Iphoto syncs original photo's to ipod only!!!

I have synchronised my iPod Photo with iPhoto 7.01 (via itunes). To my suprise only the original photo's show up on my ipod. Older albums still had the modified photo's. But after removing them from the iPod and syncing all the albums again none of the albums had the modified pictures! In the webgallaries and iPhoto everything looks normal.
What to do???
Kind regards, Tom

  • How do I sync edited Photos to my iPod Touch instead of the originals?

I edited a photo in iPhoto and it shows up there with my changes. However, when I synced the photo to my iPod Touch, it shows me the original version of the photo, not the edited one I want.
Is there some setting to tell iTunes to sync the edited versions of photo's and not the originals?

Unfortunately, that didn't do it. I think I know why though. When you sync photo's for the first time, iTunes prepares them for the iPod Touch by crunching them down for the smaller screen.
When I synced the first time, it did this. When I removed them from the iPod Touch, it erased my pictures from the Touch. Then, I closed iTunes, iPhoto and disconnected the Touch.
Next, I plugged in the Touch, it started iTunes and did a sync. I then marked the album to by synced and chose sync. This time, however, it did NOT prepare the photos for the iPod Touch.
I believe it has some temporary area where it puts the prepared photos and it saw the same album name and pictures so it just copied them from that area instead of preparing them from scratch.
I'm going to try shutting down my machine and rebooting in hopes that the prepared photo's are in a temporary cache and not in some permanent hidden file on my Mac.

  • I can't sync my photo events using iTunes; only some of them appear on my IPhone Why?

I can't sync my photo events using iTunes; only some of them appear on my IPhone Why?

    Solved here...

  • Photos sync OK, but when edited in iPhoto, the original photos still appear.

Photos sync fine to iPhone. However, if I edit (crop) one of these photos in iPhoto, the unedited version still appears on the phone after resyncing. I have tried unchecking the box next to the photo album, then syncing and pulling it completely off the phone. Then I recheck the box and sync the photos back to the phone. The old, unedited versions of the photos still appear on the phone. What to do?? Thanks for your help!!

I am exporting as a JPG. I think I figured out the problem. In the old iPhoto I could export from the Edit menu. On this new version, I have click on the Photos button and go back to the screen that shows the whole event and export from there.
It's a pain and much less efficient but it seems to be working.

  • Sync'ng Photos onto 5G iPod from Aperture

I have long been using iPhoto to catalog and organize my substantial photo library. Recently, I transferred all of my images into Aperture. Now when I attempt to sync my Aperture photos with my iPod through iTunes (using the Aperture selection from the Photos tab), I receive an error 'The iPod "MEBenner's iPod" cannot be syncd. An unknown error occurred (-50)'
I use my iPod as a convenient and portable portfolio device and I do not intend to run both iPhoto and Aperture and I do prefer the advantages and benefits of Aperture, especially as my library grows.
Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve this? I have read through other posts and do not find the specific (-50) error. I have purged the "iPod Photo Cache", recommended for similar issues, without success.

You can only use one. If you use Aperture just import your iPhoto library into Aperture or import the albums you want. If you import as referenced photos, you can leave the originals in place in the iPhoto library and have referenced (small) files in Aperture. Aperture will generate previews for those photos and you can have both your Aperture and iPhoto photos to sync to your iPod.

  • Sync Bridge photo collections to iPod?

I have hunted across the web and haven't even found a page that discusses the question, let alone answers it:
Is it possible to sync Adobe Bridge photo collections to an iPod?
I suspect the answer is no (or at least, not directly).
Ideally, what I would like to do is "sync selected collections" to my iPod, including both ordinary collections and smart collections.
Since I suspect there is no way set up within iTunes or iOS to sync from Bridge's collections, I am looking for workarounds that will allow me to do this.
I've poked around and found that the collections are really just XML documents containing a list of file names (including the full path for each file), and the smart collections are XML lists of criteria.
I have monkeyed around with aliases and symbolic links coupled with iTunes' "sync photos from folder..." dialogue, and it appears that aliases (aka shortcuts) will not work, and neither will symbolic links, but hard links will.
What's needed, then (and I believe this is the only way to accomplish my objective without doubling the hard disk space taken up) is a script/droplet/workflow/whatever that will take the collections from Bridge and create hardlinks for all photos from all collections, in a new directory (with the descriptive title "iPod syncing photos folder with hardlinks of collections' photos"—or maybe something shorter, heh heh.)
I would then have one main directory ("iPod photos") containing subdirectories with names corresponding to my Bridge collections, each subdirectory containing hard links to every photo in its namesake Bridge collection.  Of course the script would have to be rerun before any iPod sync, since any changes to the contents of the collections (or the smart collections) would otherwise not be reflected in the iPod Photos directory.  But it could conceivably work very nicely.
Can anyone scripting savvy point me in the direction of how I might accomplish this?

Thanks for the suggestion.  I gave it a try and there are some major problems with it for my intended workflow:  (listed in order of severity)
So many users so many workflows, I was just thinking out loud
    1. It opens each photo individually in Photoshop.  Yes, it only opens them for a second—but try running this on 4000 photos.  (I don't have 4000; I have about 12000.  I want roughly a third of them on my iPod.)
Actions are very useful but sometimes take its time. Personally I always use custom created actions in PS instead of the image processor or if you still have Bridge CS6 the Export panel (which does not start PS but let Bridge handle this job). However 10 or 1000 or even 12 K of images, let it run once overnight and you will be done without needing to look at it
    2. This would have to be run manually, individually for each Bridge collection.
There you have a point I have no solution for. In a normal folder structure with the originals you could select the main folder, use menu view and select view items from subfolders and you could use one action to run on the whole content. But collections don't work that way and need to be selected one by one.
    3. This would have to be run manually by collection each time I want to sync my iPod, in order to include any newly tagged or collected photos.
Yes, but that would be a minor effort because when adding new files to a collection you have those files already selected and can run any action on them.
    4. When emailing or sharing photos from the iPod, full resolution images would no longer be available.
I'm not sure I follow this but I don't know what a full resolution file on your system would mean. I have used a lot of different dSLR since 2001 and currently use an 18 MP dSLR and there is no way I can email those HR files. For me the usual limit per email attachment is 10 MB and my HR files saved in Jpeg Max are around 15 to 20 MB each. My HR archive form the past 10 years contains 65 K of images and needs 500 GB of storage…
    5. I have over 17 GB of photos.  With the large number that are in collections, even medium res copies will take up a large amount of space.  (Hard links will take almost none.)
First of all, using an action in PS you can also create Safe for Web files that with some study can create fabulous quality just for screen while taking less then 80 KB of file size. Also other options like resizing to 10 x 15 cm 300 ppi jpeg 8 creates relatively small files that depending on content rarely will be above 1 MB each.
Also I don't rely on collections for archiving purposes because over the years they have proofed to be very unreliable. A collection has its use for me but only on the short term usage and as feed for Mini Bridge in PS.
I use a real Digital Asset Management application for my archive (in my case Canto Cumulus single user, not very cheap but very good).
And I'm not sure how a hard link on your iPod would manage you to distribute HR files using your iPod while the files are on your computer but I also have to admit that I still have a lot to learn in the digital world
I think the key lies in Bridge scripting, at least for the "get collections items" part.  If I can pipe that into a standard AppleScript, Automator Workflow, bash script or whatever, I believe I can manage the rest (creating links, etc. Any tips on Bridge scripting usage for exporting collection items?
There is a dedicated bridge Scripting Forum with very knowledgable and helpful people, try this:

  • No syncing of photos, calenders and contacts, only music and Podcasts

At first, syncing was no problem but now my 120 GB iPod Classic has decided to be a bit more selective of what it wants on the disc. Only Files that are stored over iTunes will be synced (Music, Podcasts). Photos, Calenders and Contacts won´t be synced anymore.
I get no errors while or after syncing the iPod. The settings for Photo, Calender an Contacts are set to sync all files. There are still 46 GB storage left on the iPod and i have just a small amount of photos, so this couldn´t be the problem.
I have also tried the "Restoring iPod to factory settings" function, but the problem remained and i also lost the photos that have been synced to the iPod when everything worked well.
I have OS 10.4.11 and all the Online Updates for my MacMini 1,42 GHz installed.

When you connect the iPod to iTunes the Summary screen appears, but this only shows Sync options for music and videos. Notice the tabs at the top of the Summary screen. The photos are another tab (or pane) - the Photo one and the calendars and contacts options are on the Contacts pane.
I don't know about the Mac, but Windows updates to iTunes have been known to change the options, so if you have received an update, you need to check this.

  • HT1386 I have 300 songs in my itunes on my PC, when trying to sync entire collection to my ipod, only 95 will copy. What am I doing wrong?

Please see subject bar for my question.

It depends on how much memory you have if you have used most of your memory up then delete some apps. Check you memory by going into itunes on a computer and click ipod name then, look at the bottom for capability. If its fully then go onto ipod and go to setting from there click general, and then usage, then manage, then lick edit and delete anything you do not want/need. Please let me know if the helped.

  • Lost almost all my original photos in iPhoto. Have rebuilt the library to no avail.

I tried to share my events and photos from iPhoto in Flickr by copying the events and then clicking share button in iPhoto and choosing Flickr. After some events appeared in Flickr in new albums, I realized I had lost some of the events and photos in iPhoto. If I open iPhoto I see my events some with cover photos and some just a black box with original title but empty. When I click the ones with cover photo, many have only a few photos (originally they had many more) and worse when I click the thumbnails a black box appears with a gray triangle and an exclamation mark in the middle. I have followed the rebuilding option from iPhoto First Aid but got no where. The library shows that I have the original number of photos I had (over 38,000) and also the same number of events and album titles BUT the original photos are mostly missing, only a few thousand are showing in the original size! Most of thumbnails seem to be there though many are also missing. I just cannot locate the originals. In the Masters file in iPhoto Library I don't see many original photos either. It just seems all my photos are deleted! The subfolders in Masters are 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 (I suppose for the 4 years I have used this Mac). The sub-subfolders under each year are named with numbers, like under 2011 there is only one called 11, under 2012 there is 05 and 07 sub-sub folders, under 2013, 04 and 08, and there are more under 2014 from 02 to 08. When I click any of these sub-sub folders I get additional folders with numbers but no order. If I click these folders I get a long number folder which is generally empty except for some where I can see original photos. I even tried to see if I could find a backup of iPhoto Library through Time Machine (I use CCC to backup my Mac) but the Library files I found were all from the time AFTER I had tried to share my photos in Flickr. So I did not find additional originals. It seems Flickr has just literally deleted most of my originals by taking them away from my hard disk!! Unfortunately they don't show up in Flickr either!
What has happened to my original photos? Are they lost or deleted for ever? I tried to use recovery software to see on my hard disk whether there were any of my original photos but didn't see them. Can someone help/advise what to do? I use an I Mac with OSX 10.9.4?and iPhoto 9.5.1. Thank you.

Thank you Terence. Let me explain better. I wanted to have a copy of  my photos in Flickr. So I tested with selecting one event in iPhoto and using the Share button to      copy the photos it contained in an Album in Flickr. That worked ok. Then I selected all my events and clicked Share in iPhoto to copy them to Flickr. That is where things got probably messed up. As there were many original photos, this took a long time over few days and I tried to stop it. Whatever went wrong there isn't clear to me. When I went back to iPhoto next I saw the situation described above. Most original disappeared. Unfortunately, the back up I found in my external disk is from the same time I seem to have lost the files. I have copied into iPhoto Lib but it has the same problem with most originals missing. The funny thing is that when I noticed my photos were missing, I checked the size iPhoto Lib and it was about 25GB. Then I went and checked the 7 backups of Pictures in Time Machine and noticed two were around 100GB from Two weeks earlier just about the time I did the Flickr transfer. So I selected one of those and opened iPhoto using that bigger file. But it was still too short of the original 38,000 photos only a few thousands.

  • Syncing iPhoto08 photos to iPod

Since updating to iPhoto08, I cannot sync my photos to my iPod. I can sync photos from my "Pictures" folder and Aperture library. But when I choose the iPhoto option in the iTunes sync window I get error(-50) after syncing. Does anyone have a solution for this?

With both itunes and iPhoto not running I deleted the "itunes Music Library.xml" and "album data.xml". I restarted my system, then opened iPhoto. Then opened iTunes. the problem was solved.

  • I can't find the "Sync" button under "Photos" to transfer my photos onto my iPod

I cannot sync my photos to my iPod. I followed the directions by there is no "Sync" button under "Photos"

Have you synced to this computer/iTunes library before? You can only sync photos from the one syncing computer you can have.

  • Original photos disappear when exporting retouched photos from iPhoto

    BACKGROUND:
I have a folder of, say, 15 photos.
I open them in iPhoto and retouch them.
I export the photos and IMMEDIATELY am confronted with the message that they can't be exported because the originals cannot be found.
I go to the original folder of 15 photos and it is completely empty.
The missing photos aren't in the Trash, they are no-where. A search finds NOTHING but the ones in iPhoto.
If I try to copy the photos in iPhoto and paste them into the original folder from which they came, they create ALIASes and the picture doesn't show up ... just a JPEG icon.
If I export photos one at a time, the originals don't disappear, but if I try to export even two in the same procedure, all original photos disappear.
Obviously, this is AWFUL because my photos are gone, vanished, nowhere to be found.
    What's wrong with my machine?
(I don't even know what version of iPhoto I'm using ... how do I find that information?)

    =====
IN A NUTSHELL: Whenever exporting anything from iPhoto, the original photos in Finder VANISH. Poof! They're gone. Thus, I disagree with your and Terence Devlin's comment that  "iPhoto has no ability to manipulate files stored outside the iPhoto Library." My uninformed guess is that I need to re-install my OS or at least iPhoto.
BACKGROUND: Yes, I held down the Option key when launching iPhoto and chose CREATE LIBRARY from the resulting menu. Ever since doing that, the problem is the same EXCEPT that iPhoto now hangs virtually EVERY TIME I try to export. AFTER deleting the original files, of course
    =====
INITIAL STEPS LEADING UP TO THE EXPORT PROCESS:
    (1) From my camera, I import photos into a Desktop folder. Let's say, for this example, there are five photos (test1.jpg, test2.jpg, test3.jpg, test4.jpg and test5.jpg).
    (2) I open them in PREVIEW, manipulate them (some need to be rotated). I save all changes.
    (3) I need to remove some blemishes (hey, I'm not perfect). I select all 5 photos, CONTROL+CLICK and choose OPEN WITH ... iPhoto.
    (4) iPhoto opens, and test1.jpg, test2.jpg, test3.jpg, test4.jpg and test5.jpg are in a new UNTITLED EVENT.
    (5) As confirmation, I open Finder, navigate to the Desktop folder and confirm that the five original photos are still present.
Now here's where things go awry and I'll outline everything I've done:
NOTE: For all of these examples, I am not going to spend time to EDIT the photos in iPhoto. I am simply leaving the 5 photos I just imported untouched in an UNTITLED EVENT. (If I edit them, the results are the same, so I'm not going to waste my time.)
EXAMPLE ONE: EXPORTING ONE PHOTO AT A TIME
    (6) I select test1.jpg (from UNTITLED EVENT) and choose FILE/EXPORT.
    (7) The EXPORT PHOTO screen appears, and, without making any changes to the default settings (Kind: Current,  Jpeg Quality: Medium, etc.), I select EXPORT.
    (8) A screen appears: ALERT - The photo test1.jpg could not be opened because the original cannot be found."
    (9) I choose FIND PHOTO and navigate to the original desktop folder containing the original 5 photos. I confirm that test1.jpg is there.
    (10) I choose OK.
    (11) The EXPORT PHOTOS screen appears reading, "test1.jpg already exists. Do you want to replace it?"
    (12) I select REPLACE and a screen appears "Exporting ... 1 of 1" and IMMEDIATELY another screen appears in front of that reading, "ALERT - The photo test1.jpg could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." (You will recall that just seconds ago, it was definitely there!)
    (13) I choose FIND PHOTO ... and iPhoto hangs and must be shut down using FORCE QUIT.
    (14) Just for grins & giggles, I check the Desktop folder to be sure test1.jpg is still there ... and it is.
EXAMPLE TWO: EXPORTING ONE PHOTO AT A TIME (and hopefully doing so w/o iPhoto hanging)
    (6) In iPhoto, I select test1.jpg (from UNTITLED EVENT) and choose FILE/EXPORT.
I confirm that test1.jpg is present.
    (10) I click on OK.
    (11) The EXPORT PHOTOS screen appears reading, "test1.jpg already exists. Do you want to replace it?"
    (12) I select REPLACE and a screen appears "Exporting ... 1 of 1" and IMMEDIATELY another screen appears in front of that reading, "ALERT - The photo test1.jpg could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." (You will recall that just seconds ago, it was SO present that iPhoto confirmed I wanted to replace it!)
    (13) I choose FIND PHOTO and navigate to the Desktop folder and, sure enough, there is no test1.jpg. One second ago, it was there but as soon as I chose REPLACE from iPhoto, it disappeared. I mean it's gone. It's not in the trash, it's not in the folder. It has vanished. Only test2.jpg through test5.jpg remain.
EXAMPLE THREE: EXPORTING ALL 5 PHOTOS AT ONCE
(I recreate the Desktop folder so it once again contains five photos ... test1.jpg through test5.jpg)
    (6) In iPhoto, I select all 5 photos (test1.jpg, test2.jpg, test3.jpg, test4.jpg and test5.jpg ... from UNTITLED EVENT) and choose FILE/EXPORT.
    (7) The EXPORT PHOTO screen appears, and, without making any changes to the default settings (Kind: Current,  Jpeg Quality: Medium, etc.), I select EXPORT.
NOTE: In this example, iPhoto voluntarily navigated to the original Desktop folder ... it didn't make me search for the photos.
    (8) A screen appears: FILES EXIST - test1.jpg and 4 other files already exist at the destination. Do you want to replace them?
    (9) I select REPLACE and a screen appears "Exporting ... Exporting Image 1 of 5 and IMMEDIATELY another screen appears in front of that reading, "Alert, The photo test1.jpg could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found."
    (10) I select FIND PHOTO and navigate to the Desktop folder and the folder is complete empty. All 5 photos have vanished.
    ====
QUESTION: Since all of my original photos have disappeared, how can I recreate them? I spent a month through-hiking the JMT this summer and you can imagine what a tragedy it was to find that virtually every one of my photos has disappeared and I have no way of replacing them. I can see them in iPhoto, but I can't bring them OUT of iPhoto and back into a Finder folder.)
    =====
AS AN ASIDE ... when I have to FORCE QUIT of iPhoto, I am given the opportunity to REPORT or IGNORE. If I choose REPORT, a screen appears reading that the transmission failed and that I should "try again later." This has been happening for quite some time. I cannot create a connection between my computer and Apple to report any problems.

  • HT1329 Can you transfer photos off the ipod classic?

Recently my hard drive in my MacBook Air crashed so I was wondering if I could transfer my photos that were originally placed on the Ipod Classic with a MacBook Air off of my Ipod Classic onto another Mac? If so how? Thanks

You can do that (in a useable form) only if you had a particular setting enabled when you synced the photos to the iPod.  To find this setting, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Photos tab.  On that screen, there is a checkbox that says Include full-resolution photos.  IF that checkbox was checked when you synced the photos to the iPod, they are stored separately on the iPod as individual image files.  You just need to Enable disk use (on the iPod's Summary tab), and use Finder to open the iPod's "disk."  The image files are in a folder called Photos.
If that checkbox was not checked, the photos on iPod only exist in an optimized format to fit the small iPod screen and they are stored in a special "database" file (to save as much storage space as possible on iPod).  Therefore, they are not in a format that is directly usable, and they are low resolution, so even if they were extracted (using a third-party utility), they would look highly pixelated when enlarged to computer screen size.

  • HT1363 how to import photos off old ipods

I have over 10,000 pictures on my ipod classic v1.3 and I need to copy the photos off of it. Does anyone have a procedure on doing this?

There is no procedure for doing that, using iTunes.  When you synced the photos to the iPod, iTunes reduced the resolution of the images to optimize them for the iPod's small screen (and save storage space used by the photos on the iPod).  Therefore, they are probably very low res compared to the original photos.  The image data is also consolidated into a single database file.
There may be third-party utilities that can extract those images from the iPod.
The only exception is IF you had a setting enabled when you synced the photos to the iPod.  On the iPod's Photos screen in iTunes (where you set up syncing for photos), there is a checkbox for Include full-resolution photos.  If that was checked when you synced the photos to the iPod, iTunes separately puts a copy of the original image files on the iPod, in a folder called Photos.  You can then Enable disk use on the iPod, and manually copy those image files from the iPod using the Mac's Finder.
