all - especially if I am dealing with a corrupted file to begin with!
This occured just after I edited a photo and bought cards. I seem to remember the application having a hard time quiting and having to force restart.
Thanks
-Peter

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you run Disk Utility and verified the hard drive? It sounds like it may be something more than just iPhoto causing problems but a disk problem. If the verify indicates repairs are necessary you'll have to boot into the system install disk that came with you Mac and, in the first window after the language selection window, launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
How much free space do you have on your boot drive?
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

My photos shrink in size when emailed from IPHOTO or attached - How can I fix this. My friends say they can't see my pictures... thanks!!

When you email from iPhoto, you have a choice as to the size of the picture - choose medium and your friends will be able to see them.  By the way, do your friends click on the photo attachment  in the mail to open it?

  • Can't see full picture in photobook only the thumbnail on page view

I made a photo book of my wedding and everything looked good. Then one day i opened it up to look at it and order the book and now all i can see for one of the pictures is the thumbnail at the top of the screen. It does not show up in the main view of the book and if i double click on the picture it goes to full screen and i see it for a split second then it dissapears to black. If I do a preview of the book that whole page of the book just shows up as a blank page.

What has happened is the iPhoto database file has been damaged/corrupted somehow. It can happen if the user has renamed or moved any files or folders inside the iPhoto Library from the Finder or if there's been some sort of interruption while iPhoto is writing to that file. Since you're already tried rebuilding the library unsuccessfully, I believe your only option is to create a new library and import the Originals folder from the old one as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. • Can't See My Pictures--Just Empty Boxes

I just did a download of new pics from my camera to iPhoto. Somehow during the download I can't see my pictures in my library or in my albums. Just empty boxes show up. The count of the number of pics is accurate for both the albums and the library.
I restarted my computer, and rebooted with no luck.
I did a reboot holding down the "apple" and the "alt" key, and followed instructions, and still no pictures.
Any ideas of what I can do?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What do you see in the library, empty thumbnail spaces or empty edit windows? Is it all the photos or just some? Check in the Originals folder to make sure you have the full sized image files in the subfolders. They should all be there. Also do you have folder in the iPhoto Library folder titled "Recent Imports" or something like that?
Do you have a backup copy of the iPhoto Library folder or the iPhoto library database file, Library6.iPhoto?
If not and since you've tried rebuilding the library with no success you're going to have to start with a new library and import the image files from the Originals folder of the current library. Here's how:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

If you have a recent backup copy of the library post back and we can go from there.

When I connect my iPad to my new Mac Pro, I can't see my pictures on iPhoto in Mac Pro under devices.I want to import my photos from iPad to Mac Book. Can you please help me?
    Thanks and regards,

Oops ... You are correct. I misread your question. My sincere apologies. You want to import the photos from the iPad into iPhoto - not the other way around.
Connect the iPad to the Mac with the cable and launch iPhoto. Your iPad should appears under the devices heading in iPhoto - in the left sidebar - just like it does in iTunes. Click on the iPad name. Then you can import the photos.

The pattern of pictures that I can see doesn't make sense either, even with the pictures taken on the same date- i can see some and can't see others. If anyone can offer any assistance, I will be VERY grateful!
    Thanks Again!

  • Can't see my pictures

I can't see me pictures in the preview.I see only one and the same picture in all my happenings. When I klick on it I can see the pictures I was looking for, but it isn't easy to look for a photo if you see all the same pictures or just black picture. It started after an update, and new updates did not solve my problem. Does anybody know what I can do,so I can look for my pictures just by passing by.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the options to rebuild the thumbnails.

  • How can I see which pictures have been backed up

How can I see which pictures have been backed up

All the pictures in your camera roll will be backed up in iTunes or iCloud (depending on whether you have iCloud backup enabled on your iPhone) every time a backup is performed. The other photos stored on your iPhone (i.e. the ones you didn't shoot using the iPhone itself) will NOT be backed up.
Nevertheless, it can't hurt to import them into iPhoto or Aperture (or whatever you're using) as roaminggnome suggested.

how can i see my pictures in  icluod

If you mean photo stream photos, you have to view them in iPhoto or Aperture if your Mac is signed into your iCloud account, or on your iOS device.  To see them on the web, you have to add them to a shared stream with the public website option enabled (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmc0cd7e99).  This will give you a private url to view them on the web from a computer browser.

You cannot view Photo Stream photos on iCloud.com.
To view Photo Stream photos on your desktop you need a Mac running OS X 10.7.5 or later or a PC (via iCloud Control Panel) running Windows Vista or later.
Mac: System Preferences > iCloud > Sign In > enable Photos
PC: Install iCloud Control Panel > Sign In > enable Photos
iCloud Control Panel 2.1.3 for Windows Vista
iCloud Control Panel 3.1 for Windows 7 or later

You should get the mobile version of YouTube which sends Firefox a notice to open it in the YouTube App. That will have a much better playback experience than running Flash in the browser.
